Wasn't there like some rabbit power-up in one of the Mario Land games?
Those games are already more-obscure than every other mainline title, so I'd imagine that one, or some other power-up from them, would be the "most-forgettable".
A lot of features and ennemies from SMB2 are very often referenced, the game got a remake on the SNES, they just never talk about Subcon even when 3D World was an obvious reference to it
For Mario Land, we got Daisy (that barely references anything from Mario Land), Tatanga having a small role in Super Mario Land 2, and the Superball item in Mario Maker 2, that's pretty much all for a, I think at least 30 years old game?
The overworld map, secret exits, secret levels only unlocked by exiting through enough secret exits, power-up houses, a "True ending" from completing certain criteria. Especially for a game on the Gameboy with the limitations of the hardware -- it's a super cohesive, super fun, game that gives you a totally awesome adventure.
A single feather on the front of a hat doesn’t step on any toes culturally like a handband or full headdress. The most problematic Mario has been were the endings for Qix on GameBoy. One of them features Mario in blackface.
I dunno… I think it’s treading a line.
But yeah, I was not aware of [Black Mario](https://images.app.goo.gl/sT3jiShitGfYGBoT8)…. that’s, uh. Yeah, not good.
Wow. So I googled this and the first thing that comes up is a Nintendo life article from January 2015 about this pretty much asking if the world is too sensitive nowadays to be offended by this.
Imagine Nintendo life writing that article in 2022. Would never fly.
I'm still confused why they chose a feather. Like sure they didn't have color so they had to do something else but using a feather while the game before that already had a feather as an item is kinda weird.
Do you mean Hachisuke the Hudson bee? I’m surprised to hear someone say that here! I was lookin to see if anyone mentioned it because I was going to say it! Good job.
Honestly, I think the only reason I remember it is because it's the icon used by Supper Mario Broth, even then it doesn't register as a powerup at first.
Anyone who is aware of the gold flower power up
Theirs a lot of power ups that get referenced in the more recent Mario Kart games through costumes hell even specifically the Mario Galaxy version of the ice flower was a costume for Mario in one of the arcade MK games
Silver Mario and Metal Mario are different things Silver Mario comes from MK Home Circuit
The Gold Flower turns Luigi silver in NSMB2 and Silver and Gold costumes are available for both Mario and Luigi in MKHC so both would be referencing the Gold Flower
As a map item, the music box and anchor were both far more obscure.
Music boxes let you put enemy blockades to sleep. The anchor could only be obtained in like half of the game’s worlds, and just lets you go to that world’s airship without having to chase after it.
Both items are kind of useless, in my opinion.
I'd say it's either the anchor from SMB3 or the Bee from Super Mario Bros Special.
The anchor belongs to an extremely popular game but when's the last time you've seen anyone mention it or acknowledge it's existance?
The bee is just extremely obscure.
heres an interesting one, the rainbow star from super mario galaxy.
the reason why its forgettable is because its functionally identical to super stars from other games, which means you forget that its a completely different item.
are you talking about power ups or items (i.e pow blocks, springs)? because if we’re counting items it’s definitely the stone block from the mm2 story mode
No doubt in top ten is the education game they made where Mario needs to be saved by Luigi and he travels across the world learning facts, whatever the title is.
Main Series:
Invinsibility Leaf from Super Mario 3D Land
(not to be confused with Invincibility Bell from Super Mario 3D World)
Mario Kart:
Double Dash's fireballs (Mario and Luigi's special item)
(not to be confused with MK7's onward fire flower
Carrot, because its a carrot.
I dunno, most Power Ups in the Mario franchise are so diverse, fun, and unique in their own ways that its genuinely hard to pick apart a specific one that is forgettable.
Yeah, Considering Fludd is the basis of Mario Sunshine and Mario Sunshine is cherished and loved by fans, Fludd is for sure not the most forgettable power-up.
Wasn't there like some rabbit power-up in one of the Mario Land games? Those games are already more-obscure than every other mainline title, so I'd imagine that one, or some other power-up from them, would be the "most-forgettable".
I would say the Superball Flower, but it reappears in SMM2
I wish Nintendo would stop acting like these games never happened
He says, in response to a relatively recent game that didn't act like those games never happened
Which?
SMM2
Yeah I was really happy about the Superball item in SMM2! Hope that's a start
I feel the same way about most of SMB2.
Bro there is smb2 mushroom in smm2 thoug
Read: most. I realize they use a shy guy here and a birdo there, but overall Nintendo seems embarrassed by SMB2 US.
A lot of features and ennemies from SMB2 are very often referenced, the game got a remake on the SNES, they just never talk about Subcon even when 3D World was an obvious reference to it For Mario Land, we got Daisy (that barely references anything from Mario Land), Tatanga having a small role in Super Mario Land 2, and the Superball item in Mario Maker 2, that's pretty much all for a, I think at least 30 years old game?
