If this stat is accurate, I am surprised mishra foundry is only in 20.5% of the deck. Its a good card, most decklist I have seen have like 2 copies of it at least and it works in any color.
3-color midrange is a hefty portion of the meta, and they can't afford to be running colorless lands. 2-color decks running Invoke (like Rakdos and Boros Reanimator) also don't want colorless lands.
Stats from all ranks could also include some budget decks, which may not include Foundry.
Yeah, I run Grixis and balked at adding it to my deck as there are still a lot of games where I stall or turn or two trying to get appropriate mana to cast something like Invoke Despair.
After seeing these stats though I'm thinking I should throw 1 in.
>
> After seeing these stats though I'm thinking I should throw 1 in.
I definitely wouldnt recommend putting in a colorless lands. BR on 2, UBR on 3 and 1BBBB on 5 are really demanding manacosts (along with 1RR for brotherhoods end if you sideboard it/run it against aggro in Bo1).
if the article I read is right, for a ~90% consistancy of casting on curve you need 22 black sources for invoke, 14 reds for bloodtithe (18 for BE) and 13 blues for corpse appraiser. grixis seems to run 22 black, 16 red and 13 blue.
if you dont care about brotherhoods end due to using other sweepers you could cut a red, except every single red source is a dual land and in so is also a black and/or blue source which you cannot cut without hurting yourself.
---
you could replace a spell, but the manland works best in multiples thanks to the combat trick it has built in, and is a single 2/2 manland better than one of your powerhouse midrange spells or strong removal/counter suite?
I don't think Plaza counts as a colorless land. If a deck plays Plaza, then it's not going to be colorless. If Plaza is a colorless land in a midrange deck, I don't think that deck is using Plaza correctly.
For Esper, where the color-intensive spells are all legends, it will play Plaza, since Plaza is a 3-colored land. For Grixis, where the color-intensive spells are Bloodtithe Harvester, Corpse Appraiser, and Invoke Despair, it wouldn't even think about running Plaza, because 3-colored midrange decks can't afford to be running colorless lands.
4 seems to choke me out way too often in mono color decks. It’s gotten in the way of multiple invoke despairs and countless lay down arms so I only run it full force in control decks with alternate mana sources and minimal creatures. 2 is a sweet spot in most other decks.
As others have said, no it doesn't work in any deck and/or colour. It's very much an aggro card and it's best in mono aggro lists. The reason it's so prevalent is because mono coloured aggro decks are the predominant decks by number on the Arena ladder.
big fan of the card in rakdos, though ive been liking what seems to be a current trend of mainboard trespassers and sideboard fleshgorgers.
trespasser helps bully graveyard nonsense pre-board and is all around decent game 1, but can be cleanly sideboarded out for the more directly powerful fleshgorger if graveyard hate doesnt matter or lifegain/evasion is desired. menace is surprisingly good, as is it blanking go for the throat.
dropping a 7cmc one lategame can also just straight end games where the ward: 7 life is too painful/impossible to pay, double fun if you have a flipped fable ready to instantly get a hasted copy.
Bo1 i'd 100% go all in on fleshgorger due to the aggro nonsense, but in Bo3 its 90% midrange currently for me
---
I love prototype, and hope we see more solid ones in the next set. most of the ones we got are kinda meh to compensate for being 2-in-1s, but the ones that are powerful in both versions are excellent.
Yeah, looks right. A flexible spot removal in a popular color, a creature land that can go in most 1 and 2 color decks, two aggro creatures that go in at least two very popular decks, and a very efficient creature that protects itself and has casting options.
Not an exaggeration.
After months of suspecting I was getting shafted on the draw I started manually keeping track to see if it was just bias on my part or not. I got to 3 on the play and 22 on the draw.
So I installed Untapped and I went 9 on the play and 22 on the draw.
I'm actually wondering if being on the draw is not actually 50/50 but is somehow adjusted in the matchmaking/mmr calculations.
I do know that if I go through a bout of early concedes (mmr loves matching me with similar decks in a row for some reason) I will almost always stay on the draw.
That's why I stopped to play Arena. Yes, the game and especially the shuffler are ABSOLUTELY NOT RIGGED (that's how many people on the reddit say), but then why does it feel that way?
I honestly think the token ability is a little over tuned, makes an aggro deck a little too resilient against sweepers so there’s little downside you playing out most of your hand. Could just be me though
Sweepers are feel bads and have been nerfed into the ground. They give opponents draw, or get stopped by shield counters, or telegraph a turn in advance....or cost 6 mana and not hit planewalkers. :/
Can we get [[devastating mastery]] back at least?
Devastating Mastery would also get stopped by a shield counter.
I thin Farewell is probably the best sweeper we've seen since Settle the Wreckage. Doomskar was also very efficient, but the ability to exile everything (bar planeswalkers) is incredibly effective.
It is but I still struggle against planeswalkers. I have to run [[fateful absence]] and [[karn's sylex]] to fight back and both have major downsides.
I play card advantage and PWs are just constance engines of value that really bite me in the ass. I basically quit playing for the month when [[ob-nixilis, the adversary]] was super popular.
Can we have Meathook Massacre back, please?
