This is quite nice! I could see this being a part of a lovely idle animation.
The bright highlights really help seem to give the character some personality and almost a youtuful apperance despite not being able to see any details of their face.
Thank you! Even though Final Fantasy IX is not loved by the FF community too much I really like its characters' design. And this one even without any facial details (as you said), has a really strong personality.
In Japan polls it should be consistantly in the top 4, sometimes top 2 games. Otherwise 9 has a smaller but very strong following in comparison.
You should post this in the FF9 sub! I was tempted to cross-post it but it's best you did, they'll appreciate it :)
I personally find the art style my favourite, places like Lindblum, Alexandria and Treno give me the warm fuzzies. I can still hear their theme music even now
IX is hands down, far and away, my favorite of the franchise. I have played IV, VI, VII, IX, X, X-2, XII, XIII, and XV.
To add, Vivi is my all time favorite character from the series. Great job on the pixel art! It looks awesome. Your post made me smile seeing it on the front page of reddit.
In my opinion, Vivi's character arc is truly fantastic. I've never once felt a stronger emotional connection to a character from the Final Fantasy series. To me, the end of the game really fortifies his position as the best character in FF ever.
I hope you find as much joy in the game and story that I did. After many, many playthroughs, I have yet to watch the final cutscenes without tears.
I just got out of the forest where blank perishes (as far as my knowledge goes) and to that first town where we all sleep and start figuring out what to do. So maybe 2 -3 hours in and probably a lot more hours to go.
More than 30 minutes long final cutscene - a lot of tears!!! And not because it was emotional but because of one hilarious story: I was beating the final boss for many hours - the whole night!!! I still was not able to beat it - a lot of restarts were needed. And then, when I finished that battle in the morning, suddenly the phone rang with my mom on the line - she wanted to chat, and I felt it would be not nice to tell her I didn't have time BECAUSE I JUST FINISHED FFIX and I want to see the final cutscene! So we had a great chat instead, and I was observing what was happening on the screen from the corner of my eye. Sadly, after that, I was too lazy to repeat that cursed marathon battle and finally see the whole ending cutscene. I feel I should play it after 22 years again - not only because of that :)
Its been a very long since i played ff9...
But were the surnames exclusively for the promotional material?
I cant remember seeing any in the game (apart from maybe Dagger because of her other name and associated titles)
and now that i think about it.... Strife, Leonhart? Are they all like this?
Full names were part of the manual for PS one.

yes, and in the official strategy guides and some press related to the game.
but... are these names ever referenced in-game?
and if not... why have surnames in the first place?
To tell the truth, I don't remember. I will try to find out if it was used in the inventory screen somewhere. But I feel you are right. It was used only for promotional purposes.
Don't you name like all of the characters in every game? So it wouldn't make much sense to have the surnames in game when you have custom (first) name.
I remember stumbling across Ornitier randomly when I was young and I quite liked the name even though it was pretty obscure since it was hardly ever mentioned on the internet. (The Japanese version was Orunitia I think?)
Well, that's the question. But Vivi also acted in Kingdom Hearts 2, which has a voiceover. So maybe the answer can be found there. And it looks like they used Vee-Vee pronunciation there.
Love this!
Vivi’s whole; am I real complexities; is still one of the more fascinating character arcs I enjoyed throughout the entirety of the FF series.
This man stole Mario's shoes
Filthy thief!

Not from my experience, FF9 is one of if not the top favorite every time FF is mentioned
Personally, I love the most VI and then IX :)

Thanks! I will try!

People get too hung up on the art style thinking it's a kiddie game and not a dark gut punch to the soul
I personally find the art style my favourite, places like Lindblum, Alexandria and Treno give me the warm fuzzies. I can still hear their theme music even now
Lindblum was big and busy enough that it feels like somewhere I've really been
I always loved the medieval cartoon style used there. Very unique and pleasant.
I thought this was something out of Ogre Battle 64... you've definitely convinced me to go check out the FF series
Is not kiddy. It's whimsical. jeez...

It is great to see how many people here can recognize this character.
I just started playing final fantasy 9, my favorite character of all time. So cute

If you are just looking to rewatch the final cutscene it's on youtube.
I know :) But it is a nice excuse to re-play the whole game again :)
Oh, yes!!!

This looks really sick dude. Great job.
Oh, thank you!!!
How do you pronounce Vivi, is it like Vee Vee, or Vivvy
Well, that's the question. But Vivi also acted in Kingdom Hearts 2, which has a voiceover. So maybe the answer can be found there. And it looks like they used Vee-Vee pronunciation there.
Amazing.
He's perfect!! Will you be doing the rest of the cast?
I will see! :)
He was too young
Stop trying to make me cry.
Oh my gosh it’s beautiful 🙏

my favorite kingdom hearts 2 character
Vivi is always cute
I always named him Orko. After the He-Man wizard character.
Haha! Yes - they are twins! :) Orko was very cute as well!
Best Final Fantasy character ever. Also I love the design!!
Yes! :)