Tbh Super Mario Land 2 is one of my favorite Mario games ever
It's well worth being a fave. It included so many cool features that people totally over look

"True ending" Tell me more
It really was a revelation after the first title being developed as "this is the best we can do on handheld."
A remake from the ground up would be awesome
The fire flower gives Mario a feather in the middle of his forehead in that game too. I’m not sure that’s aged very well, like, culturally.
A single feather on the front of a hat doesn’t step on any toes culturally like a handband or full headdress. The most problematic Mario has been were the endings for Qix on GameBoy. One of them features Mario in blackface.

Maria?
Ugh, fixed. My first attempt my came out as Marion. I hate autocorrect.
The Carrot?
The Vanish Cap from Mario 64
I think it's neat Luigi can use it
The Bee (not bee mushroom) or the 3 Up Moon
Do you mean Hachisuke the Hudson bee? I’m surprised to hear someone say that here! I was lookin to see if anyone mentioned it because I was going to say it! Good job.
Great minds think alike!
In which Mario game is the Hudson Soft logo bee found?
The 3 Up moon got brought back in NSMBU, and was made more frequent if you played as Toadettw in the deluxe version.
Is this the mushroom that creates the super creepy skinny Mario in Mario Maker?
Yes it is
Umm whatever is in Wario land that makes him into a Zombie?
I think just getting bitten by a zombie does that. Gosh, that game is strange. Fun, but strange.
>Gosh, that game is strange. Fun, but strange. The entire Wario Land series in nutshell
Invincible cat bell, only obtainable via amiibo
No, you can die over and over again in the same level for it
Thats the invincible leaf
Oh yeah
The uhh Carrot from Sml2
Honestly, I think the only reason I remember it is because it's the icon used by Supper Mario Broth, even then it doesn't register as a powerup at first.
Thanks to u/waffeelswaffeels for his original post
the wing from super mario bros special
Gold flower
At least that one gets referenced with the gold and silver costumes in Mario Kart 8, Tour, and Home Circuit
Who the hell sees gold mario in mk8 and thinks ohhh NSMB2?
Anyone who is aware of the gold flower power up Theirs a lot of power ups that get referenced in the more recent Mario Kart games through costumes hell even specifically the Mario Galaxy version of the ice flower was a costume for Mario in one of the arcade MK games
I’ve been playing mk8 for 5 years and I have the gold Mario amiibo and never thought about it once
metal mario, or as you called it “silver mario” originates from the metal cap in SM64
Silver Mario and Metal Mario are different things Silver Mario comes from MK Home Circuit The Gold Flower turns Luigi silver in NSMB2 and Silver and Gold costumes are available for both Mario and Luigi in MKHC so both would be referencing the Gold Flower
Every Super Mario Bros. Special item
Hudsonsoft bee is definitely most obscure power up. But I think the hammer isn't since it's in Donkey kong and Super Mario 3.
Fair point for the hammer
I will always remember the hudsonsoft bee. But only because of Mario Party 4
The wing from that one port of the original Mario bros that changes everything to underwater physics for a few seconds
Super Mario Bros Special, the Wing.
I'd say the bee is a bit more forgotten since it doesn't even do anything except give you points
The catchable boomerang from the Japanese e-reader levels of SMB3 on the Game Boy Advance?
I usually never remember the Rocket Nozzle from Sunshine.
Power Flower from SM64DS
I wish it was used more, but I haven't heard about the wearable shell from Mario Bros DS in a long time
Forreal the Blue Shell suit was so much fun in that game
NSMB
Yeah yeah, you knew what I meant
It needs to come back
Maybe they could add it to the WiiU theme if Mario Maker 3 comes out?
Pretty sure you can use a similar ability in super Mario 3D world
Yeah you could ride in koopa shells, but those were a lot more temporary and contained within those levels
Hey don’t you disrespect the Pfario mushroom
Drug mushrooms fron Yoshis island
lol yes i think they were clouds btw
They were white fuzzies that appeared as obstacles in levels
The hammer in smb3
What did the hammer even do?
If I'm thinking right it gives Mario the ability to throw hammers in an arc
That’s the hammer suit. The hammer let’s you break map screen road blocks.
Not unlike the hammer in The Adventure of Link.
I looked it up and the Hammer lets Mario break boulders in the map
As a map item, the music box and anchor were both far more obscure. Music boxes let you put enemy blockades to sleep. I dunno maybe the red star? I mean it's neat but not used much
Probably the Frog suit or cloud that lets you skip a level, barely anyone gives a crap about those.
Frog suit is so bad it’s memorable
Indeed. It's the only "rare" power up from SMB3 available in Mario Maker 2
All my homies used the cloud on 8-fortress.
