Patch Notes September 7

Bad change, you're punishing everyone for the sins of a few. Just last night I had a candle and my friend had a smudge for protection and when my candle went out I said "Hey, got a light?" and he lit it for me. If anything, this should be an option the host can toggle, when they're playing with people they don't entirely trust. Hopefully this doesn't affect candles, since it says equipment items on or off, but it's still a bad change, I often turn thing on or off when they're on the ground.
To be fair, you can still drop the lighter and light it yourself. I hear where you’re coming from but it doesn’t make up for the thousands of trolls, mind you I’ve encountered them wasting peoples smudges
Can't toggle the Spirit Box on the ground anymore? Booo, that was the only saving grace after the static noise bug fix. I don't see it being an issue with any other equipment though.
Ugh, I hate this. Could you possibly at least allow things to be turned off when not held?
Ohh interesting, I was not aware of that. I wonder if it's that specific interaction that was patched or all items all the time. Guess I'll just have to boot it up and find out!
Bad change IMO. The best solution for trolling is to let hosts kick players while in game. If someone gets kicked, refund any items they added to the mission.
Double that. I had so many people in my lobby start fucking around in the middle of the game and straight refuse to get in the van. Can't leave the session because I've added all items so just sit there and pray this one asshole gets bored and decides to leave. We already have kick option in the lobby, please add it to the active session.
I feel like all you are doing with this is giving people another tool to troll people with.
If you get kicked, you get all your equipment back. Easy as.
Having that option does way more to prevent all other forms of trolling than it adds by a dick host kicking you right before the mission finishes.
Who cares about equipment? I care about the wasted time which in both scenarios is exactly the same.
Why so it wasted time? What are you playing the game for? Do you just want to complete missions as fast as possible and be completely efficient? If so, I find that incredibly boring. I play this game to have fun and interact with strangers while hunting ghosts, and getting kicked at the end doesn't prevent that from happening.
I play the game to have fun, too. Thing is unlike you I realize my way to have fun isn't the only way to have fun. Whatever way you are playing for fun getting kicked will generally be a detriment to it. Also, I kind of think you are applying that same 'I wouldn't abuse it' thought to this and don't think players would abuse it and that since you wouldn't mind it others wouldn't mind it if they were kicked. It will piss people off.
Also, all you have to do is look at other games that have player kick functions and they almost always require protections to prevent players from abusing it. It might be a way to limit how frequently you can or as simple as requiring a vote.
The developers are making asinine changes like "you can activate equipment that isn't actively in your hand" in an effort to "prevent trolling". Its a dumb thing to do.
What about all the other forms of trolling? What about screamers who yell constantly? What about people who follow you during a hunt and make a bunch of noise? What about people who keep picking up equipment and taking it away from the ghost location? What about people who never get back in the truck and prevent you from leaving? What about people who jsut go AFK? You will have to make similar, asinine changes for every type of trolling.
Or, you could just let the host kick players, which would stop all of these. Countless games over the decades have given hosts the ability to kick people from their lobbies. Any abuse that comes from hosts kicking people for no reason is tiny compared to what can be prevented just by allowing kicks.
I'm wondering if this only applies to lighting via collision and if you can still use a lit lighter to light items in other players hands by interacting with it.
Tried the game out after this update. Died twice, while hiding, with no equipment in hand and ghost knew where I was. Same for my friend. 3 games total, consecutively. hiding spots were behind the sofa seat in willow master bedroom and tanglewood boys bedroom closet
1. it knew where we were and constantly opened doors while the ghost room was in the kitchen (jinn) tangle
2. it found me behind the sofa all the way from the kitchen. all equipment left outside the room. (spirit) willow the same for my friend after I died.
Gopro was used for both
Remember to turn off everything before you enter your hiding spot. Also never hide in willow living room just bolt for the washing machine or one the rooms in the basement
Everytime I've hid in the living room I've survived. Just gotta make sure nothing sees you and that everything is turned off.
Ive been killed in the Willow living room prior to the update.
I've seen people get killed there. But I personally haven't. So idk what I'd be doing different than anyone else.
I hid behind the large white cabinet near the doors to the kitchen. But on the side of the cabinet away from the doors.
I should've clarified. It's the seat, not the sofa, inside the master bedroom.
>To help prevent trolling during hunts, you can no longer turn equipment items on or off unless they are held in your hand.
was this a problem? what? how do you do it any other way?
You could left click on equipment in other people's hands to turn them on/off.
Remove the ability to turn people's equipment off IF they're holding it. But being to turn equipment on and off while it's sat in the environment is fine. Removing features for everyone just because a few muppets abuse them isn't fair, I've never had someone troll me using this feature.
Explains why I couldn't turn off a friend's EMF. Oi.
hope this is just a band-aid fix until they add a host toggle in the lobby or something.
also not sure if this means solo play as well, but that really blows if you're playing alone and have to pick things up to turn them on/off now.
Ran into shadow ghost way too many times this weekend, thank u devs
I’m really going to miss turning off my friends thermometer. I’m sure he will be happy about this though
so still cant hold the journal in my non dominant hand and cant hold anything but the flashlight in my dominant hand, why
I think a better change would be to only restrict other players from turning on equipment DURING a hunt, so that we can still turn on and off items easily when we investigate.
Heck, you can make it so during a hunt you can only turn OFF your equipment and other people's equipment. You can turn ON your equipment after the hunt ends. The obvious exception being flashlights and non-electrical equipment like glowsticks.
Played today, don't know what you've done but something isn't right. Died while next to a crucifix on the floor. Got a wrong guess of the ghost, had footprints on the stairs, and a ghost writing book where the freezing area was, no writing, but ghost was a shade not a Jinn. Lot's of other things but im pretty sure the update has broke a few things.
