Worst idea you had in your entire life because you potentially cost the Mets runs. They got the absolute minimum base progression possible because of that. If the ball hits the wall, AT WORST they get the same 2 runs, and at best, it caroms all around the outfield and they get 4. Be a smarter fan

nugget136

We should just have smarter field designs where the fans can't interfere. If that was a yankees fan that would have been a smart af move and it woulda been more bs in my opinion

three_dee

Agreed, in fact Citi Field has that (it's only possible to affect a play in a couple of spots around the ballpark).

sqqints

Take my downvote, in the split second the kid is thinking about catching the ball he is not thinking about what you just said.

0rangePolarBear

Lot of downvotes but you’re probably right. He likely knew not to reach over but his eyes are on the ball and feels like a once in a lifetime moment. It’s like a player running into the wall trying to catch a ball.

Jealous-Network-8852

He’s not a kid. He’s old enough to know you don’t do that shit. He’s lucky the umps didn’t confer and call it a “catchable ball” (it wasn’t) and call him out.

mikecronin5

Most fans never get a chance to catch a ball let alone a home run. You would’ve done the same exact thing.

sqqints

According to this sub he should’ve perfectly measured out where his glove should be so he’s not in the field of play lmfao. Fans reach over fences literally all the time but let’s kill the kid for trying to catch a ball, like he’s actively trying to hurt the Mets, just like how Bartman wasn’t trying to hurt the Cubs. It’s like it’s these ppl’s first time watching baseball or something.

Jealous-Network-8852

No, I actually wouldn’t have, because I’m not a selfish prick.

mikecronin5

How is catching a baseball being a selfish prick? People have been going to ballgames with the sole intent of catching a home run or foul ball for actual decades. Terrible take dude

Jealous-Network-8852

Catching a ball is great. Reaching into the field of play and catching a live ball is a dick move.

mikecronin5

When a ball is hit at you the average fan will not have time to react. If the ball is catchable for the fan then you really can’t get mad at them for not making a split second decision to avoid the ball.

sqqints

Fans have reached over walls to catch balls since the beginning of baseball, it’s like a knee jerk reaction. When a ball is coming towards you in a split second you don’t measure up the wall and ball trajectory so your glove is perfectly in place so you’re not in the field of play lol. This sub is so comical some times

Jealous-Network-8852

He literally reached down over the wall INTO the play field to catch it. If he’s reaching down over the wall it’s in play. Don’t do it.

CybeastID

This was no kid, and he reached way over the wall **and down** to catch it. That was *idiotic*.

mikecronin5

How old are you dude? Most fans never get a chance to catch a ball let alone a home run. You would’ve done the same exact thing. Grow up

CybeastID

As a matter of fact, no I would not have. Because A: I dislike OF seating, and B: I firmly would rather just sit there and watch the play than catch a game ball.

sqqints

If you love to just watch the games you should’ve made the observation that fans have been reaching over walls since the beginning of baseball. Everybody sympathizes with Bartman now but that same reaction he got from Cubs fans back then is the same this kid is getting now. Foolish.

CybeastID

He's being called an idiot. Not "Public Enemy #1." Big difference. And it's not over the wall I'm annoyed about. Look how far **down** he reached.

sqqints

The difference is one of them costed their team greatly and one didn’t. If the kid turned out to cost us a win let’s say, there would be even more foolish unwarranted ignorant takes. The point remains true, Bartman did NOTHING wrong, he was reacting in the moment like most humans do and I’m sure Cubs fans can look back and think how sad their reaction was towards Bartman, just like the sad reaction to this kid on a much smaller scale.

mikecronin5

Fans are either too scared to catch a ball or they’re trying to catch it. Normal fans don’t think about where the ball is when they reach out to get it. If a fan has the opportunity to catch a ball it is completely normal to try and catch it. I will never understand why fans get ejected for interference.

three_dee

He should have been thinking about it instead of whatever the fuck he did think about

sqqints

Thinking about where exactly he should be positioned should a hard hit ball be coming right at him? No way you’re serious

three_dee

It doesn't require much thought to say "leaning over the fence during a major league baseball game to interfere with a play is fucking stupid". It's drilled into your head since Little League days. Every time it happens, the person gets thrown out of the game. It's even written on the ticket. How is this somehow a calculus equation to not contort yourself 270 degrees and lean over the fence to interfere with a ball in play?

sqqints

Fuck calculus, maybe you need to study human psychology to understand why fans instinct is to reach out for a ball? Omg what demons those fans are!

three_dee

If it's just gosh-darn innocent human nature, then why do they throw them out of the stadium?

IggyStop2021

I honestly the rule on that would be dead ball, batter out. You’re lucky, you TikTok smirking, peace signing, GenZ f***head. 15,000 Mets fans wouldn’t have let you out of there alive. You’re a terrible Mets fan.

CapnKetchup2

Imagine threatening childrenren with violence over sports.

IggyStop2021

You’re next, chuckles
