Can this game be played with the NES online controllers?
I’ll answer myself. No it can’t. Controller must have analog stick to move in mini games. I ended up buying cheap knock off that worked perfect.
Add me if anyone wants to play!
My friend code is SW-2584-3066-1229
I have a switch lite, can I play against a friend using my switch only?
Is there a way to replace a computer with a player mid game?
Can 2 players play together using 1 joycon each?
Add me if anyone wants to play!
My friend code is SW-2584-3066-1229
Does this game make you take off the joycons like the last one that came out on the Switch?
No, all of the minigames use regular controls. No motion
I have two switches and have been trying to play a game with my husband online with others. Somehow it’s not working. Anyone else have this issue ?
Do you need multiple copies of superstars to play with friends on different switches. I want to play with a friend on 2 different switches but I’m not sure if they have the game.
Yes, your friend has to have the same game on their Switch in order for you to be able to play with them.
Ok I dont seem to be able to find around the answer of this question, So I will have to ask, Even if it seems a bit silly.
Lets say I have a Switch Lite, then my Gf has another switch lite ( 2 consoles, 2 different accs ), and we want to play online with randoms;
Can she/I join the search of random players? Like, at the global mode when it pairs up with randoms, another friend joins the search ; but its a different console even; Could we do it?
Room ID 094967 ONLINE NOW! NEED 2 PEOPLE! Or add me MontnJew28
I have 2 players ready to play often my friend code is SW-2584-3066-1229
Add me if you want to play sometime!
Room I'd 745735
Room ID 899786
Can you play 3 players locally on the same Switch?
Like, if I want to enjoy the game with two guests, but there's only one switch...
Yes you can play offline local with up to 3 guess
Does this game make your take off the joycons like the last one that came out in the Switch?
Thank you :)
Makes it worth the purchase :)
Room ID: 899786 need two players
I got 2 players
So maybe a stupid question but can you play online with a 2nd player locally on the same switch? I wanted to play online with my wife. My profile has an online subscription, hers doesn't. When I pick online option it doesn't ask me how many players will be playing.
You need to go to friends room ingame, then choose how many players that will play on your console (in this case 2) and ppl would need your room id, thats where discord community comes in handy, post your room id there, and cross your fingers.
Me and my wife played the whole weekend doing this.
I know i know, its a Shame that 2 players 1 console cant press multiplayer and go straight online with 2 randoms 🙄
Not if you play online against random players. You can play online with multiple people on one switch if you play online with friends.
So you would have to create a room or join a room. I saw there was a Mario party discord for people to find someone online to play with. All you will need is to get a room code
My first thought. People will cheat in FFAs being on the same console. And youd never be able to tell 100%
Dang. I was hoping it was like Mario Kart 8 and you could just hop online with two other people. Sigh. Oh well.
Room 153 966 NEED TWO
After getting nothing but low rolls all game and thus getting the chance at zero items. I entered the end in first place. I won almost all mini games (online against other people) and was sitting good just for the game to give me another FU by rewarding another player 2 stars for "most items used" and "landed on most bowser spaces"......if it had only done what is normal I would have won since I had most coins collected and most mini game coins. In short I lost because someone else sucked. Congrats Nintendo you have killed a franchise.
You could’ve selected the setting with classic bonus stars lol
Playing online didn't give me that option.
When you are selecting the map for online play. Click Y to select rules. Then it’ll try to match make with people who choose similar rules as you
Gotcha that is nice to know but it would be better still if they didn't automatically giv the win to someone who is getting beaten all game long. Seriously a bonus star for landing on the Bowser space......
Salty because you lost a Mario party that you obviously will lose because of low rolls? Lol
I like it quite a bit, however I am gonna lost some of my negatives here.
There’s too many Lucky Spaces per board. I was under the impression this game/collection was going to be a bit more faithful - people are getting a ton of coins without even winning mini-games.
The items in general I haven’t seen anyone talk about. It’s only 3 coins from the shop to get a Mushroom, and 10 for a Triple Dice Block. I feel like that is way too low prices for how many coins people have. Lastly, where’s some classic items that were left out, like the Reverse Mushroom?
Completely agree with your points, i think the item prices would be fine if lucky spaces didnt exist (why do they even need to? They dont exist in mp 1\~3).
