That was the luckiest possible outcome

mightbeelectrical

Literally. Thank fuck for drivers like OP with some awareness Edit: also this footage quality is incredible

Amager_ftw

Not to mention the car in front turning left in the last second

CactusSage

The black SUV and mustang swerving to the left in unison without over correcting was honestly really impressive.

BuddyUpInATree

So much respect to the SUV who wasn't really in the danger zone but moved over anyways to let the Mustang have more room

ericisshort

Also big ups to the concrete barrier for ending right before that idiot needed the extra space.

Entelion

"Bro did you see me save that and not hit anybody??" "Yeah dude you're an awesome driver" "I know..."

monkeymmboy

Knowing drivers like this they’ll get mad and embarrassed and drive even faster to get away from everyone that just saw it, these kinds of people usually don’t have a light in their attic

Raveynfyre

> they’ll get mad and embarrassed and drive even faster to get away from everyone that just saw it You can already see that at the very end of the video. He learned nothing.

janus270

“Don’t have a light in their attic,” love it!

PolymerPussies

It looks like he angrily sped off at the same speed that got him into this situation. He learned nothing.

broken_radio

The video is sped up by 1/3rd for some reason making that takeoff look like a rocket at the end.

readparse

Yeah, you nailed it. It's sped up by about a third. So we slow it down by 25% to get back to real speed. It's still super impressive, in terms of how stupid he was, how scary it was, and how damn lucky he got. I slowed it down in iMovie and made [a new version](https://imgur.com/FQxDwFM).

YpsitheFlintsider

Yeah this video is definitely sped up

pernicious-armscye

Even if they did end up crashing they wouldn't have learned anything. My buddy was just telling me about how his coworker comes in to work everyday complaining someone flipped him off or honked and he just can't get it through his head that he is the bad driver in all those scenarios

Uknow_nothing

I’ve always wondered if really bad drivers constantly get honked at and what they are thinking when it consistently happens. Even with the ego getting in the way, to some extent they’ve gotta know right?

[deleted]

The_De-Lesbianizer

For real. There were multiple instances of top tier defensive driving skills at display in this clip. Very impressive

Shugazu

It's called defensive driving. And more people should learn how to do it.

KDawG888

this kind of driving could prevent so many accidents. and yes, it should absolutely be commended. although to be fair if he didn't move, the mustang might have hit him trying to avoid the other car. bottom line is when you see some shit going down, get out of the way. even if you're not directly in the way at first.

Lovee2331

The Pick Up truck for breaking to let them in! Those are some good drivers!

Boognish84

It was like a movie scene

dislocatedshoelac3

r/oddlysatisfying

standarddeviated_joe

That was more synchronized than the Olympic synchronized swim team! Almost like some force pushed them to the side.

BeastCheng

Not just the Mustang! The car left of the Mustang switched lines so the Mustang can swerve!

beerstearns

That move was borderline clairvoyant

mightbeelectrical

Yeah man. That mustang driver is doing his damn best to break the stereotype

BravoFoxtrotDelta

Outstanding driving from the mustang driver.

stevecostello

Thanks for my first genuine LOL of the day. That's hilarious. :D

Chelsulah

Yeah thanks I woke my boyfriend up from busting out laughing.

c4ctus

Which is probably a phrase that has *rarely* been said.

hopobo

All I could do was slow down here. I was probably going 65 and I didn't want to make any dramatic maneuvers with the number of cars around me. Guy sped away as fast as he came, probably didn't learn shit from this

Camera_dude

That is what boggles my mind. That car and its occupants got as lucky as they could possible be, but instead of driving slower they just keep on going testing their luck.

runbrun11

He probably thought “I’m such a good driver, did you look at that save?!”

SlippinJimE

I actually think it was more, "That was fucking embarrassing, let's get back up to speed quickly to avoid further embarrassment."

bassinine

yeah, and there aren't many things more dangerous than coming to a dead stop, taking up two lanes, on the interstate.

Ch3mee

Blind side, no less. It's dark, without lights aimed at drivers behind there's no way to see a dark car horizontally in the road. They got lucky they didn't get T-boned at 70mph, which would portable be lethal

garlicdeath

Also "I'm fucking at a dead stop with my lights facing sideways on a highway at night I'm gonna get hit"

howardbrandon11

Driver: *drives fast* Driver: *spins out* Driver, a few seconds later: "I'll fucking do it again."

graciegirlsmom

Driver: who threw those bananas?? Dammit Mario!

