Name a shinobi more famous than Hatake Kakashi I’ll wait
At this era in the show? No ones probably more famous, but earlier in the show Hashirama and Minato were likely the most famous in their respective timeframes
At this era in the show? No ones probably more famous, but earlier in the show Hashirama and Minato were likely the most famous in their respective timeframes
More like J. R .R. Tolkien, I mean, Rowling is an amazing writer but she didn't fought in a war and her books where detective like ones.
On the other side Jiraiya fought in a war and aside his most famous books the XXX ones his real masterpiece it was the book of naruto, that i think is more alike to LOTR or the Hobbit
They're more famous by a wide margin. No one ever tries to fight them but psuedo divine beings and kage ranks in the story. They changed the ninja team, survived hanzo, countered chiyo, and no one wants to fight them.
Kakashi wasn't even recognized as Kakashi by chiyo. She thought he was his dad. There were akatsuki that didn't recognize him even though several akatsuki were ex-leaf. He feels more famous than he is cuz we're viewing the story from the perspective of konoha.
Sannin were prominent but only after they got their nicknames in the 3rd Great Shinobi War I think? Minato and Kakashi had real ass clout that's worldwide synonymous with their nicknames. People would literally turn their heads or take shit more seriously.
Plus it also helps that both Minato and Kakashi have distinct looks - Minato being the Yellow Flash and the 4th Hokage also demands that clout. While Kakashi - was mistaken for his father that one time, also stands out because he's the only person (at that point in time) of the series that had one eye with the sharinggan while not being a member of the Uchiha clan.
Popular in the leaf village, and among those who were knowledgeable shinobi, but even randos know kakashi and barely anyone recognized Juriah even after he makes a big show of who he is
wait wasn't there a tea village or was that filler lol i think it was called land of tea or something. i have a feeling it's filler. 🤔 it's been a while since i watched or read naruto.
It is filler. It’s the one where they are hired to protect someone during a race. Also, Land of Tea is a feudal kingdom that sends people to the leaf since they don’t have a Shinobi Village.
I made fun of them for the same thing, but there is nuance to it. Not every artifact was acquired under the same circumstances. For example, the most widely publicized artifact is the Elgin marbles, which was sold to a British collector by the Ottoman Empire who had a track record of cannibalizing Greek ruins for marble and in general didn’t value Greek culture. Greece didn’t win independence for another 17 years, at which point it was the first time Greece had ever been a unified nation *ever*. There is an argument to be made that purchasing it from the Ottomans without the knowledge of Greek independence was beneficial. That’s just one set of artifacts that is extremely nuanced and there are a ton of different scenarios.
I love the idea of him just popping up, tagging a bunch of people, smiling, and leaving. Like what the fuck do they even do at that point? Just permanently quarantine all the tagged people?
The options are: Commit suicide, Go on a suicide mission to take out as many enemies as you can before you fall, be used by your Village as bait to try (and fail) to kill Minato. I can't think of anything else you can do... Except maybe beging for your life to Minato and asking him not to teleport in you? I don't know if that would work lol.
LOL Minato didn't have a flee on sight order because he was going to kill the ninja who saw him, he had it because they didn't want him to tag one and he could teleport back to their village. By the way, Shisui had a flee on sight order too when he was just a teenager because of his famous genjutsu.
Everyone in the verse knows Kakashi from Kage to Sannin and was respected throughout I don’t think Kage’ are really famous in a traditional sense like maybe in their own village or if they were busted monsters like 3rd Kazekage, Raikage before A and those types
Each Kage is well known, they just aren’t really known on sight unless they have directly caused or ended a war or done something ridiculous. Hashirama for example tamed all 9 tailed beasts and as such is recognised as a ‘god of shinobi’, Hiruzen lead Konoha throughout the latter half of the first great ninja war, the entire of the second and third great ninja wars and was stated to be even stronger than Hashirama in his prime. What i would give to see that even though its probably been retconned.
To be honest, I personally wanted a Hiruzen One-Shot rather than a Minato. I love Minato, but we did see the man in action, and we did see big parts of his story, but we can't say the same for Hiruzen. We don't even know how he got Enma.
