Is there anywhere I can watch highlights of this? ESPN is such trash
FC Cincinnati posted a highlight video on their Twitter account about an hour ago.
Sounds like I picked a bad day to go see a play.
\- Abraham Lincoln
a good game.
Got down to the Brenner offsides in the 89th minute in the comments and there were still 616 below that 🤣🤣
I was at the match. One of the goals not called was offside (don’t really think it was but I didn’t get a good angel) the other should have been challenged because it was a goal. Also so many calls were missed…including the one that NYCFC “tossed” the ball to their player who was out of bounds and dropped in to kick. Legit one of the worst ref matches I’ve ever seen at the stadium.
I have no voice and my soul has left my body. I love this team
Insane match to attend as a neutral. Disappointed there were only two legal goals in the 2nd half haha.
Union fan here, so even though I hate NYCFC, I believe I am neutral enough, maybe… That was one of the most obvious cases I’ve seen of match fixing in a while, I was at the game, and it was BAD. Saw this petition, feel free to sign, mostly jokes I think but still. https://chng.it/GS5GGgnBmh
>even though I hate NYCFC, I believe I am neutral enough
Lmao, never change Philly fans...
"Match fixing," really?
Yeah, it seemed different from the usual bad reffing we see, and looked a lot like past match fixing I’ve seen
I'll grant you that there was some wonkiness with the calls on the endlines, but "match fixing" seems like a gross overreaction. Never ascribe to malice what can be explained by incompetence. Did we get the better end of some iffy calls tonight? Yeah, sure. Have we been on the other side of those in the past? Absolutely. Look up Toronto's goalkeeper (Bono) punting the ball into the back of Medina's head last season, for instance. It went into the goal, and got disallowed, despite being 100% valid (as confirmed by PRO after the match, too late to benefit from it).
I'm not saying the reffing was good, but that's a far cry from it being fixed.
I’m not saying you guys have in the past. I’m just saying he’s been accused of it before, and it looks like other match fixing I’ve seen in the past
How so? This isn't a gotcha, I'm legitimately asking -- what specific things put this into "match fixing" territory for you, compared to garden-variety bad calls?
I totally get it. It was a combination of things.
1. An unusual amount of bad calls for a mls ref, and it was much more in favor in nyc.
2. It was reminiscent of past match fixing, in that he gave calls in favor of nycfc even more during important times in the match. And the common calls all went in favor of them.
3. This referee has been accused of match fixing before.
4. I’m not saying this about the fans, but the leadership and owners of nycfc are exactly reputable.
Except soccer is a game actively reviewed for match fixing, even at the lowest of levels.
In addition to statistical review - to separate claims of pattern from randomness - book-making gets flagged even unusual betting takes place.
In addition, if VAR is good for anything, it's that independently advises for review on the game's more critical and obvious opportunities for fixing. A lot more people nowadays would have to be on the take or neglect their duties to facilitate an obvious fix.
It's a lot more plausible to suggest gross incompetence or subconscious bias than a grand conspiracy of match fixing. But I know this sub loves to work up a lather when reason is introduced, so...
Excuse me MLS we just hit summer solstice so it’s not actually After Dark at this hour. Can’t be pulling these types of shenanigans during daylight hours!!
Well it’s what you get for putting the most horrid defenses up against eachother
There were defenses out there?
I think they were on the bench or something. IDK, I was busy watching my team fuck up a winnable game.
But on the other hand, two good offenses!
"Let's check the match thread. There are pretty much never more than a hundred comments, maybe two hundred. Might be fun." - me, like 30 seconds ago
One of those games that you hate when its your team but love as a neutral. I am exhausted.
Pathetic ref show aside, one of the most absurd matches I've ever seen. 10/10 would watch again.
One of the best games I’ve ever watched. I wish it wasn’t my team
Truest statement I’ve heard in this entire thread tbh gg (other than comments about our defense being shit)
What a game!
On to the Nashville Orlando Penalty Shootout. MLS drama continues
Thanks for the heads up!
Should have been 6-2
Ah, Geoff Cameron, the voice of reason.
Cincy coach was about to throw some hands at the Refs
AR apparently told pat a good team wouldn't have blown a 3 0 lead
Noonan is pissed. Rightfully so.
I was at the game so replays were hard to see. What were the egregious calls he is mad about?
> Pat Noonan said he was not pleased with the response of the assistant referee after a bit of a heated conversation with the officiating crew following the game. Said it was disrespectful.
> Haris Medunjanin elaborated on this as he also approached the officials after that to ask about the offside on Brenner. According to him, one of them said a good team would have put the game away up 3-0, but “you gave it away.”
Was also at the game but if I had to guess…
-The call that the ball was out when we scored seconds later
-The 2 corner kicks that were called goal kicks
-The handling of the obvious time wasting by NYCFC down the stretch
The VAR review was the right call…we had a couple guys offside on the cross in and I believe Brenner was ahead of the ball on the initial shot. So we were offside twice.
