After listening to a few pods today I had a little look through the Reddit and it seems a lot of you hate the lad's music taste so I'm intrigued,
What is your favourite artist/band and why?
I'll probably get some backlash but I'll start: Coldplay, huge fan of what they stand for and they're undoubtedly one of the biggest bands of not the biggest of the last 30 years, across several genres too.
Their live shows also slap hard.

Oasis & blink 182
Love Oasis, but more of their well known stuff so would call myself a fan as such. What blink song would you recommend to someone?
Anything off the self titled album, I feel they went a bit off after that
Nah, Neighborhoods is some of their best work. They fell off after Tom left but now he’s back.
Their self titled album is incredible, I’d recommend listening to that in full. My favourite song is Stockholm Syndrome but I’d also recommend After midnight.
I’ve got a few. I adore Wolf Alice, even have a tattoo. I also love Paramore. If you don’t mind artists as well then I gotta say Fiona Apple, Declan McKenna, Kate Bush and Billie Eilish are other favourites :)
I do love a bit of Declan!
Wolf Alice❤️
My chemical romance. Insert funny emo joke here. I’ve got like 3 tattoos from their album artworks, loved them since I was 11 The cure is also a very very close second
I love Friday I'm in Love, very basic I know!
Basic but still good
My Chem are the best🙌 Saw them twice last year and it was incredible!
YES!!! I went to the second Milton Keynes show and almost got stuck there after the gig lmao
Me too!!! Then ended up at Cardiff too, I hope this tour isn't their last😭
[Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn](https://youtu.be/ElhtPaTHhG4) are the big one for me at the moment. Imagine a modern version of The Streets mixed with someone like Loyle Carner and you’ve got FS&HG. LastFM*says I’ve listened to their songs 1,315 times in the last 12 months 🤣I’m seeing them live in a couple of weeks and honestly can’t wait. [CASisDead](https://youtu.be/jP6B45kZ_Mw) is probably my favourite though (username checks out.) He hardly releases music which makes me sad but when he does it’s always sublime. He makes a lot of weird 80s synth styled hip-hop and stuff like that. Proper unique artist who I love dearly. *LastFM also has The Streets & Kanye West as my top two artists ever which is probably spot on.
It’s not often you see another Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn fan, what’s your favourite track by them?
Yesss, definitely expected to be the only one🫶🏻 I’d honestly struggle to pick one but Save My Soul, Adult Workers & Don’t Do Drugs are all up there. Being from the same area as them means Fatboy’s Cafe really hits home too. You?
Yes to both of these!!!! I've recently found FS&HG and I'm loving them, use their instrumentals for yoga haha And cas!!!! Love him soo much and love how mysterious he is too. Pat Earrings is on my top 5 favourite songs, always one me and my friend blast at full volume on a road trip, night time motorway vibes. Some of his lyrics are so savage but I love it!
I’d have never guessed there was another person who loved both of them on here. Legend 🫶🏻 Yeah, I can imagine their instrumentals being perfect for yoga 🤣 Handle With Care is definitely an album I put on when I’ve had a shitty day and just need to unwind. I honestly think Harvey is one of the best producers in the country, so underrated! I could honestly natter on forever about Cas and all the theories about who is he and why he’s like he is hahaha. Pat Earrings is amazing but I think my favourite thing he’s done is [Commercial 2](https://youtu.be/P2j0tBjixYg). Honestly who knew 80s’ synth wave and rapping about dealing drugs was the best combination ever.
Yeah for sure, I can't believe I've only known about them for a few months! Gotta love Spotify bringing the goods. Oh same I'm dying to know if he looks how I think based on his voice, and what a life he's had that's inspired his music. Ahaha it's mad, the genre meshing is next level. Idk if Nigella Lawson would appreciate her features in some of his lyrics tho but then she's pretty wild herself I imagine
Cas is the goat
Oh yes, Frankie Stew superiority. Got a LC tattoo recently. Love them
My Chemical Romance, Kings of Leon and Biffy Clyro! But I'll listen to everything and anything 🤷🏻♀️
If you had to pick one...
Probably MCR for the nostalgia! But Biffy was my fave live
The smiths!
fontaines dc
Boys in the better land
Biffy clyro
YESSS BIFFY ARE SICK!!!!! I got to see them in Leeds last year they were great
I haven't heard of them, what song would you recommend to a first time listener
Stevie would hate me but my favourite band are the 1975
Same I’m already booked to see them for a fourth time this year and have seen them about eight times already ahhahaha
Same I’m already booked to see them for a fourth time this year and have seen them about eight times already ahhahaha
My second favourite!!! I'm going to see them at R1 Dundee and am buzzing
Me toooo! The best ❤️
same !!
