Sligh Red - almost there, looking for some "spike" advise

SkredBoi420

The Real Spike Move would be play the Obosh Sligh Budget deck that is currently solid Tier 2. Your list would be sweet in a different modern. I love Skred, but I had to accept that it will not win anything except a Cool Contest. Good luck, I hope you find a list you like.

❤️❤️

Res_Novae

I mean to be fair, you could play the stock obosh red list but play snow covered mountains and replace flame slash with skred.

SkredBoi420

My username is SkredBoi, not FlameSlashBoi. Unfortunately Skred still falls flat in that it can’t answer x/4s (Dryad, maybe spellskite and stretching TItI) before T4. But building on that, Skred will not answer common 1 cmc x/2s until at least T2. Edit: I thought about it more. Skred and slash fill completely different roles. Skred is a late game removal spell that is best in formats where P/t corresponds to cmc. Flame slash is best in the early game to remove bigger threats that drop early. Obosh sligh is looking to use dart/slash as early removal spells and save lightning bolt/ firebolt as more valuable spells. Skred decks look to use bolt as early removal and transition to the mid/late game where Skred is used to control bigger threats to could take over your koth.

LegacyBrewPub

Yeah. Different decks though.

SpookPookie

I think it's the most current version of the "sligh" archetype tbh

SkredBoi420

It’s the Sligh deck of the meta that’s also budget. It’s put up plenty of results. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

DamonXWind

Hazoret and dragonlord are the only cards maindeck keeping you from playing Obosh which is at the head of the most popular sligh list in the meta atm. Obosh Skred sounds hot af to me

LegacyBrewPub

Ive really been mulling that one over. That's where I'm leaning towards next

AppFritz

You could run [[Grove of the Burnwillows]] vs Death Shadow. While you don't need Green, it can hose DS decks from my experience. Certainly helped me when I went to GP Vegas in 2018

LordWesquire

This is kind of just a worse version of the Skred Dragons deck

LegacyBrewPub

Thanks for the warm feedback. Got a link?

LordWesquire

I played this for like 2 years. It was never very great and it is even worse now that SSG is gone. Something similar won an SCG classic though. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/skred-drags-1/?cb=1619475149

LegacyBrewPub

Nice! Very similar. I use to run Koth years ago to. It's pretty surprising how close that is.

LordWesquire

Koth, Sarkhan, and Glorybringer are really the only things worth trying to play this for. Unfortunately skred is one of the worst cards in this and Skred Red. It doesn't ramp fast enough and it is too limited. It needs a 4 drop dragon with haste or a good 3 drop, and it needs another spell of Modern power level that plays with snow.
