I think Volpe leading off again today pretty much solidifies that he has made the team and will be our starting shortstop on opening day
I’d put money on it
I think it’s a pretty real thing that Volpe is leading off and playing short.. again. Especially in the homer of the SS with Cole on the bump. I’m now like 65/35 that Volpe will be the opening day shortstop.
I would project next Thursday’s lineup to be:
DJ 2B
Judge CF
Rizzo 1B
Stanton RF
Torres DH
Donaldson 3B
Cabrera LF
Trevino C
Volpe SS
Bench would be:
Higgy
IKF
Hicks
Ortega
It’s the only way to get all the best bats in the lineup, and on opening day I’d expect the Yankees to put their best foot forward. Torres will definitely play 2nd a ton but this is their show lineup.
Wonder if we get a round of cuts tonight after the split squad games.
By my count, there are 37 healthy players still in camp. So we have to trim 11 more.
This has been said many times before, but we’re less than a week from the season and they wouldn’t keep having Volpe lead off if he weren’t making the team IMO.
There is a very real chance, idk if I would put a number on it but it’s a real chance, that Anthony Volpe makes the roster. He is once again starting at shortstop and leading off today

I read this as gerrit cole's kid's breakout year, they grow up so fast
Born and bred in a Yankees laboratory.

Volpe being at the home game and Peraza away also might mean something

Torres won't DH, he is historically terrible when he does.
Gleyber has only played 14 games at DH in his entire career. That is not enough data to make any conclusive claims.
He is like 1 for 33 as a DH....
Does being historically terrible at something matter when the Yankees put together their lineup? Asking for a friend.....

This is pretty late in ST for a split squad game. Makes sense that they would make some cuts tonight for tomorrow.
[Me seeing that Cole has a televised start](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fG2abIqX6lE)
I will make it legal