But even that considered its not that bad, honestly having a blast playing a game that actually resembles a real MP game for the first time in a long time.
I just hope they patch in more boards later, like really only 1 board from MP 3? I really wanted to see the waluigi board back from mp3.
Multiplayer question, if my partner and I are on one switch and two of our friends are on one switch, would we be able to play online together? Like if we put up an online room can two players join that room from just one switch?
I don't think so. One of the top comments in this thread answered this.
I tried reading the other comments but I seem to still see conflicting info. I've seen both yes and no answers to this in this thread. I understand that my husband and I can go online on a single switch and get two additional solo players, but I'm specifically looking for if we can multiplayer with our friends on their single switch. So two switches total both hosting local 2p joining into an online room for 4p. Has anyone specifically done this scenario?
Don't know if you're still wondering about this, but I just did exactly this last night. Myself and partner on one switch, joined a room made by friend and their partner also on one switch. Two switches, four people.
I know the host player can have up to 3 players on one switch and go online and play with another friend or two. But I do not know if the joining switch console is allowed that.
I like it a lot more than the last one, but for it to be called All Stars, I feel it needs more. I was always hoping for a huge character list. I still miss playing as Toad.
Personally I would love to see them run it like MP 8, create a character to host the games and make a giant roster.
Perhaps a stupid question, but if you play local wireless (and online I guess) do you each need a copy of the game? It’s not a big deal to hook up to the same TV but we have 3 switches in the house and it would be a bit more convenient.
Can you also mix local wireless with same-system? (eg 2 players on one switch, and another 2 players each with their own switch).
1. If you play local wireless you need a copy for each switch.
Is there is a way to turn off the music?
Super annoyed after paying $60 that you cannot play 2 player online unless you tell people your room ID. I think they totally missed the mark in that regard. And seems like total false advertisement. “It’s possible but we’ll just make it as hard as it is to actually do so”. Please fix this Nintendo it totally ruins this whole game. I’m hoping ina update this will be fixed on top of having new maps.
exactly! I want to play online with my wife. maybe we will play together using 1 account
Yes that was was my problem when trying to play with my husband on the same switch! But I found a solution which is to join the super Mario party discord. On there you are able to invite people to your and your wife’s room that you create. It took us less than a couple minutes after posting in the chat room until two more people joined. I hope this helps!! It’s super complicated because “it’s possible” but still feels like a total false advertisement for the game.
Really? Then we will try this later thanks for this!
I'm quite disappointed how the game works though, gameplay is good
Yes it was so easy I couldn’t believe it! What you have to do is go to online play then go to friends room, create room and then add your wife into that room. Once the room is created post your room ID into the Mario party discord. Here is the discord https://discord.gg/marioparty
Like I said it’s kinda complicated at first because you have to follow the rules of the discord and actually post in it but totally worth it to actually be able to play normally online.
The online while doing daily challenge/survival is so bad. The amount of lag and button latency is terrible. A lot of games it’s hard to play. I hope they fix the online lagging problem. Seems inescapable. And it’s not my internet. I always have full connection so I highly doubt it’s that
A bit dissapointed theres only 5 boards.
Its missing some kind of story mode or other mode than just the original Mario Party that the original games always had.
Its nice theres a mix of minigames of all games... sort of.
But there is nothing to unlock, other than the annoying Stickers, ''Encyclopedias'' and other custumizable online ID cards which is meh, not really anything that affects the game
I kind of felt the same way about mkart 8. Difference being is that this one has so many mini games that all play differently. Makes every game really exciting where as mkart 8 kind of got repetitive after a few games
Does this new mario party game make you take off the joycons like the last one that came out on the Switch?
Nah you can play it in handheld mode. Also with a pro controller if u want. With any controller actually
That’s great!! Thank you
So I was playing the space board. And there are these cops that chase speeders. Yet they only chase whomps iib race cars and do nothing else? I don't see the use for paying 5 coins for it
Unless I've not seen the proper action.
If a player is in the way when it happens it will send the player further backwards on the map than not setting the speed trap for 5 coins when someone lands on the ! Space.
