People seem really negative on your decks, but I would argue that they’re still quite serviceable. I would say they are totally worth upgrading if you’re interested in going that route but are still perfectly playable at your local meta as you take the time to upgrade them. I wouldn’t recommend taking these decks directly to a gp, but for fnm, these will certainly win games. For blue moon, your biggest upgrades you’ll want to do are probably getting the following cards: [[murktide regent]] and [[archmage’s charm]] and you can also cleanly replace remand with regular ol’ [[counterspell]] Here’s a version of a newer version of that list: https://mtgdecks.net/Modern/blue-moon-decklist-by-maccaciock-1265882 For your jund list, the kids call this jund style boomer jund. I personally love that naming convention. If you want to skip out on the huge price tag that is [[ragavan nimble pilferer]] the cards you’ll mostly want to add to your collection would be a couple each of [[kroxa Titan of death’s hunger]] [[seasoned pyromancer]] and [[wrenn and six]] otherwise you can still be playing all you goyf, bloodbraid, and lilis. Here’s an example of that style jund deck. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/3808417#paper Though not in this list some other cards I like in jund are [[bonecrusher giant]] [[dauthi voidwalker]] and you can definitely still play some number of your confidants. Knowing how to pilot your decks well will give you better win equity than any card will give you. And these two decks look both well placed and fairly easy to upgrade. Hope this was helpful.

Woahbikes

Also adding to this, if you did decide to get ragavan, it is a super good card you could play in either or both decks. Might be worth keeping in mind as you look to upgrade the decks.

InsaneVanity

I would also comment that wrenn and six should be getting reprinted this year, so if ragavans price tag scares you, so will w6. Can always hold out like I am waiting for the reprint.

Woahbikes

Most lists that play w6 only play 2-3 of it which is better than the 4 ragavan in every deck that plays it. I was as able to trade my w6 when they had peak value for a lot of stuff. I would like to get them again, but I’ll hold out until a reprint. Has wotc said it’s getting reprinted or is that just speculation?

brianandstuff

It's the key art for the next Double Masters Edit: rather, in [this video](https://youtu.be/DPrq5jk5J04) at 31:29, Forsythe says "Double Masters 2022 comes out next summer" and it cuts straight to the art for w6 lol

Woahbikes

I watched that nearly live and I guess I just missed that. Very cool.

AbsoluteIridium

did they also show Force of Negation in this stream or am i dreaming this out of a hope that they do

MostlyRoastedToast

Maybe in a secret lair foil etched alt art extended directors cut… I hope he is reprinted normally tho if I’m bein 💯

Routersmiter

Modern has changed a lot in the last couple of years with 2 sets especially for modern. Starting with your UR deck its pretty similar to blue moon. With \[\[Counterspell\]\] being printed into the format, you couple replace the remands and disrupting shoals with \[\[archamage's charm\]\] and Counterspells. and replacing \[\[Pia and kiran\]\], and thing in the ice with \[\[murktide regents \]\] you're realistically looking at maybe 100$ to upgrade it to blue moon, as well playing \[\[consider\]\] which is just straight better then opt and though scour. Jund as always is going to be the one of most expensive decks in the format. You really have 2 options of going the \[\[lurrus\]\] or zoomer build. Or the Boomer jund which still plays lilly and bbe. \[\[wrenn and six\]\] was printed in mh1 and it allows you to hit land drops and snipe small creatures, a set of foil wrenns is \~1200 and regular ones maybe 450-500 for a set. Urza's saga is played in the zoomer variant with Lurrus as a grinding wincon. both versions of jund also play \[\[ragavan\]\] which is one of the strongest one drops to be printed since \[\[death-rite shaman\]\] a set of ragavan would probably set you back around \~300 while foil ones would be \~600 for a set. Modern as is expensive the regular versions of the cards you would need to update blue moon are pretty realistic, and affordable honestly. That's probably the best move

RedThragtusk

Thanks, it looks like upgrading my UR shell will be the cheapest/easiest thing to do. Can't believe how much Jund has changed though!

Zenith2017

If you look at BR rock or jund saga, although the players are very different you'll see it's the same plan of discard, wide answers and efficient threats

hsiale

Wrenn and Six will be reprinted in the summer in Double Masters 2, should be cheaper then.

These are still serviceable, you won't crush, but you can start picking up some newer (mh1/2) staples that will bring you up to speed. Good luck and welcome back :) To answer honestly.... To "optimize" you're looking at between 600-1k I'd imagine, but like I said, your lists.. While not optimal, can totally hang at an fnm still. Just don't expect to dominate if you're playing competent players with updated decks.