Although I agree, I'd have loved to know about him before the retcon (back when *he* was the god of shinobi). Nowadays, although I'm still interested, I don't care as much (imo of course)
Edit: spelling
Number one is definitely a tie between Hashirama and Madara. And despite the existence and reputation of people like various kages, the Sannin, Sakumo, Itachi, etc, only Kakashi can be number 2.
One of the most badass moments in the entire anime is when Kakashi appears in front of Tendo Pain, kicks him, has it dodged and then gets addressed with "The Copy Ninja Kakashi Hatake - I'm honoured to meet you." Like, Pain is a fucking lunatic deity, and even he respects Kakashi.
So apparently, it actually refers to both of them, although I don't recall anyone ever calling Hiruzen that. However, I've also heard people address Hirizen as professor, so that would've been my guess on that
Yea, Hashirama received his title during Shippuden (if not mistaken), and Hiruzen was referred to as God of Shinobi in the original Naruto. It looks obvious that Kishimoto retconned power levels during Shipudden (compare original Hashirama vs war Hashirama, and the original Hashirama was even stated to be as good as he was when he was Hokage), but since we didn't get any prime-Hiruzen depictions, the lack of anti-feats should lead to statements from the original series not losing their credibility, making Hiruzen (somehow) the strongest and potentially most famous pre-Naruto Hokage / Kage
Hiruzen being refered to as "God of Shinobi": https://2img.net/h/i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss336/Turrin1\_bucket/Hiruzen.png
I genuinely think that was Sasuke trying to sound cool or at least really not giving a shit about Kyuubi's opinion because just before the first Valley of the End fight Sasuke talks about the statues being Konohas founders and I think he even says that one of them is an Uchiha.
Don't even compare books to manga. Tolkien wrote whole descriptions of literally everything, he wrote dialogues, he even created language. How it can be comparable to small pictures with a bit of text?
For all of the character development criticisms I have of this show, Kakashi was done so perfectly. He scaled well, he didn't get too stupid and he stayed respectable from his first episode.
His personality stayed consistent and Naruto gracefully surpassed his sensei in the end, but not in a stupid way where he one punch kills him or anything. Kakashi is so well written.
When I was a teen reading the Naruto Mangas (1-27), in one of the issues, there were the results to a "most popular character" poll. Minato hadn't even been named yet, he was just listed as "4th hokage" in the results and was shadowed out, like a locked character in a video game.
The most popular character in the number 1 spot? None other than Hatake Kakashi.
I had no idea those polls were a thing, but it made teenage me pretty happy to see my favorite character in the number 1 spot.
Minato. Kakashi may have been famous but he didn't strike fear the way Minato did. In the Third Great War, shinobi were told to flee on sight of him. Also, the Legendary Sannin. Everyone seems to know them.
Madara Uchiha, just the the possibility of him being alive scared the world so much that all the villages allied together, despite being at odds, sometimes even war, for years.
The man who has copied 1000 techniques yet his arsenal consists of taijutsu, mud wall, clones, raikiri and kamui for the entire show. Kishimoto really knew how to build hype and have it lead nowhere sometimes.
Yea honestly his best fight was against Zabuza copyin any jutsu faster than the caster was lit before the whole copying thing was basically forgotten lol
Yeah, I think pretty much everyone wishes he did more cool jutsu copy stuff. Unfortunately the Sharingan basically just becomes a hax ability later in the series. Hypnotization, intangibility, teleportation, immortality, instant object deletion at range, giant invincible ghost armor(?)...
**Here is my Kakashi head canon:**
After developing Raikiri and using it more and more often during the 3rd War and his time in Anbu, he didn't really see a strong need to learn or use other jutsu. With his natural skill level being so much higher than most non-Kage combatants, and having the advantage of the Sharingan, Raikiri probably just ended up being enough to kill anyone he faced in one hit.
I think that the "Copy Ninja" moniker he gets comes from his time after Anbu but before the series start, where he probably just copied a ton of jutsu for the heck of it because no opponent could really give him a challenge. He builds this big reputation of knowing 1000 jutsu but he probably doesn't need them to beat anyone.
