And in the previous game, part of his character growth meant embracing his old self and re-using the blades of chaos, which have their own history. In a survival situation, he should definitely use a dead manās weapons.
Particularly a dead god.
He literally killed Pandoras father with the weapon he recieved from I think Hephestous (sorry if I didnāt spell it right or if I got the name wrong).
He stole Hades blades, Hercules glove etc
Just like the blades, he can use the hammer for good.
Still doesnt count, taking coins from graves isnt the same as using a infamous weapon. Dont bring up his blades either, he legit cant get rid of them. Otherwise he wouldve been destroyed them.& he only went back to retrieve them in 2018 because that was the only way heād get what he needed for atreus. If anything i see kratos destroying the hammer not using it
i disagree and even if it would make sense storywise, why the fuck would they advertise a $250 collectors edition including the hammer, if we can't even use it in the game.
This is legitimately so baffling to me. Why on earth is the hammer included in the collector's edition if it only appears as a weapon used by an antagonist?
It makes no sense at all
Itās simply merchandise, thatās why. Of course they are going to have the most iconic Norse mythology weapon in the collectors edition so that it looks enticing. However it doesnāt make thematic sense to use it because itās a WMD stained with the blood of many innocent beings.
Gameplay wise, the Axe was made to counter Mjolnir and is literally Mjolnir 2.0. They are functionally the same because both focuses on viscerally powerful attacks for singular targets while the blades are used for crowd control. What would the functionality be with Mjolnir? Also the leaked third weapon makes a lot more sense since itās long ranged.
The only two differences is that Mjolnir is a lightning infused blunt weapon while the Axe is a frost imbued sharp weapon.
Maybe itās the cynic in me, but I just had this feeling that we were never going to use Mjolnir. I know people want new weapons, however it would be the same as the Axe. Iām pretty sure that SSM wants to avoid of the GOW 3 problem of the other weapons feeling like reskins of the blades.
This must be one of the dumbest posts I've seen. Although Kratos is not openly seeking violence, he is still a pragmatic solider. And we saw often even in GOW 2018, that he pays little attention to symbolism. If a weapon presented itself as being useful and powerful Kratos would use it. He literally always has.
I am not justifying it, i understand why everyones disappointed, mjolnir is awesome. I was just giving my opinion storywise. Its a bummer, id have definitely liked to see mjolnir gameplay
Thorās hammer is an insult to Fayeās memory (the axe is her wish for the world to be protected of Aesir tyranny), though most people are mad they canāt use a hammer lol.
Not only that, but also, in terms of gameplay functionality, it would handle the same as the Axe. The way Kratos swings the Axe is already the same as one swings a hammer. It also has Mjolnirās iconic recalling ability. Finally, the only two differences is one is a lighting infused blunt object while the other is a frost infused sharp object.
After replaying GOW3, the only unique weapons in that game are the blades and Nemean Cestus. The claws of hades and nemesis whip are reskins of the blades with different magical effects. Maybe this is what SSM wanted to avoid.
Yeah 100% I remember people back in 2020 calling GOW a better Mjƶlnir simulator than the avengers game, they would have complained it were too similar anyway.
I feel like a lot of people are hyping themselves up without thinking of how the damn thing would actually function in combat. Replaying 2018 really opened my eyes to how similar it is to Mjolnir from its iconic ability to how Kratos uses it. The lore even states that it was made to counter Mjolnir so itās essentially a 2.0 version of it.
Also, just because itās in the collectors edition never meant it was gonna be usable. Itās purely for merchandise reasons so that the collectors edition looks more enticing, that however is the cynic in me talking.
Mjolnir would run into the same issue I have with the GOW 3 weapons. There are only really 2 unique weapons (blades and cestus) even though they give you 4. I rather have quality than quantity.
Very true. We have the axe, there's no reason to have another weapon that does the exact same thing. If we need new a element or moveset just upgrade the axe.
>Mjolnir was a weapon that slayed the giants, its a symbol of thors tyranny.
Honestly this is probably why so many players want it, the power trip from people hoping Kratos becomes a destructive rage monster. Can't wait for him to be the opposite hah.
Anyone saying āDiD yoU EvEn PlaY tHe oRigInal TrilOgyā it DOESNT count in this instance because the whole point of gow2018 up to ragnarok is that kratos has changed, heās not on a warpath anymore, heās been done with his vengeance for a while. So yes i agree with OP that it would be wrong to use it, perfect alternative tho(TO ME) would be both the axe & mjolnir breaking & then the dwarves rebuilding the pieces into a new weapon entirely. That would be cool alternative to me, hell even better if we give it to boi.
