Thank you fellow MLS fans. Your support tonight is epic and... Just thank y'all. We couldn't be here without y'all pushing us on the field. MLS is fun to watch all around.
That Seattle lineup may be one of the most talented lineups in MLS history.....up there with the DC United teams of the 90s. Both teams were full of internationals.
Good job Seattle! Gotta give credit where it's due. Other than the scoreline, Seattle did a really good job with the atmosphere tonight too. I think this will go a long way in showing the MLS in a better light.
I went to the match. The atmosphere wasn't nearly as good as people might think. US soccer has a long, long way to go before it's respected on the world stage. From the field to the stands, to the streets after the game. The best section by far was the Pumas away section. They were loud well past the final whistle.
For the most part while walking out of the stadium you would have thought Seattle had lost or at best tied. The vibe was low, there were very few chants and very few interactions between Sounders fans who didn't know each other. Some of that, though, is engrained in the city of Seattle itself. It may be different in other cities and stadiums around the USA. The only other MLS stadium I've been to is LAFC many years ago. I think it was at a university at the time. Not totally sure.
I keep hearing that Seattle has the best fans in the MLS. Even if that's true, they need to be better. And if it is true then this league has even further to go than I thought it did. The MLS will grow as the fans grow it, along with the quality on the field. But I suppose that has to come first. And it DEFINITELY has to come first in Seattle.
The Sounders, since joining the MLS, have won a lot. These fans don't know yet what it's like to sit at the bottom of the table. As soon as the local Seattle teams start consistently losing, the attendance begins to drop. Sure, there are the hardcores that wont go anywhere but there aren't as many of those in Seattle as in Europe or other cities and states around the US. If THIS is the vibe when they win a final, I fear what will happen when they begin to lose. And they will. Everyone does at some point. Even the mighty Manchester United.
The game felt like any other regular season MLS match in Seattle. Good, but not as great as the television might tell you it is. When they play Portland the intensity level is higher than it was against Pumas. And it was a Champions League Final! Where Seattle won!
Having said that I do like how few fights there are between opposing fans in the United States. Never liked that part about world soccer.
Also it's just soccer. I'm not coming down on Sounders fans. They just are what they are and this will never be Europe no matter how badly the television wants it to be or makes you think it is. They're polite in the same way as a neighbor leaving their other neighbors alone instead of inviting them over for BBQs all summer. They won't bother you, but they won't chant with you much either. And unless you initiate conversation, most of them won't say a single peep to you even if your shoulders touch for 90 minutes. They just kind of leave you alone. Many of them seem to have a lot of fun at the games though. It's extremely family friendly which I do like in some way. They lack intensity though. And probably always will here in Seattle.
There is something special about going to a game in Europe or England and fearing a bit for your safety. That wont happen in Seattle. I can't change it one way or another though. I'm just along for the ride.
And now I'm about to post an essay that I'm not sure why I wrote, to a three day old thread that no one may read, about something that I don't care nearly as deeply about as it may comes across.
I guess I'm just sick of hearing that the Sounders are the best fans in the league (not that you said that) and they're my second team! But I do hear it far too often.
My first team being Newcastle United after my parents and I moved their for my adolescent to teen years from here.
Downvote me. You’re wrong.
Their away fans were great where I was at for the game, they took some good ribbings and dished it out too. But all I can say is I’m happy to be a sounders fan today.
I was at leagues cup final and this one and it amazes me how passionate and kind their supporters are. Truly a joy to have them in Seattle, at least when winning
I got in a wreck last week and my back has not been friendly to me so unfortunately I’ll be witnessing it from a screen if it isn’t stupidly blacked out as many things are here.
Thank you for this. So much better.
I respect Holden's talent and positivity through multiple devastating injuries. It takes a special person to rehab relentlessly and over. Most players would have tapped out.
That said, he does remind me of the Bojack Horseman character "Mr. Peanut Butter" and I'd rather not have him call matches.
I just wish they would have let the atmosphere carry the moment. Cut the graphics and the goofy music and the cynical Lalas. Just soak in the moment for the fans.
As fan on this sub linked me to the MLS ETR crew. They were drunk. Weibe looked like he was about to cry at all times. It was perfect. They weren't Sounders supporters but they have truly committed themselves to the league and it clearly meant a lot.
it was actually designed for both soccer and football, and the stadium wouldn't exist without MLS soccer: [https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/jan/14/how-soccer-saved-the-seattle-seahawks](https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/jan/14/how-soccer-saved-the-seattle-seahawks). just an interesting tidbit. Go sounders!!!