It seems like by the time the main series starts, he basically trimmed down his arsenal to just taijutsu, clones, Raikiri, and his summoning dogs to hold opponents still for Raikiri. He's rusty because he hasn't been involved in any serious conflicts in a long time, and he's probably a little depressed because all his loved ones are dead and all his genin teams have been selfish and untalented. Then by Shippuden he learns how to use Kamui, which is another ridiculously broken one shot move, so he probably puts more effort into mastering it rather than using any of the 1000 jutsu he knows.
Ultimately though, I'm just making up a narrative that fits into the existing story. The huge lack of variety in his jutsu depsite the "1000 jutsu" declaration is more than likely just a lack of plot planning from Kishimoto
Naw. Most MMA fighters and spin 36180° and kick you in the face, but stuck with a standard Front kick when in a real fight. Know what you're good at, and fight with it.
Why you even compare real world to fiction? Everything can be efficient in fiction cause everything goes as writer wants. If writer wasn't so lazy, Kakashi's arsenal would be much more interesting and that would work.
Honestly, he's also one of those characters who are wise, but always willing to learn, and they don't hold their wisdom above you like they know everything.
Naruto (if him being the main character isn't enough):
* Had a bridge named after him while still an idiot genin.
* Insta-hero status after Pain's defeat.
* Had the entirety of Sunnagakure thankful for saving their Kazekage, who now looks at him as his closest friend. Not to mention two young and cute kunoichi fangirling over him.
* Shinobi army and samurai survivors know who Naruto is.
Generationally speaking:
Sage of Six Paths Otsosuki -
Hashirama Senju, Madara Uchiha -
Lord Mu, Hiruzen Sarutobi, Third Raikage -
Hanzo, Three Sanin, White Fang Hatake -
Yellow Flash Namikaze, Kisame Hoshikage -
Kakashi Hatake, Zabuza Momochi
When older and future generations know your exploits, you’re famous… or infamous.
If he has been watching shit from within naruto and sasuke, im pretty sure he knows orochimaru intimately. Since orochi has been in sasuke as well, multiple times at least.
Only Naruto and Sasuke I think. Fighting the alien god and then playing a crucial part in her defeat + overall contribution to the war + Becoming Kage, unlikely anyone else beats him. His popularity/fame was comparable to Naruto according to the novels I think.
Maybe Hashirama or Madara but I don't think they're that famous considering that people really thought that Hiruzen was the god of shinobi.
The Sannin are kind of out of this world type of famous. Quite literally legendary characters. You don't expect to meet them.
Now Kakashi, he is more like a regular celebrity. You see him and recognise him.
One group is almost like myths, while the other is person is like an international celebrity.
Depends in the beginning Hashirama and Madara, during 2nd ninja war The Sanins, during third Minato and in the beginning of Naruto it's Kakashi later by the pain arc and beyond Naruto and end of Shippuden Naruto and Sasuke(probably).
Minato had a flee on sight order people couldn’t really talk about Minato cuz they didn’t live to most of the time lol but i also agree Kakashi was that dude
Everyone seemed to know who Itachi was. Being wanted for slaughtering the most well known clan in the world probably made him quite (in)famous.
Obviously after the war, everyone knew who Naruto was.
Tsunade was also extremely famous. She was known by every loan shark, and gambling den owner in the world. Also she was known by every Medical Ninja, and praised as the best Medical Ninja.
Not sure if the meta is a good thing or not but being that well known, AS A NINJA, with your title being literally SHARINGAN Kakashi / the COPY ninja - you know, his ace up his sleeve - I can’t tell if that just makes him that much more impressive or not.
Like, you are going to be fighting people who already know about your biggest advantage and your past exploits
How fucking good was he at assassinating blokes that he got a chidori through kakuzu. Most of the time we always see him fighting defensively etc. How many people did he just delete from existence during his emo days????
I mean he is the last surviving student of the fourth hokage, the only known person to have successfully implanted a sharingan(bc Danzo too much of a bitch to admit he did it), his dad was the fuckin white fang who was apparently infamous in certain circles, mans has a reputation without even taking into account his feats
Are you talking about the Great Naruto Bridge? As if Kakashi isn't the major reason that they're allowed to make that choice by piecing up Zabuza. Naruto only really inspired Inari to stop being a depressing douche, and hell it was Kurama who beat Haku.
