Anyone witness the insanity on Jackson b/t 6 and 7 this evening?

Anybody know where one can purchase these Roman candles?
They started at Church Square just before that. The battle began around the basketball courts and suddenly there were fire balls passing right by kids on the swings and in the playground. Kids were literally running for cover. Several men yelled at them to stop but they didn’t listen. As I looked around I saw about 6 parents on the phone, clearly calling police. Unfortunately the police took a pretty damn long time to get there considering the size of Hoboken. The police did interview some witnesses and were taking notes. The last I saw of it they were firing them off at each other by the library, heading towards the area where you saw them.
They did that also at pier C park close to the little kids playground. They almost hit a dude who was sitting in the lawn reading a book.
Yeah I was pier C park when this happened! It was horrific. They didn’t even care if they were going to hurt someone, just lighting them up one after the other!

Was this on Friday? I was passing through Church Square Park on Thursday around 5pm and there was a similar scene in the northeast corner of the park (around the water fountains and the fenced-in baby playground).
Yes, last night. Probably just before 7:00 PM.
I live right there! I can’t believe I missed it
Par for the course in that area of town. Used to live on Monroe and walking Jackson St at night was quite a scene. Constant ambulance and cop sightings.
A certain demo of the younger pop in town don’t really respect others around them. Witnessed a girl brawl outside the HS stadium last week with guys egging them on.
that dispatcher response is concerning
how is this the mayor's fault? why don't you blame the police department for the slow response?
Neve mind, dumb questions, I know. anyone who uses a phrase like "jerking off developers" is obviously a political hack with an agenda, so no one expects you to have a reasoned counterargument.
It’s a complicated issue, you won’t learn anything by preemptively shutting down any discussion. Let’s see what we can learn from reading. https://www.propublica.org/article/what-can-mayors-do-when-the-police-stop-doing-their-jobs
Oh no there's children playing with fireworks
The kids are in their area?
Ya I agree take that shit to some park with an open field.
I also thought it was pretty blatant. It forces an other to be created in the mind of the reader.
If it was just "kids are shooting off fireworks" it doesnt create as much of an other, and then the reader gets less enraged. The rage here is tied to the racism implied. The browness and poverty and savage nature all implied by the author.
What dog whistling are you seeing, other than maybe mentioning the projects?
I had an uncle growing up who owned property in a woodsy area. One fall, I was staying with him for a long weekend and he had some leftover roman candles from the 4th of July. We decided to have a war with them - he was like 30 I was like 14 so blame him - but we did it across a river with one of us on each side. The thinking was we'd have enough time to see the fireballs coming to dodge them. It was like high-stakes paintball we reasoned, which we had done several times and enjoyed.
My mom had bought me a really nice, expensive coat that year. A nice long wool men's coat. I had taken it off and put it on a stump well behind my spot on the river. No one got hurt, but dammit if one of those fireballs didn't overshoot and land dead square on my coat and burn a massive hole right through it.
Any chance we had of hiding our idiocy from my mom was out with that development and she was not happy when she found out, lol.
How'd you know they were from the projects?
cuz i live right next to the projects and see those same kids all the time and their parents were all out on the lawn yelling at them to come back? it’s a fact, it’s not racist to say someone lives somewhere
I didn't say you were racist but the defensiveness is a little telling tbh
What's wrong with facts?
oh please give me a break. y’all never had a roman candle fight??
Move to the suburbs.
I hate this phrase. People are allowed to complain about things that happen in their cities.
Not getting an eye shot out by a Roman candle is a reasonable expectation, including in a city.
Sure, after you move to Guantanamo bay