I think it’s probably coming. At some point the Seahawks will outgrow the stadium and Sounders/Reign will become primary tenants. That’s my hope anyways.
The Seahawks don't need a downtown stadium, and may even do better somewhere outside the city (eastside for example).
But it's not so much physically outgrowing, but just that the NFL will be pushing for a more modern stadium in not too much time, and Lumen is 20 years old now. And with the new revenue sharing rules in NFL, Seahawks will want to have more suites so they can maximize the revenue that they don't have to share.
Just my take on it.
Good thing we picked up Rusnak. Could be a blessing in disguise for a diamond in the rough signing this summer or a lot of PT for Vargas/Atencio/Leyva to develop
I wonder how bizarre it is for non-soccer fans to see the fireworks, check what's going on, and seeing that Seattle won some continental competition against an international team, rather than the domestic major league.
Not really a thing in other sports
I hadn’t even thought about it. But yeah! When was the last time an American team played an international game that both meant something and wasn’t against a Canadian/Mexican team
Haha I mean yeah, casual *soccer* fans love that story
I'll be curious how much it transcends to casual sports fans though, it is completely foreign in the other 4 major sports in USA/Canada
People that aren't even fans of any sport still watch the world cup. Having a local team play in something with the "world cup" in the name will definitely raise eyebrows enough to get them to tune in.
Okay that’s it. That was fun, and congrats Sounders.
But from now on we root for our team. And that’s it. Because MLS teams just regularly win this thing, and it’s nbd.
Joao Paulo injury is the unfortunate side story to Seattle today
I think Joao Paulo is the best player in MLS tbh, not sure if that's a hot take or not
I thought we were cooked when both JP and Nouhou went down. No problem, just bring on the 16 year old to replace the MVP. Vargas probably got a Euro contract signed this night.
He's definitely Seattle's best player this season with the possible exception of Roldan... It'll be a lot tougher without him, but Vargas and Rusnak showed that they can fill the void pretty darn well.
I don't want to rain on the parade Seattle is having rn but lol at this take. 100% a hot take. Definitely one of the best 6's in MLS and had a great 2021 tho!
He didn't? He was 3rd and 3rd-5th were all about the same % of votes. It was Carlos Gil, then Mukhtar kinda far behind, then the rest of the finalists.[https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/carles-gil-named-2021-landon-donovan-mls-most-valuable-player](https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/carles-gil-named-2021-landon-donovan-mls-most-valuable-player)
Gil 52%Mukhtar 12%Paulo 5%Salloi 5%Castellanos 4%
Again, I'm not trying to rain on Seattle's parade. Congrats! But that's a hot take
In the short run, you can absolutely win by spending smarter, not bigger. In the long run, the same financial imbalance that makes it hard for a poor club to get and keep good players also makes it hard for them to get and keep good coaches, managers, and scouts.
That's pretty much how Seattle got Garth Lagerway away from RSL, after all. We were willing to pay him more personally, and to give him a bigger toy chest to play with as GM.
Busy making phone calls to confirm Seattle hosting World Cup matches.
hopefully.
Maybe calling Cindy Cone to ask why the fuck US Soccer hasn't been here in like 10 years.

Hopefully it does the fireworks like it did for me
Funny, but I thought the reffing was actually pretty good, especially for CONCACAF. Positive reinforcement, folks - it works! I was at the match, though, and they weren’t showing replays of the fouls.
>Funny, but I thought the reffing was actually pretty good, especially for CONCACAF
Generally Bartone gets most of the stuff right, but he is too soft/inconsistent on yellows and tries to give advantage when he should just give the free kick (happened twice this match, no advantage but he did not call it back; merely maintaining possession does not constitute advantage). He also got the Pumas penalty dead wrong in leg 1, an acceptable call on the field but it should have been reversed on VAR (Arreaga clearly kicks the ball away and then Dinneno plows though him, that is never a foul).
Is he the best that CONCACAF has to offer? I mean towards yes. He has the potential to be great, but he isn't there yet.
Pumas is gassed. They have a lot of injured players and don’t have much depth. They were going to eventually collapse. Unfortunately it happened at the CCL final
I literally turned to my friend seconds before the 2nd goal and said “Pumas looks tired.” Was at the match - they were gassed about 15 minutes into the second half. I think the travel got to them.
What’s that one Mexican reports twitter that celebrated Seattle’s win last week?
