My wife says it's the bobbleheads that are cursed
Last season
1. Rudy Gay
2. Patty Mills
This season
1. Derrick White
2. Dejountae Murray
If it's true, Keldon isn't safe and neither is the Coyote....
Same. Bought a kawhi jersey right when he got injured...never even wore it. Bought a aldridge on sale then he left (expected that one. Now bought a Fiesta Murray at the end of the season. I might never buy a jersey again tbh
Oh of course you guys should be sad! Murray is so good. But the "All I know is pain" comment is a big hyperbole haha. Coming in as a knicks fan that guy doesn't know true pain.
The secret is tricking yourself into believing every young guy/half decent scrub you have is going to be the next big thing and that next season is always your season. These little tricks got me through years of mediocrity as a raps fan
Honestly for us it's that we're dead inside due to decades of lolknicks. Spurs are still seen as a top tier team so you guys actually have hope of things turning around. The hope might makes things more painful LOL. But we cope through memes and drugs.
Im so heartbroken my bros. I understand that this could result in a generational talent but this guy was the heart and soul of our team. He fully embodied the spurs culture. Man, this one hurts.
The thing I dislike most about this is that the hawks picks won’t even be good. At least the Knicks would have been back in the lotto sooner than later
The protection lasts a few years. So if the pick is in the lottery this year, it moves to the 2024 pick where we see again if it's in the top 16. Then again to 2025, and if it's top 16 in that draft we then receive the second rounders in 2026.
It’s time to trade Poeltl and embrace the tank. This is heartbreaking, my favourite Spur since I became a fan. The All Star nod felt so incredible, I appreciate the season he gave us last year so much it was great
This Charlotte pick is protected 1-16 in 2023 and then 1-14 the following two years before converting for two seconds…
The best case scenario for one of the three picks is that it is #15 in 2024… Are you kidding me
Picks in the 20s don’t have to be trash, especially with a front office that’s good at drafting. Those picks probably won’t generate a star player but they may lead to a couple of good role players, which teams need as well. Assuming the spurs still own their own picks, they’ll probably have at least a couple shots at a star player with their picks.
This would be similar to the griz rebuild where they used their own high lottery picks to get JJJ and Ja, and then traded for late first round picks to pick up high quality role players in Clarke and Bane.
One less pick and one of their young players and I’d be happy
This is a meh trade even when you factor in us doing it to tank, it’s a really bad trade at face value
Not a bad deal for us, we sold high on DJs value. Lets be real, he was never leading us to the promised land. Everyone wanted us to make a big move and be decisive on a direction—here we go.
everyone defends PATFO tooth and nail until it’s something they disagree with, and honestly it’s usually because of bias.
i feel like they made the best trade possible based on their intel/predictions, we don’t really have any reason to think otherwise
Hawks fan here, the picks you're getting are pretty far out. 2025, 2026 (pick swap), 2027. 5 years is an eternity in the NBA. 5 years ago the Nets were last, the Hawks were 5th on the backs of Paul Millsap, Dennis Schroeder, Dwight Howard.
Granted, Collins is under contract until 2026 and Trae 2027, so you imagine that the Hawks will be good during that time period, but we still have decisions to make on Hunter next year, Murray now in 2 years, and Capela in 3 years. If we mess up those decisions, we could be mediocre. Or if Trae happens to run into significant injuries in that 2025-2027 time frame, we're essentially screwed. I know no one here would root for that to happen, but it happens all the time, so the Spurs are essentially betting the odds.
U don’t know where those picks will be one is top 16 protected. News flash: big FAs aren’t coming to SA meaning we will necessarily have to get better via the draft. The absolute worst thing you can be in the NBA is average—the spurs fo picked a direction and was decisive about it. We’re gonna have a top 5 draft pick next year next to some solid young pieces, so just chill out.
DJ is a good player but lets be reasonable here, he’s not leading any team to the promised land. He had the highest usage stats out of anyone nit names lebron or luka, a lot of those #s he put up are not indicative of him being a top tier talent. I love the guy but its savvy to have moved him now.