So instead of the whomp going down 1 straight they will go down 2 straights whenever a speed trap is set, forcing whatever players that are in the way backwards
Room 068 123. Need 2
Room 119 778 need two
Room ID: 608 007 need two. My wife stinks
Is there a auto dice roller for off line mode?
Game seems really fun, but damn those stickers getting in the way are annoying
You can turn those off in option house. People can spam them but you won't see m
Is there anyway to turn them off locally? My boy keeos pressing then and blocking the screen.
769 419 join this room we need 2 players
How do you use the different characters character dice? Example - I am donkey Kong - does he have his own, non-standard dice I can toggle between?
Characters don't have special dice in this game, that's only a feature in Super Mario Party
Can you use the GameCube controller for this game?
I’m reading reports on Twitter that some Walmarts mistakenly have the game on sale for $30 already. Anyone here have luck with this?
question i can't seem to find a straight answer to:
can i use a single joycon?
Yes, on its side
For those who have tried both, how is the dual joy con vs the pro controller? I find the pro controller is significantly better for most games. What about this one?
My wife and I have issues with the A button randomly being delayed with dual Joycons. Idk if it's widespread thing
I only played with pro controller, but it was a great experience. Will have to try the joycon.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to have a 2vs2 online party? Like in Mario party 8 for example where you would share coins and stars w your partner
No 2v2 option at all. Buyer beware if you want it for co op. I’m out 60 bucks and very bummed.
I already bought it and tried to find 2v2 today but couldn’t :( just wanted to know if I’m blind or if it actually doesn’t exist. Hope they ad it
Played it last night with my bf - he is a HUGE Mario Party fan and he loved it. The boards are a lot bigger than they are in Super Mario Party and there’s a lot of nostalgia!
We spent an entire 15 turn game fighting over like two stars. They’re harder to get and there was definitely more strategy involved.
I liked it, but not quite as much as he did - honestly, I loved the character selection and custom dice/“ally” aspect of Super Mario Party and was really missing playing as Shy Guy haha. 😂
(But seriously…BIRDO? Instead of Bowser or literally any other staple characters?? 🤦🏻♀️)
name staple characters.
bowser is a board piece, not a character. toad and toadette too. koopas too. baby bowser too. king boo too. not so much choice
Well, having bowser spaces and then playing as bowser would not really work unless he cloned himself.
Lol no I understand why, I just miss the core characters is all 😂
I have only played Mario Party DS before, but I remember I played it all the time after I got the game for Christmas one year. I feel like it's kind of the same vibe and I love it! I really like that there is an online mode too but I really wish for an option to play online with more than one person on one console. I also would want more maps, like most people already said they want, but overall I love that it's an old style Mario Party game, but "modernized" with better graphics etc.
Mario Party DS was the last "classic" Mario Party game released before they moved to the "Car". DS was a great game and I'm loving this new game.
Am I the only one who thinks this is one of the biggest AAA scams nintendos pulled? Unless you only own a switch i genuinely dont understand why you would pay 60 dollars for 5 boards, 5, its a nostalgia bait game with less boards than the actual games they just took the boards from. Plus the fact theres only 10 characters, all with the same general shape, and they couldn't even bring back costumes for the 2 boards. This games main selling point is the shitty online service that costs 20 bucks for games you can literally get for free with a 5 dollar rcm jig. Theres not enough time to play mario party at school and if im at home ill just emulate the good ones.
They did more than bring back the boards, they balanced and improved them. The characters share the same dice which is really one of the few features I miss from the previous iteration. The customization of the game however is exactly what I'd want as well as the better balancing.
The number of boards though is slightly less than average of the previous Mario Party games, it's not as though each one had tons of boards.
Past that, this is probably one of their better releases of Mario Party. Should it be full price? Probably not, but I wouldn't consider any of them to be full price.
Mario party 1: 8 boards. 2 are post game content. 50 mini games
Mario party 2: 6 boards 65 mini games
Mario party 3: 6 boards 70 mini games
Mario party 4: 6 boards 50 mini games
Mario party 5: 7 boards 77 mini games
Mario party 6: 6 boards 82 mini games
Mario party 7: 6 boards 88 mini games
Mario party 8: 6 boards 73 mini games
Mario party 9: 6 boards 82 mini games
Mario party 10: 5 boards with 10 amiibo boards 75 mini games
Super mario party: 4 boards 80 mini games.
