Men in Black 2 told me that you can get a lobster dinner in Cambodia for like a dollar. David Cross's videostore girlfriend said so.
Also Angkor Wat and the other temples are cool AF
Yes. Cambodia can be a little more "rough" than its neighbors in Thailand and Vietnam but it is still a safe place to travel. Kampot is nice! Sukville next door is a little sketchy.
You mean Sihanoukville? I spent 2 weeks with my boyfriend there back when I was 20yo. Was lovely. I felt completely safe travelling Cambodia, no difference to when I travelled Thailand, Lao, or Vietnam.
What year would that have been? I was there last in 2014 and it was not the quant little beach town it was when I had first visited. I've heard it has gotten worse with a bunch of half built Chinese funded casinos. Lots of migrants workers. Beachfront doesn't really exist anymore. Its sad, but I guess it's progress. But yes, I agree... Cambodia is a safe country to travel to.
It would have been late 2017/early 2018. You’re right about the casinos, the locals are extremely upset about the effects the Chinese are having there. Apart from that it’s quite nice and people are generally quite happy. I stayed at The Easy Panda hostel (lovely huts on the beach). Just looked it up now and says permanently closed which is a shame. Maybe things have changed more since I was there.
Yep it’s a very unfortunate huge industry and there is such poverty parents will use the money to just live and now they can just zoom their victims. There are some crazy documentaries. And also to ensnare and also save kids from the abuse they are making virtual children that look super real. They were discussing it saves actual abuse on children and also used to bust the sick people who are doing it. Americans and others can go there and freely abuse children very young some were 9 years old. They are so used to doing sexual acts for money and food if you go to the places the adults keep them, they just run up to the people and say what they will do for you. The one POS American guy had been caught there traveling just for sexual purposes so many times that the child advocates and police operations would set up sting operations right when he touched down from his flight. They would catch him and take him to the airport. He was a horrid pig and never got in trouble for it because the money was American. 💔 It makes me so mad 😡.
I was able to find many sources of the issue of underage sexual encounters in Cambodia from a quick Google search. Certainly raises an eyebrow for why older people would travel there alone but that’s obviously not the only reason. It exists, it happens, but I guess you need a “source” to truly believe that because in your eyes the world is so perfect lol
Not odd at all. There are solo travelers everywhere. I’ve traveled all over SE Asia by myself so what does that make me? I’ve traveled all over the US by myself too so does that get me labeled by people who have probably never left their city?
It makes you someone who seems way too emotionally dedicated to not being correlated with the high amounts of child rape that takes place in the country you went to by yourself.
Your comment makes you seem like an ignorant idiot who doesn’t leave their house much.
There will be 500,000 babies born in the US this year that will be sexually abused before they turn 18 if we do not prevent it. Should I Stop traveling the US?
https://amp.ibtimes.co.uk/child-sexual-abuse-top-5-countries-highest-rates-1436162
Hopefully you don’t live in the US or UK because it makes you seem emotionally dedicated to not being correlated with the high amounts of child abuse in those countries. Whatever that means lol.
Don't take it personally when people think you're a creep for going to Thailand alone like the guy in a trenchcoat by himself in the back of the movie theater
Why would I take anything personally? Especially on the internet. It’s just a shit take and you’re backing it up. Funny enough it’s always from people who have never traveled, have very little experience or are scared to travel alone so they make solo travelers out to be creeps.
If that’s the first thing you can think about when you hear of someone traveling alone to Thailand, it just shows your level of intelligence and or age. Or you’re projecting…
Lol projection at its finest. What makes it even funnier is a quick glance at your profile and your literal first post is about kids…
You’re exactly the kind of person who’s mind immediately goes there. Seek help.
Ugh! I don't think I would be able to visit a place like that so, thanks for saying & sorry you had to witness that. I would get arrested and deported. Tbf, they're not the only place that turns a blind eye, it happens everywhere. I've seen it happen in the good ol' USA too. 🤬
I'm a local, reason why people come to Cambodia is because it's cheaper than any other countries. Starting a business here doesn't cost as much as Europe or America. Alot of elderly people love to stay here after retirement because like I said it is cheap. Also there are alot of interesting historical temples as well.
This feels strangely xenophobic because it invalidates entire nations of being valid and beautiful on its own merits.
Imagine someone implied that anyone visiting your country was a child abuser, that'd feel awful too.
What about say Germany, or Czech? Where prostitution is legal. Are you judgmental about men traveling to those countries? What about Las Vegas? Anyone who goes there must be a whore mongering degenerate right?
My elderly uncle died similarly in the Philippines. He had flown over to meet an online lady friend (this was shortly after divorcing his first Philipino online wife) and died while visiting her. She did call his kids to let them know. They were all so mad at him for going over there again that they wouldn't claim his body or fly it home.
I'm assuming there were other things at play in their lives than just that. Dad running off to get young wives doesn't seem like he would have been the best father figure.
Joe Kent Roberts from Texas died of natural causes in his Kampot guesthouse on April 1, and the embassy has still been unable to notify his family.
Instead, they notified a 70 year old lady from his church about his death and are leaving it up to her to get in touch with his son and brother to break the bad news.

