They didn't change the fight no.
No extra damage, no change to the mechanics.
You need to hit the elemental threshold topple to lower eschaton judgements damage so you can heal through it comfortably. One or two astera jerky timed well is enough
Nothing has changed.
Your friend dealt with Alatreon the way you're supposed too, which is meeting elemental damage checks on his horn and breaking them before his escaton judgment. It wipes you if you don't, so focus his head with the opposite element and the fight itself isn't too bad, though you still need to spend things healing through Escaton.
I assume he didn't know this and did it without knowing, or just forgot. 2 player scaling made meeting the dps checks harder and brought on the confusion.
Eschaton Judgement is based on how much damage you do to it. It'll be fully powerful when you don't do enough, moderate when the Handler says "You're doing a good job containing Alatreon's power!" And weak damage when she says "You've contained a lot of Alatreon's power!"
Breaking the horns stops it swapping Active states. I think almost all of its damage habe dragon elemental damage as well as fire or ice. Lightning is something else to worry about but not too much since you're able to telegraph the lightning attacks by the blue spots on the ground before they go off.
Bodily attacks are dragon elemental as well as raw damage, so your main worries should be on Dragon, Fire, Ice and raw damage.
If you're doing the assigned quest I think it starts in Fire Active so you'll want high Ice elemental attack, and vice versa if I'm wrong, been ages since I did the assigned quest.
The fight scales in difficulty with the amount of players as Alatreon has more health with 2 players as opposed to solo and I think its def is higher too along with damage output?
Damage output is the same per attack. But might use certain attacks more often.
Thanks for the clarification
monster HP with 2/3(/4) players is higher but "damage needed per player" is lower as the HP doesn't go up by the same factor as player number (so less than HPx2 with two players)
and you forgot to mention (although it's nearly obvious) that the escaton gets weakened by elemental damage done not any damage
Is it better to use melee or ranged for this? Alatreon moves around A LOT.
You can use either, but with ranged you have to make your ammo counts for every shot + micro manage your ammo.
I use long swords and bows
there's loads of alatreon help threads on the sub if you search for it
and you can't in any way iframe (or otherwise escape) alatreon ultimate ticks, not even with supermandive so you definitely didn't survive \*longer bc of that
Not saying I survived, my friend just got carted a second or two before me cause the damage hit me later than it did for him.
whoops forgot the "longer" after the "survive"
i understood as much
Yeah it’s no different than it was before your friend probably just always hit the threshold without realizing it and now in multiplayer it’s higher and you both have to work hard to hit it. And just on a side note I wouldn’t put full reliance into the armor to beat fatalis it’s ok for that fight it is really good for defense but you need high DPS as well to beat him before time runs out.
Okay so I gotta warn you now Huge Info dump so I'm terribly sorry in advance...
Alatreon is a pretty difficult fight overall but your main focus is two things really, dealing as MUCH elemental damage as possible during his fire/ice phase and breaking his horns during his dragon phase. bluntly its just a DPS race...
When you deal enough damage to Alatreon with elemental damage (Not aliments) it will knock it over with Ash- Your Handler mentioning that "X amount" of Alatreon's power is shut down this is not just a prime opportunity to deal massive damage but this is required to survive his super move much more easily.
Along with this during his Dragon mode phase his horns can be broken and if you manage to break them before he uses his super move he will be stuck in the mode he was beforehand (say if he was in fire mode before he will return back to fire mode instead of going to Ice mode)
I highly suggest getting gear focused on dealing Elemental damage specifically Ice since both story variants always start in Fire mode.
Thankfully Iceborne has several weapons you can use to fight it properly. Kjarr Weapons (Kulve Taroth's Master rank variant) have pretty alright sharpness to an extent with white sharpness, has poor slots, but has fairly decent damage scaling but thats not the important part. It has the highest elemental damage in the game and I'm not even mentioning additional upgrades visa, augments and special upgrades exclusive to non-unique weapon types and Jewels which is a huge boon already.
Kjarr weapons also have Critical element meaning you can increase the amount of elemental damage even more with every crit you land.
The next best two weapons is of course Frostfang Barioth's weapons and below that Shrieking legiana's weapons but I highly suggest getting Frostfang's but if he is too much of an annoyance Shrieking is your next "best" poison...
Now this is where the fun begins for Armor you will need at least 4 slots of Safi-Jiiva's armor to get his special effect. When you unsheathe your weapon you can gain up to over 120+ elemental boost, and 40% Affinity this is a HUGE buff in elemental damage so this along with Critical eye +7 and a small hint of Weakness exploit to tip it off will lend you on average over 80% Crit per attack assuming you miss weak spots this is huge especially for Alatreon as you will have (if you stacked everything right) over 1000 Ice element stat + an 80% chance to deal additional Ice damage with the Kjarr CB its insane. I suggest trying the build out yourself if you had the chance.
Also before I forget to get past the passive Bleed ticks per swing you make with Safi's armor just get the HP augment for your weapon and you will be able to heal enough to outheal the damage...but that depends on what type of weapon you have of course...
For slots I highly recommend getting the following
Its as obvious as its going to get unfortunately...
For breaking his horns during his Dragon phase.
Health Boost +3
He hits like a truck even with upgraded Safi Armor...
Blight resistance is also fairly good but Safi already gives you resist +2 so if you want full resistance get the last point.
Evade window +3 is already available with Safi's build which is really generous for this fight but if you want you can fill the remaining slots with Evade wi- HEY! HEY! Wait! Please put down that pitch fork and torch!!- Okay good thank you...as I was saying you can also put in Evade...Extender and fill the rest with whatever makes your fight against Alatreon as smooth as possible...
Another note of interest don't forget about Food buffs! Elemental defense (L) is EXTREMELY USEFUL against Alatreon as it gives you 15 points towards elemental resistances very very good do not pass up on it. also if you're lucky you can squeeze in some feline insurance or if you are feeling especially confident (but not really TOO confident...) you can ditch the element (L) and go for Safeguard to protect your party from getting punished once visa carting its very good to have on difficult fights such as this..
Other than that...thats all I got to tell you...Other than learning Alatreon's patterns exploiting his weaknesses and vulnerabilities and learning when to sharpen your blade when it gets low _**Quick tip being Wheltstone fin+!**_ and slowly learning his fight one death at a time you'll eventually kill him and do it consistently...cause god forbid you are gonna need his Dragonsphire for Fatty...
Again sorry for the Info dump...and I pray this helps you beat Alatreon!
what system do you play on.
We're on PS4
If ya'll still need help, I can assist. Alatreon is about all I hunt these days anyway.