Mario party advanced: 2 boards
Mario party DS: 5 boards 73 mini games
Mario party Island tour: 7 boards! 81 mini games
Mario party Star Rush: 2? Boards 53 mini games
Mario party all stars 5 boards 100 mini games
I think the game itself is fine, and if you dont have a computer its probably worth it (still not sure if id pay 60 tho) but praising nintendo for doing the bare minimum in a game where its just rehashed ideas is a bit odd. 4-7 (the games i played the most) have at least 5 ORIGINAL boards, not sure as to why we cant get at least 7 old ones. And while im also happy that all characters share the same dice i dont think we should be celebrating a feature returning when it should've never left. Making shit for 10 years and then releasing like a 7/10 thats just old ideas is not really impressive.
I overall agree, but I would say it combines what was good with previous iterations for the most part and gives a polished product. As you said, it's basically the bare minimum. But that's really how Nintendo operates, they give you what they give you and there's a lot of good there, but they could be so much better it's frustrating. Like the OLED model, that should have been gen 1 switch. I don't see them changing majorly anytime soon, but the market may react accordingly.
So growing up, my first Mario party was 5, though I played 6 and 7 the most. I was one of the ones who got burned on Super Mario party because despite enjoying the gameplay somewhat there was hardly any content. My roommates and I got bored very quickly because after playing for like 10hours it’s all very stale.
My question is, for someone who has no nostalgia of the early Mario party titles, would superstars just be a repeat of that? I heard there was only 5 boards which is obviously only one more than Super. Are they at least bigger/more interesting?
I'd say they're bigger and more interesting. They've taken (objectively) the best boards from previous games. Like yourself I grew up with 5 and unfortunately there are no boards from 5 but hopefully soon.
Apologies if it has already been asked but can two people on the same switch play with people online?
Like my girlfriend and I on my switch versus her brother on one console online and a friend on another console online??
Yes, it asks you how many are playing on "this console" then you can go ahead and queue up in a private session with friends.
Edit: you cannot queue up with random matchmaking if you aren't playing solo, sorry
>Edit: you cannot queue up with random matchmaking if you aren't playing solo, sorry
thats stupid. I wasted $60
Nintendo is such a stupid company.
I mean, for your initial question though, you can queue up with those two other friends while your gf is on your console. It's just the Global matchmaking.
I've just seen people suggest that maybe Nintendo didn't want friends cooperating against the other party members. But who cares, lol, what % of games would that even be happening in?
Mario Kart 8 is like the only game with a good online structure for randoms and friends.
What % is the real question. No real way to tell. People will team up if given a chance to win over a random imo. No benefit of the doubt. I hate the decision because i wanna play against randoms online with my gf (hence why im here reading reviews) but i completely understand it.
Played with n64 controller last night and it was such an amazing nostalgia bomb. So much better than super Mario party.
search for discord, this is a thread about review
So I'm obviously biased because the gamecube era mario party's were the ones I grew up with but I have mixed feelings over superstars. First off its a lot less chaotic then the ones I played as a child which is both a good and bad thing, since on one hand its less frustrating to play and on another I feel like those chaotic moments were what made the game great.
The boards to me feel a lot more basic then usual, and there's only a couple of them to begin with. I really hope they add more boards/characters in the future because I can see myself getting bored with these ones quickly.
Items are both more fair and less inspired which once again puts me in this neutral zone of acceptance but not joy. They should bring back orbs and character spaces.
Stickers is a nice annoying addition that I used my first night to piss off all my friends
Minigame selection is fantastic, easily the best part about this game and though I haven't played them all I've yet to find one I disliked fundamentally
TLDR: Best Mario Party to release in years but I just feel like its lacking some personality especially on the board side, will definitely be a friend group mainstay but I might toss on some older ones from time to time just to liven things up. 4/5
Room nr 204 346
I’m confused. Is there only board games mode available? Is there a dedicated Raft game mode and what not? (I’ve only ever played the previous Mario Party on switch)
In Mount Minigames there are a few different game modes, but there’s no raft mode anymore.
Is it just me or it takes forever to find players online?