Cedex

> Guy sped away as fast as he came, probably didn't learn shit from this He learned: "i'M SUch aN AWesOME dRiveR!"

boonstyle_

Most of them mistake "driving fast" for "driving good".

perceptionactionprof

He was probably driving away cursing the "slow ass bad drivers" that almost caused him to crash

loganmalloy5

What dash cam do u use?

hopobo

It's a "driver assist" system, Comma Three. Not technically a dashcam but it's packed with cameras so works all the same.

GroundWire6AWG

I looked it up. Yowza. No wonder the image quality is top notch.

UncleTogie

>I looked it up. Yowza. No wonder the image quality is top notch. Woof... it's around ~$2300 American.

ohmyword

$2200!

TheRealGlutes

That's why it's named comma three, the price tag is a 2, comma, three more digits

ohmyword

haha! top notch marketing

snow-days

whaaaa??? what do you think?? how did you hear about it? it's crazy seeing comma in the wild. I was in the room when the company was started.

hopobo

Oh sick! Yeah I've know about it for a while, being a fan of Hotz from back in the iPhone jailbreak days, but I didn't own a car, until recently, that could benefit from all it's features. Overall, really good at centering a lane. the longitudinal needs work but that's the cool part of these systems. it can only get better from here

snow-days

oh word! that makes sense. yeah, I met George through a mutual friend. And it was weird because I "knew" him from the xda forums, and then suddenly I knew him irl and my friend was saying "yeah, we're gonna start a company together!" (I'm sure if George were here, he'd tell it as 'nobody was in the room because I started it by myself.' But I like to think of it starting when they actually had employees and it became more than just another George project.)

Heavy-Organization78

“Guy sped away as fast as he came” His partner probably says the same about his behavior in the bed..

squirrel_snack

Yes!! What camera is that?

SharpFinish5393

What cam is this OP?

NiftyJet

Really amazing evasion by both the sedan in the right lane and the crossover in the middle lane.

GBGF128

They obliviously learned a lot from it.

SamTheArse

The dodge driver will likely keep speeding as he does in this video

[deleted]

I'm just glad the Mustang driver isn't the one at fault for once.

XxMagicDxX

He GTF.0 out of there lmfao

BobbitTheDog

Riiiight? That swerve out of the way from the other car, just happening to hit a big gap (or maybe the driver having good nerves and reactions and waiting for the gap, instead of just swerving) The cammer stopping in time The idiot somehow not totalling anyone's cars with the fishtailing, this guy just spent all his luck for the next year at least! And then he immediately speeds off again, probably going right back up to 120mph I'll bet 🤦‍♂️

Radioactivocalypse

He'll keep driving fast. Until he loses his legs, sight, arms, or life. Then he won't be driving fast.

go_kart_mozart

Or freedom.

NiceGuyAbe

I bet the idiot learned nothing

FoxcMama

decorama

Dodge Charger drivers are getting a reputation.

Wah_Gwaan_Mi_Yute

This one is only a V6 but yeah when you offer cars that are over 400 hp that brake and handle like a piece of soap on a bathtub floor, people gonna die

OrionStars3

Lmaooo

Empyrealist

With great power comes a need for great braking abilities

Baridian

This wasn't from bad brakes. Almost all brakes are strong enough to lock up the wheels if you want at any speed. Great brakes just means you can slam them over and over and over and they won't lose brake force as quickly. For a standard car, you would shorten braking distance with either wider tires or more down force. The cause of this poor understanding of driving Dynamics. He slammed the brakes, all the weight shifted to the front, he swerved to the right, shifting weight to the left side of the car and then tried to quickly straighten out. This caused all the weight that had been on the left wheels to unload and shift to the right, rapidly increasing yaw rate, and since there was almost no weight on the back tires from heavy braking, they were able to slide out of line from the front tires when the weight sprung from the left to the right. Next mistake was then immediately lifting off the brakes. With the back out of line with the front, lifting off the brakes shifted weight back into to the rear tires, allowing them to start rolling instead of sliding. This caused the car to immediately veer off course and then fishtail. Possibly could've been avoided with stability control, definitely could've been avoided if he didn't swerve.

IsildursBane10

^ This man brakes

shams_

I mean he’s driving a v6 charger. So yeah

Rad0555

My first car was a 2012 V6 charger and it almost killed me. Im not someone that speeds at all but my whole car shut off one time while driving and I couldn’t even steer. Got lucky I was driving slow. Basically everything stopped functioning. I did love the car but after that I was scared of it. Only drive locally now and take side roads. But for a v6, if you wanted to go fast, you definitely could.

DodgeBeluga

People don’t often realize this but once they put in the pentastar the charger got a lot faster. The V6 is fast, especially when paired with the ZF.

