Really excited for the USL who picked up a ton of new players today. And MLS Next.

poopy_toaster

Lol Philly: “PASS!”

jjspacer

Who else will assist Own Goal?

smalldoginabigcity

How does this draft work? Why was Chicago 11? MLS noob here sorry

overscore_

Order is reverse of the final standings, including playoffs. Draft is just a college draft, pick eligible players and maybe offer them a contract.

MillerTimeMTG

SuperDraft noob here. Why did FC Dallas pass on one of their picks only to take someone 4 picks later?

jjspacer

That shouldn't be possible, once you pass, you pass on all other picks as well. I guess it is an error

MillerTimeMTG

I got a few responses to this same question on Twitter. It’s apparently an error on the website.

overscore_

No idea, that might be an accounting error.

Old_Gods978

I know we couldn’t but I wish New England could have gotten Thorleifur He should have a shot at the national team rebuilding at least

walkingparad0x

What’s the point of teams passing on their picks at the draft? I know not every player will make it but there’s a possibility there will be some good depth pieces in the draft.

GaddisGolazo

In the case of the Union, those players would take up spots needed to promote players from within the academy.

walkingparad0x

I definitely understand why the Union passes on draft picks considering their academy produces good players. I remember when Matt Freese and Brenden Aaronson signed a homegrown deal back in 2018 they said that those HGP were considered their draft picks.

gogorath

My favorite is Dallas passing on the 6th pick in the 3rd round only to take someone with the 10th and the 31st?

walkingparad0x

LMAO they realized last minute that maybe they did want someone

voxnemo

Cost. Most programs of that type have a per person cost for space, support, pay, staff, etc. So the more you take on the more it cost you. So depending on the size of their facilities and their budget they have to limit the number of people that come in. They also want to keep some space open for players they discover on their own.

IPromesididntdoit

Any opinions on the FCC picks thus far?

CincytilIdie

Celentano looks to be a great GK prospect, and at worst gives us a backup for several seasons. Ian Murphy is domestic CB depth that could grow into a solid contributor. And Markanich is a lottery ticket. As far as drafts go; not bad.

cain62

Didn’t realize the draft was today but I’m very happy with the picks RBNY made. Looks like a lot of potential.

johnysoccer123

The 3rd round pick by NYCFC is one of the best college players I’ve watched I’ve seen in person. Don’t keep up with college soccer too much, but I went to a bunch of NCAA tournament games and he was absolutely insane. 1 man wrecking crew

walkingparad0x

I wonder if Kevin O’Toole will stick with NYCFC or if he’ll just sign a USL contract with the Red Bulls. Interesting that NYRB didn’t take him but I think it’s a little funny that NYCFC ended up drafting him instead.

Yellowfury0

quakes picked up another clemson guy round 3.

WelpSigh

incredibly foolish of nashville to not select mitch guitar. pretty clearly a great fit based on his name

Halouverite

Draft tracker has stopped updating but the whitecaps have announced their selection with the 72nd pick Edit: and the 86th so I think it's over now... just waiting to hear what happened

overscore_

It's back updating now

voxnemo

I have nothing showing for Round 3 even with a full refresh/ reload of the page. E: So I have something for Atlanta for the 88th but nothing showing for the 75th... odd.

johanspot

The franchise changing Will Vint for Tola Showunmi trade.

Lexel_Prix

I think we are at the point in the draft where you just point and claim dibs.

Hammer_FrmDaO

Who the fuck is that guy (Montreal drafted some mf no one knows)

RahaneFan

Wow I was literally thinking it'd be interesting if Achille got picked by Seattle. I'm pretty sure he's a French citizen so I wonder how that's gonna turn out.

cmortis

We just can't help ourselves with drafting international players can we.

johanspot

Honestly, since all of these players would be looked at as second team players to me the value right now is heavily towards an international where those slots don't matter much. If the player makes himself worth it then you can deal with the problem later.

NoBreadsticks

I do wonder what roster rules will look like for MLSNP

johanspot

Yeah, me too. I think it will probably be more restrictive than the USL was since there were some pretty big opportunities to spend and MLS sort of hates that.

rzle

wow round 2 is flying by.

johanspot

Teams might have bots picking for them now.

jjspacer

Sounders bot picks best available player from a Washington based college or former Academy kid.

