They smell with their tongue.
Smells are just tiny particles in the air. Snakes (and a few lizards) have a special organ in the roof of their mouth called a Jacobson Organ. They flick their tongue out, then press it against the Jacobson Organ to smell what's around them. Their sense of smell is excellent.
Snakes explore the world through scent, like dogs, rats or cats do. Their eyesight and hearing are both kinda bad.
It is, and while I'm not remotely snake-phobic, I found it fascinating just how strongly the cobra's hood is symbolic of danger. If this had been any other kind of snake, I would have immediately found it cute, but that was seriously mixed with menace here for me.
King cobras are snake eaters, while they may eat an occasional rodent if given the opportunity they would go after native snake species more than anything and actually increase pest/rodent populations
Thanks for the info, you are so right, but they aren't very aggressive to humans, they do eat other venomous snakes and have a part in maintaining a balanced ecosystem, right?
Sorry if this is long, but to my knowledge it would depend on the specific circumstances of this particular snake. If it were originally caught in the wild and then was released back into its native habitat (India, China, Indonesia, etc) then yes of course, these snakes like all other species play a role in the balance of their native ecosystems. But this snake is a pet thatās most likely located outside of its native habitat, which if released would be a big problem because the temperature/environment would probably be wrong and even if it did survive would absolutely be considered a dangerous and invasive species. Also if this snake was born in captivity it probably never learned the tools and skills it would need to survive and hunt as a wild animal (like captive born zoo animals that canāt be released because they wouldnāt survive). Contrary to some peopleās opinions I do believe snakes have the ability to feel a range of emotions and thoughts, but at a much more simplistic scale. So as long as this cobra is fed, watered, warm, and has enrichment for climbing/stretching out, itās probably happier in captivity than any of its cobra friends roughing it in the wildš
He is a beautiful creature, you probably have a point about this individuals hunting skills, and snakes like the Anacondas getting loosed in Florida, USA are good examples for not allowing them to get loose where they don't belong lol. They have Tegu problems too, from the exotic pet industry.
This snake could be a venomoid (venom glands are removed surgically). Which doesnāt make it much better, since they should all be handled with the same amount of respect and proper measures
That's a big nope from me.
he's chillin though, didn't puff out his snake flaps? whatever tf those are
I dont know what theyre called but i hope they are in fact called Snake Flaps.
is the tongue used for exploring the environment? like we use our eyes?

Thank you! So the snake is sensing the person.
Yes, the snake is checking out the camera and the person holding it! Probably checking if they are food or have food - snakes aren't very smart. š
Still fascinating!
King cobras actually have great vision since they're visual hunters and don't use heat like other snakes.
I think only pit vipers, pythons and boas have the ability to sense infrared radiation from warm bodies.
The rest use scent like the comment I replied to stated. I was just adding that king cobras use vision and have great sight.
Kinda cute tbh

It just wants to give a little kiss to the cameraman.
Yeah a "kiss" alright
What a majestic badass creature, he deserves to be free
Yeah, a killing machine should be let free... yeah, bro.
He can hunt pests

Not to mention could seriously injure/kill people and pets bc theyāre insanely venomous.. lol

No thanks I'm good with a German sheperd
Its massive wtf
That's what she said
I believe Kings are the largest of the venomous snakes.
Sorry dawg it's gonna be a no for me.
Surprisingly chill about being touched. More into checking out the camera than reminding this dude to respect his personal space.
I've seen other footage of King Cobras checking out the cameras filming them! They seem naturally very curious snakes.
Forbidden boop-the-snoot
Oh man I worked up some anxiety watching this video
My anxiety is off the roof for that guy's safety
Why do some people feel the need to risk their lives for likes on a video?
Thereās a dipshit in FL on YouTube who has been in the hospital multiple times due to his venomous snake collection. Florida is such trash.
Why do this? I assume the cameraman will be in a world of poop if he gets bitten.
FUCK YOU
