My brain can’t comprehend that this animal exists

BurnerBoi_Brown

Oh my god his tiny legs are basically match-sticks

J3wb0cca

You would probably need to split a toothpick longways in half to splint it’s leg.

chelsora

Same

Japsai

Yep I had to look it up. It's bigger than it seems in this video. Turns out it's not actually a type of deer, in fact giraffes and cows are more closely related to deer. (_Tragulina_ has its own branch within the ruminant family, those others I mentioned are all in _pecora_)

iareamisme

lol

amonaloli12

The maximum height is about 45 cm and the weight is 2 kg. It is found in Indochina, Burma (isthmus of Kra), Brunei, Cambodia, China (S Yunnan), Indonesia (Kalimantan, Sumatra, and many small islands), Laos, Malaysia (peninsular Malaya, Sarawak, and many small islands), Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. They do not have horns, but the males have a pair of fangs on the upper jaw. The uniqueness of these mammals is that since the moment they appeared on Earth about 50 million years ago, they have not changed much. Therefore, looking at them, one can roughly imagine what the ancestors of modern ungulates looked like.

converter-bot

45 cm is 17.72 inches

rangeo

Football fields please

maxxwillem

0.0049222222 football fields.

rangeo

Wonder how many we could farn on a football field? I guess gotta figure out the width and space they need. End game....tiny steaks and burgers

maxxwillem

Depends on how much freedom we want to give them, do we want to sell them as biological steak and burgers?

rangeo

Fuck it going for dollars here....keep'em fat for volume at slaughter....IANAF.

Draco63_

u/useles-converter-bot 45 cm

converter-bot

45 cm is 17.72 inches

wtph

> fangs Who knew the combination of a deer, mouse, and snake could be so cute!

MyNameCannotBeSpoken

Do people keep them as pets?

ShinyShrike

No, but they eat them. They're quite tasty

Think-Bass9187

Those skinny thin legs look like they could easily snap.

BurnerBoi_Brown

Yes! Somebody pick it up!

jotatoledon

lil guy looks like an anxiety attack in 4 legs

MyNameCannotBeSpoken

These creatures need their own subreddit

wineandgrapes

Yeah, but who was the lil dude making a guest appearance??

surajvj

Look like a mouse or squirrel. Their head look similer isn't it?. Dude got mistaken for a partner and immediately fled realizing his identity mistake.😅

Mr_Culver

These are at my local zoo and you can feed them. They are so gentle when hand feeding and petting

hangoneham

Where is your local zoo?! I must meet these precious friends 😭

bndboo

That thing is all fast twitch muscle

thetieflingalchemist

AleNudy

Nomyt

PerfectNameDoesntExi

So is it a mouse or a deer?

infinity_nightowl

Yes

meowiful

It's so trembly and fragile looking. Which made me wonder about it's predators and defense mechanisms. "Male mouse deer protect themselves, and their mates, against rivals by chasing or slashing them with their sharp canines. When threatened, lesser Malay mouse deer rapidly beat their hooves on the ground at speeds of up to 7 times per second, creating a 'drum roll' (Grzimck, 1994). Predators of the mouse deer include large birds and large reptiles (Nowak and Paradiso, 1983)." https://animaldiversity.org/accounts/Tragulus_javanicus/ That stamping doesn't sound very scary but my sister used to have rabbits that would stamp over and over whenever they decided they needed cilantro immediately. It was vaguely terrifying lmao

Evildeathmonkey

But why is it so nervous? I'm getting anxiety just look at that shivering mess.

Japsai

How do you know it's nervous? It might shiver like that for a different reason.

Evildeathmonkey

Look at it.. It looks like it washed down 6 cups of coffee with 6 cups of crack.

Japsai

Ha ha ha I see what you mean. I was just thinking maybe that's their way. You know, perhaps they like to shiver a bit. Keeps them frosty.

Evildeathmonkey

I guess being a tasty snack for literally everything that walk by will do that. Lol.

Japsai

I reckon it could take that squirrel

Evildeathmonkey

Nah, bruh. Squirrels have that proper methhead energy. It would snap this twiggy-legged fool in half and eat it's nuts for breakfast. Hmm, I have a strange urge to ask you if you've ever done DMT.

Yarrowcoven13

Just think how tiny their babies would be!

hornyoldbusdriver

Do those leg movements break the sound barrier?

yimia

Comes with a treeshrew!

Sierra-Modeling

Whoa!Wow dude

Dogfoodsmy_DOC

Woah how have I never heard of this

georgiacinnamongirl

They are amazingly so delicate looking and beautiful. I do like the fact that they are very unchanged. Our planet is full of amazing creatures.

MOKclimber

I want one

karkay

Is it a mouse deer or deer mouse?

Frostgaurdian0

Reminds me of the dik dik

Gyrating_Tautle

The largest frog is bigger than the smallest deer.

1king650

Were can we buy mice deer?

sparkie0501

Cats introduced into the area will make short work of that species

[deleted]

crazy we all came from some rodent like thing million of years ago

KathleenMack

Oh my god!

COweasel

Holy shit this thing is perfect for a little action figures to ride on!

[deleted]

What if deer are just really giant mouse deer?

Important-Position93

Nervous crackhead chihuahua energy. Would probably become an apex predator if someone left out deer nuts mixed with meth. 10/10 would soothe anxious twitches in a little knitted woolen sweater.

1sosa1

Those twitches are too fast for the cameras fps

Reimbirthed

I want one

meathomie

Fuck this little ass hole

D-o-n-t_a-s-k

Is this one of those deepfakes?

lobango1978

Wow! Also, aww!

Camomilecus

I’ve read this but if I see this animal my brain still won’t process it

Unfair_Welder8108

Who's his friend? It's a Treeshrew, someone else had already pointed out here, but here's something from Wikipedia: "Treeshrews have a higher brain to body mass ratio than any other mammal, including humans"

Shiny_Hypno

The Latin name is somehow easier to say than the regular name.

Dorwojt

There's a polish parody of Duck Tales intro about this animal.

damienqwerty

But do the males have antlers?

Hydroman-Dojer

It looks like a rodent

ipi2x

Wait you are saying this is not photoshopped :O
