Anyone ever skipped jury duty in Clark County?

Anyone ever skipped jury duty in Clark County?

If you fail to appear for jury duty you will be summoned to appear in court to explain why you didn’t show up for jury duty. If you also don’t go to court or don’t have a good reason for missing jury duty then the judge can fine you up to $1000. And up to 3 days in jail.

andrewcrc

Don't skip, especially if you've already reached out and tried to get out of it. I had it earlier this year but the trial was while I had to travel for work. I called to let them know but they said I still needed to come in. After all the introductions, I showed them my plane tickets on my phone with the dates and they let me leave. As another mentioned, they seem to be cracking down on people trying to come up with excuses or getting out of it. Lots of people tried and the judge didn't care. Many tried "I don't speak English" but responded and obviously understood everything the judge asked. I felt bad for those that were legit.

Jury duty is an important part of our duties as a citizen in our society. It means that there’s going to be more variety of people as jurors, fresh thoughts, actively engaging. Hopefully you won’t ever need to be on the other end and want people who understand what you’re going through to help reach your verdict.

idreamofdeathsquads

as a private citizen i have absolutely no duty or obligation to the 30 million or so strangers that populate this doomed nation state. to say otherwise is simply taking the position as an arbiter of how i can spend what little time i have left alive, and in a sensible world would get you laughed atcand patted on the head like a naive teenage ideologue.

Nova225

On the contrary, as a citizen of the US you have multiple obligations. That's what being a citizen means. Whether you agree with it or not is a moot point. Welcome to the real world.

idreamofdeathsquads

what obligation do i have to you, stranger?

Kealle89

Do you know what the 6th amendment is?

daily_badger

Don't waste your time on this an-cap loser. Honestly, they're worse than those sovereign citizen jokers.

idreamofdeathsquads

ya, i know right? cuz authoritarian collectivism is for winners. its always worked out so well for everyone.

daily_badger

What are you on about? Where do you get this authoritarian bs from? I don't espouse authoritarianism, I just think that people who espouse anarchist capitalism are just market fan boys who think they'll be part of the overclass.

idreamofdeathsquads

how do you support a planned economy without being authoritarian? edit: scratch that. i dont wanna talk to someone whos opening interjection was a personal attack instead of addressing what i said. go fuck yourself

idreamofdeathsquads

yes. it has absolutely nothing to do with any kind of social burden or citizens duty.

BinkPD

It’s turds like this that use the most services provided by the state by somehow think they are free. Plus they will never leave because deep down they know they are cowards and could never survive on their own. Otherwise they would have packed up and moved to another state or country long ago. Be quite turd or move along….

idreamofdeathsquads

all that internet tough guy name calling and not once did you manage to explain to me exactly what service i owe you, angry stranger.

BinkPD

You owe every service we demand from that is written in law, mandate or legislation. It’s called being a citizen. If you don’t like it, leave. But don’t walk on our sidewalks, drive on roads, see by our electricity or be protected by our laws on your way out. You are a service, money sucking turd. And name the time and place. I have spent a life time putting turds like you in their place. Both on and off the job.

idreamofdeathsquads

so to you people are nothing but tax cattle. sounds about right. just noticed the pd in ur name. id feel that way too if my whole life had been a metaphorical extension cord plugged into itself. without my taxes you literally could not survive. me n you aint the same. and ill save this convo for the next time in back home. just leave your fuckin gang out of it.

BinkPD

Turds like you never have paid taxes. Just suck off the rest of people. And without us you would be crying in a ball because you have never stood up for yourself or others. Like I said princess, name time and place. But no backing down when face to face.

idreamofdeathsquads

if i could post a pic of my gross vs net from last week youd just say, fuck dude. that sucks. you really should stop making assumptions, you dont know shit about me. i however can infer that you are or were a cop. which brings to mind an [interesting fact](https://abcnews.go.com/US/court-oks-barring-high-iqs-cops/story?id=95836) that might explain your responses.

BinkPD

Sadly you don’t use a VPN. So I know everything about you. I strongly suggest you go away.

idreamofdeathsquads

in fact you got me nervous cop. ima go ahead and hit up sherrif lombardos office with this whole thing.

idreamofdeathsquads

is that an online threat to my personal safety, mixed with an admission to illegally hacking my personal information? thats awesome. i strongly suggest you eat a fat dick, fuckin pig. before i link this shit to the fuckin fbi.

btickles

Its your civic duty. If u were ever involved in being on put on trial, would you want a jury who took it serious or one that was too stupid to get out of it?

Moffwt

Why would a jury prosecute someone if they're innocent? The jury's job is to give a fair and honest verdict, not to prosecute.

btickles

Right. Why this needs to be explained to someone is beyond me.

