Card rental concerns for Modern play

Card rental concerns for Modern play

Huzzar1

You mentioned only a few cards that are impossible to rent. The truth is any in demand cards are out of stock. All the players i know are quitting their rental service and i imagine a lot of other players will do the same. For the past weeks anytime manatraders is mentioned it's about how cards are not available. They will loose a lot of customers. Cardhoarders on the other hand is probably swamped with applications. I have two weeks left on my mana rental service and already switched over to cardhoarders because i can't rent any deck. It's insane. I can't get my money back and i can't rent decks. And don't believe sponsored streamers when you see them get the cards they want instantly on stream. They have a different priority on getting cards. All they do is falsely advertise manatraders, when in reality a normal customer is unable to rent the cards. tldr: don't subscribe to manatraders

I've seen tweets about this, won't go looking. Not excusing Manatraders, just saying

you_made_me_drink

I use Cardhoarder and haven’t ever had this problem.

King-Louie19

I have heard supply wise they are great but swapping decks is more longwinded than manatraders?

you_made_me_drink

I never have to wait more than 5 mins for their delivery bots and you can import decklists when renting. Easy peasy.

carasson

it's slightly more inconvenient but not too bad. * the delivery bots are slower to trade you (the return-bots are actually faster than manatraders tho) * they make you type "yes" in game to receive a trade request that's about it though

I have been subscribed to ManaTraders now for 10 months, never had this problem until now and it’s becoming increasingly frustrating. they have no problem taking my $50 every month but have a serious problem with providing availability to its non-affiliate customers. I couldn’t even rent a single SPIREBLUFF CANAL last night.

phillyphilandkalipie

I don’t even play MTGO anymore and I’d advise against using their service from experience 3/4 years agos. Their service sucks, is overpriced, and the owner is very anti-customer.

King-Louie19

FYI manatraders we couldn't care less about your tournaments if the cost of these means you can't deliver the basic service we pay for.

Phyrexian-Drip

If you have the money just drop $500 on a deck. Cards are liquid enough on mtgo that when you get bored of a deck you can just trade it for tix and get a new one. I trade to card hoarder and buy from goat boys typically. On average cardhorder gives more tix but goatbots are cheaper.

Glossen

This is a common problem with ManaTraders around set releases; most other rental services don’t see it as much.

worstbandnameever

Aside from cardhoarder, what are the other rental services?

Glossen

I’d thought MTGOtraders offered rental as well, but I just checked and it appears they do not. Perhaps it’s just those 2.

worstbandnameever

I figured they did some version also! Really seems like a small service just got smaller and more consolidated now that cardhoarder is not accepting new people.

King-Louie19

I posted regarding this a few weeks ago now. Their service has been unacceptable. When I finally managed to get ragavans they sent me an email 2 days later asking to return, Definatley won't be renewing next time round. They want the best of both worlds. Rake it in during the cheap times and sit on their hands during the boom, again unacceptable but long term it will be their loss.

worstbandnameever

I’ve been able to get all these cards within a few minutes lately, but the tix price is higher than they would cost to buy. 120 tix rental value for Ragavan vs. 90 on MTGO traders to buy. Not sure how tix values work really but to play modern jund, the decks run like 1050-1200 tix value on there now. I still own some fetchlands so they helps decrease the cost to be within my limit. I hope they can make rental more reliable as I really like the service otherwise.

I thought modern was alwaus big?

I couldn't rent Inquisition of Kozilek the other day. That has been around for years and has multiple printings but I couldn't rent any. I have also tried pretty much every day since it was released to rent Urza's Saga and not been able to rent it once.

Entmaan

Idk, it is pretty annoying, but if you try to rent the cards a few times in the span of an hour (like every 10 or so minutes) you will get them, and then you can just hold them to play. Definitely they suffered a drop in quality last month, but I didn't have any massive issues just yet