The time wasting makes me so angry. Nothing is ever done about it. If a player goes down and the ref has to stop play, the stretcher has to go out immediately and the player should HAVE to leave the field. These pathetic mf’s fake injuries to control the tempo of the match and to diminish opposing momentum. It’s weak, it’s cowardly, and it is the worst thing about this sport.
First NYC goal off the corner kick should have been a goal kick. It was out of an NYC player. Second NYC goal the guy was a yard offside. And then the disallowed FCC goal in the first half where the ball was still in. Should have been 5-2 Cincy.
The goal/corner decisions were very strange. There were at least 3 that just didn’t make any sense
You were at the game but didn’t watch the game?
they only show the replays once in the stadium on the big screen.
Yeah, I was also at the game. That someone allegedly attended this match and is unaware of which egregious calls someone may be mad about is a near impossibility.
Gg Cincinnati I hated every second of this
I remember the 5-2 game where you guys scored all 7 goals. That's the game I hate. I'll take a point vs you guys any day.
Time to take my blood pressure medicine. GG! Best game I've watched this year.
Damn good game. Ups and down both ways
All that for a draw
I love it
Noonan is going off on Refs and I don’t blame him
What did I miss? Obviously a lot because I was watching Crew but what specifically is he mad about?
Apparently after the game he tried to talk to the assistant ref about some of the close calls and the ref said something about Cincy blowing the game anyway. May not be wrong but a ref really shouldn’t be commentating on the game in that moment. Either just don’t say anything or explain what you saw and why you made the call you did.
Got a source on this? Pretty wild if true
it was a very poorly called game from the line judge on the west side of the stadium, he missed a few bad corner vs goal kick decisions
Also they never announced the stoppage for the second half so I guess the refs just picked a time randomly to end the game
They flashed 4’ at the stadium which was … a bit low in my opinion. Then at the end NYCFC had a guy in the ground wasting time. Ref pointed at his watch like “I got this” and blew the whistle right after the restart.
Yeah, noticed that as well. I started my watch at 90' and the stoppage time ended up being 5'40", which seemed pretty short given all of the shenanigans.
The amount of iffy to bad calls on the endlines was a little staggering, both leading to and preventing goals. I would say he managed time-wasting at the end a little poorly, but not awfully so. One of those games where close and bad calls seemed to go one way a lot.
Lots of stupid blown calls that lead directly to multiple goals.
Screaming at the refs had to be pulled off by a player, security had to escort the refs to the looker room
Security escorts refs off the field for every MLS match...
Security always escorts the refs off the field at FCC stadium. Nothing out of ordinary.
They wouldn’t know what it’s like in a soccer field. They don’t even have a field
You meant the refs, right?
Boring half theory disproven. Both halves were INSANE
After the past two games, I would like my team to go back to blowing out teams. It's good for my heart that way
Could you give it a few days tho?
Fucking terrible from NYCFC. Good grit to get it back. But we should have never been in that position. Cushing needs to figure out the defensive side and quickly.
Well, that was entertaining. Congrats on your first point against us, FCC.
Both teams can take something from it. We came back from three down. FCC came back to get the point.
Game threads are the parents sitting on the youth match sidelines who don't understand the laws of the game at all, but they're angry
Well and apparently Pat Noonan
If you think Pat Noonan was angry about the last offside call, you clearly didn't watch the whole game.
Yeah he was blasting the refs for his defense's poor performance, obvs
I'm sure that didn't help. I dunno if I've seen so many blown calls on balls into touch though.
What an ending
That was fun. Right side (of camera) linesman was on crack. Turned into a full CONCACAF affair by the end with everything but cynical fouls and punches
My seats are right above that corner. Crazy calls indeed.
It was nearly getting to the point that I was just assuming Johnson could roll the ball over the touch line uncontested and still get a goal kick awarded.
I'm glad to see that neutral observers noticed the shitty reffing and it's not just me being a homer.
No one can say FCC lack heart.
what an absolute shithouse of a game
I'm done with MLS for tonight, this ish gonna kill me. GG Cincy
Let's never do this again
Gg to NYC fans and players. We can all agree the refs were shit, but both teams kept it pretty respectful. Questionable calls aren't the players' faults, and NYC didn't lose heart after being down. I think it could have been an amazing match if it weren't so tainted for me. My heart can't handle it haha.
i watched that game against philly over the weekend. Is it always this bananas with you guys?
Not always but craziness has a nasty habit of following us
NYC has 3 MVPs tonight, and they're all wearing orange.
Fuck outta hear, you guys had some many chances and on top of that y’all blew 3-0 lead
You got a LOT of goal kicks you shouldn't have, I'll say that.
Blame the refs that ain’t got shit to do wit us. Literally refs suck in MLS we got screwed against Philly on Sunday but that’s just MLS I guess 🤷🏿♂️
Y’all blew an impressive comeback to Brenner of all players lmao
Brenner put in work tonight so I don’t know what you’re talkin bout, he’s actually solid and it appears he got out of his slump.
LolI think he's got talent, just waiting on team chemistry which is coming slowly but surely. Two good offenses against two shit defenses haha.
