> After some retrospect, the Ephemerate/Witness package was a bit too weak on its own and led to worse hands consistently, it was time to try something new. And it worked! I think this is the best version of the archetype. You can hardly call it “Blink” anymore! It’s kinda like “Affinity” in a sense
You don’t need to mince words, you can call the deck what it is.
4-Colour Stuff.
Joking aside, I’m real sad to see Ephemerate go, and I’m hoping it’s just a metagame call? Guess we’ll find out. For now, I’m just gonna switch back to playing OG Elementals because if Blink is the best deck, it makes actual Elementals with Risen Reef lot better.
Honestly I disagree? With/without Ephemerate is a huge difference. If it wasn’t really different then why would it affect the Shadow matchup so drastically?
It’s the usual consistency vs power trade off that always pops up in Magic. Ephemerate gives you more explosive turns, but fares worse when opposing decks are specialized at dismantling your gameplan like Shadow.
It's a bit of a meta call, since Ephemerate is one of the worst cards against Shadow due to all of GDS's cheap removal. And GDS has been on of the most popular decks online
Who needs ephemerate when you can run a million natural 2 for 1s.
Removal is trash against your deck already so there’s no need to risk starting hands with dead ephemerates.
And just like that, no Shadow in the top 8 and only 4 in the top 32.
Did... Did the meta adapt? Again? Shocker.
I appreciate the strong answers printed in MH2 (Solitude, Fury, P.Ending) because now decks can actually counter each other instead of just trying to go faster in a linear arms race.
Yeah I was *extremely* confused when people said the meta would stagnate with Shadow.
Elemental piles just needed to drop Ephemerate and focus on becoming more controlling, with a ton of 2-for-1s to make their Shadow matchup good, and now Shadow is significantly worse.
Can’t wait for people to say the meta has stagnated into Elemental piles, and then be wrong again when Tron, Dredge, and Belcher stomp the shit out of these piles and rotate the meta again.
Temur Footfalls:
Decks start adopting [[Ashiok, Dream Render]] to hose decks with tutor wincon, notably ([[Chord of Calling]], [[Whir of Invention]], [[Summoner's Pact]], [[Primeval Titan]], and [[Neoform]]).
[[Inevitable Betrayal]] seems to be a meta call. Emrakul, [[Serra's Emissary]], and [[Archon of Cruelty]] seem to be a pain to deal with, also Neoform [[Griselbrand]].
With decks start playing around [[Blood Moon]] as you suspend your Footfalls on turn 1, [[Endurance]]s are mainboarded over [[Blood Moon]], and much less of dead cards when getting matched against monocolored decks.
Nice to see [[Subtlety]] back with big mana decks like Tron and Titan start creeping into the metagame. Better get your copies before it spikes like the other Evoke Elementals.
[[Foundation Breaker]] is a nice sixth copy of [[Discenchant]] effects that bypasses Eidolon of the Great Revel, [[Void Mirror]], Roiling Vortex and Spell Pierce.
Wtf is top 14 lol. Why that arbitrary cut off instead of the normal top 8, 16, 32, 64, etc? Oh wait 15 & 16 aren’t red decks. I see why now.
Your premise isn’t wrong. Red is extremely powerful; however, your reporting is a bit disingenuous/ misrepresented.
Like I said your premise isn’t wrong but you discredit yourself with such misrepresentation of data. I mean stuff like that isn’t going to slip by unnoticed.
The thing is, there’s no cutoff at 16. The only cutoff that matters is top 8. So I don’t really get why people get so incredibly upset about talking about 14 instead of 16. It’s a standings, if this were sports people would say exactly 14, not 16.
I wouldn’t say I’m incredibly upset. I just think it is odd to do a 14 cutoff, to intentionally skew the data albeit extremely minor. It doesn’t make sense to me to potentially throw my argument out to some, present excluded, for a few % points.
Sports is a bit different as there aren’t nearly as many entries and those are completely different when it comes to structuring and play offs. For example nfl has only 32 teams. It doesn’t make sense to say top 16 as it’s half the teams.
As far as I know when it comes to sports tournaments they are typically called championship, semifinals, and quarter finals, which gives you a top 8 (in the quarter finals), the previous bracket is top 16 so it makes complete sense to go by top 16 as opposed to top 14 which will give you an odd number of teams/individuals in the quarter finals.
Well 8 of the top 14 are 3-color decks, so labeling them “red decks” isn’t really fair if you’re trying to say that red is too strong.
Also, between Blink, Belcher, Footfalls, Shadow, and Burn, they each play a very different set of red cards with only a handful of overlaps.
Yo what happened to hammer? Not complaining though…. Currently buying into it and was terrified that it was gonna get hit today. Hopefully this comment ages well
Honestly hammer has no reason to fear bnr. It's been a consistently performing archetype for a year, sure, but it's not hyper warping and it isn't going to live or die over a single card being banned the way that faithless looting decks did.
Reasons for hammer to not see top32 here is that showcase metas are a bit more closed since they are qualified instead of opens, relatively poor matchups into GDS, murktide, and honestly any deck willing to put sideboard slots into EE and run a lot of interaction. The 4c omnath decks evolved to be more controlly this weekend which can also weaken the deck.
Much like Burn, hammer can be hated out if enough of the meta respects it.
> After some retrospect, the Ephemerate/Witness package was a bit too weak on its own and led to worse hands consistently, it was time to try something new. And it worked! It's 4 color omnath, like always

Was referring to deck name, just that
Eh, the agreed upon name for the deck has always been 4C Blink, idk where “like always” came from, is all.
like always as in it ALWAYS plays Omnath no matter what.
I always just heard the deck being called "Money Pile".
So are Yorion decks just straight up cutting ephemerate now?
Ephemerate was too cheap. You need ragavans to keep up with the money pile name.
It's a bit of a meta call, since Ephemerate is one of the worst cards against Shadow due to all of GDS's cheap removal. And GDS has been on of the most popular decks online

The shadow player in 22nd place could play Lurrus as a companion and just … doesn’t
They’re just getting ready for tomorrow
Bob... Belcher?

Unfortunately if people are right and there's a modern ban/unban tomorrow we will never know. :(
No Living End in the top 32? Hopefully WotC bans things tomorrow until it is. /s
Ban soul-guide lantern?
Nah tbh just ban t3f and we good.
This but unironically
As a Footfalls player, I'm with you.
Fuck 4c Money Piles. Fuck them to hell tomorrow. And especially fuck Omnath.

almost 30% lurrus decks but we dont need to ban companions right
