Connections upon connections upon connections. He became famous casting, became even more famous with G2, spanish people wanted to talk to him, and he became friends with soccer players and then off of that he became known all over Spain. He became friends with Kun Aguero, who’s good friends with Messi, and here we are.
The energy this dude brings is insane. Hadn't really heard of him until the 2019 World's where he was the person introducing the players coming onto th stage & the energy he gave out was massive along with the crowd.
Going to the *house* of the GOAT Lionel Messi, in the middle of the biggest transfer window in football history. I mean, how do you even pull that off? Crazy. He might even know which team he is going to, is it PSG? Who knows.
But holy shit, if this isn't proof you can make it big as a streamer/personality, what is?
> He might even know which team he is going to, is it PSG? Who knows.
Honestly its been known since just a few hours after Barcas goodbye announcement. Only PSG and CIty had the facilities and City were fast with saying theyre not and Tier 1 journalists had reports on PSG contact within hours.
He also friends with Pique and casters in Spain on Sports. Also have massive deals with Adidas. Hell, he was casting on twitch the Copa America matches with live footage and had a pre show in the finals with Pique and Ronaldo.
The Doc pic was hilarious because he was in full character and you can enjoy it even if you don't know who Doc is, just because of how absurd it was.
Seems justified to be higher voted.
I see a lot of comments in this sub about how only the streamers that are meta in this sub are culturally significant on Twitch, and every time, I wonder how they could have such a narrow experience on the platform. There are so many streamers and so many major spheres of twitch that are virtually never featured here and people act like none of them exist. I saw someone say W H OMEGALUL in a comment about a streamer who pulls 40k viewers every stream like 2 days ago.
English speaking people on an english speaking site don’t know who the spanish streamers are??!?!?!
https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/facebook/001/431/201/40f.png
people are downvoting because twitter posts have nothing to do on this subreddit anyway, but they are only bothered by it if it isn't about the 4-5 streamers that r/LivestreamFail has turned into a dedicated fansub for
all twitter posts should be rebanned imo. just furthers the LSF "in-group" (eventhough this event was "hype" enough to be somewhat of a counter example)
https://www.reddit.com/r/LivestreamFail/comments/p0cmsy/xqc_on_twitter_cool_gameshow_yesterday_but_please/
2nd most upvoted of the day and it's twitter .........
god forbid people downvote a twitter update regarding two people who arent relevant in the english speaking streaming scene that this subreddit almost entirely focuses on.
Most athletes look like normal people in street clothes, not like they're huge and brolic like NFL players or extremely tall like NBA players. It's typically physique that catches the eye, and Messi has a rather standard frame.
Ibai is an absolute legend.
Even in one of Argentina's most viewed TV sports show they were kinda jealous he gets to be in touch/talk to so many top level football players. An actual entertainer and clearly very passionate about what he does.
Nobody TV in Spain bought the Copa America nationally so the price was "low". For that reason he partnered with Pique and his company Kosmos where Kosmos bought the rights, let Ibai stream the entire tournament in his channel and in exchange he had to promote Davis Cup (the tennis cup) which is also run by Kosmos.
He started as a LVP caster (Spanish lol league). From there, he made connections because of his charisma and ended up on G2. His casting was already top tier, having offers to cast profesional football and even the NBA. In the pandemic, Kun Agüero started streaming and he and Ibai became friends. From there, he met Messi.
It's worth noticing that Ibai is probably one of the biggest if not the biggest and most well known Spanish celebrity, being able to pull of streams with +1M watching. Also, because of his casting skills and friendly charisma, most Spanish athletes know who he is and what he does, he is like a connection between to different worlds
>is Ronaldo not considered as on to par as Messi
Not by people who know what they're talking about lol, hard to dispute Messi being the GOAT. You can make an argument that different eras are hard to compare, so you might have Pele, Cruyff and Maradona in the conversation, but just between Messi and Ronaldo its clear that Messi is a step above.
Not 100% sure why people are downvoting, but Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo being the 2 GOATs is not undisputed. Most would agree they're the best of the last 10 years. But Pelé, Maradona, Cruyff and more are all also candidates for the GOAT title.
Its not undisputed but I don’t think anyone seriously believes anyone else was better than Messi or Ronaldo—the arguments are usually based around which one of the two is the goat
Dunno if he's a fan, but most sports personas in Spain are at least aware of who this guy is. I think Marc Gasol even announced his move to the Lakers on his stream
He did. Ibai became the nexus between new and old generations. He is extremely well connected with both, this makes him one of the most valuable streamers in the world. He is a net win for anyone that wants to use him for any ad campaign.
If leeching had its peak, I think this is it.
Aguero shows up on his stream one day, and now he's dining with Messi on probably his last day in Barcelona.
I'm gonna be honest, I'm from Spain but I'm so out of touch with the Spanish speaking community when it comes to gaming streams or whatever that I believe I'm not based when I say that, he's played with a lot of football players thanks to quarantine and he has played with Agüero multiple times, whether it was Among us, Fall guys, FIFA, and some BR I can't remember. I know it's still crazy to go from playing with a football player online to have dinner with Messi, of course there has to be something else, or maybe they ended up becoming close who knows :/
Yeah same. I dont watch spanish streamers but he has played with many footballers over the last year or two. Aguero, Neymar, even played padel with Pique not so long ago.
