Mets PREGAME THREAD - Sunday, September 19
By - NewYorkMetsBot
Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/prgjon).
This team is always playing from behind
Give me something to root for lol.
Zach Wilson on the boos: Fans “should be booing” because team didn’t play well.
Handle that 10x better than the Mets did
Baseball players are way softer than football players. And for some reason the Mets clubhouse seem to be softer than most baseball teams
This honest admission makes me root for Zach Wilson way harder now.
Anyone want a ticket to tonight's game? 137 row 7 seat 1, an aisle seat.
DM your email and I'll transfer in the ballpark app.
Thrilled to be going out to dinner with my closest friends and not seeing a single second of the game tonight.
Perfect afternoon so far. Bronx team losses, Red Sox win and Jays win.
Mets take on the Red Sox on Tuesday
I'm just so tired of the undeserved hype followed by the inevitable disappointment every single season
2 weeks left then no more baez..but we can look forward to the return of cano..bleech
Hanging on by a thread after watching Zach Wilson throw 4 interceptions…
I was alternating between that and the Once Upon a Time in Queens rerun.
He ain't wrong.
A security guard at Citi Field this afternoon is particularly upset about the Mets failed season.
“I thought they were going to the playoffs,” he said. “Then they quit.”
We need to ask the concession workers how they feel about this.
I mean he may or may not be wrong, but definitely has no idea to what degree they are or are not trying.
I’ve watched these games. They may be “trying” but they’ve quit. It’s the mark of a team that’s going out crawling on it’s belly
We've all watched these games, and not one of us has any idea who is or is not trying or quitting or whatever. This is all NY Post Grit TWTW type nonsense.
Most of us can see when a club is non-competitive.
I mean we know whether or not they're playing competitive games, which they aren't. But no human being who doesn't physically spend time with these people can possibly know who's applying themself or to what degree.
I would have chosen the Angels game or the Giants game for ESPN instead of tonight's Mets-Phillies game. Ohtani is pitching tonight.
I thought ohtani was shut down for the season ?
Plus Vasgersian is the Angels announcer. I hope the Mets play the shittiest game possible so ESPN doesn't bother to book them next year.
Brandon Nimmo has become a good fielding center fielder. If he's healthy, then we have our primary CF (not like that was ever a question tbh).... problem is that his health *is* the question mark and the Mets are going to have to go in on depth for outfield on top of improving the corners.
Hopefully Khalil Lee can at least work out as our 4th outfielder. He’s definitely great defensively already
Really hoping we extend Nimmo though, obviously
There are actually tickets on stubhub for $0.00
But probably $20 in taxes and fees.
Kelenic's starting to come around. He has a double (107.5 MPH EV) and a homer (104.8) today.
He's been solid in September but it's still mega early for the dude. I wish I could say it'd be interesting to see what he does next year but I honestly forgot about him until I read this comment lol
The media does this too with former Mets. I rarely see this with other teams outside the Mets.
Brodie had the decency to trade him to Seattle at least which is like baseball Siberia.
I liked the downvotes yesterday regarding Lindor "driving in" a run. He hit the same groundout he's been hitting way too much this year.
Maybe we can get someone in here who can show him how to fix his swing. Perhaps some kind of coach
I hear they have a guy responsible for this now called a hitting coach.
And it scored a run. How many times this year have we seen a runner stranded on third with less than 2 outs? Are you that unwilling to acknowledge 1 run > 0 runs, because it requires saying something good about Lindor?
The Mets are playing Lindor elite player money. Hit a base hit or rip a double.
The 30 For 30 is on TV again, this current squad should watch it at some point. The way that the entire city was enamoured with the '86 team, literally stopping on the streets to watch their games through shop windows, that's the dream. To be loved like that.
We need to plan a virtual watch party after the season ends for the documentary. I think there's services that let you sync up video to watch and enable chat or video chat while it's playing.
I know Nimmo was referring to movies in his quote a few days ago, but I've got a feeling he watched this documentary.
Anyone else watching the Jets game?
Zach Wilson is absolutely horrific. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a worse quarterback play a down of football.