I'm just so fucking devasted man.
Sure, he's not a superstar, but Dejounte is still a fantastic player who, most of all, had his heart fully in San Antonio.
Dude lived and breathed silver & black, he must be so hurt by this. I feel for the guy.
For our team's sake I sure hope Wright's tanking strategy is gonna pay off, because right now I'm really missing RC's vision.
RC's vision was derailed by the Kawhi saga. I remember reading in like 2015-2016 that the Spurs had game planned the next 10 years with Kawhi as the center piece of the team. I can almost guarantee that Pop/Wright are in unison with the decisions being made and I'm sure RC is right there in that mix. He is the guy who scouted Samanic for us as well as scouting Avdija a few yrs back
Exactly. I think a lot of people don't realize how much Uncle Dennis and Kawhi really fucked the Spurs long-term plans. Could've probably gotten another ring, probably two, in the 2010s. LMA and Derozan always felt like a weird middle-tier period in Spurs history for this reason.
Nah. Fuck this, I'm out.
I'll see you guys when the season starts- but I don't have the emotional energy to follow this team for a while after this. I could truly and honestly cry.
Hope we enjoy the 3 mid to high 20s picks we get from Atlanta while they make another playoff run this year.
He was our home grown all star who loved our city and embraced our culture. We didn't even get Okongwu.
Don't try to tell me this was a good trade.
Woah...hope a player is involved and just hasnt been reporter yet or this would sting a little. The pics are nice but that's not a godfather level offer.
DJ has tweeted constantly about wanting to win for years. He’s gonna be 26 in a month and expiring in 2 years while our core is mostly 19-21 and a long time away from competing.
I wish we would’ve gotten Okongwu, but this was the right move
Dejounte was gone in two years anyway. He’s my fav player but we gotta be honest. If we kept him we would get two more play-in finishes and then he would sign somewhere else (while being enormously pressured by Klutch) and we would get nothing. Dejounte wants to win and there really wasn’t a path forward to winning anytime soon. We need someone to build around, a perennial star, and you know who those guys are sooner rather than later and Dejounte isn’t that but is too good to ever give us the chance at getting a player like that either.
100%
2023 is super talented, great draft. But the odds to land the No. 1 or 2 pick (Wemby, Scoot), would be around 30% even if you do bottom out.
Feels like trading Dejounte for three 1st rounders, isn’t the best value, but who knows, maybe it was.
Edit: Well, 25’ & 27’ are both unprotected, so I think this is an excellent trade now
You take that shot if you're the Spurs. No chance in hell you get a generational type of player if you're stuck at purgatory hell. All out tank for the best odds to get that franchise player since Spurs ain't signing one for the foreseeable future.
How the fuck does this happen for fucking lottery protected pick(s)? Brian Wright just threw out every fucking ounce of goodwill anyone developed during the draft.
What the fuck are we doing? Is this going full tank? I really liked this team centered around Dejounte. They were fun to watch. Why tank now? Could have tanked last year and got Chet.
Was i overrateing Dejounte or something?
I dont see any logical reason to trade him. 25 years old, most improved candidate, allstar??? what am i missing??
Not good enough to carry the team further on his own. No foreseeable future where we can surround him with talent. It's unfortunate, but makes sense to me.
And he’ll probably qualify for a Super Max by the time his next contract rolls around.
I wish the return had been better, but we’re treading water with or without him so I don’t hate this.
you cant be stuck in mediocrity in the NBA. the reality is this team just isn’t good enough to be able to contend, and cap space means nothing when no superstars are on the market.
I boo this. Whether or not it’s a “good trade”, I loved watching DJ grow, be a leader, and always have his boy’s back. So tough to let him go for… hopefully good players?
I honestly don’t get it. I understand he’s not gonna bring the chip being the no. 1 option, but that mf actually wants to play there. Why not build around him and see what happens??