GaulixIP2X

Hi. Welcome back ! A must have is expressive iteration !

bosshoss42069

UR with Ragavan is not the only izzet deck. Blue moon is still a thing my friend. You’ll want to pick up counterspell, fire/ice and consider for the cheap swaps then trim your curve a bit. The 1 of faerie of choice these days is [[brazen borrower]]. Threat wise most folks are on some number of [[murktide regents]], a couple of the new evoke elementals, and of course snapcater mage. If you want to stick to Titi there are versions that use [[dress down]]. Welcome back to blue moon fam. I wouldn’t worry too much about the haters on the thread. Modern has some polarized takes right now and the naysayers are loud. Jund these days is most commonly a lurrus deck but Reid Duke still gets plenty of miles out of his Boomer Jund builds I would look up his latest lists.

RedThragtusk

Any reason why Brazen Borrower is used now instead of Clique? Is it because there's less combo decks?

bosshoss42069

Yea less combo more decks playing to the field. Petty theft is a good catch all answer that works really well against opposing murktides, and saga tokens in particular. The UR control builds these days tend to be more of a tempo plan then hard control which favors the versatility of borrower. I should also mention [[archmages charm]] from MH1 is quite the powers house with all of its modes being super relevant to the meta game.

Old-school Jund (aka "Boomer Jund") still exists, but it's a low-tier deck. The most expensive upgrade for this one is W6. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/4496889#paper Most of the players moved into a new build, but this one is going to be quite expensive to upgrade, 1k just from Ragavan+W6+Saga. It also drops two of the cards you mentioned as your favorites. :( https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/4522560#paper The izzet side is a bit easier. Izzet Control is a Tier 2.5-ish deck, with a lot of variation between lists, but this one looks like a good starting point. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/4520982#paper As far as expensive cards go you're probably looking at some copies of Murktide Regent as a finisher (2-3x), a playset of Archmage's Charm, and maybe a couple copies of Fury.

coolmodern

Nevermind the decks, lets talk about those sleeves...

Beefman0

For real, actually just the dirtiest sleeves I have ever seen lmao

RedThragtusk

They were sitting in a cupboard for 5 years!

levetzki

The UR deck will be easy to upgrade on a budget. It can be super expensive depending on which way you want to go. Monkey is expensive. Though a controlling route with thing in the ice and dress down, Jace, and control cards will not be to much to put together. Notable cards for the upgrades are Dress down Counter spell Expressive iteration Archmages charm Unholy heat Fire//ice Expensive upgrades to consider Force of negation (seeing less play in control than before. Could be good but it's an expensive card I don't actually think it's worth it) Murktide regent Anger? (Forget the name of the red evoke guy) The main ones I think are necessary are going to be expressive iteration, unholy heat, counterspell and dress down. You don't even truly need to be running bauble for unholy heat. Instant, sorcery, creature, and land will do it. Bauble makes it easier sure but jaces and thing in the ice are more controlling at least in my eyes. Cuts - disrupting shoul - worse than force of negation, could just swap it right for counterspell if you want to keep remands Lighthouse Pia and kirin - can't outgrind the powerful creatures printed recently. Gets wrecked by the red evoke creature Keranos - I love this card but it is to slow these days. Toughtsour - change to a sorcery if you need it for delirium if not run the surveil instant. I don't know the name Roast - unholy heat is so good. Much better even if it may be slightly hard to turn on. How much you want to invest to make this deck the top tier deck for the format - a lot. Monkey and evoke guy are expensive How much to make it a solid blue moon deck - not bad

This has to be bait. Sorry friend bad news. You’re gunna have to fork out a lot of dosh. Modern Horizons sets greatly increased the power and cost of the format. But hey, you may find something you enjoyed more than your old favorites: bbe, liliana, or snappy.

Keljhan

Jace, snap, the moons and cryptic are all still good/great right now. The mana is basically the same, so all OP has to do for blue moon is update The counterspells and cantrips really. It’s not t1 but if you like jace it’s pretty solid.

Wasteland_Hero

Same thought here. The three “favorite” cards listed are just about the top three mainstays that have seen themselves fall out of favor and see very little play. Just seems a little perfect…

So youre saying MH1 and MH2 didnt change the format with each release? I think Tron would like to have a word with you.

Hot_Wash

It upgraded decks yes, but didn't rapidly change the format, you could still play the same decks just with a little tweaking > I think Tron would like to have a word with you. About what?

Thulack

How it went from well positioned to not. Along with Humans(and any other tribal for that matter), Prison style decks. Yeah you can still play them but they are no where near as strong as they were before those sets.

Hot_Wash

>Along with Humans(and any other tribal for that matter) Oh no they went from a tier 1 deck to a tier.....2 deck >Prison style decks Did we forget about lantern >Yeah you can still play them but they are no where near as strong as they were before those sets And? That's pretty normal

danmar33

Is it really the same deck if you have to swap out >50% of the cards?

