Its a tough program, both because of content and not the best structure. There isnt really much of a support structure, and professors can be awful with communication. Professors can have high standards and dump a lot of work, which is fine imo since theyre trying to weed out a difficult profession
This is my second degree, so I was ready for the work load and time commitment. But i came from a smaller program with more intimate professor student relationships, and so my biggest issue is how little the school tries to guide you
Avoid it. The program is without any structure, a few dogshit professors (Jordi, Shankar, Raffi), very little help, no good advising or recruitment. Our "coordinator" literally sends Juniors and Seniors internship info the day before the application deadline. I'd go to Brooklyn or Queens personally, unless you actually know what you're doing already (2-3 years of programming + a plan to build your own projects and leetcode).
I graduated in CS from there, let me know if you need any guidance or mentorship! It really is what you make of it but being in NYC provides so many opportunities you can’t get anywhere else.
Hmm I think 1-2 were from Hunter/CUNY and the rest I found on my own! I honestly just applied to as many companies as possible. You’ll dedicate a lot of time and stress into interviewing during school and finals but it’s so worth it.
Hello, I am considering transferring to hunter, are the classes you take at hunter related to the CS degree. I heard many CS programs teach data-structures, algorithms, object oriented programming. But looking at the degreemap for hunter I dont see any of those classes. Were the things you were taught at hunter useful to you when It came internships and projects, or did you mostly learn your self?
Thank you so much. I have one more question however, I head that hunter offers a deadaus honors program for CS, what are the requirements to get into the program and can I get into it as a transfer? I have above average grades and had decent grades in highschool. I am a upcoming sophmore.
I graduated as a part of that program! Not an admissions expert, but I would expect requirements are a decent high school GPA, a huge display of passion and work ethic, and a plus would be an adult who can vouch for you. I don’t know about transfers but it should be likely as long as you have something to show for it.

Agree with this post, Queens would be a much better choice.
I hate Shankar so much. I’ve never had a professor who guards course material as much as he does.
Hearing the name Jordi triggers my ptsd 😭

I have to take Tong Yi is she really as bad as they say she is?
Never heard of them, might be new ? 😳
Was she bad or na?
She is ok. But you will learn more by self studying then her lectures
Were you able to secure a swe internship/full-time offer?
Yep, multiple times every year.
Wow that's awesome! Did you find internships through Hunter? I'm trying to look for CS internships myself

Yes you are taught them, it’s just under different course names at Hunter!! Look for CSCI 127, 135, 235 and 335 :)