The worst part of this is that it’s not like we are in a salary situation where we have to trade dejounte away. We easily could have kept him and see how the season went, then decided to make a move. Others have mentioned how those picks are not great, but I’m also really baffled that we didn’t even get one young asset back. Hitting jackpot on those picks are going to be super hard.
this is the much more likely reality that pro-tankers never admit. Stephs, Duncans, Jordans, Lebrons happen like once a decade, but somehow we're totally getting the next one after 1 tank year /s
It sucks, but ultimately I trust the FO on seeing something longer term than we can. Dejounte is a star but he’s not the man, he wants to win, and this sub complained about letting LMA and DeMar go for so little. I think if we were floundering in a few years when he was up for the max people would be even more mad. We’ll see how it plays out.
couldnt even get collins to use as a trade piece. gallo will just get a buy out.
this front office is trash. the kawhi trade and debacle was trash, the demar trade was so bad, freakin thadeus young instead of markinen, who wasnt even that expensive. just too precious to be taken seriously.
now trade a young allstar for trash picks, big whoop.
those draft picks are so spread out, that is like years of tanking and we have had 4 shit years already.
Actually awful, awful trade (not just salty).
The Charlotte 2023 pick is full-lottery protected. Meaning that it has 0 value since Charlotte will 100% be a lottery team this year.
The 2025 pick will still be in Murray and Young's (and Collins) primes, and the hawks should be absolutely contenders with the expected decline of KD, Harden, Butler, and Embiid's injury history. Expecting mid to late 20's on these picks. The 2026 is a pick swap (basically 0 value), and the 2027 one is the only one that will probably be a good pick. We also got 0% increased odds for Wenbanyama out of this trade.
Total haul:
0 value: Gallo (filler); Charlottes 2023 pick (will never convey)
Basically 0 value: 2025 pick/2026 swap (will likely be in late 20's, aka where we already drafted this year)
Possibly good/unknown value: 2027 pick.
What an absolute, total shitshow. Absent primo/the picks we got this year panning out, the spurs are going to be garbage at *least* the next 3-4 years.
Terrible fucking decision. D fought and bled and even sacrificed his acl for this team and was so loyal. In an age where loyalty is dying out they just got rid of one of the most loyal dogs out there
This deal is gonna be perfect for emptying the last bit of seats in the AT&T Center and completing the last leg of the big hop to the Moody Center for good.
Terrible trade. We need a young guy back or another 1st. What the F are we gonna do with 15-20 picks? Massive underpay for Murray compared to what Jrue got. You still have two years left of Murray at a discount.
MY JERSEY PURCHASES ARE FUCKING CURSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife says it's the bobbleheads that are cursed Last season 1. Rudy Gay 2. Patty Mills This season 1. Derrick White 2. Dejountae Murray If it's true, Keldon isn't safe and neither is the Coyote....
Lma, and Demar also have bobbleheads.
Same. Bought a kawhi jersey right when he got injured...never even wore it. Bought a aldridge on sale then he left (expected that one. Now bought a Fiesta Murray at the end of the season. I might never buy a jersey again tbh
Told my wife she’s cursed and from now on she can only buy retired players. Kawhi, LMA and now Murray. Sad spurs noises…
Could you please buy a Doug McDermott jersey lol
I’ll tell her lol
I have a Kawhi and Derrick White jersey I feel your pain lmao
Hit that buyback program lol
Pain
All I know is pain
you're a spurs fan, this is objectively not true.
Tbf, this is like our (fans) second heartbreak over losing a player we invested in. So, the pain is amplified
Oh of course you guys should be sad! Murray is so good. But the "All I know is pain" comment is a big hyperbole haha. Coming in as a knicks fan that guy doesn't know true pain.
Pacers baby!! The only win we got is a meme gif of Reggie making the choke sign at Spike Lee..