This game is everything I've wanted from Mario Party in like over a decade. Old school style Mario Party but polished with modern graphics and with working online against randoms (and friends). They knocked it out of the park with this one. They also picked amazing mini games, straight up.
My only complaint is I definitely wish they had more maps. If they do map packs of each game I would absolutely buy each one, but I'm not getting my hopes up lol.
Haven't seen anyone asking about the turns yet. Can you do a 50 turner like the OG games?
I, too, would like to know.
30 max 😐
I know you can add turns while playing so maybe you can add 20?
Party mode great thought the minigame modes are lacking.
I haven’t played a Mario party game in 20 years but would like to get one to play with friends.
1. Should I choose this over super Mario party?
2. Do I need more joycons for four players? Right now I have two joycons, a pro controller and a power A
This one can be played with pro controller, joycon (either single or duel) and any 3rd party controller I would imagine. Super Mario Party can only be played with a single joy con per person.
Really like online, runs pretty solid! Great game 👍Grew up playing since the beginning, I’m really enjoying it.
Seems like survival mode online doesn't have every mini game. I keep getting the same 10ish free for all games. Very disappointing.
My experience playing it last night with friends was that we set it to 20 rounds because the in game recommendation said it would take 60 minutes to complete the game, then it ended up taking us over 2 and a half hours to finish it.
10/10 would happily jump back into the time void that is Mario Party Superstars again
Yea I think the time estimate is with no practicing
Game is good. It's the most fun I've had with Mario Party in years.
IF YOU WANT TO PLAY WITH OTHER PEOPLE USE CODE 111111 TO JOIN RANDOM LOBBIES. I DID THIS ON THE OTHER MARIO PARTY GAME IN SWITCH!!
Nop this is'nt working
I’ll try this after work. Meanwhile, can someone confirm if this works?
Edit: doesn’t work
Can I play handheld?
Yes, everything is playable handheld or on Switch Lite. No motion controls.
Great to hear! Couldn’t play the other Mario Party because of that.
Can I play with friends online if they have the online subscription but don't own the game itself or does everyone need to own the game to play online?
Every console needs a copy
can me and an online friend party up and then search to play with 2 other randoms?
I don't think so... it's pretty disappointing but for that scenario I think you need to create or join a room with an ID. I'm sure there are Discord groups out there where you could create a game, have your friend join, then post the ID for others to fill it out.
That’s a great idea, thanks for the suggestion!
Can anyone help me with this? What buttons are needed to play the game. I have one or two third party controllers with faulty trigger button(s). They don’t work for most other games anymore but I’m hoping that this is a game that only uses the face buttons?
Nope, I’ve already played mini games that require trigger buttons :(
Will either set of R/L or ZL/ZR suffice?
If I have a friend I want to play with online, what are our options? Can we queue as two people, on two different Switches, and play against other human players?
That's what I'm also trying to figure out! My friend and I (who live in dif. states) want to play against random other humans, rather than just the CPUs.
How does saving mid game work online? Also is there a way to play two local players and go online with two random players?
Somebody else was saying use code 111111 to find random people, haven’t tried it myself though
Two local players can play online with friends but not randoms
As someone who’s considering buying it but doesn’t have a lot of money- do you guys genuinely think it’s worth it? Yes or no? I read that there are no unlockable boards and only 10 characters and that was kinda a turn off for me but if people (not reviewers who could’ve been paid) think it’s good then I’d like to buy it
I think it is if you like the original Mario Partys. Online mode works, you can play some of the longer minigames online solo like the Ice Hockey or Beach Volleyball games as well as the puzzle games, the boards are mostly great and there's some fun stuff thrown in like showing your win % in individual mini-games.
If you're looking just generally for a Switch multiplayer game, you can always wait for a sale or preowned copy.
I usually wait a few weeks to a month after release and buy the games second hand from GameStop or Mercari! It’s always a good option if you’re on a budget! Based off reviews, this one sounds like it will be significantly better than the previous game.
Am I able to play online, local 2 player and have a friend join also as local 2 player? My husband and I want to play online with another couple.
Yes, go to Online mode then the Friend house thing. You create a game and invite others
OK so i'm just wondering - can I go solo on my switch, then play with two other people online on another switch and add an AI controlled player to fill the 4th spot?