Deftones, and I’m not one of these tiktok pretenders I just love me some deftones 😂
Haven't heard of them, what song would you recommend?
Kimdracula is my favourite but gauze, rx queen and entombed are very good aswell
Found Beans On Toast last year about the same time as I found the pod. Seen him live 3 times since and them gigs put me on to Gaz Brookfield, Armoured Man, Will Varley, Guise. Completely changed my music taste than from before 😂😂
Makes me happy to find someone else who likes Gaz Brookfield!! I do like Beans, but every time I've seen him, he's somehow forgot the lyrics to his own songs a number of times, funny when it first happens, but it gets a bit old.
muse and the warning
Muse are decent!
Radiohead because I’m admittedly pretentious, also do love a bit Weezer like Robbie
I've never actually listened to much Radiohead, which songs would you recommend?
[Jigsaw Falling Into Place](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoLJJRIWCLU) is always the first Radiohead song I recommend to people, defo give the full In Rainbows album a listen though. Best album of all time imo.
It’s pretty experimental and not entirely representative of the rest of their stuff, but i’d start with giving Kid A a listen, which in my opinion is one of the greatest albums of all time. Aside from that id probably just give their first record Pablo Honey a go and work from there!
I really like Dave, gutted he didn't want to come on in the end!
Same here man, how do you know that he didn't want to come on the pod?
They mentioned it on an episode, he was meant to come on as they were both signed to Spotify
What's your favourite Dave song?
Hard to pick one, it usually changes weekly, right now I'm putting Mercury on repeat
Nothing but thieves 👏🏻 so many good songs and great singer
The 1975- (Stevie defo disagrees but eh no music is for everyone I guess), Courteeners, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Stone Roses, Sam Fender, Pale Waves and Taylor Swift (one of these is not like the other I know)
Being from Newcastle I love Sam Fender! 1975 are my second favourite too, also love Catfish. Solid taste!
Sam Fender is great. Gets flack for being a bit poppy but at the end of the day, writing a track and album like Seventeen Going Under isn't easy.
I'm not sure whether Stevie has ever said the 1975s music is shit ( I could be wrong) he just hates Matty Healy which is understandable
i am a 1975 lover and a matty healy hater, there’s quite a few of us i think but who knows if stevie cares enough to consider their music separately to matty as a person lol
With Coldplay as your favourite you must’ve loved Jaack’s slip-up on the coloured badger question! I’m a huge death metal/hardcore/heavy music fan, also listen to 100 gecs, some indie and pop punk!
A classic 😂 [Found the video here](https://youtu.be/w0RUKzjvdCc)
Black Sabbath 🤘
Beartooth, I love metalcore and every song they've made is essentially putting my depression into words I can't express. I'm not suffering anymore but the songs are so cathartic. There's bouncy metal and heavier stuff in there, I just love them. And it's funny because the first time I heard them I thought they were cringe. The below album is my favourite and disease is next but for anyone into metalcore I recommend their whole catalogue anyway.
Frank Turner. My mate introduced me to him quite a few years ago and his music at the time resonated with me. Recently his new stuff hasn't been as good (apart from his new album FTHC) which has restored my faith in him. He puts on an incredible live performance and his son 'I Am Disappeared' is my all time favourite song.
I couldn't get into him but perhaps I only tried the later albums. I really like his wife's music though!
I'm going to sound hipster, but apart from FTHC I really prefer his older stuff. England Keep My Bones is probably my favourite album of the lot.
Me and my Dad saw him at the Clapham grand right after lockdown. He was really good
It was mental watching him perform at the opening ceremony for the olympics. Seeing as I’d seen him at so many small shows one being less then 60 people
What a shout. Discovered him when he opened for blink182 a few years back. He's my most listened to on spotify now
Bring me the horizon. Best Rock and Metal act of the past decade. Their live show is unbeatable (maybe a little hyperbolic) and they are easily the most interesting band in music right now! Oli sykes is quality too. Also love Don broco, Enter shikari, slowthai, declan mckenna, architects, slipknot, biffy clyro, pendulum, pierce the veil, oasis, bastille, the wombats, Tom grennan and many more!
I love a fellow metalhead who just absolutely loves every type of music. Anything from the 90's and 2000's charts is chefs kiss and I range from the 60's to 80's with other music. Metal is my true love but damn when Barbie Girl Aqua comes on I'm all over it.
Bmth and architects are my favourite bands and it alternates between the two to who pips it. I have a love/hate opinion on oli though cos I remember how much of a bellend he was in the early days but also love how much he’s achieved these days + his stage presence
Only one band comes to mind, there called Vulfpeck and they are a funk band. Apart from that favourite artist is Mac Miller. Fantastic writer
Agree, Mac is GOAT. Gutted we will never get more from him
Never say never! New album on the way. He collabed with madlib a while back and the album is being released very soon apparently!