Now that you gave a perspective, you are right. So how do we cope? Asking because of your experience 😅
They became a Spurs fan after we traded Tony Parker All they knows is pain.
Well at least now we can stop worring about where DJ will get traded and start worrying about where Jakob will get traded!
Hope we can get at least 1 first for Jakob.
[удалено]
Jakob is better than that
My fiesta jersey :(
NOOO!!!!
I’m going to throw up
Im fucking sad
the thought of murray in a hawks uni is disgusting, wtf spurs office
We decide to offload a star who wanted to be with us forever after trying to force a disgruntled star to stay. Let’s see how it goes
I love DeJounte but he was a fringe All Star. We weren't going to win with him as a centerpiece.
Is this true?
i have no reason to think he wouldn’t have asked for a trade in 6 months it’s not like he was without an ego
I guess this means Zach & Deandre aren't coming. 😂
Im so heartbroken my bros. I understand that this could result in a generational talent but this guy was the heart and soul of our team. He fully embodied the spurs culture. Man, this one hurts.
Yea agreed. He bled black and silver through and through
Don’t worry, you got something of a generational talent in return.
Hey he'll make the All star team easily and will get a lot more press being in Atlanta, so i bet he's ok with it.
Easily? Beal, LaVine, Harden, Garland, Young, DeRozan, Butler, Middleton, Jaylen Brown, maybe Irving. I don’t see many all-star appearances for him.
The thing I dislike most about this is that the hawks picks won’t even be good. At least the Knicks would have been back in the lotto sooner than later
One of the picks is Charlotte's pick next year
Charlotte pick is lottery protected
What does lottery protected mean?
If the pick is in the lottery, it stays with Charlotte
Thank you. So if Charlotte does have a lotto pick we get their second round pick?
No it moves onto the next year and the protections get lighter.
The protection lasts a few years. So if the pick is in the lottery this year, it moves to the 2024 pick where we see again if it's in the top 16. Then again to 2025, and if it's top 16 in that draft we then receive the second rounders in 2026.
For how long? It's gonna be unprotected at some point, I'm not confident in Charlotte being any good for a while.
When it’s unprotected, it becomes second rounders
Jesus, that's some turning into a pumpkin shit.
it turns into 2 seconds in like 2 or 3 years
Lottery protected at least for the next two years I believe, maybe 3
They got a charlotte pic
2023 top 16 protected… not great
Super not great
Charlotte pick is lottery protected
It’s time to trade Poeltl and embrace the tank. This is heartbreaking, my favourite Spur since I became a fan. The All Star nod felt so incredible, I appreciate the season he gave us last year so much it was great
I thought I wanted this and now that it’s real I want to take it all back
Watched Yama highlights, got excited about the possibility. Now I’m trapped in a chasm of despair.
This Charlotte pick is protected 1-16 in 2023 and then 1-14 the following two years before converting for two seconds… The best case scenario for one of the three picks is that it is #15 in 2024… Are you kidding me
Fuck.
No :(
Makes no sense ,watch those picks be in the 20s
Was thinking the same thing. Up and coming super star in Young. Gave them an excellent, borderline main guy, in DJ. Those picks are going to be trash
Picks in the 20s don’t have to be trash, especially with a front office that’s good at drafting. Those picks probably won’t generate a star player but they may lead to a couple of good role players, which teams need as well. This would be similar to the griz rebuild where they used their own high lottery picks to get JJJ and Ja, and then traded for late first round picks to pick up high quality role players in Clarke and Bane.
"godfather deal" gtfoh
How the fuck did we not get Okongwu? Would literally fit our team perfectly.
My tank bros...what have we done? I...I'm sorry. I didn't want this. I didn't want...
NOOOOO
4 *unprotected*? No okongwu is sad.
Looks like 3 unprotected and a pick swap
Hope the pick swap is laaaaaate.
2026, one pick is Charlotte's 2023.
2 unprotected in 2025 and 2027 a swap in 2026 and charlottes protected first next year
The most valuable pick is protected. That's weak as fuck.