ATXsnail

Laughed at the thought of each team logging out and leaving it to autodraft

themir81

Or Monkeys picking bananas, each banana has a player name on it

NextDoorNeighbrrs

I like how FCD had 3 out of the 28 first round picks and we didn’t get an interview with any of the 3 and only got highlights for one of them.

johanspot

OK- My favorite superdraft game! Predict the number of the first pick that is passed on. I'll go pick 53 to RSL.

irondeepbicycle

I'm kind of amazed we picked someone at 53. We've always ignored the draft and after we sold our pick at 25 I thought there was no way we were making a pick.

johanspot

Haha, I think I am more disappointed by being wrong about this than anything that could have happened for us in the Superdraft. I felt pretty confident you wouldn't take anyone!

overscore_

Close, Colorado with 51!

overscore_

MTL 67

Tubocass

Whatever Philly's first choice is.

johanspot

They already traded out of everything up to 82, but still possible! The interesting thing is that we are close to the point where it is almost impossible to trade down since $50K in GAM is the minimum amount in a trade. Which is a shame, I really want to see a trade where a player gets sold for less than $10K in GAM.

RahaneFan

I'm gonna guess 55, but I could see the whole draft taking players given the establishment of MLS Next.

CreeperDude17

I’m just happy our pick has normal social media activity

SportsMasterGeneral

Amazing Thorns reference

rzle

Thorns draft pick, GK timbers brought in on loan for a while, social media was an issue for us in 2021.

CreeperDude17

His Twitter handle is SirScoresALot so he’s already a winner in my book

_tidalwave11

NYC really undervalues Domestic/domestic based talent not from their academy and it irks my soul.

your_average_entity

What did you expect from the most eurosnob club in MLS?

Konradlaxin

With our lack of CB depth, the true breath of talented CB’s available, and NYCFC launching a second team I was hoping that they would trade up to get some defensive talent. With how low they were in the draft, I was upset but not surprised that they traded away their pick. At least we’ll always have the excitement of Jack Harrison.

_tidalwave11

I defintely think the draft js a way to pick up on a decent player. Especially when we have had guys like Haak, Torres, and the HVC that is Tony consistently left out of the 18

Thundering165

Whispers are that NYCFC might be signing Benalcazar on a HG . Might explain the lack of CBs

rzle

So the Beaver projected in the 1st round falls to the 2nd, while the one projected for the 2nd round goes at the end of the 1st. Interesting.

johanspot

Haha, when I heard Oregon State I let out a sigh then wondered if I had just remembered the name of the guy I wanted wrong.

rzle

looks like DC got him

atatme77

Fucking right

CincytilIdie

I love that the 28th pick was more expensive than an earlier pick.

Tubocass

I think 50k is the minimum.

CincytilIdie

Columbus got the 25th for 50K with no pick in return.

Tubocass

That's true. But I think Dallas basically just moved their last selection up a few slots. With 3 guys already selected, I doubt a 2nd round pick makes much of an impact.

johanspot

Did anyone have Dallas trading up for a third first round pick on their Superdraft bingo card? This is the part of the draft where it normally seems to me that teams without good academies look for value.

RahaneFan

Uhh this is not the OSU pick I expected

overscore_

Tsiki Ntsabeleng 28th overall!

RandyScandie

FC Dallas with a full buy in on the Super Draft

jjspacer

Worked for Minnesota a few drafts ago getting Dotson and Gasper

dezmodez

Super Draft and Homegrown Players. The Dallas way.

SportsMasterGeneral

They are not trying to spend that 20 mil lol

NextDoorNeighbrrs

Our roster is pretty threadbare at the moment to be fair. Need more depth than just international signings.

johanspot

Now I'd like to see us trade Jackson Conway to Charlotte for the first pick of the second round. They could use a homegrown player on the roster I think and I don't think that Conway is ever going to do anything for us with Josef locked in place. He needs minutes to develop his game and I don't think he will ever get them with us.

dezmodez

Actually, this makes a lot of sense. Subscribe.

Halouverite

Damn I had Rasmussen as a possible LWB back option to back up Gutierrez. I guess I'm back to crossing my fingers that something is happening to get Abzi.

BoWeAreMaster

This stream is unwatchable! Wtf MLS? Get it together!

Metazoan

It was perfect for me on the MLS website

johanspot

Someone has said it is better on twitter but I haven't looked since this is mostly backround noise

overscore_

Justin Rasmussen 27th overall!

SportsMasterGeneral

He played for the Fire MLS Next team and he didn’t get on the Fire?

Regression2TheMean

Guess they didn’t need a LB

SportsMasterGeneral

And now they just picked a LB lol

Regression2TheMean

I’m done. So are we just playing a 4-6-0?

SportsMasterGeneral

He looks like he can play winger, I just checked his stats, idk how he dropped so low

CporCv

Y'all see that Thor guy? Now I'm not saying I judge people on appearances. But based on that interview I'd say he is a final boss level douche bag. Like if he were to apply to the super douche club he would pass the visual interview instantly!

