Spurs seem to back conte, and I think they are a team that is genuinely going to contend for the title this season.
Dumbest fucking comment I have read all year.... lol congrats lad.
...are you new to football? They scraped 4th and wouldn't have even managed that if not for Arsenal shitting the bed and us being knackered (and stealing a point at their place).
Conte's a good manger, he'll get them Top 4 again probably. But they're miles off an actual title challenge. Conte's useless in Europe too. I personally think the intention is Conte to set up the foundations, get them Top 4 again and then bounce off like he normally does next summer. Then they can bring someone in with good foundations to build on.
At the end of the season we will find out. Yeah conte has a bad record in Europe. But he has an excellent record domestically, winning with almost all the teams he has coached their respective country titles. So underestimating them lol. They defeated city and easily could have defeated liverpoolfc too. But people think they are no big deal. I think it's easier to downplay other team's achievements. Saying stuff like arsenal didn't perform and so on. I personally think the three big team's would be city liverpoolfc and Tottenham
Yeah it's just as easy to win the premier league with spurs as it is to win with Chelsea or to win in Italy with Juve and Inter. Top four if they are lucky
It's tough to be as consistent as we have for the past 5 years though, and you can't just do it in 8 months. Conte is good but I can't see that Spurs squad pushing for a title.
you must be new to football
Even if we sign Jude we’ll probably let him walk when he’s 24 and asks for better wages. Anything to preserve the wage structure
Lukaku taking the piss out of Chelsea is fucking hilarious
Automod keeps removing my link. Long story short, Lukaku said he’s been in contact with Inzaghi all season
The Ev losing their best player for peanuts is absolutely hilarious. I hate the diving bastard, but Richarlison is their only genuinely quality player. I mean, he wouldn't get in our team but he was slumming it at that dump. I hope Spurs know they've added another ego with Kane to the squad.
>they've added another ego
Conte will tame that pigeon, I don't really mind spurs etc if they won a trophy or something but am changing my mind as soon as he signs.
Bit of a random question but does anyone know how or if JH uses the Boston Globe for propaganda?
Not particularly. They lean heavily Democratic, and his wife Linda was a major Hillary supporter, but the paper has always been progressive in nature. They were one of the first to come out against Vietnam and were pro-Gay rights in the 70s and 80s. They're considered a paper of record, so normally stuff in there is fairly accurate.
Source: Family in Boston
I mean tbf just because they may support the dems, doesn't mean they're exempt from propaganda..
True, but I don't think there's much propaganda in it, really.
Does make you wonder why a billionaire wants to own a paper though
I have started running into people who are RW af but support Liverpool. When I ask them why they support a left wing club, they are like,"Bro I support Liverpool for sporting reasons not what it stands for."
I am very amused at that point in time and end the conversation there. Can't be bothered to deal with people suffering cognitive dissonance.
To clarify, i'm fairly left wing nowadays albeit not a socialist (although I originally leaned right)
However I can understand the logic and empathise with it myself. Most people (myself included) start supporting a football team as a kid. It isn't a conscious choice based on political stance; As a 3 year old it's either "my family supported Liverpool so I will too", "this looks cool, what team is this?", or "I like this shade of red".
Then you grow up and by the time you start forming deep, political opinions it's too late to just shed your ties to the team you've shared an emotional bond with for the last 10+ years. You can't just (as is commonly the response) "just fuck off and start supporting Chelsea instead"
For me it was the fascination with the colour red and the name Liverpool sounding cool. The culture of a club is an important influencer as you become more entrenched with the club. Clubs are an important part of the social fabric of society.
Liverpool had about 30% of the population that votes Tory. It’s lovely that Reddit is learning about the politics of the club but it’s not black and white and it’s a bit toxic.
It's 150,000 in a population of 1.5m (figures from last election for all Merseyside constituencies). It's about 10%. Not huge, really. Especially as that includes some places like Southport and St Helens which have a bigger Tory population.
10% of the population. Not 10% of voters. That’s not how you count things like that or you’ll find less than 50% vote Labour.
Merseyside elected a Tory MP. 1/15 but still.
Birkenhead was about 8k Tory votes to 24k Labour.
It’s far more than 10%.
