Zeus, Ares and maybe posedion could be stronger than Thor. Greek gods just seemed stronger in general. Zeus swinged his sword and destroyed an army.
He used a super move and one-shotted an army of titans.
Ares sniped Kratos with a building from thousands of kilometers away (kratos was in the middle of a desert and ares was in a city).
Ares didnt even fight when kratos called him for help. Barbarians just died. Their heads exploded, they burned alive etc.
Physically, there may not be too much of a difference. But magic in greece was something else. Mimir asked kratos “i heard gods in your lands had all kinds of powers. Fire, lightning the whole lot!”. And kratos answers “i had them too. But i cant use them anymore”. And yet he still didnt seem like he struggled against thor in their final fight. Meanwhile he needed the hope power against zeus. Even blade of olympus wasnt enough to kill zeus.
Thor seems more “normal”. Like he would actually fight strong warriors. Greek gods seemed like they would just smite armies if mortals tried to fight them.
Hermes and helios didnt seem that strong. Thor can defeat them maybe.
Zeus kills kratos and Thor doesn't. Also Kratos uses his full power against Zeus and is still holding back his true power in his fights with Thor. Zeus is definitely more powerful.
I agree, he kills him. He uses the lightening from the hammer on his chest like a defibrillator to bring him back. Thor even says something along the lines of "oh no, you don't get to die yet, I decide when you die".
I get what the other guy is saying, that Kratos wouldn't let it get that far cause he has to protect Atreus. But he was over whelmed. Thor kicked his ass that fight and Kratos under estimated him.
Kratos has died in literally every game, other than 2018, so it's not really a surprise.
Could you provide a source where someone says that? The game would suggest (if not outright state) that Thor killed him, then brought him back. A game dev (I think Eric Williams, but I’d have to double check) said that they deliberately included Thor killing and bringing Kratos back as a nod to the fact that Thor did this with some sheep/goats (again, I forget) in the Edda.
Yes, he said that on podcast. Meaning that Thor canonically killed Kratos and brought him back to life. Idk why a lot of people are just refusing to accept that.
Because it doesn't make sense why they would do that at all. At that moment kratos doesn't know if atreus is safe so why would he hold back? Unless they're saying he cares more about himself than his son which is the opposite of how he's portrayed before that point and after.
It says that on the wiki and when I played it that's how I saw it too. It doesn't make alot of sense to me that he died there since he knows atreus is in danger so he'd be forced into using his full strength in that situation which he doesn't he's still holding back. Letting Thor kill him means he'd let atreus die too.
It just doesn't make logical sense to me that he actually dies there. Eric Williams should understand kratos as a character would never let atreus be in danger like that with his knowledge of odin at that point and would risk letting his rage out fully.
I think the "death scene" was for show: the devs just wanted to have fun and break the fourth wall for a bit. Kratos has been through a lot worse, I don't think 1 blow from mjolnir would be enough to kill him
But it did and its now canon. Saying the devs wanted to have fun or it was for show means very little. The reality we have is that Kratos got smacked in the head by Thor and died.
Its not really fair cause Thor is a drunken mess at this point in his life. I think back when Odin still considered him “fun” he was more in his prime killing giants. And while Kratos could be considered past his prime too he maintained his spartan discipline and didnt devolve.
That said from what we know Zeus did come back as a ghost and idt Bifrost could’ve prevented that, while Odin pretty easily bifrost-spears Thor to death.
thor is actually sober for a good chunk of the game/ the first fight.
odin thought he was more fun when he was a drunken mess who didn't ask questions, it's probably why he was banging those goblets infront of him in the first scene.
İ think so, yeah. You can understand what happened more clearly thanks to a conversation between mimir and atreus.
Appearantly, thor was always drunk and he beat his sons. Sif was like that too. But sif quit drinking a while ago. She kept insisting thor quits too for their children’s sake.
When thor beats up magni in a drunken rage, sif gives him an ultimatum and thor finally agrees. He quits drinking after the events of gow 2018. Mostly, he tries for thrud’s sake.
He makes a mistake and drinks once in this game. Thats why thrud got angry at him. You can also hear odin say “your husband started drinking again all on his own” when sif tried to blame atreus for it.
Thor looked like he really regretted drinking that one time. İ doubt he did it again before the war.
Also, you can see in the first scene that he doesnt drink mead. He offers his cup to atreus. He smells it, puts it on mjolnir but he doesnt drink. Thats why odin says “you are no fun anymore” before drinking thor’s cup.
Oooooooh I totally misread that interaction yes. It makes sense the way you describe it, I just took the wrong hint and went way south in my conclusion.
Zeus. Thor loses points for being a drunk. If Thor had self discipline and his dad wasn’t Odin he would have been close. Thor was Odin’s bitch up until the end. Then I respected him when he finally told Odin to eat a dick.
Zeus is 100% more powerful than Thor and Odin. In GOW 3 alone you see how powerful some of the gods and titans are. And when Kratos is pissed off he makes short work of all of them apart from Zeus which he had to find Hope to help him. To me, gods and titans/ giants in Greece just seem more powerful and bigger. It feels like the Norse realm is younger in some ways and immature.
Odin doesn't even look that much older than Kratos I think but the mentality is more egotistical and obsessive throughout the Norse gods. Everything that's happened in GOW4 and Ragnarok Kratos has experienced before in one way or another, so he's well equipped mentally and through wisdom. I feel younger Kratos is still more powerful than older Kratos but is he by no means weak. He holds his own and overpowers everyone as he always does.
Long short, the Greek pantheon is more powerful as awhile I'd say.
Answer based on Game feats/lore and Cory Barlog's statement only:
GOW2 - Zeus takes a beating from Kratos and is saved by Athena.
GOW3 - Zeus is killed by Kratos singlehandedly.
\---- Comes the Norse Saga -----
Cory Barlog says: "Old Kratos is much stronger than young kratos."
GOW4 (2018) - Official Game Novel says Kratos never faced an opponent so powerful as Baldur in his previous life (includes whole Greek pantheon).
\---- Comes Fimbulwinter and Kratos achieves its Prime form ----
GOW Ragnarok:
Kratos vs Thor FIGHT 1 - Thor kills Kratos and ressurrects him. Thor was superior in that fight against Kratos because Kratos was fighting without purpose, he didn't have a goal on mind, he just wanted to avoid a new war.
Then you come and tell me "Kratos was holding back.." Would you be holding back in a fight to the point you GET KILLED WITH A HAMMER ON YOUR FACE?! hahaha joking guys (but true)... In that fight I just believe Thor was indeed more powerful than a prime Kratos (that is much superior to the one that killed Zeus singlehandedly) fighting without purpose.
Kratos vs Thor FIGHT 2 - Kratos is now fighting for the future of Atreus, for avenging Brok and to free the 9 realms from Odin's influence. Now he embraces war and is more powerful than ever and yes, he beat Thor. Remember how the Power of Hope allowed Kratos to kill Zeus for good? It's more like a state of mind/focus than anything else.
In that fight Thor was also bloodlusted, not holding back, like in the previous one and he even says "Now I'm allowed to kill you". But Kratos is superior and wins the battle.
This is the same Thor that hit Jormungandr so hard that it travelled back to the past.
Do you guys really think Zeus could compete with a God like Thor? Please share Zeus' feats to sustain your argument and remember how he got rekt by Kratos in GOW2 and GOW3. (weaker Kratos form).
My humble opinion based on game lore:
Odin > Kratos >= Thor > Baldur > Zeus > Hades > Poseidon > Heimdall > whatever the rest
Cheers.