That's true tbf and I did love the stuff that was released after he passed. The man just doesn't stop giving 🙌
Radiohead, Frank Ocean and Loyle Carner
It’s between red hot chilli peppers & hip to be a hipster
Both the pinnacle of modern music.
Recently been listening to Beatles and Oasis and then contrasting that by also listening to Dave and D-Block Europe
Little band called. Apple Pie. Heard them on bbc introducing Norfolk and they got some nice vibes
Which song would you recommend to a first time listener?
Gotta be Oasis. Listening to Tennis System recently. AlaskaAlaska is up there.
Oasis reunion? 👀
Nah, there’s a Higher chance of Michael Schumacher making breakfast in bed for me tomorrow morning than Oasis coming back to life. We can dream though.
I'd love to go to a show of theirs at least once, don't think it hits the same with the two split
The Mars Volta
Haven't heard of them myself, what song would you recommend?
I'd probably go for blacklight shine from their newer album!
Do people not rate their music taste? Jack likes kings of leon and they’ve got some tunes tbf.
Just going off the Reddit today hahahah, I do rate Robbie's though
Joy division
♥️
The strokes.
Legend
My favourite band is one direction; I’ve been a fan since I was 7 years old. Love how nice the lads are and they all stand up for what they believe in. Seen 1d live once, Harry styles live x5 and Louis Tomlinson x11. Got tattoos because Louis Tomlinson got number one album, travelled to 5 different countries to see him live, and travelled to 5 different cities within 3 days to meet him. I’m a major fanboy and I think I need help. (I also own 70+ copies of Louis Tomlinson’s album so if anyone wants one, hmu.)
That's great man! Are you a big fan of Louis over the others?
Definitely,i would go to the ends of the earth for Louis. He’s truly a gem of a person, and musician.
My exact thoughts towards Chris Martin
100% agree. Saw louis' documentary the other day and was reminded of how much I love that man.
Great band that only ever did one album - wish they did more tbh - they are called 'sound of rum' also a big fan of the moody blues, the Beatles and the velvet underground ground
If you had to pick one song to recommend what would it be?
Icarus by sound of rum and a sneaky second one would be the question by the moody blues
I must admit I don't listen to many bands, but in terms of artists, my favourite would probably be either Kanye, Eminem, or J.Cole
Homecoming by Kanye and Chris>>>
Rubber
metallica, listen to their music, it’s self explanatory. many different fusions of genres besides the obvious metal. what they did in the music industry (specifically lars, google lars ulrich vs napster) has paved the way for musicians today to make money. their music is great, some albums are bad but the majority are fucking insane, and they have a cover album too which is sick. also chris stapleton (another of my favourites) covered nothing else matters and it’s beautiful
Im a massive metalhead so my my fave band is Periphery who are likely a very aquired taste. I like some music the lads talk about but Ed Sheeran can get in the fucking bin for me personally.
Catfish and the bottlemen, rhcp
Starset are my number one, but their music isn’t quite the same genre as my usual taste. For the genre that I usually prefer, probably Wage War or Until I Wake.
Red hot chili peppers & The 1975 (Sorry Stevie lol)
The Beatle: had to stop touring because the technology wouldn’t allow them to play to big crowds and audiences. They are still the number selling artist/band of all time. The Beatles recorded four of the Top 10 Greatest Albums of All Time. The first band to have lyrics put into the album covers of vinyls. First band to use sound effects in a song. They created the first metal song “helter skelter”. They boast 20 No. 1 hits in the United States, (19 No. 1 albums), with 24 consecutive Top 10 hits from 1964 to 1976 (six years after they broke up), a record for a group. They also have 12 no. 1 hits in Germany, 23 in Australia, 21 in the Netherlands, 22 in Canada, and 13 in Malaysia. They have the most no. 1 albums in the British album charts (15), and 17 No. 1 hits.
No love for drum and bass I see 😭 Interesting that 99% here seem to be actual bands and nothing electronic
I like Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and a bit of Coldplay. I don’t know why I just like them. My dad and brother listen to AM so I guess that explains it
Oasis are definitely up there for me, but icl it's mostly the well known stuff
Yeh same. I haven’t gone too deeply into the archives of their music
You both should change that ASAP. Will change your life.
Which album do you recommend? :)
Red hot chili peppers
Great choice 🌶️
Absolutely! Seeing the Chilis twice this year (London and Glasgow), after already seeing the HH boys twice this year too. Great things come in pairs
By the way, I tried to say I'd be there...
Royal Blood ♥️ also think they would be great guests!