Again, I have been supporting this club nigh on 19 years. Its not something new to me. An intensely RW person supporting an establishment with left wing views is laughable.
You’re supporting a representation of a real place in England, some of which is RW. It’s mostly LW but it’s not a monolith.
Plus can we even say the club itself is left wing these days in the classic sense? The majority of the supporters might be and we put our progressive PR but we are still owned by American billionaires and pay players millions a year to play for us.
I know it keeps us competing on the world stage but as you say it's not all as black and white as people would have you believe.
The fanbase 100% is, I’m in no way trying to argue otherwise and ultimately that’s the only non transient part of the club. It’s a very left wing club. But at the same time there’s a right wing protestant Christian orange order LFC fan lodge within 500m of the stadium and that’s cool.
My dad is one of them and Shankly is his sporting hero. He just says he can forgive his "misguided" political views and focus on what he did for us on the pitch.
Yeah it sucks but I've had so many arguments with him about it over the years without any budge on either side so I've just given up and let him crack on at this point.
Where the fuck are you finding RW people in the place you are? It's a deep blue state and city
Feels weird to see someone describe Liverpool as “deep blue” as a way of explaining that it isn’t right wing, because in England the Conservative party is blue, so blue is usually more associated with the right, and red with the left.
Mate none of the mods are from Liverpool, never assume they’re actually talking about the city.
Not talking about Liverpool
NRIs in the Bay <3 and a couple of people I watch football with in the city.
Maybe wishful thinking but the fact Dortmund has listed a price for Bellingham makes me feel they might be open to selling this summer
Imagine making a fail comp of a young player who plays for the club YOU support
Twitter is full of mutants man
The likes of Corbally and Laurie having a cult like fan base too on Twitter shows just how utterly empty some of these people are
Utd fans made daily fail comps for Bruno and Ronaldo lool
Who is it of? Jones?
Yeah. Bizzare behaviour
I already know who done it lol.
Her comps are quality but she has the biggest agenda towards Jones lol
Infuriates me. There's genuinely people on there that think Curtis is in the squad due to being a Scouser. It's so weird.
Goodbye Taki. YNWA. A true soldier of the reds. A scouse samurai. We’ll always have Leicester. Up the mighty red men.
I’ll have to buy a Monaco shirt now because I love him so much (originally said about Origi/Milan but sure)
Or I dunno just stick to my team
I’ll be following his career wherever he goes. Once a red always a red.
Taki, subs, league cup goals, smiles, despacito!
Managing tranmere rovers in fm who I just got promoted to the prem. Immediately got a message saying “Youth player poached by Everton”
Another reason to despise 🤣🤣
Glad we’re staying well away from Raphinha, the whole situation with his transfer seems like a mess at the moment
what happened now? thought he was going to chelsea?
Apparently his agent has travelled to Barcelona to try get a deal with them because both him and Raphinha want a deal with Barca, not Chelsea. But the problem is only Chelsea have struck a deal with Leeds, Arsenal are also waiting to make their next move too
His agent is Deco? Who has connected with both clubs?
Fish (y deal)
Using Chelsea as a catalyst to move to another team ha. Agent 101 behaviour, even if Chelsea get him sours the move surely 🤣
Bissouma cleared of allegations apparently. Shame we didn't take the risk, what a steal for 25m.
Meh, doesn't mean he's innocent.
Can’t believe we weren’t in for that price. It’s such a steal. He’d easily be 4th choice for us.
Fabinho backup and he's actually good going forwards as well. Solid player that we could have used.
Not sure who's downvoting you when it's 100% the truth. Would have filled the gap nicely until the supposed big signing next year. As it stands, our midfield is a glaring problem going into the season and could be a difference maker again.
Pry the same people who think Curtis is going to be foden.
Next summer is going to suck when we need a new RW, 2 or 3 midfielders and a possible situation at CB and in the back up GK department
Edit: people mad as hell
You're getting downvoted but I agree, with Salah and Kelleher leaving, Hendo, Thiago and Milner not getting any younger, we are putting a lot of hope into players like Jones, Elliott and Carvalho step up. I'm optimistic though, sure the club have other targets for next year!