Why doesn't this has more upvotes? It's literally the same as if xQc were on Messi's house. That'd have 100k at least. Ibai hoted the boxing event on may with over 1,5M viewers. He is top top, he has bring to twitch artists and personalities like Ed Sheraan or Ronaldinho for a casual interviews, averaged 100k viewers when among us meta, and more...
Anyway, English andys.
Exactly, I feel like only loremasters know wtf is going on here but "LULW ONLY DOWNVOTE CUS NOT ENGLISH HAHAWUT?!" Nah, not everyone knows these people...
It's one of the biggest streamers in twitch, meeting one of the best football players ever, to add to that Messi is in the middle of being transfered from FC Barcelona where he has been for 21 years
Why would it have more upvotes? This sub is typically English speaking and overwhelmingly American. Most of us have never heard of either one. It would be like going to a Spanish speaking forum and wonder why they never heard of trainwrecks or Asmondgold meeting the coach for the Patriots. Like why the fuck would they know that? It’s not a huge conspiracy, people just don’t know them.
he was a lol caster for the spanish league, got huge in the spanish lol comunity, started playing with big lol streamers and when youtubers made the swap to twitch, he was there for a lot of collabs, aguero started streaming around the time so ibai also played with him and made conections with a lot a soccer players, he even had the rights to stream gold cup on twitch
[Also the guy on this meme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3OLwCakCfM)
This comparison is nice to give some context to americans but in the rest of the world Messi and Barcelona are 1000 times bigger than Tom Brady and Patriots, so this streamer went to the dinner that most people in the world would love to just take a peek
NFL is mainly viewed in the US, so not as big of a deal. Maybe a better comparison (but still not even close to this) would be a more global sport like Basketball and if Stephen Curry left the Warriors.
Basketball is indeed a bigger sport worlwide than the NFL, but the vast majority of people don't have the slightest of an idea of who Stephen Curry is or what the Warriors are, and never heard those names, unless you follow basketball or watch too much sportscenter to end up watching an NBA clip.
Messi, in the other hand, is known all over the world by a much larger group of people, except in some random countries that hace no interest at all in football, wich is not the case for USA anymore. Most people in the world probably don't have any idea who Messi is, but it's very likely they have at least heard the name as long as football is a relevant sport where they live.
>Messi and Barcelona are 1000 times bigger than Tom Brady and Patriots
Messi is definitely bigger than Brady by a solid margin but it's not that huge of a gap, Brady is still in the area of "hundred millionaire megastar athlete."
I’m American but even I can acknowledge that Tom Brady is famous all over America and really nowhere else, Messi is famous all over the world, there is a pretty big gap. Money isn’t the discussion here, it’s about fame.
Though I will say that I don’t really understand the extent that some of these fans worship athletes. They’re humans that are good at sports, not the second coming of Christ. I fanboy with certain athletes of sports I watch or incredible actors, but I would never break down in tears over just seeing someone in person or devote my life to being noticed by them.
**Pokimane liked my tweet on 6/3/19**
I agree with other comments. I know Tol Brady by name only because I browse reddit, and some times people mention him because it's full of american users. I can guarantee 99.9%+ of the people outside of the US and Canada don't have any idea who Tom Brady is and never heard his name.
Soccer is just so massive everywhere in the World that even if you don't care about the sport, and don't know who the heck Messi is, it's very likely you have at the very least heard his name in the streets, TV, radio, a friend, etc. Maybe 95% at worst of the people in the world never heard the name "Messi", but there is a huuuuuge difference between 95% at worst and 99.9% at best.
Sorry if it is disrespectful or offensive to some people but I have honestly never heard of the Patriots or Brady & must people don't follow American Football (if that's where he's from). Comparing them based on wealth is fair but when you compare them in terms of following / how well they are recognised, they're nowhere near.
> This is like getting invited to Tom Brady's house for his farwell dinner when he left Patriots
That's actually a good analogy, obviously is Messi is way bigger than any other athlete in the world but your example is perfect for the NA redditors.

How did this man go from casting League to this
He's great at what he does, his YT is massive and he actually makes an effort to create content. His success is completely deserved
Translated the large amount of energy he brings, I think – and he hasn’t lost his casting chops either!
Connections upon connections upon connections. It's all possible because he is friends with Kun Aguero and obviously Aguero being friends with Messi.

He got a free license to show certain league games on twitch, which is kind of crazy on its own.
He bought the license for Copa America in Spain
thats a flex
*Piqué bought it
Could you explain what led to this? Not familiar with the streamer but this is awesome for him
Nobody TV in Spain bought the Copa America nationally so the price was "low". For that reason he partnered with Pique and his company Kosmos where Kosmos bought the rights, let Ibai stream the entire tournament in his channel and in exchange he had to promote Davis Cup (the tennis cup) which is also run by Kosmos.