MildRunner

That guy is his own caricature.

ogfk

total douche, might be a good forward

cmortis

Honestly, we need a player like that. We have way too many "nice guys" with no swag or skill.

SportsMasterGeneral

Is this new pasta

rzle

people were saying earlier that he was the duke player involved in that viral ucla v duke incident a month or two ago.

CporCv

Ahh yes the one where he taunted and mocked the keeper after his team scored the game-winning goal. The Douche seal of approval

voxnemo

>viral ucla v duke incident He was the one that got pushed down and then yelled at by the UCLA players and goalie. #7

WislaHD

https://brobible.com/sports/article/ucla-duke-soccer-ncaa-tournament-tackle/ Seems so based on the video there

rzle

Would love to see us take the OSU Beaver that was projected for the 1st round. edit: rip.

overscore_

Anthony Markanich 26th overall!

CincytilIdie

Broadcast team is starting to sound tired. I think they've held up pretty well though.

RandyScandie

If they weren't saying Adidas every second word they'd likely be done by now.

jjspacer

You Adidas mean Adidas that Adidas you Adidas say Adidas all Adidas the Adidas time?

RandyScandie

You are saying Kappa really oddly

jjspacer

I Adidas get Adidas paid Adidas for Adidas every Adidas I Adidas type Adidas

CincytilIdie

Gotta get those sweet sweet sponsorship plugs in.

dezmodez

If they say Adidas 100 times, they get a 2% discount on the bland same t-shirts that every team wears.

overscore_

Philip Quinton 25th overall!

dezmodez

Crew with the best background and war room so far.

rzle

Cool, calm, collected. Is there anyone more familiar with the MLS draft than Bruce? Even remembered to plug the sponsor.

TheAgeOfTomfoolery

We about to play a 4-6-0 formation with all these midfielders

ngower

Preparing for turner departure?

dezmodez

LOL! "Preparing for if Matt Turner gets old."

Disk_Mixerud

Gets sold, or getss old?

dezmodez

You know... they likely said sold. I heard old and started cracking up.

ngower

I don’t understand. It’s likely we lose turner in the summer.

SportsMasterGeneral

HOT MIC LOL

overscore_

Jacob Jackson 24th overall!

Halouverite

Now I'm pretty sure none of the Canadian teams will draft a canadian

jablazebc

the fact that we could've gotten any of Omar, Oluwaseyi or Mullings and passed for some random american striker we probably don't need is just classic.

RandyScandie

I'm hoping we end up with Nathan Dos Santos or Reshaun Walkes. Though Walkes might be an odd selection if our striker position is more stocked than it is on paper right now. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

NotASaintDDC

Reshaun is a fuckin baller and a damn good dude. Getting to have him in Des Moines this year was a treat. I will admit, I selfishly hoped he would go undrafted so we could have another year with him but I'm so happy for him!

Halouverite

TFC having their first pick in the early 2nd round means it's always going to be a bit of a shit show, could pick pretty much anyone regardless of positional need.

PejicFilip

I thought tfc might draft gavran

Halouverite

It's possible, and who knows what happens with the late 2nd or 3rd round picks, but oluwayesi, mullings and Omar seemed to be the top choices in most mock drafts. Edit: I'm wrong, TFC pick Gavran

RandyScandie

Our GK coaching is effectively nonexistent. I'd really hope he'd end up somewhere that can support growth rather than a place like TFC that seems to regress keepers.

WislaHD

NOOO

badname22

OOTL on the draft this year. Did we need Omar?

RandyScandie

It's likely he will convert to a defender, and he has solid leadership skills as evident in his time as a captain at the college level. Over all, I think he has a chance at developing into a back line leader. Did we need him this season? No, but long term if we are looking at older defenders as rumoured, he'd have been a solid choice.

WislaHD

This is the SuperDraft, I don't even know what position he plays 😂 But he was a Toronto mans 😔

RandyScandie

Fraser did us dirty

WislaHD

Was worried about Montreal taking him, but the real villain all along was Robin Fraser

LocksTheFox

more like robbin' fraser amirite

RandyScandie

I'm too MAD to LAUGH rn.

overscore_

Mohamed Omar 23rd overall!

RandyScandie

FUCK

TheAgeOfTomfoolery

Thats not money Padraig what the fuck But his fro is sick so im cool with it

TheMightyGatekeeper

I've decided to actually watch it. The production values + my substandard internet is making me want to cry.

asaharyev

It's better on Twitter.

TheMightyGatekeeper

It actually is. Thanks.

TheAgeOfTomfoolery

Alright Padraig draft more money next

Kyunseo

Oh no they showed the wrong player highlights

dezmodez

MLS challenging 2022 by peaking 11 days into the year. Bold move.