He threw one of the worst INT's I've ever seen.
The last two interceptions have been absolutely horrifying. He’s not going to last long at all.
Craziest stat of the season:
92 innings - 146 strike outs.
1.5869565 strike outs per inning.
Batters were nearly 3x more likely to be struck out by Jake than to get on base.
Idea for next manager: Phil Regan. He has major-league experience as a player and a manager. Let's bring The Vulture out of retirement! He's 84 but it's a young 84 I think.
How about Connie Mack? I don't think he's doing anything
No, he's probably just laying around somewhere. His great-grandson is a lobbyist for the Hungarian government, though. Don't think he has baseball experience.
Mets not being flexed off of Sunday night baseball was stupid
Like just end the pain quickly.
[Here's the ump scorecard from last night if anyone's interested.](https://twitter.com/UmpScorecards/status/1439599728824520706?s=19) Wouldn't have changed the game result anyway, but we appear to have been slightly favored.
Also: so, we're seriously going to finish the season under .500? No playoffs is one thing but I don't think anyone expected us to have a *losing* record.
Am i losing my mind? I would have sworn a few days ago this was a 110 game not an evening game. I just sat down here with a margarita and the game is in the evening now. Ah well. Cheers.
It's ~~5'o'clock~~ 1:10 somewhere
Cmon just let us end the season by suffering with GKR not this bland ESPN crew
The Jets have more playoff appearances than the Mets. This fact makes me sad.
Awww man it’s a night game? Just get it over with already come on lol
It’s wild to see a professional franchise that has just completely given up
Forget trying to reach .500, continue to tank, please.
Lose every game, offer Mike and Thor the QO, if one or both of them declines it and depending on what teams sign them, we could be looking at 4 top 20 picks in the draft. Then trade Dom and JD for a solid prospect haul if you can. Mediocrity accomplishes nothing, so might as well tank the rest of the year and rebuild the farm system to at least make this year mean something.
So I had tickets to this game for 1 o clock. Bought them awhile ago and was never notified when the time changed to 7. Anyone know when that happened? And is there any way I can get a refund cause now I can’t go to the game
Would have been nice to watch a meaningless afternoon baseball game, but nooooooo let's make it a Sunday night game. Fuck ESPN.
Afternoon baseball is pleasurable, even if your team is shit. Sunday night, not so much.
13 games to go....can we win 1 plz?
Anyone that calls this season anything other than a complete and utter failure is wrong. Major changes are required. This mess is fixable, but it won’t at all be easy. Fuck this team for giving me hope to start the year then not doing anything when they actually needed to.
Half the roster has to go. Rojas has to go. The entire front office, medical staff, and draft war room have to go as well. I don’t care how long they’ve been in the organization, heads have to roll and NOW. If not, this team won’t see a dime outta my pocket or a second of time on my TV.
I’ve had enough of year after year of mediocrity/failure. I want to see some goddamn results. I want a team that treats every game as if it was Game 7 of the World Series, pulverizes every team in the league, and leaves no doubt that they can win a title. I want an organization that’s firing on all cylinders, makes the right moves when they have to be made, and doesn’t settle for anything less than 110% effort. I want the Mets to become a juggernaut.
Am I asking for too much? Probably. But after the shitshow that was this year, they have to make it a reality. From now on, anything less than maximum effort, urgency, and devotion to the game and then some is unacceptable. You wanna win a World Series? Prove it or fuck off.
But they’ll still find a way to let me down, I just know it. I’m no longer believing until I’m given a reason to believe. Maybe, *just maybe* they’ll give me that reason to.
I'll take mediocrity any day. That would require winning 80 something games. This team has been a below average shitshow that has no business to be with their roster.
Mediocrity accomplishes nothing. You’re not good enough to compete for a title, but you’re not bad enough to get a good draft pick. You’re fucked either way if you’re mediocre. I’d much rather lose 100 games than win 80 because at least I get a top draft pick out of it.
I'm just saying that mediocrity is better than what's been implied about the Mets. I know full well when you look at a lot of the other New York sports teams. You're completely right. Sometimes you have to completely bottom out for long term success.