I think people knew the monikers of the folks you speak of, whereas people recognized Kakashi by seeing him.
I can't remember, so please correct if I'm wrong, but didn't Itachi have to tell Kisame about who Jiraiya was. Then he goes oh, he's one of the Sannin!
Tsunade is called lady Tsunade or Princess by a lot of people including villains such as Kakuzu and Pain.
She is famous around the world for her personal achievements and lineage too
The founders must have been very famous too during their time.
At this era in the show? No ones probably more famous, but earlier in the show Hashirama and Minato were likely the most famous in their respective timeframes
What about the Sannin
At. this point in the show the Sannin weren’t very active anymore, so popularity shifted to kakashi
Jiraya had a popular erotic book series to boost his clout post Third Great Ninja War. For all we know, dude was the J.K. Rowling of Konoha
That’s not true, Jiraiya loved seeing Naruto in Trans Mode
Lmaoooooo
wish awards were still here
Best comment I've seen in a while
Holy under-rated
Woooow 😭
Top comment
nahhhh but you didn't have to do JK Rowling like that 💀💀💀 holy shit
Why lma0. Its hilarious
Nah she deserves that and worse
More like J. R .R. Tolkien, I mean, Rowling is an amazing writer but she didn't fought in a war and her books where detective like ones. On the other side Jiraiya fought in a war and aside his most famous books the XXX ones his real masterpiece it was the book of naruto, that i think is more alike to LOTR or the Hobbit
It wasn't popular tho... Kakashi was like the only customer
Of the world**
They're more famous by a wide margin. No one ever tries to fight them but psuedo divine beings and kage ranks in the story. I think Orochimaru became pretty famous when he slaughtered 2 kage. Not in a good way, but everyone surely knew his name
Nobody besides Hashirama and Hagaromo is more famous than Oro. Kakashi is like Drake. Orochimaru is like Bin Laden.
Orochimaru being invited to Naruto's wedding would be like if Bin Laden was invited to a 9/11 anniversary.
If bin Laden was unkillable, I think after 20 yrs they’ll just be like “u invited to the bbq”
i think that’s a fair comparison
That's why they call it infamous
who was more hated in the Shinobi world Orochimaru or Danzo? 0.0
The guy has class and majestic vibe to him. Even Hagoromo knows him lol
Hagoromo the goat 🐐
Hagoromo knows everybody 💀💀
Obito didn’t just lose rin to kakashi, he lost the fame too 💀
Well, he gave the fame to him.
If only he knew he could’ve pulled bitches if he had taken the sharingan back 🗿
I mean, the problem with Obito isn’t that he didn’t get the eye back, it’s everything else that’s wrong with him. Lol
I had a stroke reading that
Definitely
Bond. James Bond
More like Hatake Kakashi sharingan
If you this about it James Bond is basically a British shinobi
Village of the Hidden Tea Leaf
His majesties village of the hidden tea leaf does have a nice ring to it. They all have British accents and their clan powers are all British af.
Imperial Art: Divide and Conquer Imperial Art: Straight-Line Borders Legal Art: Questionable Treaty of Shenanigans
Imperial Art: “Acquiring” Artifact (its more nuanced than most give them credit for, but I’m still going to meme on them)
Meanwhile USA in world war 2: Science art, particle style, midnight sun jutsu
Native art, water style, trail of tears jutsu. American art, fire style, columbine jutsu
Oof.
I just got off work and got to read these, I love yall made me laugh out loud.
Hiden Jutsu small pox blankets. Hiden Jutsu colonial famine.
There’s no ramen shop but there is a place with unseasoned beans.
wait wasn't there a tea village or was that filler lol i think it was called land of tea or something. i have a feeling it's filler. 🤔 it's been a while since i watched or read naruto.
It is filler. It’s the one where they are hired to protect someone during a race. Also, Land of Tea is a feudal kingdom that sends people to the leaf since they don’t have a Shinobi Village.
ohhh right right right. wasabi and wagarashi. it's coming back to me now. thanks!
