Couldn’t watch…. Did we have any obnoxious CL chants similar to Chelsea’s “We know what we are! We know what we are! Champions of Europe! We know what we are!”
For sure. And as with most of his misses, it’s him going one way in the moment, and it’s really 50/50 whether he should have gone the other way. Chip left or chip right, I can’t blame him. He was plenty fast today too.
I know shots from outside the box have a very low % of scoring, but I think sometimes taking a rip is fine, and I've thought this for a long time. Sounders are very focused on making that deadly final pass into the box/cutback pass. Sometimes you just gotta rip one, keep the defenders honest. I feel like JP is the only one willing to try sometimes. Glad Roldan got his foot into one today.
Minnesota just isn't good enough this year and I don't know if they will make the playoffs. Way too inconsistent. I also shouldn't watch three PL games before any MLS games as it frustrates the hell out of me seeing how far MLS still needs to catch up with the top five European leagues.
The top European teams literally have rosters with half a billion dollars in transfer fees alone. Of course the soccer is going to be better lol. MLS is more fun to watch though. The PL this season has been an absolute snooze fest
It's the technical and tactical ability of the players where I see lacking in this league. No way should the ball ever be popping up after receiving a pass but in MLS it happens every game and a lot. I'm sorry the last Seattle goal would never happen in a top five league. You don't get to look up plant your foot and shoot within five seconds and IMO that defensive break down bugs me. I enjoy MLS but the rosters still need to improve 4 to 11 and 12 plus.
>You don't get to look up plant your foot and shoot within five seconds
Except that it definitely does happen in top leagues, especially when one team is pushing hard for an equalizer and leaving space in behind.
You say it would never happen in a top 5 European league yet goals like that do actually happen just about every weekend in those said leagues lol. My point was when you dump the amount of money the top European teams do into a roster then you're obviously going to get similar talent to match it. So if you're watching MLS expecting rosters worth 1/5th that to be just as good technically then you need to pass me whatever you're smoking lol.
Am I the only one who feels like Adrian Heath is a real prick? If you look like those weird partially haired small dogs when it rains, you should probably be a little more humble.
Haven’t liked him since that shouting match with Cissoko last year, but him and Schmetzer apparently get along: https://www.startribune.com/seattles-success-a-blueprint-for-mls-and-minnesota-united/600173359/
David Ochoa, RSL.
Kicked the ball into the Wonderwall, got fined, started doing it at home games out of spite.
Born in California, came up through the US system, declared for Mexico.
In the playoff against the Sounders last year, wasted time like crazy all match (got a yellow early, so basically the ref wasn't going to punish it) while his club refused to even take a shot and taunted the crowd when he managed to make a single penalty save.
He liked to play the heel, which would be fine if he didn't have the 5th-worst goals against in MLS last year (and his GA-xGA numbers weren't good either).
Honestly, I thought we'd have a new manager this season. Heath has become way too predictable.
We have so much talent in the front line, but they never go for the finishing blows. And I don't think that's a player issue.
I don’t bet on anything ever, but I sure wouldn’t bet against my favorite team. I can’t even admit I think they’ll lose before hand. During the game, all day.
He was duplicating his defender's efforts. The defender has most of the far post blocked; the keeper can pinch in more towards the near post where Lodeiro has an actual shooting angle. And if he does that... still not a *routine* stop, but it would take less of a highlight reel play to get a hand on it. But he's still positioned squarely in the center of the goal, trying to cover both posts equally, which means he's leaving space he can't reach in time at the near post.
He is where he is because he had just crossed from the other side of the goal, and he needs to get his feet set. His positioning wasn't optimal, but if he's still moving and Lodeiro one-touches it, he's fucked no matter what.
I have now seen LAFC and Seattle on the road within a few weeks. LAFC right now are the best team in MLS if they keep this up there is no way anybody will beat them this year.
not in a good way. although i think the weather is the main reason
idk if it's just my jadedness with irl rn seeping into everything i do, but as much as i love this league, the vibes are just...off. feels like there's a lot more dead stadiums and not as many good games
It's not that when the league has been around over 25 years and the Sounders as a club have been around for over a half century across various leagues.