Edit: found his tweet from last week https://twitter.com/AlvaritoMorales/status/1519536812464738305?s=20&t=CW3qx8Jd7y9DfHETS1RXqA
Lol, I don't know him. It was just a funny video last week and was wondering if he had another one after this defeat for Pumas. But thanks for the heads up.
Just award the trophy. You're in the entertainment business and no one is entertained by seeing refs get medals. Especially after that horrid first leg performance by them
They weren't great this time either. They left a couple of fouls for advantage that never materialized, let 11 fouls go in the first half without a repeat infringement yellow, let Pumas get away with stopping a promising attack only to card Rusnak for stopping one a minute later...
Is he the best CONCACAF ref? Yeah. Is he a good ref? Meh. I would say he's inconsistently decent.
One of the best nights of my life, my voice still isn't fully recovered
You guys always one upping TFC so sad. I remeber when we should have one this now you guys get it... Congrats tho solid team.
Went to the game. Cheers to the Pumas fans. They seem really classy and fun.
THREE!?!?!? NIL!?!?!? got dam
Sounders have done that to the last 3 LigaMX teams to visit Lumen. I hope we can make that a thing...
Thank you fellow MLS fans. Your support tonight is epic and... Just thank y'all. We couldn't be here without y'all pushing us on the field. MLS is fun to watch all around.
We were ALL Sounders fans last night
I am. SO Drunk
Good morning friend, time to drink a shit ton of water and go back to sleep (assuming you don't have to work)
A night I will absolutely never forget. Incredible to be at the stadium to witness this. No way I was ever going to miss it.
That Seattle lineup may be one of the most talented lineups in MLS history.....up there with the DC United teams of the 90s. Both teams were full of internationals.
Pain
Like Kevin Payne?
Pumas should be used to play against 12, they do it twice a year!
Are you trying to imply that the referee favored Seattle? Because if so, that's nonsense.
I had one of the best nights of my life
same here, what an electric evening!
Good job Seattle! Gotta give credit where it's due. Other than the scoreline, Seattle did a really good job with the atmosphere tonight too. I think this will go a long way in showing the MLS in a better light.

What do you mean "Other than the scoreline"'.. ?
He’s not detracting the score line he’s saying in addition to the score line
They did what we and others couldn’t. I hope this is just the beginning.
Scmhetz just dropped an F-bomb on the post-game Gass interview. Gotta love it
Saw that. What a boss
Better than better than Bob!
Congrats Seattle. I wish it were NYCFC that was the first MLS team to do it but I respect your club a lot.
Ligma MX… lol. W brought the kid out.
I WAS THERE WHEN r/LIGAMX WAS KILL. IT WAS GLORIOUS.
apology for poor english when were you when ligmax dies? i was sat at home eating smegma butter when pjotr ring ‘ligmax is kill’ ‘yes’

Absolutely right there
The wailing there is hilarious
MLS Power Rankings: Seattle #1...I told you so
“Don’t make me chicken salad out of chicken crap” Did this USFL color analyst just drop this golden line on me?
Lol... dude that is ringing in my ears as well. What an odd thing to say.
Watched from all the way in Dallas. Was worth every stuttered buffer and force close (middle of a windstorm). Thank you hometown team.
You here for the game Saturday? It should be a fun one
I got in a wreck last week and my back has not been friendly to me so unfortunately I’ll be witnessing it from a screen if it isn’t stupidly blacked out as many things are here.
If it's blacked out, it'll probably be on FCDallas.com/stream it's available for free to anyone in the metropolex!
From another Dallas based dispaced Sounders fan ... Sounders till we die!
The FS1 coverage in the closing minutes and post match sucked. I hate FS1 and look forward to them going away.
Here's the third goal with Costigan calling it https://twitter.com/bubbaprog/status/1522063675208740866?t=VFt59NKX1m7W6FHzt5Ic2g&s=19

I prefer to watch the highlights on YouTube in 720p
MLS is doing coverage and interviews on youtube!
Thank you. Really helpful.

prob not tbh
Last week I said Nashville's stadium wouldn't be the loudest in MLS, what does everyone think now?
You did the math that 68,000 > 30,000. So I think you're a math genius.
Lumen field is an NFL stadium bro... at least they don't play in a baseball stadium
it was actually designed for both soccer and football, and the stadium wouldn't exist without MLS soccer: [https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/jan/14/how-soccer-saved-the-seattle-seahawks](https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/jan/14/how-soccer-saved-the-seattle-seahawks). just an interesting tidbit. Go sounders!!!
I would argue it’s not built for soccer until sounders play on a grass field.
