OP is proud of his engineering

I love **LOVE** how this is anti-engineered. It uses the weakest mode for every component.
the threaded rod reminds me immediately of [that hotel catwalk collapse from the 80s](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyatt_Regency_walkway_collapse#:~:text=Investigators%20found%20that%20the%20collapse,under%20the%20fourth%2Dfloor%20walkway).
my engineering teacher told us that one story, and literally everything ive designed since has been over built as fuck lol
and I avoid structural threaded rod under 1.5" like the plague
so this? this triggers me
The issue wasn't the threaded rod but the way the rod was loaded. https://youtu.be/VnvGwFegbC8 I just watched an video on this last weekend.
Edit: in fact the flaw was added by the fabricator to avoid using threaded hanger rods.
Really good video. I've read about the Hyatt walkway disaster before, but the video does a great job of ELI5 the load difference on the upper walkway nuts.
Great way of putting it, haha. So true
I'm sure that all thread is at least grade 3.
The moment he pulls literally anything it’s gonna rip right off
It's going to do more than put holes in the bumper. XD
Propably not if they dont accelarate too quick those spiral rods have a little give. But when you push on brake the trailer will smash back into that lexus.
Pulling anything is going to flex those rods and pull the L brackets inward.
Not to mention what simply putting the weight of a trailer on that is going to do.
It would more than likely snap from those loads.
Somedays I feel that we engineers are not needet. Today is not one of those days.
7lbs towing capacity.
It’ll work fine long as you don’t pull anything bigger than a stroller
That thing’s gonna snap like a twig. Also I love how it’s a Lexus.
So will it be the all thread or the 1/4 20 bolts that give out first?
I’d wager the rod just snaps under the side load.
Oh no. That’s not how hitches work.
I feel like I could bend this just by pulling it...
... until he tries to tow soemthing qnd rips the whole bumper off.
I hope it breaks before he gets into the freeway.
Towing capacity of 15lbs?
Even tows 54 pounds!
Nice 50lbs shear pins
What is he planning to tow? A tricycle?