One less pick and one of their young players and I’d be happy This is a meh trade even when you factor in us doing it to tank, it’s a really bad trade at face value
Not a bad deal for us, we sold high on DJs value. Lets be real, he was never leading us to the promised land. Everyone wanted us to make a big move and be decisive on a direction—here we go.

I wouldn’t even hire Danilo shine my fucking shoes.
Not getting a young player back sucks but 3 firsts is still 3 firsts. Can potentially be used in a later trade
The Charlotte pick is protected and the Atlanta picks will be mid to high 20s at best.
The Charlotte is protected?? F.
SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME
Lol. The one player who made watching every game worthwhile the last couple of years GONE.
Dude first year I get half season tickets. Fuck everythingggggg
Wembanyama time
Woah...hope a player is involved and just hasnt been reporter yet or this would sting a little. The pics are nice but that's not a godfather level offer.
Cray. We just develop players for other teams now.
Welcome to life as a Small Market Team.
Going to miss DJ a lot but this is the right move in the long term
DJ was 25, he should have been in the long term plan
DJ has tweeted constantly about wanting to win for years. He’s gonna be 26 in a month and expiring in 2 years while our core is mostly 19-21 and a long time away from competing. I wish we would’ve gotten Okongwu, but this was the right move
Agreed, he’s ahead of our current timeline. If Kawhi didnt fuck up our timeline, he would’ve fit right in but instead we needed to rebuild
David Robinson wasn't on Tim Duncan's timeline but that worked out pretty well .
way different scenario, Spurs were already a playoff team before Tim Duncan so
David Robinson got injured for a season allowing the team to tank and get a generational player 1st overall. Did you see that happening with us ?
Dejounte was gone in two years anyway. He’s my fav player but we gotta be honest. If we kept him we would get two more play-in finishes and then he would sign somewhere else (while being enormously pressured by Klutch) and we would get nothing. Dejounte wants to win and there really wasn’t a path forward to winning anytime soon. We need someone to build around, a perennial star, and you know who those guys are sooner rather than later and Dejounte isn’t that but is too good to ever give us the chance at getting a player like that either.

I think the odds are 14 percent
You take that shot if you're the Spurs. No chance in hell you get a generational type of player if you're stuck at purgatory hell. All out tank for the best odds to get that franchise player since Spurs ain't signing one for the foreseeable future.
Wtf
How the fuck does this happen for fucking lottery protected pick(s)? Brian Wright just threw out every fucking ounce of goodwill anyone developed during the draft.
What the fuck are we doing? Is this going full tank? I really liked this team centered around Dejounte. They were fun to watch. Why tank now? Could have tanked last year and got Chet.
Tanking would require trading away DJ, and doing that last year would've yielded a lot less.
Nah man fuck off
Was i overrateing Dejounte or something? I dont see any logical reason to trade him. 25 years old, most improved candidate, allstar??? what am i missing??
Not good enough to carry the team further on his own. No foreseeable future where we can surround him with talent. It's unfortunate, but makes sense to me.
And he’ll probably qualify for a Super Max by the time his next contract rolls around. I wish the return had been better, but we’re treading water with or without him so I don’t hate this.
25 year old all star, $34M in cap space. Brian Wright: “wElL I gUeSs iT’s TiMe tO tAnK”. Fuck this.
you cant be stuck in mediocrity in the NBA. the reality is this team just isn’t good enough to be able to contend, and cap space means nothing when no superstars are on the market.
Wemby
We aren't getting wemby and anyone thinking we are is setting themselves up for a horrendous disappointment
Even if we get Wemby there’s no telling if it’ll even work out or not.
Seems like you're setting up for next year's draft though, really don't understand why you would trade Murray otherwise
A maximum 14% chance at some mystery box player. Dejounte’s Dejounte but Wemby could be anything! He could even be Dejounte!
So much for culture and character. We're OKC now.
