Brutal for us (Canada). At the end of the day though I just hope he's okay. I believe our team is still capable without him. Hopefully we won't have to see that play out.

Barthez_Battalion

When Davies can't go it becomes the Tajon Buchanan show which is also a must see event.

Khalleb

It suck so much for Davies. But at the same time, I am thankful Bayern was able to find it before something worse happen to him. Get better soon Big boy.

lawvol

Wow. Massive blow for Canada. No longer a given that USMNT has to play Yedlin in that Canada game just to deal with Davies.

jcalling80

no one can actually deal with Davies, except Covid. :(

Shway_

The amount of people that upvoted that is dumbfounding lol. If Yedlin was going to be the answer, I gotta say he would’ve been Davies breakfast.

MyNameIsRS

We saw how Yedlin dealt with Davies in the U.S. home game. Spoiler: Not well

Disk_Mixerud

Sometimes the best 1v1 players in the world beat their defenders. That doesn't mean the defender was bad. It's not like he tore apart his side of the field all game or something.

Gocrazyfut

Yedlin and dest did well vs Davies? Other than the one time everyone decided it was best to let him run free

QuickMolasses

Exactly. They handled him well except for like twice. Unfortunately one of those times led to a goal, so everybody remembers it as a poor game for the fullbacks.

lordcorbran

And it wouldn't have even been a goal if John Brooks hadn't given up on the play, which it seems like Berhalter is still pissed at him about.

Shway_

It all depends on the beer that you’re drinking. Sam Adams will mess up your vision.

debacol

Id rather Scally have to deal with him than Yedlin imo.

CaptainJingles

Hope he has a swift recovery. The crazies might have a field day with this one.

M1L0

First things first, I hope Alphonso is ok and has a speedy recovery. Of course you are right and the crazies will do their thing and twist the hell out of this. But if anything, this should be further evidence to prove how dumb their positions are. I’ve got a colleague that was talking just yesterday about how she doesn’t want her booster or her kids to get the vaccine because of the risk of myocarditis. Well, one of the fittest athletes in the world got myocarditis related to getting COVID, and you’re statistically more likely to get it from COVID than from the vaccine, not to mention all of the other effects COVID can have.

lyonbc1

Also the data overwhelmingly shows myocarditis risk in unvaxxed people is much higher than vaxxed: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34341797/ Joe Rogan got owned on his own show I read the other day trying to make the same silly argument: https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/joe-rogan-josh-zepps-covid-vaccine-b1992999.html?amp I know those types of people aren’t into scientific data and facts but still maybe they’d be open to something concrete and proven vs whatever Facebook posts and quack “medicine” they stumble across

Or1g1nalrepr0duct10n

And yet every social media post from someone with 50 followers that says "my sister-in-law's hairdresser's butler's perfectly healthy teenage son DIED from a massive heart attack fifteen seconds after getting his booster hashtag-novaxmandate" somehow miraculously gets 10,000 likes on FB and IG and Twitter. Amazing how that works.

M1L0

Lol this is a great point as well. Myocarditis is essentially inflammation of the heart muscle. Obviously, you don’t want it if it can be avoided. But is it an automatic death sentence like the Joebronis make it out to be? Certainly not lol.

Bolverkk

I used to respect Rogan. Now I think he is just another conspiracy theorist that cant see forest for the trees. Facts are hard.

pm_me_jk_dont

That's a very strong metaphor coming from a Timbers fan

Bolverkk

🤣 Freudian slip

Jolandia

Sometimes we just can’t help ourselves

M1L0

Agree completely, and thanks for providing these links!

AlecW81

like 40x more risky

SportsMasterGeneral

Truly so tired of the crazies

AGSattack

This supremely sucks.

congeal

Sorry Canada. I hope he gets over this quickly and has no further symptoms of long-haul Covid.

Mihairokov

cut my life into pieces

muaddib99

tajon's my last resort

Mihairokov

suffocation, no borjan

muaddib99

don't give a fuck if the US plays yedlin

FalafelBall

It's almost like getting COVID is way worse than the side effects of the vaccine. We're seeing more and more athletes who got COVID are having heart issues. That's why I personally think leagues should require vaccination - yes, you can get COVID if you're vaccinated, but it's much less likely Feel better, Fonzie

FalafelBall

Being vaccinated doesn't stop you from getting COVID, it just makes it very unlikely. But if he's not boosted then it's not a surprise - with omicron, you're not really vaccinated if you only had two shots months ago

RCTID1975

If this happened with being vaccinated, imagine the state he'd be in if he wasn't

yaybidet

Not with omicron! Nobody is safe.

KonigSteve

be careful you're not looking at how Omicron is effecting "Vaccinated" people as they are calling anyone who has even had 1 JnJ dose a year ago a "vaccinated person" when very clearly it's not the same thing as someone who is up to date on their boosters etc.

yaybidet

Double vaxxed and boosted and wife and I got omicron last week. The media doesn’t even use the “breakthrough” term anymore since it’s so common.

KonigSteve

And you had to go to the ICU like the unvaccinated people right? .. statistics say no, you didn't.

hurleyburleyundone

Incredible how ppl dont realize that the vaccinations they got probably saved their lives or saved them from a really bad time.

yaybidet

Pretty sure I do realize this…just said omicron infecting vaccinated people is not an “unlikely” event.

hurleyburleyundone

Mine was less directed to you and more as a general observation. Wasnt an attack on you at all

yaybidet

What are you even arguing? When did I claim that I had to go to the ICU? All I said is that vaccinated people getting omicron is not some “rare” event like the parent poster made it seem.

