Anyone take more than 225?

Anyone take higher than 225? I have ocd and it typically needs high doses of meds to help. Anyone take more than 225mg?

LadyVictoriaRose

I’m currently on 225 and find it makes me feel numb more than anything. Which I don’t mind. I think the max my psychiatrist said I could go up to was 375 but I’ve also been on them for 6 years now with no issues other than night sweats and low libido. I also take them with a few other medications.

I'm thinking about trying 262.5 and seeing how thay goes. I take abilify with it and I'd feel safer increasing my effexor vs increasing the abilify as it's an antipsychotic and has more side effects.

probablythrowaway71

I'm on 300 and will probably go to 375 after 2 weeks.

Senior-Solid2326

How is it feeling for you?

probablythrowaway71

It's okay, better than SSRI's for my depression (and anxiety). It's not the best but is an improvement.

Engelstrompeten

I'm on 300 and it's saved my life

Senior-Solid2326

Thats wonderful! I'm going to talk to my doc about moving up my dose

Extaze9616

300 (2x150 XR) daily

Senior-Solid2326

Thank you! I'm going to talk to my doc about bumping it up

KikiTheArtTeacher

Yes- I got up to 275 for my OCD/anxiety. It helped tremendously but also made me feel quite deadened/detached. Over time I’ve been able to reduce to 150mg which is my ‘happy medium’- the OCD is there, but not so paralysing, and I am able to experience life and feel feelings. It’s certainly not perfect, but it’s okay.

Senior-Solid2326

Thank you! I can't decide if I should go up on my effexor or my abilify. Or maybe both. I'll see what my doctor thinks. Effexor helped in the beginning but abilify has really been the game changer for my ocd

existcrisis123

I was higher than that at one point over the years (can't remember the dose, just remember knowing it was higher than the "max" dose of 225). Doctor didn't seem concerned about it at all, he mentioned that some people require higher doses and he saw that I didn't really have any major side effects so yeah.

I was on 450MG about a year ago. Caused me to start hallucinating, experiencing psychosis, deliriums, and absolutely thought I was going crazy. Could not sit still, felt like I was crawling out of my skin. Loss of coordination, sweating, shaky. Went to ER. Tested positive for PCP because of this medication. I’m now fully off of it. Thank God! It did not do anything but screw me up! And they wanted to keep giving me more and more. Go figure! In my opinion, this medicine should be outlawed. Hope it works for you!

Senior-Solid2326

Oh my gosh that sounds scary. My doc won't go above 300mg. 450 is a crazy high dose!

tajemniktv

>PCP hey, sorry, what is PCP?

[deleted]

Like street heroin

existcrisis123

PCP??? What the heck

InvestigatorThick648

Just started on 300 MG couple days ago my 225MG stopped working honestly feeling a bit better I see no issue with it just gotta watch my blood pressure with the increase in meds. I don’t think there supposed to prescribe over 300 MG but only in rare cases if the 300 MG stops working I’m going to the sister drug of Effxor I can’t remember the name of it but it was created for people that basically Effxor stops working for them.

InvestigatorThick648

That’s with my medication like just giving out on me mind you I was on 150 MG for 7 years then a year ago stopped work at 225 now I’m pushing 300 for the Same reason

Senior-Solid2326

Oh good to know. I think pristiq is the med you are thinking of. My doc recommended that first but I opted for effexor. I'm going to baby step the increase by 37.5 to see if any of those doses help. I've been on 225mg since May but always felt I needed a little bit more.

InvestigatorThick648

Oh yes I think you’re right about the name!! Yes I would start going up slowly I was just really bad off I think that’s why she moved me up so quick, I take mine for panic attacks.

Senior-Solid2326

I was bad too so we increased quickly for mine as well. I increased every 2 weeks to get to 225mg so I've been there since May so hopefully they will let me increase.

InvestigatorThick648

I feel that def. Has been a wild ride I hope all goes well for you pm me if you ever need anything!! God speed

Is increasing blood pressure a side effect? Because I generally hve low blood pressure. That might be one side effect that’s a positive effect for me

Old-Disaster1948

I’ve just gone from 75mg straight to 300mg (150 in the morning 150 at night) this week. 75 wasn’t doing anything but giving me headaches

UnknownOblivion99

I used to be on 375mg it helped for ocd and anxiety

itsnotme24

At one point I was taking 600. For over a decade I took 450. Now I am at 150 but also take zyprexa. I am much better on the lower dose.

user761345670303

I take 300mg. I have ocd and a whole list of things lol. I find it does absolute wonders :)

princesssmurfet

I am 300mg have been for 8 years.

cronaren

I take 450mg. The brain fog/numbness is pretty bad but I’m assuming it’s better than what I was like off of this drug. Its been so long I don’t remember my ‘real personality’ It’s not like I love this drug or find that it helps a lot, its just that once you go too far you’re kind of stuck taking it unless you want to experience the hellish withdrawal symptoms

Jaytee29

Yeah 300 mg per day

future_CTO

I’m on 225 currently. I’ve been on 225 for years. I do actually want to go higher because have extremely severe OCD and it’s completely ruining my life. It’s so debilitating that I honestly cannot function. I’m only scared about the potential side effects(health ocd) if I increase my dosage.

Senior-Solid2326

I take abilify with mine and that's decreased my ocd a ton. I think I'm going to increase that first and if that doesn't work I'll go for increasing effexor

future_CTO

I’m terrified of medication interactions so not sure if that would be a good idea for me

lambo1109

I was on 300 for a little over a year

Senior-Solid2326

Nice! Did it work well?

lambo1109

It did!

Senior-Solid2326

What do you take it for?

lambo1109

Anxiety and depression. I’m back down on 225 now, and am about to try to lower again.