Not sure spurs even took a big risk. They probably did their own analysis of the situation and determined he would probably be cleared
The wording of the deal said "subject to work permit". Cant remember who his international team is, but his work permit would have been reviewed for a sex offence too right? Maybe quite clear how they organised it.
I said this when he signed and majority didn't agreed with me. He was guilty until proven innocent judging by the replies.
I don't necessarily think the issue was that he was or wasn't guilty, moreso that the club is screwed if he *was* found guilty. And I guess they didn't want to risk it
Still a lot of chat about that, it's rather sad. If he's really innocent (which we should assume he is) he'll have that hanging over him his whole life. It's no small accusation.
>He was guilty until proven innocent judging by the replies.
This is how it works with the internet now
I really rate him, and at that price Spurs were clever to take the risk.
Would you say the same if he was found guilty?
It was clearly a calculated risk, and I would guess Levy had built in a failsafe/get out clause for part payment if convicted. As it stands he wasn't even charged.
Good luck chief! I'm also dating very sporadically so I know the feeling. Ask questions, listen, make her laugh. You'll smash it la.
Good luck though
Pics or you lie
YOU'RE gorgeous too, don't forget that
Ask questions and listen more than you talk, actually focusing and caring about they say with empathy. Has always worked for me. Good luck!
Good luck bro
I’m a 24 year old so I’ve not been through nearly the hurt some of you have. I’ve been reading Stevie’s book and that 13/14 season we all remember and hurt after watching how good we were and how hurtful it was to lose so cruelly.
I have to say, I’ve realised how awful I’ve been at time over the last 2/3 years when we’ve missed out on some trophies. Our season this year was incredible. If we had this season 10 years ago we’d be crying with joy. Let’s enjoy what we have under Jurgen and the fan base continuing to grow.
Come on Reds! #YNWA
09/10 Europa League semi
11/12 FA Cup
21/22 PL & CL
I dont care what anyone says. We have been through more hurt than other clubs.
For a big club especially. 08/09 and 13/14 broke hearts. Our last few seasons have had silverware though and so the heartbreak is lessened
08/09 was painful too. Its always too many draws with us
Fucking Macheda, the only notable thing he did in his career.
i'm fucking bored.
i beg you stay fit again next season thiago
Medical team has to work the same magic on him like they did with Joel and Naby.
All the Prem team’s strengthening their attack but that was never their problem. Chelsea lost their entire 3 at the back plus back up wing backs . Now looking towards koulibaly. Arsenal have Gabriel and Ben white and conte spurs can’t sit deep for long . We’re gonna run through em all
I was just thinking about contracts and realising that Ward has quite a bit on his plate.
As things stand 12 months from now we would be losing Milner, Ox, Firmino and Salah on free contracts. And by next summer Thiago, Gomez and Matip will have only 1 year left on their contracts. Trent, VVD and Jota will all have 2 years left on their contracts and getting them new deals will be towards the top of the priority list.
That's a lot of work to in regards to either getting new deals sorted or getting the best fee's for players that they think either won't sign a new deal or aren't worthy of getting a new deal.
According to Joyce, the club are already discussing new contracts with Gomez & Jota.
Milner leaving due to his age, Ox leaving unless he has a wonderful season and Salah because we just can't pay what he wants. Thiago, Matip, Trent, VVD and Jota full priorities.
Gomez and Firmino, mostly achievable if both willing to accept what Liverpool offers, no negotiations at all. The thing here is that I think that the next three transfer windows need and are going to be huge. This one is probably over for us, but next winter, 23/24 summer and 23/24 winter I'm sure we are going to see a completely new squad
We don’t buy in winter unless something big happens and our hand is forced.
Ox, Milner and Mo will probably all leave next summer. It’s been confirmed that we want to extend Gomez and Jota’s contracts so that will be done soon. I don’t see Trent wanting to leave and VVD can still retain his top level till his mid to late thirties so I expect both of them to get new contracts. Not sure what happens with Firmino and Thiago though, there’s been no talk of us offering Firmino a new contract but it’ll be unlikely that we let both Mo and Firmino go next summer. For Thiago I feel like we’ll offer him a 2 year extension
Ox is probably going, Milner shouldn't be difficult.
