doesn't this post belong more on noncredibledefence?

Temporary_Mali_8283

There's a diff?

VictoryForCake

CredibleDefense has no posts, LessCredibleDefense has some posts of variable quality, NonCredibleDefense has many posts of absolutely no quality. It is also a cesspit.

ChineseMaple

Moses left us and went to NCD and r China it seems, so that's a definite indictator of quality

Speedster202

Good riddance. I admire his passion but Moses refuses to listen to anyone who doesn’t say “US will curb stomp Chynuh they stand no chance” and would then call you a CCP shill for disagreeing. Utterly childish behavior.

ChineseMaple

He's not weird he just fantasizes about bombing hundreds of millions of weak idiotic brainwashed Chinese to rubble

the-prodigal-sun

I liked Moses, his posts were low quality but entertaining in a special way. /u/andyh120d posts are similar in being low-effort and low-iq, but it’s just shit thrown at the wall by a bored child

Strontium_frog

Moses is gone?! Damn come back Moses, all is forgiven.

OGRESHAVELAYERz

He has to be with his people. Just be grateful that he was with us for the time that he was.

Strontium_frog

I kinda thought I was his kinda people .. I just stick around here because I'm a masochist.

ChineseMaple

Damn you just parasocialed yourself with Moses

Temporary_Mali_8283

>~~masochist~~ Musachist FTFY (Musa is Arabic version of Moses)

AQ5SQ

Was he banned?

Unlucky_Disaster_195

CredibleDefense is extremely boring

Strontium_frog

I luvs me a good cesspit.. The most fragrant roses grow from such.

drunkmuffalo

lol this is too funny, the Chinese should paint a big troll face on the balloon, missed opportunity here

idontrespectyou345

Its more fun to see how fried they can get the electonics with their EW planes. It'll come down in its own soon enough.

AngryUrbie

Oh that's actually an interesting point - I'd considered the US collecting intel from the balloon point of view in terms of why it hadn't been shot down, and considered that EW would be used to try stopping it transferring data, but didn't consider less direct methods. It would make a ton of sense to try to recover the balloon intact by disabling the electronics, I don't doubt the US has the capability, and they'd probably keep it pretty quiet until they had the balloon down and locked away in a hangar.

adminPASSW0RD

I don't think it's any different than plastic waste floating in the ocean. But Republicans clearly see this as a good opportunity to attack the Biden administration.

helpless_rocks

This is what we've waited for, this is it men, this is war!

implicitpharmakoi

So, an SR-71 has an RCS of like, 0.5m^2 or so, could we bring one back into service and fly it over? Just for the NCD of it all?

[deleted]

thefunni2738

You lack imagination, tie the balloon to a US space force satellite all the way up in space using a piece of string and flex tape. The average satellite travels at 17,000 miles per hour, the SR-71 at a measly 2200 (snail's pace lmao). Using this technique, we can return the balloon to Beijing in under an hour.

OGRESHAVELAYERz

when did it become a PLA balloon?

IlluminatedPickle

When they admitted it was theirs. God damn it's hilarious what gets downvoted here.

Strontium_frog

..but *an accident* they stressed..

IlluminatedPickle

I believe that about as much as the next "out of control weather balloon" story.

thefunni2738

The balloon has the ability to maneuver, somehow the balloon drifted all the way to Montana without anyone realizing? At any point it could have floated back to China or other areas it was supposed to be.

AllCommiesRFascists

Anything that barely portrays China negatively will get downvoted here

jaunesolo81829

They’re saying that they did

Your source is "some Montanan saw a smoke trail" bud. Most people would disbelieve that considering that everyone else is reporting the opposite.

saucerwizard

This is why we need 120mm AAA.

SmokeyUnicycle

Ah yes that definitely has a range of 120k feet

smaug13

The US is sorely lacking in balloon capabilities. They clearly need to develop fighter balloons and need them yesterday, and cannot allow the Chinese to retain this upper atmosphere superiority!

