I would say to get Roland, then invest in units. 4*/Premium generals have Hero Legends, get more for more resources, like Mithril. Consider revising some setups, like 2/3 Varangians for Cnut (Vikings are pretty bad). Get El Cid's Conquistadors for some more archer firepower. I don't like Baldwin (gimmicky, meatshield) or Barbarossa (reinforcement troop) in combat. They are itemless (for F2P) and are mainly support/meatshields. You can get them for their HL, you have no problem with the cost. Barb has the excellent Teutons in his HL. If you do have their items, they become MUCH better and are worthwhile purchases. You can invest territory coins for Caesar's Commentaries for Matilda of Boulogne, for 2 turn Calmness in a melee cav general (so she's pretty fast, but mediocre in combat). You could also get the Code of Medicine for Eleanor of Aquitaine for faster healing.

barbarosa and henry II or philip II

I have been thinking of getting barbarossa for a long time now, was comparing him to Bladwin. Henry looks pretty good actually.

Baldwin is amazing. Don’t bother with Barbarossa cause his unique item is annoying to get. Get Baldwin. Alexios is also fantastic. I highly recommend both

I haven't considered Alexios actually. I just don't have his elephants yet. He looks good too. There are sooo many choices.🤔

Besides all my in app purchase generals here are my top three: Baldwin IV Alfred the Great Alexios I Frederick I and El Cid are up there too. I haven’t gotten the unique item for Nevsky yet, but I know he’s good. Baldwin, more than anyone else, is the best general in the game, excluding iap

I mean I would get Barb and Baldwin as many others have suggested. If you were short on medals I wouldn't make this suggestion, but since you are overflowing with medals you might as well buy them both. They both provide good melee cav units, knights of Holy Selpuchle and Teutons. Also, both gens deal a decent amount of damage. Additionally, both have hero legends. Alexios is also worth if you have his weapon. More importantly, I would focus on upgrading unit levels. Also, saving up for next update as 8 new units are coming out and potentially 3-5 gens at least.