But the situations with Bobby, Mo, Thiago, Gomez, Matip, Trent, VVD and Jota are all complicated.
Good luck to the man
Why Bobby, Gomez, Matip, Trent, VVD and Jota are complicated? They seem to love the club and not asking for ridiculous wages.
Vvd and Trent can demand whatever they want, which is always tricky.
We need to decide if we want to extend Bobby, which will basically be down to how he does this season.
Matip will be a year older. I love him and he will probably extend but I can see the club going for a younger recruit.
Jota is probably straightforward tbh
Trent would be the hardest one I think, albeit I still think that obviously it happens.
24 years old and clearly world class so he can demand a large wage, plus his last renewal was apparently on something like £190k a week so he would probably be asking to be the best paid player in the squad at that point at somewhere in the region of £240k-£250k a week type deal.
At that point next year Henderson will be 33 and have 2 years left on his contract also, I'd imagine we'd been grooming Trent for the captaincy and having Henderson play less anyway due to his age and his injury record.
Ox and Milner pretty much will be let go. I still believe Salah will sign. I know I know.
JOTA Trent VVD will all get new contracts and will be pretty much happy to sign. I think Bobby will be happy if offered a contract that reflects a lesser role . Same for matip . Gomez I’m unsure of , we would really need to bump his minutes this year to convince him and I think with the big year Konate had and bringing Ramsay to deputize TAA we will see more of him . Thiago is a toss up . Unless he has a really fit year it may be time to replace him . Sad because he’s my favorite player ( not named Firmino)
Idk why but us signing Nunez for €100 million still sounds like a rumour to me. I think it’ll hit me that we’ve actually signed him when he plays his first game for us
it's still 85 million
It’s €100 million total if all add ons are achieved
Euros vs. pounds, €100mn total with add-ons reported
How much you reckon we'll get for Neco? Most clubs seem to be balking at the £15m pricetag we've put on him but historically we've done very well from selling players like him at prices well above their market value (Brewster, Solanke, Ibe, Ward etc)
I think we will get the £15m, Maybe £12m + £3m or something but I think we will get the full amount.
15m is very reasonable for him imo and I reckon we’ll get it
Could see a comprise of something like £10m +£2m in add on's if we still struggle to get suitors at a £15m price tag. I don't think we will want to loan him again either now with Ramsay here, selling him is in both parties best interests.
anyone had experience with The Crowne Plaza hospitality tickets? what its like, or travel to the stadium ect. probably going to book tickets for me and my Dad as a surprise but looking for thoughts first if possible
Hmm Dortmund put a price on Bellingham.. that’s progress if you ask me. Would love it if we signed him this summer, and if we dont, why not sign Barella now and him next. That could be realistic and incredible
I don’t see Barella leaving Inter unless he’s forced out of the club
How would it be realistic?
Barella has a contract until 2026 with no release clause. You’re talking close to 200m for both him and Bellingham
We’ve made and will make enough to afford that. Darwin’s fee is almost being covered by a few departures this summer. Other clubs are spending tons without even advancing in tournaments. We made it to the CL final again, took the PL to the wire and won two cups. And not just referring to the oil clubs. Also next summer I see quite a few departing, so it’ll make more sense then.
I’d be absolutely shocked if Liverpool got both of them. Can’t see it happening at all
I think the club knew and are working on it...that's why they pushed the 'willing' to wait for next summer narrative, to try and lower Dortmund's price.
We may have different definitions of realistic
Ugh Chelsh** signed Raphinha?
No they haven't. They might, but they haven't yet.
Let them, will only complicate things for them imo
United supporters are so fucking hilarious thinking Ten Hag is some sort of football messiah when in reality he has a résumé that makes Brendan Rodgers look like Ancelotti.
Worth noting that his Ajax team, while coached by Ten Hag, was built by Overmars and Van der Sar and not Ten Hag. United's team is being built by accountants and investment bankers put into Football positions.
Well it's not like that hasn't been working for them so far. I've been enjoying their work for years
United in general are hilarious when they get a new manager. They're so desperate to recreate Fergie that new managers get showered with praise for doing basic things like requesting that players be at training at 9am.