The game always requires 4 people so any non-player slots are always filled with a CPU, so yes, you can queue up with your two friends on another console and the fourth is an AI.
Awesome, thanks! That's definitely what I'd like to happen. So far the online in this game seems great
Can you turn off bonus stars at the end?
There are a bunch of settings right before matchmaking, I think press Y on the screen where you select which boards to include. Can change turn order and a few options for Bonus Stars, but it might increase your search time
If my girlfriend and I play on the switch together can we match make with random people to fill the game?
No online with randoms can only be done single player
I am trying to play with my son and we keep getting “NAT traversal has failed” does anyone know what that means? Or how to fix it? I live in Latin America and he is in the US
Normally NAT issues stem from problems with port forwarding on your local internet setup. Searching something like “open NAT Nintendo Swith” on Google would head you down the right path! Hope that helps and sorry I’m not able to walk you through that myself.
Is it possible to play 2 vs 2 party mode? Cant find it anywhere!
I don’t think so :( which is ridiculous because it was literally in the GameCube Mario parties
I I wanna know too! Can not find it
Can I use GameCube controllers with the adapter I bought for smash? Or does the game require inputs not on the GameCube controller?
Yes, all inputs mapped to L and R are duplicated with ZL and ZR, so you can use GameCube controllers just fine.
My biggest question - is there better flow in game, or are you interrupted as often/just as much handholding as Super Mario Party?
Yeah you can speed up computer players and even skip there turns completely in some games.
Way better flow and pace is quick even when events happen.
Why is it not possible to do random matchmaking with more than one person? This is such a disappointment.
because you could cheat. 2 premades vs 2 stranger people? obvious you win everytime. you could only in friends only mode
Isn't it possible? AFAIK you can, almost sure it's given me that option qhen trying to go online. Just select online play and proceed to the pipe and the game will ask you how many players will play on your console
You're right. It seems it doesn't match you with random people if you're playing with more people on the same console :( sad
Is there a way to play teams in the board?? Me and my husband don't wanna 4v4 we want to be on the same team
My partner and I bought the game not knowing that there is no 2v2 and we’re so bummed :( I don’t know how it isn’t in the game
Yeah my husband was just so excited for it we totally forgot to look and blindly bought it only to realize it's only 4v4 on the board.. Honestly if we would have checked beforehand and seen it wasn't 2v2 we wouldn't have bought it, lesson learned now though, ALWAYS check
Hopefully they add it in an update :( wario ware is a really fun mini game centric game that’s super fun with your significant other though so at least there’s that
Yeah that's what we've been doing 😬
Looks like they shipped without it. My wife and I are so bummed.
Same... We really liked Super Mario Party and were really looking forward to being on teams in this one.. :(
These reviews are full of shit lol
Aren’t they always? I swear, it takes a veritable steaming pile of shit for a reviewer to go under 7.
I know right. At this point I just subtract at least 2 whole points off any score unless it breaches 9.0
True, review scores are weak. People think 8 is average. I would love to see an outlet have the conviction to actually use the whole scale. Average games get a 5. Bad games actually get a 2-3.
Also, 5-point scales suck. It's hard to tell how big of a gap there is between a 3 and a 4, and only the most broken of games get less than 3.
I personally prefer 5 point scales tbh, it forces you to make a more aggressive decision. 1 is unplayable, 2 is bad but playable, 3 is an average game, 4 is a good game, 5 is a masterpiece
If it were used that way...I guess I could understand. Instead, it's like 1 is never used, 2 is unplayable, 3 and 4 are borderline interchangeable (because there's no consistency in standards), and way too many things get a 5.
If an 8 is average, you might need to lower your standards a bit
Exactly, in my mind an average, middle of the road mediocre game that’s nothing special should be like 5-6.
stupid question, but can this be played with the gamecube controller?
An actual GameCube controller by using the adapter, or a wireless/USB controller with the same layout as the GameCube? That could be a difference.
I don't see why it wouldn't work, unless a game needs four shoulder buttons.
Such a fucking disappointment
I thought it has the same game mechanics like the old one just with new boards and items…
i mean...it does...
Where are the 2 vs 2 boards ? Where are the fields where you get a companion? Why can’t we have individual cubes for each character?