He's also cleaned up a lot of other people's slop that could've led to goals and shut down multiple counters. Overall good day with one major slip up and another one that wasn't that bad
It's not NOT on Heath though. Our attack has been toothless all season. The pass out to the wing is right out of his playbook, this behavior is coached. His offensive mind is lacking and always has been.
We fucked it. As usual, we fucked it. Against Seattle, we fucked it. In the second half, we fucked it. #THIS IS WHY MINNESOTA CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS
Couldn’t watch…. Did we have any obnoxious CL chants similar to Chelsea’s “We know what we are! We know what we are! Champions of Europe! We know what we are!”
No we did not!
the annual Seattle/Portland resurrection seems to have begun. (hopefully)
Really wish Jordan had scored. He’s on the edge of being back on full form but I don’t think he’s there yet.
He just needs that tiny bit of blessing from the gods. The chip that went off the post was so unlucky
He had a few shots on goal today. Just bad luck that St. Clair had a great game today.
For sure. And as with most of his misses, it’s him going one way in the moment, and it’s really 50/50 whether he should have gone the other way. Chip left or chip right, I can’t blame him. He was plenty fast today too.
Gg loons had me scared in the first half
I know shots from outside the box have a very low % of scoring, but I think sometimes taking a rip is fine, and I've thought this for a long time. Ozzie-style 🤷♂️
Hell yeah. When I saw him running up to a deflection from a corner or something I could feel my toes about to curl if he hit it pure.
CR7 for MOTM
Where have I heard that before? I think it might have been r/soundersfc?
Hey, short and gets the point across perfectly!
Minnesota just isn't good enough this year and I don't know if they will make the playoffs. Way too inconsistent. I also shouldn't watch three PL games before any MLS games as it frustrates the hell out of me seeing how far MLS still needs to catch up with the top five European leagues.

I find the relegation battles the only entertaining part personally

Thanks for observing, Sir Isaac Newton.
>You don't get to look up plant your foot and shoot within five seconds Except that it definitely does happen in top leagues, especially when one team is pushing hard for an equalizer and leaving space in behind.

I feel like MLS matches usually are more fun to watch but then again I support Newcastle and they're a terrible watch.
I support the spurs, so I'll be cheering with you today lol
MLS is definitely improving but yeah, the gulf between us and the top leagues is insane.
There’s no need to be that frustrated my guy🫤
Am I the only one who feels like Adrian Heath is a real prick? If you look like those weird partially haired small dogs when it rains, you should probably be a little more humble.

I remember one interview he had where he made fun of a young goalkeeper on the team they were playing in his post match.
You mean the young gk who's an absolute shit head that kicked a ball into our supporters after the final whistle? That time?
Tbf I don’t remember what the kid did but he called him names which seemed not very professional of him

He said "he's got some edge to him for a kid who's not that good", not really name calling.
Soooo tired of Schmetzer owning Heath. HeathOUT
Honestly, I thought we'd have a new manager this season. Heath has become way too predictable. We have so much talent in the front line, but they never go for the finishing blows. And I don't think that's a player issue.
Schmetz owns concacaf so... not just Heath :)
MLS season has officially started. Boom!
I never had any doubt we would get you back on your feet.
We can always count on Minnesota for that
You guys definitely had a bad draw getting this game
The play by play guy almost sounded like Jackson Felts
GG Loons
Both my inner Sounders fan (and outer woth my jersey) and my Fantasy team are appreciative of that goal Loderio!
It's gotta get real old for Minnesota fans watching their team play against Seattle and fall apart in the second half every. single. time.
It’s not just Seattle. Last week at Cincinnati, it happened too.
Hey now, they've fallen apart in the first half before, too.
Naw... Minnesota fans are numb from victories getting snatched from them. They almost expect it.
