Lockwerk

I don't think Ulamog fits your plan at all. You're a flicker deck that stops at five mana and you've included a card that doesn't do anything with flickering and cost twice as much as anything else.

Hsinats

Okay [[omen of the sea]], I think it's uncommon so it shouldn't be too hard to get 4. This is gonna be good in the control matchups because you are going to be going through your deck faster. Blinking 2 or those with yorion just draws two cards.

Your deck is very heavy on 3 drops I would try to add some more 2 drops, some 2 mana removal in white like \[\[Declaration in Stone\]\] , \[\[Fateful Absence\]\] or \[\[Baffling End\]\] could be good as well(3 mana removal often is too slow against decks like Goblins or Elves especially as you don't run any board wipes as you are focused on the blink plan) as like someone else said 4 omens of the sea would be strong. If you want another finisher for the deck \[\[Dream Trawler\]\] would be good and if you have the wild cards some amount of \[\[Emeria's Call\]\] would be good also to help give you another finisher which can also be used as a land if needed.

try and give more information maybe - like, what rank are you, gamemode, what decks are you losing to? all this could help others help you (;

smitla23

Sorry, should have clarified. I’m bronze rank in historic, but I don’t play ranked often, I just queue in “play”. I lose quite often to control decks or token decks

UltraMechaLordViper

Along with what other people have said, try to work on fixing your mana base. Shocks, checks, pathways, at least 2 scry lands, fabled passage, castles of both colors, the white MDFC (which I'm blanking on the name of), and field of ruin would all be worthwhile

smitla23

That’ll be my final goal, but I only started recently so wildcards are difficult to come by

UltraMechaLordViper

For sure, completely understandable but if that's the case this might be a tricky deck to jump on into. Seems you need a lot of wildcards to get it going. Obviously you do you but newer players undervalue lands heavily. Once you have a good mana base it makes future deck building so much nicer

-defg

Hey! I've been playing my own Yorion-Soulherder deck for awhile and I think I have a pretty good feel for the archetype. I will say that in the long run if you want to be competitive with this strategy I would strongly recommend adding green for \[\[Collected Company\]\] and some green value creatures. That's what I'm currently running and I feel like I have game against most of the top decks. But if you're not wanting to add green there's still a good amount of changes you can make. First I'd remove Banishing Light, Expel, Wall of Runes, and Ulamog. Flicker of Fate should be changed to \[\[Ephemerate\]\], and Master Slicer should become \[\[Blade Splicer\]\]. Also you should run 4 copies of Skyclave Apparition and Charming Price since they are both powerhouses in this type of deck. Since you're struggling against control I'd strongly recommend \[\[Elite Spellbinder\]\]. That is one of your best cards in the control matchup since it can delay their sweeper for several turns while providing you information about what to play around and applying a decent amount of pressure. You could also throw in some copies of \[\[Militia Bugler\]\] as a strong value create that's also only an uncommon. I'd also throw in 2 copies of \[\[Restoration Angel\]\]. I will say that control will always be a tough matchup for this strategy as you are a creature based value deck and control can keep you from getting your Soulherders online to generate value. If you ever decide to play Best of 3, you can put in some good sideboard cards against control and really increase your win percentage games 2 and 3. I'd recommend \[\[Dovin's Veto\]\].

Thank you, much appreciated

Ragewind82

Your manabase is rather plain. If you plan to commit wild cards to Azorius, getting shocks and other format staples would smooth things out.

Lots-of-Time89

First off are you aiming to play historic or standard?(This will determine the range of the sets you can take cards to build your deck.) Second what is the idea behind your deck?(Doing this will provide the needed focus for how the deck will be used.) Third can you sum the aim of your idea with just three words?(This will provide the keywords to filter out both the mana colors and abilities/effects you don't want in your deck.)

circlewind

I think you deck is too "spread", not focusing on a central plan. For example, you have 2 copies of Cloudkin Seer, 2 copies of Omen of the sun, 2 copies of solemn simulacrum, and 2 copies of desciple of the sun (btw this is not a very good card). These 3 cards are mostly for different types of decks, and you will be better to get 4x of one of them, to be more consistent. And you have one copy of Ulamog, where I don't think you can cast in 99% of your game. The first thing I would do is to define a win condition, and pick cards according to your plan. For example, if you want to beat down with creatures, cloudkin seer is a good choice, but omen of the sun is a bad one. Because the 2 1/1 from the omen is not gonna attack or defend you efficiently, unless there are other synergies. If you want to grind enemy out with value, Mulldrifter is a good one, but you also need some other cards that can trade 1-for-1 efficiently with your opponents card. Otherwise, while you are drawing more cards, they don't solve the issue for you and you will just lose with all the cards in your hand. Then, here comes synergy. You have clearly a flicker deck. Most of the flicker cards flickering creatures, but then your main removal is banishing light, which cannot be flickered by half of the flickering cards you have. Also banishing light itself is not an effective flicker target. On the other hand, Skyclave Apparition is a very good flickering target. It doesn't give back the original card (only a token), and if you can flicker it with the etb trigger on the stack, you can actually rid the first card for good. In this specific case, I would recommend going for something like 4x Skyclave Apparition and 2x Banishing light, as your removal package. Finally, historic is at very high power level right now. Cards like Master Splicer, is very underpowered in a format like this. It difficult to explain how to evaluate cards, but try to get a feel when you play the card. If everytime you play a specific card, and it doesn't provide much impact in any of the times, then it's probably time to replace it.

DasFeierabend

One thing which comes to my mind is your mana curve. I always play more two drops than three drops. I only play magic since afr so maybe someone can back this up or proof me wrong?

Sparkheim

Definitely agree, lowering the curve is important. In historic elves, trickery and goblins can all win turn 3, and you need to be able to do something to stop them. Or even be using you mana to get the control/planewalker opponents to do something.

Sparkheim

Best advice to win I think is to try to get to 4-ofs. Especially in a yorian deck where it’s even more diluted. Some cards at the top (ulamog) and bottom (wall and familiar) are really suspect. If you are blinking you need to maximise on it, ie more princes, yorians in the main deck, expel out for more apparitions, add portable hole, and blessing of meletis perhaps.

smitla23

Thank you, I haven’t played long so I have no wildcards but I’ll try to get 4-ofs

Sparkheim

Without wildcards/resources a Yorion deck is tricky, you need 20 more cards!! Could try the same strategy but but Don’t companion it. Then you are down to 60 cards. And it should help you identify which are performing better/worse.

NoDinner1269

Add [[omen of the sea]] And more removal, you wil get run over by faster decks [[portable hole]] And [[baffling end]] for example And maybe an [[exclusion mage]] to stay alive to the late game. Ger rid of the wall of runes disciple of the sun and expel those are bad cards

for starters, cut wall of runes and please add more 2 drops

Lots-of-Time89

I noticed that for a white/blue mana deck you aren't running any bouncers or true counters. I would suggest that you consider using some of the new one drop bouncers from the current standard set. Heck one of the one drop blues send your opponent's creature back to their hand while allowing you to scry your deck when you play it right. There are a number of white mana one too three drop cards that also have the exile effect for cheep that could devastate your enemy's strategy with the right timing.