We’re already out of the playoffs. Let us enjoy GKR.
Lol ESPN tonight
I was at the game last night and was walking around the team shops and was like “who would I even buy a shirt of if I wanted one? Who’s guaranteed to be here next year besides Lindor and Alonso?”
Someone on Twitter posted the Mets selling a "game issued" Jed Lowrie jersey for $200.
That's why I prefer getting former players. Like if they ever release road grays in women's sizing, I'm getting a customized Lagares one. I would love to get a black one for him, but it feels wrong to get black when he didn't play in the black jersey era.
you ever suddenly remember that dellin betances is a met
Yankee fans knew he was a Trojan Horse like Pedro Feliciano was for them.
Remember when he got his own press conference, like he was some big FA signing?
This season has just been a flat out disgrace, no way around it. Smith, McNeil and Davis need to be gone yesterday. Familia of course is less than useless but he’s gone anyway. Unfortunately we’re probably gonna end up keeping Conforto whose also shown to be an absolute fraud overall this year. I have no clue how they fix this and could see the Marlins being better next year. What a joke. Uncle Stevie my ass
If I had this amount of hate for a team and its players, I would stop supporting and paying attention to the team. Not invite more anger into my life every time they fail.
Well I did stop paying attention after the second Cardinals game but I’m still a mets fan. Jjst airing my very justified grievances with the year in year our failure of this team
Can’t believe Carrasco had to exit early because of an injury. Did not know that because I was watching at a bar half paying attention. Everything goes wrong for this team lol. Not that it really matters, the offense is just terrible.
It wouldn't have mattered anyway since the offense is a paper tiger.
There really aren’t any positives to this year. It’s been a huge failure all around. Just gets old after a while.
there are some positives, they're just few and far between and vastly outweighed by the disappointments.
for example, Stroman having a career year. Baez has been amazing. Aaron Loup has been one of the best relievers in baseball. Lindor has heated up a lot and is in a really good position for next year. Guillorme could be one of the best utility infielders we've had in years. Pete Alonso won another HRD and has cemented himself as one of the better power hitters in the game (if he had been able to play full seasons in 2020 and 2021 we'd probably be looking at three straight 40 HR seasons.) Megill has stumbled a bit but he's overall had a pretty impressive rookie season.
Obviously this season was a massive disappointment. There's no doubt about that and I've been as immensely frustrated as everyone else. But there's still a lot of reason for optimism moving forward, although there's no question they require some massive changes.
I can’t believe the Braves are 76-70 and Phillies are 76-72, and we’re not even coming close to that. Like holy shit the division winner might not even have 85 wins, and yet we won’t even come close to winning this shit. I’m so mad cuz both these teams aren’t even good and we’re so bad that we didn’t even have a chance at winning the worst division in baseball in so long.
The Mets had to just be average and they absolutely failed to do so. Absolutely infuriating. Almost as infuriating was the lack of urgency from the team on the field and through their communication to the media.
the nl least
The Rockies… who were expected to be one of, if not THE worst team in the league, have one more loss than us this season.
1962 was the franchise's first season so in calculations 1961 is year 0.
1969: Year 8
1973: Year 12 (4 years after 1969)
1986: Year 25 (13 years after 1973)
2000: Year 39 (14 years after 1986)
2015: Year 54 (15 years after 2000)
So there's a 12, 13, 14, and 15 going in a row right now.
By that measure the next WS appearance should be 16 years after 2015.
That puts the Mets making the World Series in 2031.
But there's an 8 also, as well as a 4. Where do they fit in?
No clue, but theoretically 8 years from 2015 is 2023.
What about 9-10-11 since they weren't represented?
2024, 2025, 2026.
5th year of the 5 year plan is 2025. That's 10 years after 2015. One could argue the Mets already had their iconic 9-11 moment so those numbers are already represented. lol
So 2025 or 2031 it is?!