Or at least hybrid. I just want safe standing supporters sections
For how much your club has accomplished, your team really needs a grass pitch and some soccer modifications for the fans
I think it’s probably coming. At some point the Seahawks will outgrow the stadium and Sounders/Reign will become primary tenants. That’s my hope anyways.
Curious to how you think an NFL team will outgrow a 68k seat stadium next to downtown
More people need to know this. This is an sports city and community and we all depend on and work with eachother
Stop it, NYCFC doesn't know
>math genius Haven't heard that since elementary school
Good luck in middle school!
You will always lose to a Nouhou posedown.
[удалено]
6-0
my thoughts exactly.
Pumas will likely get eliminated from playoffs contention in a few days as well. They play chivas for their last game of the season.
Seems Nouhou is fine, which is good to see
JP, however...
sucks, ACL. What a loss to the team.
Good thing we picked up Rusnak. Could be a blessing in disguise for a diamond in the rough signing this summer or a lot of PT for Vargas/Atencio/Leyva to develop
What's Benezet up to these days?
if there's ever been a time to break out the "\_\_\_\_\_ died for this" meme, this is the time.
I know 😔
Kelyn Rowe and Will Bruin are CCL champions.................
I wonder how bizarre it is for non-soccer fans to see the fireworks, check what's going on, and seeing that Seattle won some continental competition against an international team, rather than the domestic major league. Not really a thing in other sports
Seattle happens
That’s what makes it cool, that’s a selling point. And now they get to play in the CWC. Casual fans love that story.
I hadn’t even thought about it. But yeah! When was the last time an American team played an international game that both meant something and wasn’t against a Canadian/Mexican team
2007 Copa Sudamericana
Haha I mean yeah, casual *soccer* fans love that story I'll be curious how much it transcends to casual sports fans though, it is completely foreign in the other 4 major sports in USA/Canada
People that aren't even fans of any sport still watch the world cup. Having a local team play in something with the "world cup" in the name will definitely raise eyebrows enough to get them to tune in.
I DONT SEE BRIAN IN THE GROUP
https://twitter.com/brianschmetzer/status/1522114224935227392
Brian is sitting on the side sipping champagne, letting the kids enjoy the moment
It’s not a real cup lift until Coldplay plays
>It’s not a real cup lift Anger boils up... >until Coldplay plays De-escalation ensues
cmon that was a weak trophy raise!
Didn't want to bump JP and his possible torn ACL
Yeah, but just wait until you see our banner ;p
Brutal ,like those Pumas fouls.
🤣 Ouch.
Actual LOL
my only regret is chivas usa didn't live long enough to beat the other chivas in a ccl final
C’mon now. They’ve got Vela, Arango, and a deeper bench than ever. It could happen
My only regret it that I have boneitis
Ngl, I kinda want a Chivas expansion again. The league needs a Chivas.
man city expanded to give us nycfc, but unfortunately neither will ever win a cl
Now we have a target on our backs.
Take a page from the book of Detroit City FC. "Come and get it."
You say that like you didn't before
Well now that target has gotten bigger
Why does the handshake guy also have to be the medals guy? Just have two guys do it.
They had a good system though.
Gotta say though, that's some smooooooth handoffs of those medals.
Okay that’s it. That was fun, and congrats Sounders. But from now on we root for our team. And that’s it. Because MLS teams just regularly win this thing, and it’s nbd.
the sounders 30 for 30 is going to be awesome
Joao Paulo injury is the unfortunate side story to Seattle today I think Joao Paulo is the best player in MLS tbh, not sure if that's a hot take or not
I thought we were cooked when both JP and Nouhou went down.
It's a pretty lukewarm take, he was third in league MVP voting last year.
That is a very hot take IMO
It is not a hot take. Coin flip last year if he was MVP.
I don't want to rain on the parade Seattle is having rn but lol at this take. 100% a hot take. Definitely one of the best 6's in MLS and had a great 2021 tho!
? How is this a hot take? He was #2 in MVP voting? Most voters said it was a coin toss between him and Gil. He's fucking really good.
He didn't? He was 3rd and 3rd-5th were all about the same % of votes. It was Carlos Gil, then Mukhtar kinda far behind, then the rest of the finalists.[https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/carles-gil-named-2021-landon-donovan-mls-most-valuable-player](https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/carles-gil-named-2021-landon-donovan-mls-most-valuable-player) Gil 52%Mukhtar 12%Paulo 5%Salloi 5%Castellanos 4% Again, I'm not trying to rain on Seattle's parade. Congrats! But that's a hot take
I was clearly wrong on my info. Thanks for the correct info. Edit:. Not being snarky, thanks for the correct info.