Mattfox1025

If it’s the same 3.6 pentastar that’s in my jeep I concur. Can’t imagine what I could do if it weren’t, ya know, brick shaped

hexiron

It’s ok. Haggled over monthly payments. It’s financed over 7 years. What a steal!

OrionStars3

I remember talking to a buddy that was in the navy and I told him my APR was 1.2% and he replied with “How did you get it that low? Mine was 35%”. My jaw hit the floor. I told him “you should have gotten a small used car, you idiot. My APR is that low because of my good credit and because I bought a Honda Civic.” He got like a brand new muscle car of some sort. I had to convince him to pay as much as he could safely afford and not the minimum due. He ended up paying $900 a month leaving him with just enough money to scrape by.

Charger drivers really out here trying to make chargers the new mustang

Commercial_Brick_309

The funniest thing is that the best evasive driving on display here is from a Mustang

Its_a_Trap-

The car to the left of the mustang was pretty damn good too. They had to recognize the idiot 2 lanes over and predict that the mustang would need to swerve

lalalalibrarian

If it was me, that’s not predicting the Mustang’s move, that’s me saying ‘I’m getting the fuck away from that idiot’

TILtonarwhal

That Mustang must’ve been like “I was warned that people would try to race me in this, but holy shit….”

luminenkettu

mustang drivers absorb the IQ of all nearby drivers when a dodge gets withen 10 yards

SavantOfSuffering

So OP. Hope they debuff this in the next patch.

wrassehole

Chargers have definitely surpassed Mustangs where I live. Nothing tops the shitty Altimas or G35s with fake drive-out though. They're basically the final boss of /r/idiotsincars .

almondania

Check out r/NissanDrivers then lmao like he best of the best of this sub. Nissan will lease a car to a toddler and a corpse.

jjb227

it feels like whenever someone cuts me off, changes lanes fast without signaling, running reds etc...its a fucking nissan

Funny enough, the actual Mustang made a clean smooth lane change to not get smashed up.

Dr_Findro

Honestly I very rarely have any issues with muscle cars or BMWs. The real enemy is pick up trucks. Every pick up truck bigger than a Tacoma I keep my eyes on

Shadow703793

According to latest data, the Mustangs get in to less accidents than BRZs: https://insurify.com/insights/car-models-with-the-most-accidents-2021/

A-Disgruntled-Snail

And they learned nothing.

SeanAker

Driver almost kills themselves and multiple others, gets insanely lucky and comes away unharmed without damaging their car Immediately peels out to start speeding again Fuckin' people, man.

Unitedfan0722

To be fair, he is on a highway and stopped dead. The only safe thing to do is peel out and try to get up to 60-70(I assume) pretty quickly because the people who didn’t see the accident are flying towards them.

hopobo

My butthole was definitely clinched at being dead stopped in the middle of an interstate highway. Unfortunately, not only did the idiot get back up to speed quickly, he continued to book it down the highway. Guy was out of sight by the time I got back up to speed.

Komraj

That’s the type of thing to happen to a normal person and make them drive back with both hands on the steering wheel and the radio turned off sat hunched over

chickennugget626

absolutely im going home after that I don't care where I was on my way to I need to go home lol

BandsAndCommas

lol he probably booked it because he wanted to blend and pretend it never happened/ not be followed

cohortq

These people only regret things once in the hospital.

reddit_beer_map

they likely "learned" the wrong lesson - Hey I'm such an awesome driver that I recovered and didn't crash!!!

GigiJuno

Because he didn’t cause any damage, he now thinks he’s a great driver. My husband had a friend like this. For these people it doesn’t matter that they almost caused a serious crash, they made it out without a scratch, so they think they’re better than everyone. That driver’s ego is probably inflated as fuck now.

staffsmarie

This muppet avoided a collision only due to the quick thinking of other drivers. He is definitely one sandwich short of a picnic.

-B-E-N-I-S-

Yeah the suv, Mustang, pickup truck and OP them self just put on a pageant of good reaction time and skill. Good work to everyone involved.

I_Was_Fox

Watch it at 0.75x speed. It is wayyyyy more natural

wheelperson

How do you slow it down?

trsrogue

Because it is. Everything from the speed of the blinker to how quickly the car's suspension settles when it slides to a stop shows it's sped up. Better question is why speed up the video? To add some more drama?

AnthoneySoprano

The whole thing looks like a silent comedy from the 1920’s.

funguyshroom

Cue Benny Hill song

Hubblesphere

It's because video file doesn't have a header so players don't know what framerate to play it at and default to 30fps. Video is actually captured at 20fps so it needs to be slowed down .66x to play at correct speed. Not OP's fault.