Zeus. Without question.

I agree, Zeus is stronger, but Thor literally kills Kratos in the first fight.

That part was awesome, gameplay wise. I had this death game screen and thought I died
He knocks him out he doesn't kill him.

I definitely didn’t see it that way, and I’ll take the devs word over the fan-written wiki, but I understand where you’re coming from.
It just doesn't make logical sense to me that he actually dies there. Eric Williams should understand kratos as a character would never let atreus be in danger like that with his knowledge of odin at that point and would risk letting his rage out fully.
Its simple. He underestimated Thor's power and got killed for it.
I think the "death scene" was for show: the devs just wanted to have fun and break the fourth wall for a bit. Kratos has been through a lot worse, I don't think 1 blow from mjolnir would be enough to kill him

Thor was a drunken mess for most of his life. He was sober at the start and end of the game. He only drank once and realized it was a mistake.
Wow I really got it backwards?

Probably Thor. Hitting the serpent so hard it got sent back in time is an insane feat
Kratos is an absolute destroyer of worlds and still beat Thor holding back.
Yet Thor killed him for holding back in the first fight. I'm not sure Kratos would make the same mistake again.
Zeus. Thor loses points for being a drunk. If Thor had self discipline and his dad wasn’t Odin he would have been close. Thor was Odin’s bitch up until the end. Then I respected him when he finally told Odin to eat a dick.

He is also one of the most accurate thors