Now let the FO know to build the team according to these expectations 😜
I am not that confident this FO could build a lincoln log house. In a year where, basically great FA shortstops were falling out of the sky, they blinked and gave one a billion dollar deal
The FO is more likely to build a Lee log house 😆
5th year of the 5 year plan is 2025. That's 10 years after 2015. One could argue the Mets already had their iconic 9-11 moment so those numbers are already represented. lol
So 2025 it is? lol
Why does National TV keep torturing us? We're dead; stop poking us.
As much as I hate watching this team currently, I know how much I’m gonna be longing for spring training to start back up. I really hope these guy finish the season strong.
I dont. I don’t want any potential excuses because they look somewhat okay for 2 weeks to end the season. We need a complete and utter overhaul
Of all the things that I hope change next year it's these god forsaken 7 pm weekend games.
I feel like when I was younger most Saturday games were at 1, and I started watching in 2006
The only thing the Mets can do to salvage any kind of success this season is finish 82-80. They need to go 10-4 over their final 14 games so I doubt they’ll make it.
There’s no way they can salvage this season. They were supposed to make the playoffs. Cohen said he sees the season as successful if the Mets make the playoffs before it started. Mets were in first for 90 days. This season is a absolute failure
Hard to argue with this.
This Mets team only gets fired up against the Yankees. They don’t give a fuck about losing to any other team. The Phillies hate the Mets because they are a New York team and play us hard, the Mets don’t even care. It’s so annoying.
Dude they care.
I don’t see it, not in a competitive kind of way. I don’t see the Mets get excited about beating the Phillies. The rivalry feels mostly one-sided even though they are ahead of us.
Hurry up and lose so we can get out of here
we are trash just let it go. Enjoy the last few games and flush this shit hole
Going tonight, my first game in 3 years. I have no desire to watch the Phils dance all over our graves but I couldn’t exchange. Eff this team for ruining my Sunday night
My family has GREAT time at the game last night. Sucks for me that the Mets lost LOL but the wife and kids don't mind!
The kids got their Mr. Met doll, Mets apple doll, ice cream in a helmet, popcorn in a helmet etc.
My 8 year was dancing hard in between every inning trying to get on the jumbo Tron.
Nice! Was gonna bring kids but time change makes it too late for them.
my 6 year old was ready to go by the 7th inning
This team has left no doubt that some major changes are needed. Rojas needs to be gone. Performance of the team has left no doubt he can motivate this team. Plenty of players need to be moved one way or the other. This team has completely quit and it’s embarrassing.
The Mets are 0-7 when the braves lose.
That...can't be right
Oh I was only counting since September when it mattered.
8-8 Mets/Braves H2H
I am at peace. Enjoy the last bit of baseball before the long wait to spring training. Curious how players will converge to their final year end stats. Will Pete get a few more homeruns. I have enjoyed having Terry Collins on the radio broadcast. No more thoughts about W-L column.
In previous losing Mets seasons, I comforted myself knowing that the NFL season was starting so I could watch Eli and the Giants. Now they suck too.
I want Billy Beane
Billy beane and bob Melvin would be a nice package deal.
Who saw the Mets and decided to nationally broadcast them twice?
They were hoping for DeGrom they’re getting…checks notes…Rich Hill.
It’s karma. The ESPN broadcast team is so bad they deserve a bad team.
Maybe other teams were getting jealous of GKR and they whined to reduce the GKR presence? 😜
We probably need the new ipads that are coming out so we can see the pitchers in a higher refresh rate, that will help up hit the ball.
Jesus, the Phillies might actually win the division now that we laid down and died.
What a big embarrassing failure.
Don’t worry, we’ll lay down against the Braves too
They found a new way to let us down.
I love how as a fan I’ve gone from:
“I hope we win the division” to “I hope we make the wildcard” to “let’s just play solid baseball” to “win two games against a team that’s not much better than we are” to now “the game will be background noise.”
In a month.
5.5 GB In division.
7 GB In WC
Going 2-8 last 10, and 5 losses in a row has effectively killed the season.
Cards going 9-1 and us 2-8 is ridiculous when we were tied with them last week.
Biggest win of year vs Yankees and we get swept at home by Cardinals and maybe Phillies
