Honestly, anywhere in downtown/midtown/New Center will suit you. Stay downtown and you'll be near some of the best restaurants. By then, the QLine will be back up and running, you can always take it up to Midtown (museums) and New Center (more museums, music, and restaurants).

Stringslingers

must see Campus Martius and the river walk. easy to get too, outdoors and lots of things to see.

Welcome! If you're only going to be here a weeknight, I would look to stay somewhere in greater downtown (Downtown, Midtown, Corktown). You can take the Qline (light rail) around or rent a bike easily in this area. The best park in the city is Belle Isle, but make sure to go there early cause they have been shutting down entry some days due to overcrowding. Otherwise, make sure to try some Detroit style pizza and get some pics of The Spirit of Detroit and the Joe Louis fist!

QLine isn't running right now. Take the bus. You will be able to get more places.

I was Downtown on Tuesday afternoon, the QLine is running. Wether or not it’s efficient is another story.

tommy_wye

It's running tests, but not taking passengers.

xoceanblue08

Ahh, good to know. I would think they would probably start running in July when the rest of state restrictions expire.

thinkingzen

I think revenue service is scheduled for September

tommy_wye

July at the very earliest, I know DPM should be starting back up in July

East_Englishman

Damn, I thought it would be back up by now. Looks like they have a ambiguous "summer 2021" return date.

>Damn, I thought it would be back up by now. Looks like they have a ambiguous "summer 2021" return date. I tried to find a better answer, and came across the QLine Twitter account, which recently shared a post about Dutch Girl Donuts... Which is hilarious since the line stops about 4 miles shy of Dutch Girl. Also, summer is still a couple weeks away, maybe they'll be up and running soon, but it does say "late summer" so maybe August/September is more realistic.

converter-bot

4 miles is 6.44 km

tommy_wye

Nope. The gentrification machine is running test excursions but not taking passengers. DDOT and SMART buses have been running without a halt for the entire pandemic. They are, and always have been, much more useful than the pathetic QLine, so next time tell people they're an option, thanks.

East_Englishman

Yeah, the buses are way better for everyday commuting, but the Qline is a fun gimmick for tourists. Didn't realize I would offend by suggesting its use 🤣

tommy_wye

Well, the buses are arguably a better experience, because the QLine gets blocked by parked cars and other interlopers that it can't swerve around. Now the People Mover, that's the transit system I wish was back online.

Hamtramck is a gem. Great for dive bars, and cultural cuisine. There is a hostel in the area as well.