Disk_Mixerud

I think people are just so used to the crazies starting off with a comment like yours that they just instinctively attacked it without waiting to see if you were actually one of them.

FalafelBall

Even with omicron making it easier for vaccinated people to get COVID, vaccinated people are still very unlikely to end up in the hospital. ICUs are full of unvaccinated people.

crocken

I really hope the NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL become more transparent with whatever horrific data they're collecting on their athletes that get covid. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear something earth-shakingly bad like Lamar Jackson retiring from long covid.

seasportsfan

Just because someone is vaccinated doesn’t mean they can’t get the virus. However, it does diminish: their chances of getting the virus; the severity of their symptoms, their ability to transmit the virus due to lower viral loads.

ichinii

Yeah that's what I was referring to in terms of the inflammation. I was under the impression that fully vaxxed and boosted people have a really low chance of getting myocarditis.

Jampian

Buddy just anecdotally that has to be wrong. Tens of thousands people daily here in Canada are double vaccinated and spreading the virus like wildfire

cassius1213

Hey, quick question, do you know what the plural of "anecdote" is?

Jampian

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FIwNcrnWQAUsWP9?format=jpg&name=large Do you think I’m making this up? This is just one day in Quebec. 76% of new cases were from double vaccinated people. If I talied up the last month, the number of positive cases will be in the hundreds of thousands for a population with 8 mil. I’m not arguing the vaccines don’t work, but don’t tell me it prevents spreading

cassius1213

I certainly didn't think you were making things up, I was merely trying to emphasize that personal experience doesn't necessarily equal objective reality. But you brought reputable government data to the argument, for which I need to praise you! Regardless, looking at the stats you've cited, I feel that I need to introduce you to the Base Rate Fallacy, if you're not already familiar, as "76% of new cases being from amongst double-vaccinated individuals" doesn't really mean much in a vacuum: * [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Base_rate_fallacy?wprov=sfla1](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Base_rate_fallacy?wprov=sfla1) * [https://www.health.nd.gov/sites/www/files/documents/COVID%20Vaccine%20Page/COVID-19_Vaccine_Base_Rate_Fallacy.pdf](https://www.health.nd.gov/sites/www/files/documents/COVID%20Vaccine%20Page/COVID-19_Vaccine_Base_Rate_Fallacy.pdf) Finally, as to your last point, it does seem possible or even likely that vaccination doesn't prevent transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus given many recent studies, which makes it all the more critical to increase vaccination rates further (and to start getting people in the habit of being regularly boosted) as well as to normalize simple public health interventions like regular proper mask wearing and meaningfully self-isolating when one has symptoms of illness. After all, reducing transmission isn't something where we need to rely solely on pharmaceutical interventions!

Pbrisebois

So 24% of new cases are unvaccinated people. In a province with a 90% vaccination rate, it's a worry that 10% of the population can cause a quarter of cases.

Jampian

Really? You would strip away all their rights and give them a fine for causing 25% of the cases/hospitalisations as the QC govt is doing. I am fully vaccinated and it’s complete BS imo

Pbrisebois

Cases and hospitalizations are 2 totally different things.

Jampian

I only said cases cause you did. Hospitalisations they represent 28% (almost 1/4) as per this mornings latest update

Pbrisebois

You mentioned cases in the post I replied to. It's even worse if unvaccinated people are causing more than a quarter of admissions if they're only 10% of the population. As for unvaccinated people paying a fee or tax. I'd need to see the actual proposal to make an informed decision on it. From the sounds of it, vaccine appointments have spiked, so maybe Legault knows what he's doing.

FalafelBall

Fully vaccinated isn't enough with omicron. Everyone needs to be boosted. So if he wasn't boosted, his protection probably wasn't as high as it was before omicron

Mr_GinAndTonic

The real question is how many of the European guys will be there for any of the CONCACAF teams? Hard to imagine clubs aren't putting pressure on big name guys like Pulisic, Chucky, Antonio, etc. to not go. FWIW, I had the US and Canada drawing 1-1 before this news. If Davies ends up being the only guy to pull out (for both teams), then I'm spotting the US a 2-0 win.

CoolstorySteve

We need to win the away games, I don’t care hiw hard it is to win in concacaf on the road that needs to be our only goal. Play a full rotated 11 in the USA game if we beat Honduras in the first match

increment1

Ya, we aren't ready competing with the US for a spot, so we should play a complete B team and just leave the A team in the Caribbean and not have them fly back and forth. It would be a great window if we get wins against Honduras and El Salvador while losing to the US. Better than beating the US but losing to Honduras.

RCTID1975

Rofl. No one is putting pressure on guys to not play in World Cup qualifiers. It's literally the ultimate level of their profession

TheRealMewt

It's irrelevant what the clubs are saying to the European heavyweights where WCQs are concerned. If you're called up and match fit, you're going.

Or1g1nalrepr0duct10n

The clubs are not going to stop healthy players from playing in competitive WCQs.

orgngrndr01

If Davies is out for three weeks, he may miss the next 2-3 games of the WCQ matches and the US-Canada tie is about 17 days away.