VegasBeard

Because some people are just “thick” and don’t get it….

btickles

Their attitude should change to really want to be there. Your attitude should absolutely change as a jury is not there to “help prosecute other citizens” but rather to keep the state from becoming completely tyrannical in courts.

btickles

And what? Ur story proves my point. Bozos who really didnt want to be there or take it serious were jurors. And whats the better option? Have a judge who is employed by the same organization thats pressing charges against u to decide your fate. Bad idea

VegasBeard

It’s our “civic duty” to help prosecute other citizens …. Great 👍🏼 It’s our “civic duty” to help people if they are innocent …. Great 👍🏼

VegasBeard

Don’t show up and they’ll put out a warrant for your arrest….. also if you call the automated line after 6 pm the day before good chance you won’t get picked and your duty is done.

lasvegashomo

I mean it is illegal to skip it. I went once and they didn’t need me so they excused me. Maybe you’ll be so lucky. But man the best part was hearing everyone excuses trying to get out of it. Majority got shut down by the judge 😂

New_Rip_3957

never call back

BEniceBAGECKA

People acting like employers are understanding of this in shift work jobs 😂 yeah take of for that this week see if you’re on the schedule next…

relmah

Exactly and court only pays you like $30 for the day.

BEniceBAGECKA

But it’s an “honor” dude… smh

PoliticalDestruction

Just show up few minutes late and they will excuse you. If you're asked to show up, you have to show up, but at least if you show up late and they excuse you, you don't have to waste a whole day.

qwikhnds

They don't ask.

Tesla369Universe

Karma is a bitch. I promise you if you don’t show some integrity by at least showing up -life will school you and flip the script on you. You will have to rely on a jury at some point down the road or something similar to instill some empathy in you for this current situation. Life is brutal like that. It’s my belief that with heightened awareness we are able to see how our actions/choices impact others firsthand, at some point. Ya jury duty doesn’t pay much and huge inconvenience- I had before and it was disruptive to my work schedule. I was let go after a week cuz I wasn’t needed.

StartingOver702

I would never ever do that. It's my honor to serve the fine people of this county. I did hear from a friend that nothing happens if you don't show, but I wouldn't know because I show up for every jury duty on time and enthusiastic.

idreamofdeathsquads

two simple words that are every citizens duty to understand, and if you say em during jury duty summons you will instantly be released. jury. nullification.

sokali4nia

Judges have started cracking down on people saying things just to get excused. I was called in a courtroom when questioning of jurors was going on and one guy just started saying stuff to get excused and the judge stopped him short and said if he didn't take it seriously he was finding him in contempt and he could spend the rest of the day in a cell instead of a jury box and that the same went for everyone else there.

idreamofdeathsquads

its not just to get out of jury. you have the legal right to say not guilty if you disagree with the existence of the law that was allegedly broken. if you explain that given the right circumstances you absolutely would nullify the jury, chances are they will send you on your way. and you cannot be punished because jury nullification is legal.

luvs2spooge187

People hated him, for he spoke the truth.

sokali4nia

You can say not guilty, but can't decide that until after the 2 sides have presented their cases. And it's a given that EVERYONE is supposed to vote not guilty in the "right circumstances" because those circumstances are when the person is actually not guilty. So the only reason to say that upfront is that you Re trying to get out of jury duty.

idreamofdeathsquads

no. jury nullification is like possession of drugs and i dont believe that should be illegal, it is my right to represent that. you can literally say on day one, i oppose this laws existence and will absolutely let the accused walk. that is legal. its called jury nullification.

sokali4nia

You can make that decision, but still have to listen to the 2 sides. And then all that happens is likely another trial that the defendant has to pay their attorney for, unless it's free, and if they really did break the law they could be found guilty then after having spent even more money. And this scenario is even more likely if you are the only holdout, unless the person decides to take a plea agreement. But it's not necessarily doing anyone any good, except for maybe the defense attorney.

idreamofdeathsquads

point is most people dont know jury nullification exists and its the last thing a da wants being discussed among jurors. its been used effectively since the creation if the united states. its possibly the most important form of protest a private citizen can issue

sokali4nia

And if you truly believed in it and wanted to do that, you wouldn't be saying it before the trial to attempt to get kicked off. You would make yourself seem like the perfect juror and then go that route at verdict time.

idreamofdeathsquads

could be both. could firmly believe in nullification and also not agree with the states ability to force my participation in their court processes. a simple, be aware before you force this on me, that im a minarchist who will use jury nullification as a weapon against this court if i feel the accused is being charged with a victimless crime, among other reasons.