OKC would've been better than us keeping DJ in 1-2 years and the foreseeable future.
Wish the front office made that decision in the derozan/aldrige era instead of giving away a 25 yr old allstar for nothing :(
I am in shambles.
Gotta get those 2025-2027 picks to make sure the Spurs put a solid team together for that 2033 move to Austin.
Everybody calm the F down. It’s happening
saving all these comments for the future lmao
Specifically, this team next year.
I hate it here
I boo this. Whether or not it’s a “good trade”, I loved watching DJ grow, be a leader, and always have his boy’s back. So tough to let him go for… hopefully good players?
Now you're going to tank?
Terrible. I’ll miss you DJ so much. Made me start watching basketball again.
nice to see we’re just a farm program to develop players and execs before shipping them off lol fucking losers
I honestly don’t get it. I understand he’s not gonna bring the chip being the no. 1 option, but that mf actually wants to play there. Why not build around him and see what happens??
fucking fade me
Love it. Let's rebuild this mf.
Can’t wait to tank so that we can get another player like DJ so that we can trade him too
this is the much more likely reality that pro-tankers never admit. Stephs, Duncans, Jordans, Lebrons happen like once a decade, but somehow we're totally getting the next one after 1 tank year /s
It sucks, but ultimately I trust the FO on seeing something longer term than we can. I think if we were floundering in a few years when he was up for the max people would be even more mad. We’ll see how it plays out.
Danilo is dogshit. I’d rather have gotten a refrigerator in return.
He won't be here long.
BRO, I HATE THE SPURS RN
FUCK. THIS.
Didn't expect the team to be this awful post Kawhi and the big 3. We might become another Bulls, which really sucks.
Another Bulls? You mean another Rockets? Or Thunder?
wtf
I swear, it's like our front office doesn't want to compete for play-in spots every season.
Finally got his Fiesta jersey as the season ended and was hyped with our draft (Baylor fan), but now I'm just bummed about next season :(
couldnt even get collins to use as a trade piece. gallo will just get a buy out. this front office is trash. the kawhi trade and debacle was trash, the demar trade was so bad, freakin thadeus young instead of markinen, who wasnt even that expensive. just too precious to be taken seriously. now trade a young allstar for trash picks, big whoop. those draft picks are so spread out, that is like years of tanking and we have had 4 shit years already.

I'm literally gonna cry
Absolutely FLEECED by the Hawks. Sorry y’all
Terrible trade. We need a young guy back or another 1st. What the F are we gonna do with 15-20 picks? Massive underpay for Murray compared to what Jrue got. You still have two years left of Murray at a discount.
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy what?
This just feels bad man. Real bad
I guess the tank is official
I gotta stop buying jerseys man. Walker, DJ, Kawhi, Danny green…. Fuck.
Damn this stinks
I’m sad And angry. I don’t even get the trade
This feels like such a bad deal
What the fuck man?
End me
whyy
this sucks
This is BS, What the hell is the FO doing, People used to say the Spurs don't rebuild, they reload but we have clearly thrown that out the window
We didn't rebuild because we always had a Hall of Famer to fall back on. Dejounte was an All-Star replacement. Big difference.
Just constantly screaming into my pillow and punching air
damn
Omfg
Is Pop retiring or something we don't know?
Sadness.
L
Im so fucking sad
Well this sucks. I need a beer.
Gonna jump off a bridge brb
The people that agree with the three first round picks are acting like a first round pick is a guaranteed top notch player.
Fuckkkkkk
This hurts. :(
What the hell? I'm halfway to jumping the boat.
WHY ARE THE PICKS SO BAD
What the fuck just happened!?
They called me stupid for calling out our front office a few days ago!
mannnnnn this hurts
Damn it actually happened
We’ve had the most boring/disappointing offseasons as far as I can remember.
Am about to take a chlorine shot if anyone wants to join me
Fleeced again!

I thought he was trolling because he was so sure hed stay...
:(
I’m sick bruh