Iām kinda in the middle, I donāt care if we can use Mjolnir or not. Besides the Axe is just as cool in my opinion so that definitely fills the void for me.
You mean the guy who'd even use a dead man's shoes? And who's perfectly happy with looting all kinds of graves and corpses through even GOW4?
Don't forget the lateral headlight he used š
āCanāt see Kratos using a dead manās weaponā Bruh have you even played the God of War series
He has literally used both dead men's weapons but dead women's weapons as well (like leviathan axe)
The entire story implies that he has changed
Kratos constantly robs graves in the new game and atreus is disgusted Kratos replies "He can no longer use it"
Thats a good point
And in the previous game, part of his character growth meant embracing his old self and re-using the blades of chaos, which have their own history. In a survival situation, he should definitely use a dead manās weapons. Particularly a dead god.
I mean thats a good point. Perhaps in the story they decide that its not needed?
Why are you getting a downvote? You seems like a calm and reasonable person
Idk :( funny joke tho
He literally killed Pandoras father with the weapon he recieved from I think Hephestous (sorry if I didnāt spell it right or if I got the name wrong). He stole Hades blades, Hercules glove etc Just like the blades, he can use the hammer for good.
Old games, different time, different kratos. Doesnt count in ragnarokās case
He steals from peoples grave in the 4th game
Still doesnt count, taking coins from graves isnt the same as using a infamous weapon. Dont bring up his blades either, he legit cant get rid of them. Otherwise he wouldve been destroyed them.& he only went back to retrieve them in 2018 because that was the only way heād get what he needed for atreus. If anything i see kratos destroying the hammer not using it
Heās still willing to steal from dead people, whether itās a weapon or not heās still stealing from dead people.
He literally uses the blades the murdered his wife and child.....
And he hates that he has to
Except he doesn't have to. He only needed them for hell. He accepted that he is a monster and will use that power
Thats very true, perhaps kratos uses mjolnir for a period of time but then decides its not needed anymore?
He had no choice. You know he must use them in Helheim to save his son.
And then chooses to continue using them thereafter when he doesnāt have to
Have you played the previously game up to god of war 1
i disagree and even if it would make sense storywise, why the fuck would they advertise a $250 collectors edition including the hammer, if we can't even use it in the game.

Idk if you know this, but the leaked spear is not a ranged weapon. Regardless, Kratos already uses WMDs stained in innocent blood.
It is ranged btw
Difference is the blades are cursed to never leave Kratos. He also needs those for Helheim and the Hel-Walkers.
Yeah bro just use the blades that genocided a whole mythology š¤ Do you guys even want to have fun while playing a video game?
He never wants to use them. He only brings them out for his sons health when hes on the brink of death
I'm glad as well. It would be very disrespectful to Faye. And that man is love with her.
This must be one of the dumbest posts I've seen. Although Kratos is not openly seeking violence, he is still a pragmatic solider. One of the worst kinds of "fans" I've ever seen are those who run to justify the creators' absolutely stupid decisions.
Facts. People are doing anything to defend sms on this point, even the collector has the mjolnir and you can't use it in the game... LOL
I am not justifying it, i understand why everyones disappointed, mjolnir is awesome. I was just giving my opinion storywise. Its a bummer, id have definitely liked to see mjolnir gameplay
Hold up dude, is it actually confirmed that we don't get the hammer????
He uses his dead wifeās weapon and the weapons thatās killed his previous wife and child gift or not
Thorās hammer is an insult to Fayeās memory (the axe is her wish for the world to be protected of Aesir tyranny), though most people are mad they canāt use a hammer lol.
Dude!!! What a great point. Ive been getting ripped apart for this post, good to have someone agree with me

Yes but you completely overlooked runic attacks which would've been absolutely fucking badass with mjolnir.
Very true. We have the axe, there's no reason to have another weapon that does the exact same thing. I still wanted helmets for the best armors in gow2018. The spear is pretty fucking cool either way. Full spartan mode
Iām with you on this one. Kratos already has his leviathan axe, plus if you know, you know. Using mjolnir would be an insult to faye.
Exactly!
āCanāt see kratos using dead manās weaponā God. iām definitely throwing myself from the window after reading thisā¦ā¦
That would be cool but then imagine developing that into a game lol, all the axe upgrades become useless
Ahh shit i forgot about the axe upgrades
And now people are enjoying less gameplay and fun mechanics... Cope more
True that sucks
Heās talking about you
I mean not really. I dont enjoy less gameplay. My opinion is just story based
Iām kinda in the middle, I donāt care if we can use Mjolnir or not. Besides the Axe is just as cool in my opinion so that definitely fills the void for me.
Dude had a literal HEAD he carried around like a flashlight. Forget dead manās weapon, he uses dead men.