They'll probably be back eventually but long may their banter era continue
Only manager who could have brought them back would have been Klopp.
But he's at the best team in the world and knows it. United never had a chance. Think his wife said to go to Liverpool as well.
In fairness I think Pep would also have had a good crack. Ultimately the biggest barrier to them doing well has been their garbage transfers though, and no matter how good your manager is they can't fix that.
Making a run to CL semis in this era with Ajax while beating Madrid and Juve puts ETH above Rodgers unequivocally. And that was after a run to EL finals the season before, with a really young squad. Rodgers and his record in Europe is tragic.
Rodgers has always been gash in Europe that's for sure, but I don't think TH is proven in Europe by any means - seems to have hit a stroke of luck. I mean look at Poch, got to a CL final and still isn't a convincing manager if you ask me
>[Echo] Pep Lijnders has arrived back to work early to watch the academy this week. He is deciding which youngsters will be joining Jürgen Klopp’s pre season squad for the upcoming schedule starting next week.
Excited for the new season!
Who do you think will make it?
But seriously, I think Kaide Gordon will get another nod along with some of the usual names we've seen. If there's anybody new included that'd be great too
Who are the usual names? Beck and Clarkson n that?
United keep chasing players that do not want to move to them. First it was with Nunez and now De Jong does not even want to move to them. I honestly feel sorry for them
Eh theyll end up with him. They pay a shit ton of money. If he gets any ounce of motivation, itll pay off since hes a really good player. What irks me the most is being able to snatch a player off them (Darwin doesnt count as much as we offered way more possibly to sign him, or he prob never even considered them) and not doing so. Like we did with Diaz and Tottenham. I want us to do that more often, flex our current status
I don't it's fucking hysterical
60 g/a in 52 games for Salah in his first season is just ridiculous, closet to a Messi season any PL player has ever had
That Salah first season was incredible however the "closest to Messi" season that I've seen is still Suarez's 2013/14 season. 50 g/a in 37 games (48 g/a in 33 league games) without penalties. Single most dominant season I've ever seen in the PL.
That would mean Suárez had 17 assists in the league, which he didn’t. Gerrard got the most PL assists that season with 13.
Suarez 13/14 is the best non Ronaldo/Messi season of this era.
It’s actually Suarez 15-16, where he put up 85 non penalty goals & assists
Barca Suarez was amazing but I think what he did with our mediocre side was far more crazy than doing it with a Messi and Neymar led Barca side.
In 15/16 he had pretty much double the numbers he did in 13/14 and was the best player on the Barca team / joint with Messi. He scored 14 goals in 5 games to win the league for Barca after Madrid tied them on points.
tbf Salah only scored 1 pen that full season
Without penalties and had a late start because of that red card didn't he? Didn't slow him down
Came back even better.
He was hungry to prove the doubters wrong
De jong has refused a move to united according to rumours 😂😂
Every day he refuses a move, then he's open to a move, then he wants to stay and fight for his place in Barcelona, then he's convinced by the United project... literally within hours of each other. Don't listen to rumours.
I actually dont like that. United will stay shit for the foreseeable future. They are rotten to the core. But Barca couldve used that cash to buy B.Silva.
Lol this is my view too
I want bernado gone lmao
Get him outta there asap lol Not only is he an absolute rat but hes also literallty the perfect Pep player.
Barca has always been his dream move. He seems very hesitant over United in general so even if he ends up there you’d question whether his heart is really in it. Top player but wouldn’t surprise me at all if United find a way to fuck it up as usual
I agree with this - he seems to be getting dragged there kicking and screaming and those transfers are more likely to end up like a Di Maria than anything else.
I think most players are hesitant of United at this point, it's such a toxic environment for a player of any ability.
120m euro to sign Bellingham this summer according to sports bild. Will it be a lot cheaper next summer? I doubt it personally
Interesting to see what happens
> 120m euro to sign Bellingham this summer according to sports bild.
I don't think they ever said this summer, that's the price they're hoping to get next year.
I doubt we’ll sign him at all.
I wish a Keita style deal was on the cards. Buy now, but they can hold onto him another season.
Will only go up I feel especially with his progression and if he has a good World Cup, would rather we sign him or anybody now to be honest as we can’t be going into this season with the same midfield as last personally
It will definitely go up base on his progression and potential bidding war next summer.
