They aren’t brewing anymore and Dub is sitting on the building until they can either sell it or start running events again. No idea if the brewery will come back, but all staff were laid off right at the start of the pandemic.
Interesting so the beer on the shelves must be really old.
Or contract brewed somewhere else just to keep the brand out there. But probably old.
Place in Calgary called Last Spike Brewery does exactly this.
Why'd they stop brewing?
Might be worth asking in /r/AlbertaBeer. Lots of industry folks there who can probably answer better.
I found this under a two-month old post there, seems to answer /u/stiff_mitten's question (closed, sadly)
Their beer is still being stocked. So I’m assuming they’re still brewing.
Probably just closed event space and brewery for in person stuff.
Where have you seen it stocked, I'd like to pick up a few cans before it's gone for good.
I believe the last time I was at the New Castle sobeys liqour store they had some. Not too sure if it'll be any good depending on when it was brewed.
I've found this with a few of the craft brewery's if you get a can that's around a year old the taste can be way off.
Ah thanks for the head up on the potential taste issue. Might just let it be and keep the good Yellowhead memories I have. Shame the place is gone, felt like it had really been picking up and experimenting more before Covid hit.
That might have been the issue but that spot seems to be cursed for brewers.
Let's be honest. With a few of the craft breweries, you don't have to wait a week, let alone a year for the the taste to be way off... 🤣🤣
Unpasteurized beer will last about a year, but stores will often turn a blind eye and keep it on the shelf. Coincidentally it'll usually be on sale too.
Pretty sure I’ve heard the brewery is shut down.
Was supposed to be our wedding venue for last summer (postponed obviously). Now their parent company doesn't even respond to emails.
Because they're shitty people who don't care much about customers. If I sound bitter it's because I was briefly in semi-business with them.
Very rarely have I had a good Yellowhead beer. Every time I ordered draft from a bar it taste funky. It's a shame because every time I have filled up a growler straight for the source it's good.
Their salad was literally the best salad I've ever had. I wish I had the recipe.