Ok, ok. It \*was\* kind of over top. However, aggro is currently even \*MORE\* over the top and the tools to fight it are not.
My brother in control, I will happily advocate for this in return for losing tenacious underdog, invoke despair, or graveyard trespasser :D signed, UW control
While I love control, I don't even try to play it anymore.
Isn't midrange supposed to beat aggro in the rock-paper-scissors contest? But aggro generates so much pure value right now, it's insane. I'm not anti-aggro. I'm pro-aggro, actually. But it feels like too much right now.
Yep. The top 10 decks will have literally zero control and this sub will be full of "blue bad! Sweepers ugh!!" 😑
It's a hell of a thing to spend 4 turns casting board wipes against creature decks where every turn they could plop out 7+ power and at the end of that they have 6 cards in hand.
That's a tiny bit of an exaggeration. But only a \*tiny\* bit.
All my lists are removal piles these days. If I'm not running at LEAST Grasp / Throats and maybe a Hero's thingymajig I'm doing it wrong.
It's ridiculous how many bad players there are who don't know how to play around sweepers. I'll have Karn's Sylex in play and watch my opponent empty their hand. And this is at MYTHIC!!
As for mono blue, it's a frustrating and unfun matchup, for sure. And sometimes they just draw the nuts and there's nothing you can do. I lost to one of them a while ago. He had one little weenie minion in play and we're both topdecking. He topdecked the EXACT answer to everything I played for like four or five turns in a row. And I was playing minions, spells, everything, not one thing. I'd draw something, he'd have just topdecked the exact effen answer.....
BUT it's actually quite beatable. I have a solidly positive win rate against that deck, so what am I doing differently than them lmao???
It would be nice to get some better sweepers, I’m surprised we didn’t get anything better this set themed off the explosion of the might/weak stones (unless we did and I can’t remember)
we did get [[Brotherhood's End]].
3CMC 3 damage sweeper is always solid, and the artifact sweeper wrecks the current grixis saheeli/rakdos anvil decks that pop up now and then, along with more niche utility in hitting bankbusters/blood tokens/treasures/etc
back in GRN I played grixis control and would have loved this, but the only 3 CMC/3 damage sweeper back then was the 1RW Deafening Clarion further cementing Jeskai as the king of control at the time along with the busted Teferi
I mean, yeah I know there are ways to play around it. That wasn’t really my point. One of the ways control could punish aggro for over playing their hand was with sweepers, this card kinda just ignores that. Paired with the 1 mana unearth soldier that pumps on attack and the 2 mana lord that can pump from the graveyard it seems like a bit too much staying power for an aggro deck
True, it's no [[Farewell]]. But the deck does have a lot of relevant one- and two-drops (like [[Valiant Veteran]], [[Guardian of New Benalia]], and [[Recruitment Officer]]), plus all the tokens. (Also good against a lot of mono-red and Rakdos builds I've seen recently.)
Best 2 mana black removal
Colorless manland akin to Faceless Heaven that was banned in the previous format
The only good 1 mana 2/1
Luminarch Aspirant+Anax in one card
Colorless big dumb Menace Lifelink Hexproof creature, except not a dead draw on turn 3
I understand, I was just commenting that the best 2 mana removal in MTG isn't go for the throat anymore (though when it was originally printed it totally was and held that throne for quite a while).
I don't understand the aggression, lol.
Well he wasn't that aggressive, but I have to agree with him that Go for the Throat is by far the more popular option right now. However it is definitely worth it to run at least 1 copy of Infernal Grasp with it in the less common cases you encounter artifact creatures, mainly Fleshgorger.
Infernal grasp might be marginally better in a vacuum but go for the throat is a universe better when half the decks that run it also run \[\[Abrade\]\].
I'm running the fleshgorger in my golgari re-animator deck at the moment. The Hexproof element of the card is amazing... watching opponents choose to take 7 damage rather than keep it in play, only for me to return it the next turn.
I would say about of the 20 or so games I played last night Siege veteran was in at least 3/4 of them. Standard is a mono-white soldier nightmare right now.
Bo3 is worth considering, aggro basically doesnt exist there.
though variety is still lacking, its 90% grixis/esper midrange, though midrange vs midrange is pretty fun in the current meta
Says a lot that the most popular card from a "Artifacts Matter" set is a kill spell that can't hit artifacts.
Seems like R&D is having a huge problem with this sort of thing. Samurai not mattering in the Samurai set, Werewolves not mattering in the Werewolf set, etc...
The link is just a link to your webpage and not any useful information - plus the title says "top 5 in standard" but the image says "top 5 bro cards in standard"
BO3 is name (% of decks included in main or side). I stopped at 50%.
Takenuma (59.4)
Cut Down (52.7)
Bankbuster (52.4)
Unlicensed Hearse (51.7)
Duress (51.3)
Sheoldred (50.6)
Bo1 is a pretty viable way to play standard. It’s rougher in non rotating formats that have more diverse strategies that need sideboarding but on standard those strategies are much rarer. So much bo1 shaming on this sub, but it’s the future of standard, time to get used to it imo
It's what most casual players play when they just wanna do their dailies.
Without it, Arena would probably be less popular.
Shaming BO1 is like saying "we want less players in the game"
If this stat is accurate, I am surprised mishra foundry is only in 20.5% of the deck. Its a good card, most decklist I have seen have like 2 copies of it at least and it works in any color.