You just insulted my entire ~~race~~ state of people... but yes.
I have friends that are Vikings fans so it's ok
My quick tally puts this at 8 goals they've allowed in the 86' or later against us... in 13 games. 6 of those in actual stoppage time.
Yeah...and it's not just soccer, Vikings fans are hardened...and I'm sure they've passed on to their offspring.
Not hardened. Just numb to the point where we don't even need alcohol to dull the pain.
You don’t say
To be fair, they looked like garbage the first half too
Pissed another one away. Awesome. My favorite team gets less and less watchable by the day.
Still the best shirt and logo combo in MLS
I'm ticked they don't wear the wing kit anymore though. Frickin' loved that one.
No. Our hendrix kit is the best. However I do agree that the loons is a top kit
Doesn’t do a lot for me.
It *insists* upon itself, Lois.
Gg loons
And thus begins the march to the top of the table!
*or at least somewhere in the playoffs, preferably with a home game Just covering bases here
As long as we're marching in that general direction!
every power ranking: "here's why seattle should be last..."
Every other power ranking: hers why Seattle should be first.
I mean to be fair…we haven’t had the greatest of starts in the regular season. But who cares CONCACAF CHAMPIONS BABY!
MLS is back on the menu boys!
Ooh they look tasty!
Lodeiro showing his greatness in that moment. So calm and composed.
i have no idea how he slipped it into that corner
Lots of lube
GG Loons
GG Loons. Could have gone either way.
Uh, no. We ALWAYS shit the bed against you guys.
Nah. Always goes whatever way I don’t want it to.
Have you tried betting on a Loons loss?
I don’t bet on anything ever, but I sure wouldn’t bet against my favorite team. I can’t even admit I think they’ll lose before hand. During the game, all day.
The Maple Leafs strategy.
False, lucky to not end 6-2
This isn't Providence Park
🤣🤣🤣
Huzzah! Not Last!
One more time “for the kings of CONCACAF”
No longer the Spoon leaders
"win every trophy" they said
Yeah where the fuck is my spoon?
If we did ever win the spoon I bet they put it in the case as a reminder.
Gg Minnesota
Poseidon! God of the SEA!
Another classic 3 goal game against Minnesota. Never gets old.
I would respectfully disagree lmao
Good game thread at least. Shots were wacky all game and the ref was relatively fair and consistent.
Yeah I was pretty happy with him. He called a few soft fouls each way but got the important stuff correct and the game didn't escalate.
The Min keeper could've done better there tbh
Eh, that's a tough one to save. It *is* savable, but in MLS most GKs don't get to it.
He was duplicating his defender's efforts. The defender has most of the far post blocked; the keeper can pinch in more towards the near post where Lodeiro has an actual shooting angle. And if he does that... still not a *routine* stop, but it would take less of a highlight reel play to get a hand on it. ICE COLD
Ice cold nico 🥶
Gg Seattle. Y’all always have our number
I liked that.
Clinical
“Great effort from Minnesota to find the equalizer.” Shut the fuck up
J Mo furious RN
He should be. He should have had two goals.
Classy fucking finish
This game was put on ice like a sprained ankle.
We back baby. Sorry Minny
GG
I hate it here
We love having you guys visit.
⚽⚽⚽
that’s right we back boys
Silly Minnesota, did you think you would not lose at Lumen Field?
No.
Why?
Nicely done! Game!
FOR THE KINGS OF CONCACAF
YESSSSSS
POSEIDON ICES IT
#LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
YES
Apparently Lumen is guaranteed 3 goals lmao
NIICOOOOOOOOOOOO
Never let it be said Reynoso can't hit the shit out of a soccer ball
Better to be lucky than good
I have now seen LAFC and Seattle on the road within a few weeks. LAFC right now are the best team in MLS if they keep this up there is no way anybody will beat them this year.
They looked like ass against Colorado yesterday. Such is MLS
LAFC is always the best team in the league as long as they face absolutely zero adversity.