KosherNazi

The balloon gap must not be allowed to widen!

Macketter

The balloon gap must not be allowed to balloon! 🎈

saucerwizard

Turns out I’m 60k short. I need a ouija board line to Gerald Bull stat.

SmokeyUnicycle

[Either that or contact boeing](https://defence-blog.com/boeing-nammo-successfully-test-new-ramjet-powered-artillery-shell/#:~:text=Ramjet%20155%20uses%20an%20engine,in%20L39%20and%20L58%20cannons.)

saucerwizard

Roll out the General Atomics railgun and punch some holes in the sucker. (This would be great PR for GA I’m just saying. )

MichaelEmouse

That's why you mount it on a plane, avoiding the greater atmospheric density at low altitude gives you much increased range/ceiling. I call it airborne anti-air artillery or AAAA.

TheFlawlessCassandra

Put it on a drone and then it's autonomous airborne anti-air artillery, AAAAA

DecentlySizedPotato

I wonder if you could get up there with a sabot shell... I say let's make some anti-balloon gun, a 150 mm L/55 gun firing long rod sabot with a very small amount of explosive filler so it actually does damage. It will be extremely expensive and kinda pointless but it might work.

Azarka

Half the people saying its a bad idea to shoot the balloon down is just echoing the stance of the government anyway. They would switch their stance in a heartbeat if Biden decided to shoot it down.

andyh120d

It's in Montana that's where our Silos are. Knock it out of the sky

Plump_Apparatus

It's where silos have been for the last 60 years. The long/lat for them are [literally a wiki list](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/341st_Missile_Wing_LGM-30_Minuteman_missile_launch_sites). [We can literally look a them in google earth](https://i.imgur.com/DaRZVB4.jpg). Everyone knows they're there, and frankly, that's the fuckin' point.

Unlucky_Disaster_195

This is what happened

[deleted]

The only proportional response is for US to fly a huge Winnie the Pooh balloon across China

No-Tip3419

world troll war 1

TGlam

Inb4 new 57 billion dollars project on new high-altitude interceptors, 6 billions new defense contract rewarded to some god-knows-who shell company on new balloon burning laser arms, 15% home defense budget boost, fist fight in congress, impeaching Biden for mishandling the balloon, The Balloon Gate. Before too soon the Chinese would have done more damage by a single balloon than the whole KGB was able to do throughout the whole Cold War.

AnswerLopsided2361

It was operating at roughly sixty thousand feet. Pretty much any aircraft armed with an AMRAAM could kill it. Which just happened about ten minutes ago off South Carolina.

WillitsThrockmorton

Flair granted

e30jawn

Lmao

AbWarriorG

Alright so hopefully someone answers... This thing is clearly a target for a high-altitude interceptor especially if it goes up above 60,000 feet... why didn't the US develop such a plane like the Mig-31 Foxhound? No need for it until now?

HaveBlue77

The US did develop the XF-108. It never reached service though, ICBM's made expensive interceptors moot. The USSR kept them too cover huge distances quickly, then swat cruise missiles and pesky blackbirds.

sublurkerrr

F-22 can easily intercept with it's 65,000 foot flight ceiling. Technically, the F-22 wouldn't need to get that close to fire an AMRAAM at it.

ynnus

Wouldn’t an AMRAAM be overkill? I’m still trying to figure out why a single bullet popping the balloon wouldn’t get the job done.

sublurkerrr

Yes, but using the cannon requires getting much closer and riskier for the plane. I wonder if the balloon is warm enough for an AIM-9 Sidewinder kill.

sirernestshackleton

Didn't work last time >Jet fighters trying to bring the balloon down fired more than 1,000 rounds into it Thursday, but it remained aloft. The air force hopes the now-leaking balloon will eventually come down. https://apnews.com/article/268893fddde785d029d5a51b136951eb