WislaHD

You can hear the echo of the draft broadcast in the background of the SKC pick

SportsMasterGeneral

Hawaii to Kansas City would be quite a change

Jingr

At least both places have rich histories of cooking copious amounts of meat.

overscore_

Esai Easley 22nd overall!

TheAgeOfTomfoolery

Fuck I forgot it was Adidas who sponsored this. Thanks Brian.

CincytilIdie

I love that the broadcast got hijacked briefly.

RandyScandie

hahaha their reaction to his parents is peak MLS Draft. This was makes the whole thing worth it!

WislaHD

Aww, they made it work

dezmodez

Zimbabwe loon noises intensify

Medala_

How do they have a scarf or hat from the team? Do they just know already? Edit: one from every team seems like A Lot

voxnemo

I would imagine they talk it out with them and at least send them the ones that have shown interest/ spoken. Or they get a box of all 28 of them. It could all be done in advance, but then you would think the tech and and swaps would already be worked out.

IInviteYouToTheParty

They either just grab them all or they know the few teams interested in them from earlier talks with them and their agent.

MildRunner

I'd guess they get one from each team.

overscore_

I believe they just have a package with every hat/scarf and grab the right one when picked. There's been a couple of giant hat lines in the background in previous drafts.

TheAgeOfTomfoolery

Need to see someone pick the wrong scarf on stream please

Jingr

[Close](https://i.imgur.com/ISBGy9x.jpg)

Kafkas7

My theory is one from every team

rzle

Willing to guess that if MLS wants to put you on camera they are going to send along a scarf or hat from literally every team.

usabsoccer

This is correct. They send a hat and scarf of each team to every guy expected to go early.

rzle

LA Galaxy's draft surprise: A for intent, F for execution.

Kafkas7

Zimbabwe got the same internet as Houston Dynamo

CincytilIdie

What a sweet gesture, and terrible tech moment.

Jingr

That was one of the most endearing moments in years of drafts and they didn't even make it work. Honestly sweet.

RandyScandie

MLS Production let them down, but that is cute as fuck.

RahaneFan

I appreciate the attempt, but good lord this is peak MLS

WislaHD

Well this worked out perfectly At least the gesture was nice Edit: "This is what the MLS superdraft is all about" Yes.

RahaneFan

I appreciate the attempt, but good lord this is peak MLS

dezmodez

#\#NotYetGregNowGo

rzle

Did Greg just give us the newest r/mls meme?

dezmodez

https://i.imgur.com/eOGFJPP.png

rzle

it's too bad that the draft didn't happen yesterday. That moment on meme monday? would have been perfect. We can even add a third g and use it for national team memes.

SportsMasterGeneral

Wow that’s a great moment that went so badly

Lexel_Prix

The summary of this whole draft in one comment.

majorgeneralporter

#🅱️ruh.

overscore_

Farai Mutatu 21st overall!

"NOT YET GREG" *family ends up being on mute anyway*

DavidScottCA

NOT YET GREG

majorgeneralporter

"Now go"

LocksTheFox

NOT YET GREG, NOW GO

WislaHD

"all 3 Cali teams didn't make playoffs last season" We should have this repeated at least once by every MLS broadcast this season

Lexel_Prix

It's crazy that of the six teams in the west that missed out on the playoffs 3 were from Texas and the other 3 were from California. What are the odds?

RandyScandie

Wiebe stop giving them ideas about Canadian players.

TheAgeOfTomfoolery

Ok back from the store what memes did I miss?

majorgeneralporter

Orlando was about to announce their pick before it was delayed to talk to a writer to fill air.

Jingr

Fire drafted a cardboard cutout who's unlikely to even play in the US because he's trialling with with a Championship club and doesn't need a UK passport.

Regression2TheMean

Never change Fire front office… Never change…

TheAgeOfTomfoolery

Incredible

Jingr

Thank you

majorgeneralporter

Orlando passed on a GA forward who then was promptly picked by Atlanta.

SportsMasterGeneral

We drafted a mans head on a stick

Kafkas7

Prolly a defensive upgrade

SportsMasterGeneral

Hey Calvo is gone now

RandyScandie

Incredibly, comes highly touted.

SportsMasterGeneral

The giant sigh they give with every announced pick. Amazing event.

johanspot

I think that this part of the draft is pretty interesting where some teams would be looking to just take someone to stash with the second team to see what happens, but being offered even a small amount of GAM it makes sense to trade back.

LocksTheFox

No, DUNK City. Lob City was the Clippers. SMH

overscore_

O'Vonte Mullings 20th overall!