No tea came from elsewhere James Bond is from the Village Hidden Under a Pile of Stolen Cultural Relics
Real
Hatake. Kakashi Hakake (Bond theme plays)
Kakashit Bukkake
Minato namikaze(yellow flash of hidden leaf)
Minato “IF YOU SEE HIM GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE HE WILL KILL YOU” Namikaze
“If you see a blond ninja it’s already too late” If Drake was a ninja, probably
Even if he's not killing you, once he tag you. You'll immediately become walking bomb for your village.
I love the idea of him just popping up, tagging a bunch of people, smiling, and leaving. Like what the fuck do they even do at that point? Just permanently quarantine all the tagged people?

The deadly version of a "kick me" sign in the shinobi world.
More like Minato “IF YOU SEE HIM GET THE FUCK OUT OF THER... /*dies/*” Namikaze
LOL Minato didn't have a flee on sight order because he was going to kill the ninja who saw him, he had it because they didn't want him to tag one and he could teleport back to their village. By the way, Shisui had a flee on sight order too when he was just a teenager because of his famous genjutsu.
Like master like student
Nah, that was more of a leaf village and people who fought him thing.
I think master jiraiya is more famous than Kakashi because of his perverted novels, !🤡
Everyone in the verse knows Kakashi from Kage to Sannin and was respected throughout I don’t think Kage’ are really famous in a traditional sense like maybe in their own village or if they were busted monsters like 3rd Kazekage, Raikage before A and those types

That was technically Hashiramas moniker, but if you're referring to Hagoromo, I'm not really counting him.
Nope, talking about Hiruzen, that's his nickname Hagoromo is obviously more famous, not counting him as a character, he's a myth

Sasuke didn’t know who Madara was when he confronted Naruto & Kyūbi at the Orochimaru hideout.
I genuinely think that was Sasuke trying to sound cool or at least really not giving a shit about Kyuubi's opinion because just before the first Valley of the End fight Sasuke talks about the statues being Konohas founders and I think he even says that one of them is an Uchiha.
It was also just Kishi's writing
Yeah he wasn't perfectly consistent. But I give him some lean way on that front seeing how much he churned out qnd how quickly
Yeah of course. And who prepares 15 years of details of a story all in advance? Just enjoy the ride.
Nut jobs like Tolkien hahaha and what a ride it was.
Fair
Don't even compare books to manga. Tolkien wrote whole descriptions of literally everything, he wrote dialogues, he even created language. How it can be comparable to small pictures with a bit of text?

Kakashi “Mr. Worldwide” Hatake.

Agreed
DMS was pretty stupid but fortunately it was extremely short.
When I was a teen reading the Naruto Mangas (1-27), in one of the issues, there were the results to a "most popular character" poll. Pretty sure that he was in the top 3 for the entire run of Naruto - remains my favourite character in anything ever aha ☺️
90% of games I play I name myself Kakashi lol
After the series ended they tallied up the results of all of the polls. Kakashi was number one after all was said and done.
OP is talking about in-universe popularity, not who is popular in the fandom
Kakasi? Yes, the copy ninja. The copy ninja? Of the sharingan, the copy ninja. Tes, the copy ninja. Kakashi, the copy ninja of the sharingan.
The man who has copied 1000 techniques yet his arsenal consists of taijutsu, mud wall, clones, raikiri and kamui for the entire show. Kishimoto really knew how to build hype and have it lead nowhere sometimes.

Infamously Madara Uchiha.
Madara?
Being a celebrity ninja is kind of an oxymoron.
Jiraya, wanted for sex offences in more than 5 villages probably
Ig sage if six paths and yellow flash is pretty famous as kakashi
Itachi was probably more popular than him (in the PTS). S-rank criminal who massacred the well known Uchiha clan ; everybody must’ve heard his name.
Minato
Man deserved to be hokage
Spoiler alert: he was.
Same tho, everybody knows kakashi is not seen in entire boruto manga
Maybe madara or minato
Minato had the flee on sight order

Sorry if the spelling is off. Autocorrect is a pain.