Hot_Wash

Yes

DynaSerra

> That's not even remotely true anyone denying that modern is a rotating format now is overdosing in copium

Hot_Wash

>anyone denying that modern is a rotating format now is overdosing in copium Glad you're in the minority then

DynaSerra

newsflash: the votation to make you king of the world hasnt happened yet. so Im afraid that at least for the time being your opinion is not law yet, and you dont get to decide who is the majority and who the minority p.s: check out the latest podcast from the mtggoldfish crew about modern: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/podcast-362-modern-or-mortgage-payment and then spare 5 minutes to ponder who has more audience and influence, these guys or you...altho I suppose its all for naugth. if you have managed to succesfully convince youself that modern is not a rotating format now, you probably will also think your opinion actually carries any weight. guess there's no limit to how badly one can self delude himself when he puts every effort on it

Hot_Wash

>p.s: check out the latest podcast from the mtggoldfish crew about modern: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/podcast-362-modern-or-mortgage-payment Ahh yes , mtggoldfish, the be all and end all of the modern format >and then spare 5 minutes to ponder who has more audience and influence, these guys or you And may I ask, who are you again?

DynaSerra

> Ahh yes , mtggoldfish, the be all and end all of the modern format I mean, the alternative you are offering is /u/Hot_Wash, aka Mr-Random-Internet-Nobody-Extraordinaire. Its nothing short of hilarious how you still havent catched up to how meaningless you are

Hot_Wash

>I mean, the alternative you are offering is /u/Hot-Wash aka Mr-Random-Internet-Nobody-Extraordinaire Never offered Oh but why do you think it's a rotating format?

DynaSerra

> Oh but why do you think it's a rotating format? I have better things to do than wasting my invaluable time on someone that only wants to delude himself and deny reality. I dont think for even one second that your question is genuine and your actually interested in listening to arguments.... specially since I just provided you with a link where a number of mtg personalities discuss the issue at length and you clearly havent bothered listening to it, which perfectly highlights your intention to disregard anything other than your preconcieved idea.

Ungestuem

This is what the common UR deck looks like nowadays: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/mtgo-standings/modern-challenge-2021-12-27#none

Dangerous-Following7

People are being ridiculous in this thread. More than playable, especially at your LGS. You can pick up some pieces and be competitive locally, go have some fun. True it would be a different story if you entered a GP or played MODO etc

danmar33

Simple! All you have to do to upgrade that U/R deck is just replace all but 4 nonland cards.

According-Spend-4535

Yep because blue moon doesent exist. What would we do without wanna-be pros I wonder?

As others have mentioned, the UR deck will be the easiest to update to 2022 modern. The big additions you’re going to want are Counterspell, Expressive Iteration, Archmage charm, some more efficient threats and a delirium package. For the last part, that would look like Mishra’s bauble, Unholy Heat and Dragon Rage Channeler. I’d switch out the shoals for Counterspell, thing in the ice for Channeler, and roast/spellsnare for unholy heat first because those are all going to be pretty cheap and you’ll have a playable deck with just those changes. Next I’d swap p&k clique and electrolyze for the charms replace the ops, Thoughtscour and some number of visions for bauble and consider and replace the UR god, blood moons and Jace for a more efficient threat. Murktide regent and ragavan would be the best choice but it’s a little pricey for a play set of both. As far as the mana base, the dual lands from MH1 are really good so I’d definitely integrate at least one of those and I’d cut out any colorless lands since Counterspell puts so much stress on the mana base.

ZealousidealField386

So the blue package Counterspell/Archmage's Charm/Cryptic is pretty good. Counterspell is a buck and Charm is $15, so it won't be too hard to upgrade to that. Force of Negation should happen if you're real competitive but that's $100 a pop so . . . Other than that, honestly not much of the UR deck is 'bad'. A Rogue list, sure, but not bad at all. Jund could use some tinkering, Fulminator is a bit slow so either some slimming down or leaning into the bigger stuff with, say, Ignoble Hierarch for ramp would be in order. Again, not really bad . . . Rogue for sure, but not bad. The meta looks pretty different now, but both of those are interactive decks that run much of the same interaction that's currently available (outside white. White got a big buff in the last year or two, from just Stoneforge being unbanned to Prismatic Ending and Solitude)

I’m new to modern but I play the Boomer Jund list shown at the start of [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SubViv6eNcU) video. It’s a long video but even watching just one match gave me great insight as to some good lines for this archetype, as well as some new cards that made the cut (Wrenn and Six, Seasoned Pyromancer, etc.) Reid Duke is one of the best players in magic and Jund is his pet deck so I trust his judgment on the Boomer archetype. In a recent article he even mentioned that he had considered bringing this list to the recent MTG Vegas competitive event. That said I’ll concede that Lurrus Jund decks are much better positioned. Reid himself even admits that the deck isn’t that strong, and that the Boomer list in all likelihood wouldn’t have made Day 2 at MTG Vegas. Personally, Lili and BBE are too much fun for me to pass up on so I play Boomer. Regardless of power level, if you check mtgtop8.com you’ll see that occasionally Boomer Jund Top 8’s a big event. I think there was just a big team event in Chicago that had Boomer Jund in the top 8. The archetype has also been represented recently in the weekly 5-0 MTGO Modern league threads here on this subreddit so that’s something too. The deck has a following and you wouldn’t be the only one playing it

fnkarnage

Non-rotating! LOL
