Personally, I think the first is better than the second for a few reasons. First of all the contrast on the first makes the character stand out and lets someone's eyes draw towards it, unlike the second when the character's jacket blends in too well with the background. The texture on the second is the same allover, but on the first the character pops more because it has a different material than the background. Overall They are both still really good, and I would like to see more.
Thanks a ton! I was thinking of doing another picture with the biker cat, and I'll totally keep all this in mind. Very challenging when a character has black clothes and the rest isn't bright white!
No problem, just doing what I can to help :)
Honestly your art style is so distinct that both of them are incredibly pleasing to look at. I like the first just a bit more as it can stand out really well with your background, but they're both really good characters
I wouldn't say either one looks better or worse than the other, they're just different designs that serve different purposes. The left character stands out more, and the flat black-and-white design feels like she could be from a 60s cartoon. I feel like she'd be suited in a comic which would need attention drawn towards the characters. The right character, with the same colors and texture as the background, feels like a "quieter" piece. It gives off a mood and can stand alone without any dialogue. The focus isn't on her, it's on the atmosphere of everything together, capturing a moment. Regardless, for both of these pieces, what distinguishes the designs really depends on the backgrounds here. If you wanted the left to be in a quieter mood-piece, she'd have to be shaded/textured darker, meanwhile the right one could be running around doing stuff with others if she had lighter texturing and a more contrasted setting.
Perfect, the two of them 🤑
They both have a completely different ambience to them that would both be excellent for different stories. My only thing personally catches my eye and makes me like one over the other is left has a nose actually drawn where right doesn't have that detail. I can't tell if that's purposeful or mistake as well as it's so minor either piece could be done with or without that detail. That is why I pick both and say it's situational.
Neither is better nor worse than the other, they both have their own merit and unique style which offers appeal in their own ways. Personally, I love the second more: her outfit has a pleasing colour scheme that corresponds with her fur, the style of the outfit is more appealing towards my personal tastes, and she has goggles which instantly makes me like a character more lol.
Ah, you dig the biker look?
Very much gives off an adventure vibe. Perfect for exploring and looking cool while doing so.
In my honest opinion I think first one looks more original in a way, though they both would use a pop of color that could make em stand out a bit more! For example on the first one eyes and pearls on the neck could be red, that would make a difference in making them stand out between other characters! And the cat in the second picture could look better if maybe something like a small scar/face tattoo could be added, saying this as just examples! Details matter, it can change a character a ton! Keep doing what you love <3