Good bot
[Pumas are gone, early](https://imgur.com/a/6QbGH1H)
Lmao I wouldn’t wanna stand there either after all that pointless fouling to still end up with 0 goals. Embarrassing.
If MLS had pro/rel and a balanced schedule and unlimited spending and all that there would be no stopping Seattle.
But they don't actually spend unsustainably. The LAFCs and Atlantas could beat them by just throwing more money at their problems.
I disagree. See: Liverpool vs Manchester United.
And they could duke it out with the other 3 profitable teams in the country!
Respect to the away fans
Hate to see JP in crutches. Hope it is not as serious as it seems
Coach said it was probably an ACL tear in the post game presser.
where is the fifa president?
Busy making phone calls to confirm Seattle hosting World Cup matches. hopefully. Maybe calling Cindy Cone to ask why the fuck US Soccer hasn't been here in like 10 years.

There’s a button on mobile to make the fireworks go if they don’t automatically do it too! So cool haha.
It did!
And in rave green
Nice! Everybody needs to understand what a big trophy this is.
Good on the pumas fans for still cheering hard for their team
Genuinely classy of the Sounders fans to applaud Pumas as they get their loser's medals
Only the referees got booed, I thought that was funny.
Funny, but I thought the reffing was actually pretty good, especially for CONCACAF. Positive reinforcement, folks - it works! I was at the match, though, and they weren’t showing replays of the fouls.
>Funny, but I thought the reffing was actually pretty good, especially for CONCACAF Generally Bartone gets most of the stuff right, but he is too soft/inconsistent on yellows and tries to give advantage when he should just give the free kick (happened twice this match, no advantage but he did not call it back; merely maintaining possession does not constitute advantage). I was in the stadium. Pumas' fans were great.
For the most part they were cool, saw a few drinks get thrown from their section. Very passionate like us though
Why aren’t the ribbons on the trophy Green/Blue??
Honestly good question..
This is peak medal giving on the commissioners part. 10/10 accuracy and speed
Does it really need to be a 3-man chain operation to give out the medals? Lmao
Frei should be the USMNT #3
No, he should be #2. He should be there backup to Turner before Steffen.
I thought he is Swiss?
Scored US citizenship a year or so ago. Edit: what the person below me said
Five years ago, I think.
He's been in a USMNT camp.
He got his citizenship a while back. Was actually called up for USMNT but he got injured.
Based on current form, even have argument for #1 tbh
Pumas are not very good. LAFCs got to keep up the pace we’re on cause I want our shot at beating the batter MX teams again
They literally just beat Pachuca
Pumas is gassed. They have a lot of injured players and don’t have much depth. They were going to eventually collapse. Unfortunately it happened at the CCL final
I literally turned to my friend seconds before the 2nd goal and said “Pumas looks tired.” Was at the match - they were gassed about 15 minutes into the second half. I think the travel got to them.
They rested almost their whole starting lineup over the weekend... Fatigue from fixture congestion played basically no role in this match.
No they didn’t lmao
JP :(
Heart breaking… really is…
Hehe those silver medals look great on Pumas
Pumas just want to get out
I would to. I don't want to get runner up awards in someone else's stadium.
Why didn’t they do their crosses thing?
I agree with the Fox boys. Competition is great for Concacaf
We definitely played the #11 team in Liga Mx

We'll see if you make the playoffs this year
Shut up alexi and John, want to listen
What’s that one Mexican reports twitter that celebrated Seattle’s win last week? Edit: found his tweet from last week https://twitter.com/AlvaritoMorales/status/1519536812464738305?s=20&t=CW3qx8Jd7y9DfHETS1RXqA
Álvaro Morales is a bonafide troll. WWE tier villain. he tries so hard to make ppl react to him. that's all he does
Lol, I don't know him. It was just a funny video last week and was wondering if he had another one after this defeat for Pumas. But thanks for the heads up.
>Seattle's win last week
Well, no, but also yes
;) I’ll leave it
Switzerland should call up frei 😁
Probably too late for him now but maybe he'll get a friendly call up.
He’s American
Wow Frei finally getting some recognition! Took fucking long enough!
Me, drunk, watching this awards ceremony: Fuck the refs won again. They did it. They got us. But next time,
lmfao love this
lmaooo
Damn they make the VAR refs wear a ref uniform? Seems a bit overkill tbh