I have so many to pick but I have to go with the libertines. Other than the fact that pete doherty is my favorite smack addict, their music just hits differently. TheEnemy are a close second though with arcade fire, oasis and pulp following behind
Deaf Havana
I think I’m in a small group who consider Amber Pacific to be their favourite.
Im a rap rock fan so like the from ashes to new , Hollywood undead etc also pop rock like The 1975
Lil peep?
If you ever want to get into some slightly heavier stuff, some newer songs by Falling In Reverse might be up your alley. Their newest release, watch the world burn is some of the fastest rap and heaviest rock/metal in a single song 😅
Already do love all there song and specially there reason.
Nirvana Nirvana Nirvana Nirvana. Better than the Beatles. Best to ever do it. Nothing fancy, nothing showboaty, but it’s still inventive, still authentic. It’s pure. It’s human. It’s energetic. It’s sad. It is the best.
I think what puts Nirvana above Oasis for me, (which is my other shout) is just the lyrics comes across as less forced, even though they are just as nonsensical on a nirvana record. Idk why but Nirvana are just totally authentic. There’s nothing phony going on. Whereas a lot of oasis is edging very close to the beatles or even other artists. Also i prefer the emotion in Kurt’s voice. Liam is a good singer, but Kurt adds a layer of emotion to the songs that lyrics just cannot achieve. Also, i just prefer the auteur singer-songwriter dynamic. Kurt is all of it, Oasis comes in two parts. that’s not too relevant but still.
Lil peep >
no. listen i like Lil Peeps music but the whole way Nirvana are viewed in the emo rap scene is just weird. Everyone just does tributes to them to mention that kurt killed himself to be edgy. Both In Utero and Peeps albums are edgy. But nirvana approach being edgy in a far more mature way.
i think there’s a three way divide in Nirvana fans. 1. 50 years olds 2. Emo Rap fans who appreciate Nirvana because it’s become related to that subculture 3. People who appreciate Kurt’s artistry and relate it to more to beat poets and punk rock
The Beatles, Queen and Ghost 🤟
Goth Boi Clique
The wombats - not only are they named after a cute animal they sound great too
Red hot Chili peppers
Not massive into bands but Post Malone is fantastic in my opinion
Not exactly one to brag about but I’m a big fan of Lovejoy. Their lead singer is a twitch streamer which puts a lot of people off them but I genuinely really enjoy their music. I seen them live a couple weeks ago in Belfast and they were incredible. I was even lucky enough to meet them after, and their drummer Mark was kind enough to wait in the merch line and have a conversation with everybody. Definitely wouldn’t be everybody’s cup of tea but if anybody does want to give them a listen I would recommend [Concrete](https://open.spotify.com/track/511nAWwck8asPjql96eM2Y?si=gZi6aV1EQieewBYzpXNZxw) , [The Fall](https://open.spotify.com/track/54ceIU2idlglv0XlYJNe2a?si=AseSVaaJRaSPuwqOOWulgw) and [Call Me What You Like](https://open.spotify.com/track/21rYCEejlfM0LYRlfzxGeM?si=RF4CsFezRaGaDGy9Hn3p6w)
Contemporary, it's gotta be Viagra Boys. The name puts people off but it's tongue-in-cheek. They're just sonically sound, but they're also funny and don't take themselves so seriously. Only three albums in. From the past, probably Pink Floyd, talking more from the Roger Waters era. I just don't feel that they'll ever be a band on the planet that will hav an effect on me, like they /Roger Waters did. I'll cry like a baby when that man's gone.
Editors and The National. Basically depressing indie rock music
My chemical romance is my fav band and Kenshi Yonzeu is my fav artist. Very very different types of music lmao
Led Zeppelin. Ever since I heard Battle Of Evermore from a classic rock youtube playlist about 6.5 years ago, I've been hooked ever since. It was Jimmy Page who got me into guitar, thanks to him, I've been able to keep it up.

?
Pink Floyd best band, Darkside if the moon, The wall, wish your were here and animals, they dropped four 10/10 albums in a row (and David Bowie best artist)
Architects and bring me the horizon. It alternates between the two for my favourite Also big fan of arctic monkeys and eminems older stuff.
the 1975, oasis, etc
I love the British Ska revival of the late 70s, Jamaican Ska music, some 90s rap and modern (from ATCQ to Slowthai), and I love David Bowie’s 70s catalog. Coldplay is a really interesting shout, I actually own a couple of their early albums. I’m sure songs from those do sound great live!
Scratch acid, the gun club, the 4skins. Mainly just punk subgenres though, noisier the better
Queens of the Stone Age
Probably architects or slipknot
Johnny Cash
Bastille
Alice in chains for me.
my faves would probably be halsey, girl in red, declan mckenna and doja cat
