They used a surface to air missile that's meant for taking down aircraft to shoot down a cruise missile. Cruise missiles travel a lot faster and are smaller so that's why this shot was so amazing.
Key to knowing the difficulty of this, is the fact that MANPADS (Man Portable Air Defense Systems) typically lock on the heat produced by the engines of the plane/helicopter. Big engines produce more heat and the missile locks faster and better.
In this case, the engine on a cruise missile is a lot smaller and a bit cooler than most fighter jets. Couple that with a relatively fast speed (0.8 mach), and you have a very short time window to shoot and hit the enemy missile before your own missile runs out of energy and misses.
Really nice shot.
I'm amazed the shot was attempted. Dude perfect, your move
That was some halo 2 shit right there

To be fair the Ukrainian military doesn't seem to know what "not designed for" means, as evidenced by their exploits since the beginning of the war.
So so cool. Fantastic shot. A tale that will be told for decades to come.
A repost for the ages was born today.
Nailing an incredible shot feels great. I can't imagine the high this dude had from hitting that missile.