Don't be immature and down vote just bc you don't agree. This is a subreddit rule, please be more mature here. And idk, why don't you contact the Cambodian/American embassy to ask yourself. Im merely going off what I've gathered from articles.
the process of decay is fascinating on how it makes someone look so much unlike themselves. in my time shadowing and als paramedic the bodies i had seen were recently deceased (overdose, heart attack etc..). it really makes me think about the bodies of missing people all over the place, either reduced to bones of having lost their identity to just a Jane/John Doe
Decomposition is never pretty, but in the heat of summer, that level of decomposition could be seen in a day or two. If he's in air conditioning and protected from blowflies, etc, it could be closer to a week.
I do autopsies for a living in a forensic crime lab. We have to document the level of decomposition, if any, for every body we get. This man would've been considered "early decomp" and doesn't even come close to "moderate" or "advanced". Not here to argue about the way your post is titled, just a difference of perspective! Great post!
In my opinion, it looks like his position was moved from what his position would've been during decomposition. The paler, whiter patches you see on the left side of his face and the center of his chest look like areas of compression when lividity (livor mortis) began. Lividity is basically the blood settling to the lowest gravity point except in areas under compression (e.g., the areas under compression when you're lying on your back would be your butt, calves, shoulders, etc.). The areas under compression would not turn the reddish-purple color seen in lividity and remain the person's skin tone.

Same thing happened to my grandpa’s old work partner. We went to visit him but once my grandpa entered the house he left the house while crying and he didnt letted me in cuz corpse was looking too bad to look according to him.
Hmmm, I wonder what a 70 year old man from Texas was doing in Cambodia?
Men in Black 2 told me that you can get a lobster dinner in Cambodia for like a dollar. David Cross's videostore girlfriend said so. Also Angkor Wat and the other temples are cool AF
In Kampot specifically you can get $5 bucket of crabs. 50cent beers looking out at the gulf of Thailand. Decent spot, and super cheap.
Is it a safe place for solo traveler?
Yes. Cambodia can be a little more "rough" than its neighbors in Thailand and Vietnam but it is still a safe place to travel. Kampot is nice! Sukville next door is a little sketchy.

Sukville? You mean like where your *mom* is from?!?! Kidding kidding couldn’t resist
David Cross: A legend in the MiB 2 world and also he does some comedy on the side.
Believe it or not, there are other reasons to live overseas than just to abuse kids. Also, why does you brain immediately go there?
Because that’s a massive and awful industry
Yep it’s a very unfortunate huge industry and there is such poverty parents will use the money to just live and now they can just zoom their victims. There are some crazy documentaries. Cos that’s why a huge amount of them go there.

Damn you can get away with anything just by calling someone racist or accuse them of culturally appropriating. Even child rape!
Oh no, that sounds awful! What do you mean?
Not just anyone - his demographic, solo traveler, died mysteriously.
Where does it say that he died mysteriously? I only see "died of natural causes"
Sounds like a mission trip. All his identifying info was through the church.
I’m going to Thailand and Cambodia in 10 days for vacation? Why are people so weird about American dudes going there
There's a lot of sex tourism
What about say Germany, or Czech? Where prostitution is legal. Are you judgmental about men traveling to those countries? What about Las Vegas? Anyone who goes there must be a whore mongering degenerate right?
No idgaf. I was just explaining the context.
Want to add. Sex tourism often catered to pedophiles. There has been some good documentaries about it. Also lots of men have asian women fetish
Elaborate?
> Why are people so weird about American dudes going there Can’t tell if you’re being completely serious, or completely naive.
More people go there just for travel the. Pedophilia dude…
[It's just kind of a stereotype](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctDjnG8J9cY)
I’m in Laos now and haven’t seen very much prostitution just a lot of backpackers over here in SE asi
My question exactly…
There's a lot of reasons. It's cheaper, but it's also a really common church missionary spot.
I believe he was a missionary? I’ll look into it further but that’s the information I have right now.
Not everybody wants to fuck children dude.

We don't victim shame here please.
Good point, deleted
No problem, thank you for being sweet about it. In all reality, we don't know his story. We can only assume.
Thought the same thing..
From Texas
[Getting some of that fine Cambodian breast milk](https://youtu.be/7Cr9FPn1GH0)
He’s diddling the kids, no doubt about it.
Yep.
Traveling? Pretty sure he was a missionary. Don’t assume this man is a pedo for simply traveling to a new place. It’s disrespectful.

Damn you’re just scrolling through Reddit one day and then BOOM there’s your dead dad / brother bloated to hell.
I wonder how much effort the US would put into finding a random 70year old Cambodians family…
From what I read it was the Cambodian government who dropped the ball on notification.
Yes I’m reversing the situation since you are laying a lot of blame on Cambodia in your comment

Thank you, I'm just passing along a fellow Redditor's research from DR. You're greatly appreciated here!
Beverly over here keepin it brief
The dead body photos are very reminiscent of the Chris Farley photos. So eerie and horrific.
Okay question, it looks like his tongue is sticking out or something, what’s going on with the decomposition?
He is in the bloating stage, that is his swollen tongue.
jesus christ
the process of decay is fascinating on how it makes someone look so much unlike themselves. in my time shadowing and als paramedic the bodies i had seen were recently deceased (overdose, heart attack etc..). it really makes me think about the bodies of missing people all over the place, either reduced to bones of having lost their identity to just a Jane/John Doe

2022-1942 = 80
Yes, but he died in April of 2016 before his birthday in November. He was 73 years old, sorry I put the church woman's age. But no he wasn't 80.

Yes, he died in 2016...
Is that his tongue all bloated & sticking out? I can’t quite tell for sure.

What would cause such a disparity in decomp in the face? Was one side face down and the other side in the sun?