Kakashi is him
“They used to say it’s an honor to meet the copy ninja then whoop his ass”
Mr Worldwide 😎 Swear everytime Kakashi is on screen there’s always someone who says “ayooo that’s Kakashi! 👀”
Orochimaru probably
does hagoromo know of him? didn't think so.
If he has been watching shit from within naruto and sasuke, im pretty sure he knows orochimaru intimately. Since orochi has been in sasuke as well, multiple times at least.
no he is shadowy so no one really knows him
Uchiha Madara and Senju Hashirama
Guy still doesn't remember who Madara is 😭

Jiraiya is famous as an author
Makes the whole Shinobi and hiding in plain sight thing more egregious
kakashi is more famous but pain is more influential.
Minato
The Sanin, Madara and Hashirama, Minato. Pretty much any Kage.
The Legendary Sannin
The Sannin are kind of out of this world type of famous. Quite literally legendary characters. You don't expect to meet them. Now Kakashi, he is more like a regular celebrity. You see him and recognise him. One group is almost like myths, while the other is person is like an international celebrity.
The yellow flash of the leaf. Minato Namikaze
Mr. Worldwide
How many people did he just delete from existence during his emo days????
madara
This was probably the level of clout his dad had
Hashirama and Madara.
Madara
Love him but to have copied 1000 jutsus only to use the same few was a bummer. Wish Kishi could’ve incorporated more (if it was possible)
I would say only jiraya would be close. Don’t have sources but if itachi and kisame had heard enough to be scared of him he couldn’t be irrelavent
Minato had the run on sight order from multiple nations for a reason
naruto after the war
I've been telling y'all, Kakashi was the real MVP of the series, bro got the most important in the village without even campaigning.
Uchiha madara
Damn I miss watching Naruto
Mr. International
Nah cuz even hagoromo knows kakashi💀
Naruto
I mean he is the last surviving student of the fourth hokage, the only known person to have successfully implanted a sharingan(bc Danzo too much of a bitch to admit he did it), his dad was the fuckin white fang who was apparently infamous in certain circles, mans has a reputation without even taking into account his feats
At this point in the show? I guess Hashirama and Madara, Minato.
Mr Worldwide
The legendary sannin
Itachi, but I guess he would be infamous when alive.
ANBU's worst kept secret.
Probably the sannin
Does kakashi have a landmark named after him because of something he did as a fledgeling genin?
Are you talking about the Great Naruto Bridge? As if Kakashi isn't the major reason that they're allowed to make that choice by piecing up Zabuza. Naruto only really inspired Inari to stop being a depressing douche, and hell it was Kurama who beat Haku.
None of that changes the fact that the bridge is ultimately named after Naruto and not Kakashi
None of that changes the fact that everyone knows it was Kakashi who did all the fighting.
Bridge still isn’t named after him lol
every kages ever, 3 sannin, sasuke, madara, itachi, 7 swordmen, probably the guy that had sex with kaguya was famous in his era
I think people knew the monikers of the folks you speak of, whereas people recognized Kakashi by seeing him. I can't remember, so please correct if I'm wrong, but didn't Itachi have to tell Kisame about who Jiraiya was. Then he goes oh, he's one of the Sannin!
Most of the men you listed here know Kakashi
and? you asked who is more popular, Obama knows who is Kim Jong Un, it doesn't mean Kim is more popular
Remembered that post where every opponent says it's an honor to meet the copy ninja Kakashi and then beat his ass.
Hashirama, madara
"Ninjas" are supposed to be discrete so isn't him being famous kinda a bad thing?
No his work talk for him
Madara Uchiha....
Hashirama
Hokage Naruto, hamura, Hogoromo, ashura, Indra, Kakashi's dad (the white fang) , minato namikaze
I believe Madara because of the sheer terror that his name spread
Minato literally
Tsunade is called lady Tsunade or Princess by a lot of people including villains such as Kakuzu and Pain. She is famous around the world for her personal achievements and lineage too The founders must have been very famous too during their time.
The Ramen guy
Madara?
Hashirama?
My favourite naruto character. I love him
The sannin are more famous than Kakashi
All of that just to get whoped five minutes into the fight 😭
Literally Naruto???
imo he's more famous in the Boruto verse. Bro ended the Shinobi wars and brought peace single handedly