I remember 2019 too!
That's what people told us in 2019
If Seattle had JP, we'd contend. We'll make the playoffs, maybe start at home, but I think we top out at 3rd place with 4th being more likely.
We finish at 2nd in the West, that's the deal
I forgot he was out. That might help.
Still got plenty of games to go for Rusnak to continue settling in and Vargas/Atencio/Leyva to develop in JP's place
Wow, definitely haven't heard that before
this has felt like an old school MLS game.
Yeah pretty sloppy all around.
not in a good way. although i think the weather is the main reason idk if it's just my jadedness with irl rn seeping into everything i do, but as much as i love this league, the vibes are just...off. feels like there's a lot more dead stadiums and not as many good games
I think the new car smell has officially worn off of MLS.
It's not that when the league has been around over 25 years and the Sounders as a club have been around for over a half century across various leagues.
That's an amazing thing to say The new car smell went away in the nineties
No it didn't. The car was still being built in the 90s
Specifically 1998.
Was it Kallman’s name he just butchered?
Call-mon
I’m not sure how you fuck that up…just say it like it’s spelled
Whenever the ball gets to Amarilla he has no idea what to do and panics. So strange for a striker, especially a DP
Especially for all his boasting, he has been phenomenally unimpressive
Yeimar come on dude, the ball was gone
Good stop by Rowe there
Well, looks like I'll get to watch two minutes of soccer today
I feel like that's my fault. I'm gonna be at 300 minutes today (never happens) so I clearly stole many of your minutes.
Haha I have no excuse.
Sounders need to seriously work on their counterattack.
It'll come back with time. Morris + Lodeiro + Ruidiaz was near unstoppable when they were last together in 2020.
No surprise we hold up and wait at the end of a game up a goal. Earlier in the game those were much more dangerous.
Time to shithouse this game out boys Edit: Or score a decisive goal, that works too
We're the champions of CONCACAF, we should be acting like it!
God damn I love watching Nouhou so much (except his misstep in the first half). He just muscled the fuck out of Taylor.
Go Nouhou lol
The Hou Train pulled into the station
Hou are ya?!
Nouhou is such a Chad
But he's from Cameroon
Hear he's 'Ghana move to Europe soon.
CHOO CHOOO
would it nouhunou or hunouhou
You would want the common part of the name twice, so it would have to be Nouhounou.
Who’s backup to Nouhou? I’ve heard good things about him but he has not had a good game today
He's been quite sloppy today, no argument here. Jimmy Medranda would be his backup: better service and shooting, but much worse on defense.
Medranda who is building up fitness after a lot of injuries and is a much more attacking option
medranda. also good
Medranda
How’s he for a left back?
he's alright, average defender slightly above average attacker, seems kind of fragile
just an awkward game from Nouhou. Is he still champagne drunk from CCL?
Besides the two miss hits, he's been the best defender
yes, besides the mishit where he gifted Minn their goal... like I said, it's been awkward
He's also cleaned up a lot of other people's slop that could've led to goals and shut down multiple counters. Overall good day with one major slip up and another one that wasn't that bad
Annnnd right on q lol
yeah that was awesome
i usually don’t hate rowe as much as everyone on here but wow he’s having a stinker since coming on
Rowe… it’s always Rowe pissing me off.
What the fuck Rowe...
Free corner 🤷♂️
Why can't Heath keep his pants up? Left his belt in Minnesota?
He lives in a van, down by the river
This has been a weird game, I'm sufficiently scared
Minnesota doesn’t know how to counter, how the heck do you mess up a 4 v 2 like that
Consistent incompetence in the attacking third of the pitch
Adrian Heath tactics
That one is in no way on Heath, he can't get on the field and do the counter himself.
It's not NOT on Heath though. Our attack has been toothless all season. The pass out to the wing is right out of his playbook, this behavior is coached. His offensive mind is lacking and always has been.
Fair enough
Can't believe Minny blew that counter, yeesh