Yeah we both need help on d lol
Yea I get that he had a great game tonight but before today no one would be saying that hahaha
Regardless Seems like Cincy is for real, & y’all got LAFC tonight can’t wait to see that either y’all get slaughtered or it’s a draw lol
If we play Jose Martinez we’re getting slaughtered, if we don’t we’re hopefully getting a draw lol
GG FC Cincinnati
GG NYCFC. Tough game.
What a game. I'll take it.
Same to you my friend
Y’all keep up the good work, I wanna see y’all in the playoffs
And hopefully it will be just as entertaining
Please no. I'll die. But gg
h9oly shit man
holy shit nyc is so lucky
HAAK did a great job tonight
What a game for the neutrals. Cincy going for it
This game took too many years off my life to end in a draw.
Very suspect officiating :/
I'll take a game like this against such a good team though. No wooden spoon for the knifey lions this year
3 goal impact isnt enough. The refs continue to make obvious mis-calls in NYCFCs favor to deny us corners
These commentators seem really confused about what the offside rule entails, lol. A headed shot is the beginning of a new play, Brenner was offside when the shot happened. Simple offside call.
Our play by play guy is...often suspect when it comes to knowing the laws.
Or player names. Of most anything honestly.
But Tommy G. has spirit, dammit.
FCC's main commentator is literally the worst of any sport I've ever seen
I'll never forget that, "and it's penalty kick!" for a foul that happened around midfield.
I love that people other than myself remember this atrocious call
In one of our earliest games he was talking about Mitch Hildebrandt being a great keeper last year (he hasn't played since we were a USL team), and that the random Open Cup game was "the high point in every one of these players' careers".
I could legitimately offer more insight, and I consistently have horrible takes in everything haha.
right how's that even controversial?
I’m watching on YES in NY and these guys called it correctly
Even MLS isn’t cheap enough to use Teams
Do these announcers know how offsides work?
Cincinnati fans act like that wasn’t offsides lol.
I was at the game and called it immediately. Everyone was going bonkers and had to be the wet towel and was unfortunately correct.
It was, it was fun for a half second tho.
regardless of the offsides, the goalkeeping on that not-goal was absolutely atrocious.
Can’t believe the refs personally scored 3 straight goals for NYCFC. Shocking stuff.
I was shocked when the ref picked up the ball and threw it into the back of the FCC net for the second.
As a crew fan, I cannot explain to you how much I am enjoying this comments section rn 😂
Who knew the man in neon orange could pull it off!
that's controversial? do they have eyes?
Refs around NYCFC games need an investigation
this shit is nauseating
There's always a game or two where you feel like the refs job you. Every fan of the league will agree with this.
Also that's saying something on PRO
I mean we've also had games where the refs made awful calls against us
Unfortunately a rite of passage with PRO
He was offsides. Pretty obvious.
I think FCC fans are upset about no review on the end line that got called out and then NYCFC getting a corner kick on what should have goal kick. FCC robbed of a goal and then NYCFC given two questionable goals/plays
this. it hasn't just been one play. it's been a series of heavy handed and incredibly harsh calls against us since the starting whistle.
Yeah. One iffy call is whatever but the refs made some pretty heavy handed calls that helped NYCFC
I didn’t see earlier calls/non-calls but Brenner was clearly off when the header was taken.
Yeah I can't contest that. The inconsistent VAR enforcement is what angers me though. How can you have 4-5 questionable calls that resulted in goals and only review the one that occurred in stoppage. Part of me thinks it was spite after Brenner walked by with his jersey off and gave the ref a thumbs up to his face immediately before he decided to go to VAR for the first time all game haha.
Blatantly off lol. Like learn the fucking rules before making dumb ass comments.
Please excuse this ass. He does NOT represent the usual Cincinnati fan.
You're just making yourself look silly.
Bro imagine calling someone willing to go to yankee stadium for a fucking soccer game a plastic.
Counterpoint you could build us a stadium with all the wood your team has earned. Log by log.
At least we have a star, you literally never will.
Idk man. It felt pretty damn good.
Yes. It does lol.
Imagine thinking a team is bought in a salary capped league - the mental gymnastics are amazing.
Why the hell do they look at this one but not theirs? Such bull shit.
pretty obvious offside, basically on the endline when the shot is taken. props to the ref for not taking an age to make the call.
Ahhhhh this is the best game ever
Edit: still tho
This is like crack to crew fans
Refs with a 3 goal impact in NYCFCs favor
ugh such a shame, they deserve the goal
Only 4 minute? That’s some concacaf shit
and there we go, nice obvious offsides
Well I can see the offside on the replay but ya know, bring on the fifth another way
Has to be offsides. Easy call
Why did they even need to have him look? Wasn’t even close
We’d be lucky to escape with a point lol
One more goal and I think we win
I don’t know what to fucking feel anymore
They'll take a look at this but not the Brenner back heal 😞
Par for the course for this game though.
Looks like a clear offsides though
Yup. Absolute bullshit
Never mind. Lmao.