The fee now if accurate would be worth it just for the amount of service/longevity for more than 10+ years if everything goes to plan.
Sancho was reported the same price United got him for far less.
We get player agreement we could negotiate the price tag down.
I don’t see him as a realistic option. I think Liverpool should look elsewhere
We've just agreed to a deal up to 100m euros for Nunez, why would 120 for Bellingham not be realistic?
Totally different markets. The market for strikers is so much worse than midfielders. So many quality young midfielders coming up while there seems to be no strikers.
that makes no sense, that would mean strikers cost more
Because there’s a huge demand in a market where there’s no supply. This is the most basic economics ffs
bro re-read what you said
I did and it doesn’t change anything. There’s practically no world class strikers available while there’s multiple midfielders. That makes Bellingham’s price absurd when there’s cheaper alternatives. That wasn’t the case for Nuñes
oh my christ your post history
decided to have a look at his comment history after you flagged this up and as well as the obsession with a certain celebrity, he's also out here making comments how he feels that 'arsenal is the coolest club in the premier league' and other random shit that's a bit fucking weird
So you are clueless about economics so you resort to this lmao. Pathetic
Wouldn't that work in our favour though? Surely a lack of options means the price is higher? And vice versa
Not if Dortmund won’t budge on their price. They decide because they’re are selling club, but due to the fact that there’s currently a bunch of different talented midfielders, Liverpool could look elsewhere for a cheaper price
I think the only way they justify it is that original transfer fee could be spread over however long he’s here which could be like 15 years lol.
just a few more days until we see darwin fucking nunez in training
Darwin is doing what to Nunez.
lol we're at least a couple of weeks away, not days
Newcastle sleeves sponsor is 7.5m from a middle Eastern brand. West ham and Leicester get 500k with the deal they have. The league will slowly die and clubs will struggle to compete with all these billionaires.
FFP is a joke, it is not even a funny loophole it is a cheat. Football is already getting ridiculous with the money and the amount fans have to pay. Will enjoy Klopp as much as I can afterwards the league will be a shitshow.
I think football has been ridiculous for a long time and it's kind of sad to think about TBH.
If it wasn't for Liverpool I doubt I would be watching any more
Soon we will have the majority of the clubs in the league owned by middle eastern countries. It's an easy scheme for them really, they can wash unreal amounts of cash through the EPL.
Yeah when leagues other than EPL have only one or two dominant teams, you know the sport is fucked.
The PL league is going that way and people keep trying to deny it City have won the last 4/5 titles and we are the only team that are even close to being able to compete with them.
People still laugh at us because we didn't win the league. What they forgot was that we're NOT buying players left and right regardless of the price tag. We're actually maintaining a rather healthy balance sheet.
I mean I don't really like it because we're selling a lot of players, but that's the way a business is supposed to be run. Mancity is just a toy for fucking oil hoarders. And they're supporting it just because they want to spite us.
>Newcastle sleeves sponsor is 7.5m from a middle Eastern brand. West ham and Leicester get 500k with the deal they have
Partially owned by PIF but it's based in a different country.
> The league will slowly die and clubs will struggle to compete with all these billionaires
I mean, we're well past that point. Even if you ignore state-backed clubs, roughly all the major teams have billionaire owners and you have midtable clubs outspending UCL regulars from other leagues.
FFP is a farce, it was meant to preserve the status quo of the European Elite but as always, there are workarounds or teams just brute-forcing their way and UEFA can do nothing about it. If they really want to bring parity, they need to introduce a lot more regulations protecting smaller clubs and clubs' ability to hold on to players, salary and wage caps etc which likely won't be endorsed by all the elite clubs.
Really wanna see musialowski get a call up for some cup games this season. Kid is raw but hes talented. Some first team action allowing him to showcase himself would suprise a lot of people
I thought that was a mix of Musiala and Lewandowski
He's a highlight reel player, Klopp and the rest of the staff obviously thinks he has to work on parts of his game before he's ready to touch the first team squad, might get a couple of friendlies if he's lucky tho
He is quite a ways away…got to start being a regular for the 21’s, first