Get that colorless land away from my 5-color jank.

Is that because of the New Capenna set or has it been that way for longer than that?
You can run the legend plaza one, which is colorless-ish in some of the midrange builds.
I don't think Plaza counts as a colorless land. If a deck plays Plaza, then it's not going to be colorless. If Plaza is a colorless land in a midrange deck, I don't think that deck is using Plaza correctly. Fair enough, just naming an edge case. Plaza is colorless often enough against removal etc, but it's also not colorless often too.
Colorless lands are *terrible* in so many decks.
4 seems to choke me out way too often in mono color decks. It’s gotten in the way of multiple invoke despairs and countless lay down arms so I only run it full force in control decks with alternate mana sources and minimal creatures. 2 is a sweet spot in most other decks.

top 5 **BRO** cards in standard
W-What are you doing, Siege-BRO?
First thing from the sett I crafted was 4x Fleshgorger goes good in so many decks
I got three fromm boosters, but haven't used them at all
big fan of the card in rakdos, though ive been liking what seems to be a current trend of mainboard trespassers and sideboard fleshgorgers. trespasser helps bully graveyard nonsense pre-board and is all around decent game 1, but can be cleanly sideboarded out for the more directly powerful fleshgorger if graveyard hate doesnt matter or lifegain/evasion is desired. menace is surprisingly good, as is it blanking go for the throat. dropping a 7cmc one lategame can also just straight end games where the ward: 7 life is too painful/impossible to pay, double fun if you have a flipped fable ready to instantly get a hasted copy. Same and great for anyone loving reanimator or cheating out big stuff decks. By far the best prototype creature of the set.
Yeah, looks right. A flexible spot removal in a popular color, a creature land that can go in most 1 and 2 color decks, two aggro creatures that go in at least two very popular decks, and a very efficient creature that protects itself and has casting options.
3 mana Luminarch Aspirant. Not even mad honestly, its a pretty good but balanced card.
aspirant that makes 1/1's and starts as 2/2 btw
Yeah but being on the draw, there's a lot more answers by the time turn 3 rolls around
Then just be on the play all the time, isn't it hard?
This guy mythics.
Not an exaggeration. After months of suspecting I was getting shafted on the draw I started manually keeping track to see if it was just bias on my part or not. Sure it is. But sorry, Hasbro, no money or time from me, only reddit trash talks
Aspirant+Anax tbh
It really gives the Anax vibe, I had some traumatic flashbacks when facing it.
At least they don't have Embercleave.

I'd argue [Infernal Grasp]] is the best 2 mana removal.
We have both in standard and people are playing Go for the Throat. 2 life matters.
Especially since arguably the best duals in standard are painlands, which really adds up for all the 3-color decks
I understand, I was just commenting that the best 2 mana removal in MTG isn't go for the throat anymore (though when it was originally printed it totally was and held that throne for quite a while). I don't understand the aggression, lol.

I think the best play would be Murder, actually. It's really the best removal honestly if you think about it. /s lol
It's all fun and games until you have to tap a pain land to cast an infernal grasp to kill a hasty red 2/2
Or a Fleshgorger (although of course in that case it's better you have it instead of a *Go for the Throat* :P).
It would be better in a meta where life matters less and there are more artifact creatures

Surprised FotMB is not there
Fable of the Mirror breaker isn't in BRO.
I would have thought it was the basic lands

The link is just a link to your webpage and not any useful information - plus the title says "top 5 in standard" but the image says "top 5 bro cards in standard"
Eh it’s BO1 so it doesn’t really matter much. Show us BO3!
Yeah it's just the most popular format, get it out of here
Most of the playerbase doesn't play Bo3, so it doesn't really matter much.
BO3 is name (% of decks included in main or side). I stopped at 50%. Takenuma (59.4) Cut Down (52.7) Bankbuster (52.4) Unlicensed Hearse (51.7) Duress (51.3) Sheoldred (50.6)
Shaming BO1 is like saying "we want less players in the game"
they really do want fewer players in "their" game. gatekeeping is a pretty common thing in all hobbies.
I agree, untapped locks all best of 3 data and any data from relevent ranks (plat+) behind paywalls though.
Ok grandpa
This is just like, how often they are used right? This says nothing about the actual value of adding these into a deck?
I figured mishra's foundry would be found in more decks. but overall, these cards are not a surprise.
