[**Sweet Tooth**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zG9RuJb3QU) has some violence and scary/dark subjects - it's an apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic series adapted from a comic book series. Overall it has decent messages and some good role models and I don't think it's overly dark....not like Stranger Things, but "cute" wouldn't be the first word I'd use to describe it. If it helps, I'd suggest checking out [Common Sense Media](https://www.commonsensemedia.org/tv-reviews/sweet-tooth)'s review. There's also the [IMDb Parent's Guide](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12809988/parentalguide), which doesn't have a paywall. When I was a kid, I probably wouldn't have watched Sweet Tooth until I was 11 or 12, but then I know some of my peers were watching more violent/darker stuff younger.

Have you read the comic books? Do you think they’d be appropriate for an especially mature 10.5 year old (he hunts so blood/guts don’t phase him).

BalsamicBasil

I haven't read them sorry. I understand the comic books are popular and critically acclaimed, but **darker than the tv series** (that's really all I know). Interesting that he hunts, since in the TV series at least, a lot of the plot is centered on the hunting/persecution of human-animal hybrid children. EDIT: I did a quick Google search rn and found [**this review**](https://retrogeekery.com/is-the-sweet-tooth-comic-book-dark-and-scary/), which talks about how dark and scary the books are, and what age they are appropriate for.

Waffles and mochi!

Homeward bound? I watched it when I was younger and loved it + still do! Another is dolphin tale! I’d say milo and Otis but apparently the animals were abused while filming :(( it’s still a good and classic movie tho. You said show but these are movies,, they’re still super good tho :))

Furious_D0nut

EASILY Breaking Bad. Your 9 yr old will love it. However this is scenes with GUTS FALLING OUT OF A BATHTUB and A KID GETTING SHOT and A KID GETTING POISONED. BUT ITS PERFECT.

clay_aikenlvr

Fantastic Mr. Fox! I know you said not animated but it’s stop motion 😉 Also My Octopus Teacher, Best in Show (maybe), Homeward Bound, Paulie

Wowiejr

Dancing with the Birds is a cute little Nature Doc.

IMO2021

Octopus Teacher (documentary) Rescued by Ruby (movie)

You are posting on a Netflix subreddit, but if you have Disney+, they have the original Shaggy Dog and Shaggy DA. These are from, what, the 1950’s? But my kid that loves dog movies enjoyed them. They also have another of her favorites, The Ugly Dachshund. Netflix does have the original Benji movie, but that’s the only one I remember.

DontHailHydra

Avatar the last airbender

ExistentialSpyCrisis

Wild Babies (Netflix US). A documentary about the babes of various species learning how to survive and thrive in the wild. I really enjoyed it as an adult, and I would have loved it as a 9-year-old as well.