Maybe none of us can figure it out because none of us can remember...
I always forget that the Ball Flower exists.
Oh, that's easy. The most forgettable item is the, uh, you know that one that's like... a thing. Darn, now I can't remember what I was going to say.
3 up moon. It’s like in 2 spots on two levels in one game ever.
Mystery Mushroom, only unlocked via Amiibo, Mario Maker for DS/Wii U
The boost star from NSMBU
Vanish cap from Mario 64.
Definitely the most obscure cap from that game but it's not even close to being the least memorable in all of mario
The anchor from Mario 3
Cloud Mushroom
P balloon
I forgot
Super Carrot
The 256 obscure super mario world items, only accessed by writing code on the game itself
The power flower from Super Mario 64 DS
Spring powerup from one of the Mario galaxy games
The Dreaded Spring Mushroom
Tbh I would say it's very unforgettable because it's so infamous for being shit.
Poison mushroom from lost levels
To be fair, it made a reappearance in SMM2
and super mario 3d land
The rock variant of the Tanooki Leaf from Super Mario 3D land!
Power Flower - Super Mario 64 DS
I played some cool levels in MM1 with the weird mushroom. Miss you!
...i forgor :(
This is not Jumpman is it?
Idk
I forgot
Cock mushroom
What about the hammer from mario special?
The mega mushroom in Mario 64 DS
Thunder Cloud from the Mario Kart Wii and Arade.
rock mushroom
Mini mushroom
Cloud Mushroom. Carrot power up too. Hammer Mario as well.
Do any of you remember the SMB2 coin?
The gun from Mario.
I miss this mushroom
I forgot
The Mega Mushroom?
Lucky Star from Super Mario Bros Special
heres an interesting one, the rainbow star from super mario galaxy. the reason why its forgettable is because its functionally identical to super stars from other games, which means you forget that its a completely different item.
The blue shell from NSMB? Well it's not exactly forgetable, more like most people don't know about it
Does the mario odyssey captures count as power ups?( couse if so it will be the bread)
The wearable shell :(
Pick me up
idk I forgot
Probably poison mushroom, invisible cap from sm64 is also kind of forgettable but I wouldn't put it at the top of a list
Health items from the rpgs
White Tanookie Suit.
Might be the red star from super mario galaxy, a weird powerup that I sometimes forget it exists.
Mario's Van Hellsing costume from the Nintendo Power comics
If I remember that forgetable character, then ir would stop being the most forgetable character since I remember it so this creates a paradox.
are you talking about power ups or items (i.e pow blocks, springs)? because if we’re counting items it’s definitely the stone block from the mm2 story mode
No doubt in top ten is the education game they made where Mario needs to be saved by Luigi and he travels across the world learning facts, whatever the title is.
Good ol’ “Lanky Mario”
Main Series: Invinsibility Leaf from Super Mario 3D Land (not to be confused with Invincibility Bell from Super Mario 3D World) Mario Kart: Double Dash's fireballs (Mario and Luigi's special item) (not to be confused with MK7's onward fire flower
Blue Shell from NSMB
I loved that power up
So fun plowing through the entire stage in the shell
The mystery mushrooms from smm1
Carrot, because its a carrot. I dunno, most Power Ups in the Mario franchise are so diverse, fun, and unique in their own ways that its genuinely hard to pick apart a specific one that is forgettable.
The giant mushroom from wii
Given that it makes an reappearance in 3DW and MPS, I wouldn't say it's obscure
The Carrot from Mario Land 2 The Rainbow Star from the Galaxy Games The Mega Mushroom from the New Soup series
Acorn?
Builder hammer from Mario maker 2
Frog suit
P acorn
Fludd. Literally only used in two games one being a fangame
He was your main tool in Sunshine tho and he is a part of Mario's moveset in Smash, so I wouldn't put Fludd as the least memorable.
Yeah, Considering Fludd is the basis of Mario Sunshine and Mario Sunshine is cherished and loved by fans, Fludd is for sure not the most forgettable power-up.
Nah, it is used in the entirety of sunshine, its not forgettable
The flower from Super Mario Land
It returned in Super Mario Maker 2, giving it more popularity though.
Frog
The Lucky Bell
Mini mushroom from the nsmb series?
Idk but what are the most memorable I’d have to say The shoe Penguin Mystery costume shroom
Mystery Mushroom in Mario Maker 1. Also the penguin suit, spring mushroom and Rock mushroom
boo mushroom, mario galaxy?
I find it memorable, despite it only being used three times across two games with about 240 levels in total.
thats fair enough
1up in Super Mario 64. Never get hurt, never need em.
Chair-mushroom for sure
Super Mario Land submarine anyone? https://images.app.goo.gl/g4eeYCDLHUqjtXE77
