Issue with Token Light from NPCs not visible to players

I have some NPC tokens that follow a Patrol path and emit light (dim light 15ft, bright light 0ft). The paths move around in an otherwise dark room, so the NPCs (beetles) provide the only light in the room. When I look at the scene as the GM, I see the light exactly as I hope (first picture), but as soon as I select a player token, although I can still see the beetles, the light sources are no longer visible and I can't work out why... Any ideas why this might be?

Open an incognito window in your browser and log in as a player. Selecting player tokens as GM doesn’t give you exactly what the player sees. Not necessarily saying this is the answer, but it’s a much better way to troubleshoot.

I did this (we don't meet until Thursday), but in this case, what the player saw matched what I saw as GM clicking on the player

I found the issue - there seems to be a bug (ironically) with the Flash Beetle as implemented in the pf2e module for Foundry - it has some kind of built-in illumination that in some way interferes with the illumination that can be given to the token. If I add any other creature it works fine... I guess I have the job of copying and pasting all the attributes and descriptions over to a new NPC!

Huh. Weird. Nice catch! And good on you for coming back and posting - might help someone else in the future!

Thanks! Except... I just spent ages copying all the info over to a new NPC and it worked... Until I did *something* and now the light has gone again! Gaaah!

If you haven’t fixed it yet, try entering 60 into Vision Limit field

High-Plains-Grifter

I haven't fixed it yet and will try this after work. All the lighting has been fine until now, I really don't get why it's suddenly a problem - what could have changed?

Been there. Glad it worked. I didn’t realize you were on PF2e. But I had similar issue in DND5e. Setting Max fixed it

I spoke to soon - something I added to my new token has broken it again! I don't know what but will continue to investigate. I doubt we'll get that far tomorrow night anyway..!
