A lot of older players will have a big amount of gems simply cause the collab characters are pretty weak and the banner set is overall meh. So 2 updates of saving..
Next cycle is rosetta so people will spend there..
It's not that big, with how generous GT is, saving 6k every week is easy. I have about 75k saved up at the moment, all free gems, after summoning from the Collab banners and getting everyone (my hero collection is at 100%). I don't spend in the game tho, but I've been playing since release.
300 gems from DM
2100 gems from Colo
2100 gems from either arena or coop
900 gems from login
490 gems from dailies
200+ gems from little princess gifts
And gems from Guild, biweekly login
In total you can get an average of 6k+ gems per week.

It is if you like the game or if you are pulling for collab stuff. Other than that the game is pretty dang generous on giving out gems.