IDoLikeMyShishkebabs

Same thing happens with iPhones, but vice versa- I use a custom camera app for 120-240 fps footage and it’ll automatically slow it down to 60 fps in the native player.

MusicianMadness

Knowing reddit, it's probably not intentionally sped up.

apeonpatrol

play it at .75x and its almost real time

Hubblesphere

It's the codex format. Frame rate isn't correct so it speeds it up a bit.

ThatOneTimeItWorked

And why did I have to scroll this far to see this asked?

FebreezeBottleTaster

This dudes gonna go home and complain about bad drivers on the road now

wehnaje

He’s lucky others were VERY aware of their surroundings. Idiots like this deserve their license revoked FOR LIFE.

drDekaywood

For real. There needs to be a lot steeper punishment for people with the mentality that this is ok to do on public roads. If someone thinks it’s ok, they don’t deserve to have a license anymore. I could have the coolest baddest sports car ever and I know doing this is dangerous to other people and illegal so I just wouldn’t do it.

kaddir12

Can I ask for your dashcam? Its quality is so good. @Op

hopobo

It’s actually a Comma Three, an aftermarket “driver assist” system. Works pretty well for a dashcam, however, downloading videos is not as straightforward as it could be.

Unhappy_Emu_8525

Damn dude. Can't hide that money.

Some1Betterer

Bet he’s in the 3 comma club.

1ini

Does comma 3 have AEB features?

G33k-Squadman

It's a big ol crowd sourced self driving software platform. It's capabilities vary greatly on brand and model. Works best with Toyota and Honda so far, but more testers are always needed for other brands.

SaintPau78

Why is the video sped up?

SharkDogLaserBoy

Someone a few days ago mentioned in a thread that when they uploaded it to reddit the video played back faster. Maybe this happened here as well.

Hubblesphere

video codec mismatch.

obeekaybee7

That cam starts @ $2199. Holy shit

flashfire4

That's because it's not just a camera. It's basically an entire high-end smartphone with cameras to add self-driving to your car so I think that $2199 is a pretty reasonable price.

WisestAirBender

Wait you can just add self driving. What

skellera

Its kind of the point. They sell you a dash cam and you install openpilot on it. It’s sitting between the driver assist features like ACC and lane keeping assist and improves their functionality to pretty much at or better (HIGHLY dependent on the car you’re adding it to) than autopilot on a Tesla.

jnads

Your car needs to be a modern car (roughly 2016+) that has the hardware to allow it to hijack your system, but yes it does add self driving. I have one installed in a Chrysler Pacifica. Drove 120 miles on the Interstate without touching the wheel once. Now you can't just do fuck-all and start Tindering on your phone. You do need to pay attention, because it's not infallible. Basically any car with a radar and a basic bitch lanekeep system can install it. Hyundai/Kia, Toyota/Lexus, and Acura/Honda and Chrysler are the best cars in order.

darkstar999

It's the Comma Three, it means you need three commas in your bank account to afford it.

And_993

Better than $10k

RazoRReeseR

As others have said it’s not just a camera, it an open source self driving system.

valandil74

Other cars reacted well I think and some luck

GanjaLogic

Mustang made an incredible last second merge out of the way. Mad impressive.

dog-ate-it

When the laxative kicks in there is no time to waste.

I have a feeling that they don't need that laxative any more.

unlimited_range

There’s so much great driving in this clip tbh. Besides the idiot in question we have the guy merging on who smartly slows down. The suv in front seems to knowingly make a quick lane change to the right, which allows the mustang next to the idiot to also make a lane change and avoid a collision. Not to mention the pickup on the left veering a bit off to the left to prevent incident and the car the footage is from doing a good job staying calm and slowing/stopping. Just impressive stuff

blacktoetoise69

thisnewsight

My FIL was one of these insane drivers. He took EVERYTHING personally on the road. If he was on the right lane and someone passed him on the left, he feels like he is dumb and slow. He’ll try to pass them. One day he got into a horrific accident because of this behavior. He was totally at fault. Nearly died. Now he drives way better. His invincible aura bubble got popped big time. Love it.

SmokeGSU

That looked like me trying to control my Jeep Willy in Forza Horizon 5 after doing an engine swap and taking it from D class to S1 class.

I never get why these idiots love passing on the right when they’re going this fast. There a pretty good chance there’s gonna be slower traffic there.

SpikeRosered

Reminds me of an older friend of a friend who used to pull off driving tricks to impress us and talk about how good of a driver her was. As an impressionable kid I believed him. I found out later after he lost his license, that those things actually make you a bad driver.
