Ikr. Before we started batting, I said to my friend that I don't mind if we lose as long as we get close enough to make India shit themselves a little bit.
Then the exact fucking thing happened.
Honestly speaking, the Indian team doesn't deserve to win this match....
Firstly, while batting, apart from Gill, nobody played decently.
Surya started but perished quickly...
And the other batters were the same....nobody contributed....
And even Gill got 3 life chances (not taking away his awesome performance but if any of the chances were grabbed, he too would have perished much earlier).
While bowling, we started satisfactorily but in the later part, gave away too many runs...
Too many wides, too many short balls, too many mis-directed balls...
Bracewell almost got away with his mind blowing innings....he deserved the Man of the match...
Above mentioned thoughts are just my personal opinion....
I feel that since the World cup is not very far, we need to improve more....
E.g. Rohit needs to start performing....
Just hitting a quick 30s/40s would do no good...
I was talking about the bigger picture....
Winning a single match won't matter much w.r.t. what's almost around the corner.....The World Cup.....
And that World cup is in India.....
And still the performance is not up to the mark....
Still we are struggling to finish matches....
Still top order is not performing to its full calibre
Lots to think about....
India beat the current World No#1 Team, NewZealand by 12 runs in the first ODI of the 3 match series at Hyderabad today. India scored a mammoth 349/8 and Kiwis fall short of just 12 runs when they got all out with 4 deliveries to spare in the 50'th over.
Gill: Boy what a player he is turning out to be, especially in both the longer formats of the game. I have been watching this guy since the Under 19 WC back in 2017-18, where he was adjudged the Man of the Series after scoring 1 Century & 3 big fifties, when we lifted the WC.
In International cricket, he came to the limelight in 2020-21 season when he scored 91 in the famous Gabba Test against the Aussies in the 4'th innings, which paved the strong basement for Rishabh Pant to take us over the line for an Epic Series Victory.
Gill's recent performances in the last 3-4 ODI series, he has been a synonym for Consistency. No wonder today he has became the 3'rd fastest to reach 1000 ODI runs, in just 19 innings. Just compare this with Kohli's 24 & Sachin's 34 ODI innings to reach the same milestone.
Similar to Kohli, Gill also plays risk free cricket, hitting 90-95% of his scoring shots along the ground, at least till he reached his Century. Today he got 2 lives at 45 (stumping chance) & 124 (dropped) respectively, but he will take that any day.
After hitting an 85 ball Century, his 3'rd in ODIs, he went into overdrive, especially when wickets kept falling around him but still he didn't let the momentum & runrate fade, went on to hit his second century in the next 55 deliveries he faced, to become the youngest batsman to score a Double Ton in ODIs bettering Ishan Kishan's 1 month old World record.
Also what a way to reach his maiden Double Ton in ODIs, from 182 to 200 runs in just 3 deliveries, by hitting hatrick sixes against one of the fastest bowlers in the World, Lockie Ferguson!! Gill's 208(149) today was studded with 19 fours & 9 sixes, out of which 7 sixes he hit after scoring his Century!
India's Lack of Momentum Towards End: Rohit 34(38), SKY 31(26) & Pandya 28(38) got good starts but couldn't convert them into big scores. Had any of these stayed with Gill till the end, we could have scored something close to 400 instead of 349/8.
In recent times, India seems to lack firepower at the backend of their innings, especially with Jadeja's absence, which needs to be taken care of, at least before the upcoming WC, this October. Earlier Kohli was castled by a beauty from Santner & Ishan edged one to the keeper against Ferguson, again showcasing flaws in his technique especially against deliveries outside his off stump!
Kiwi's Fightback: Despite losing 6 top order batsmen, including their stand in captain Tom Latham who has the best average & figures against India, for just 130 in 28 overs while chasing a mammoth 350 runs, what a fight back from the Kiwis to score 337, thanks to an unexpected & unbelievable 162 partnership between Bracewell & Santner in just 110 deliveries.
Towards the last 5 overs, Kiwis started loosing their remaining wickets & eventually got all out at 337 with another 4 deliveries to spare in the 50'th over, if not Bracewell would have taken this game away from us.
Shardul Thakur held his nerves despite being hit for a six in the very first delivery of the 50'th over, bowled a yorker to get Bracewell plumb in front to end the Kiwis fightback. Santner scored a brilliant 57(45) giving more than a handy support to Bracewell.
Bracewell: Just playing his 17'th ODI, he scored 140 from just 78 deliveries, with 12 fours & 10 huge sixes. Almost till the 30'th over Indian bowling was dominant but felt like a bunch of scattered leaves when Bracewell started hitting every other bowler all around the ground. Only Siraj seems to have bowled decently against him today.
India's Poor Bowling at the Backend of every Innings: In the last one year or so, India has let the opponent bowlers score 4 individual Centuries including the recent series against Bangladesh, Srilanka & today against the Kiwis! That's one big flaw, that they would love to scrap off, especially before the bigger matches in the upcoming WC.
In the recent times, despite coming up with good bowling upfront and right after managing to take the price wickets of almost all opponent top order batsmen, the same bowling line up kinda wobbles while bowling against the lower order, especially for the last 4 wickets. Twice this have caused us losing the match against the Bangladesh but after that, luckily we managed to survive only because of the big runs we have scored upfront!
Siraj: Another star in the making for India, especially in ODIs & Tests. During Bumrah's absence in the recent 7-8 months or more, Siraj is the one to make the most of it. Currently he has the best Strike Rate among ODI bowlers during the powerplay. He has been consistently providing us crucial breakthroughs, especially at the start of the innings.
Today also, Siraj started with taking the price wicket of Devon Conway, their inform batsman. Then there was a patch of some 4 overs from over 5 to 8 during the first power play, where Siraj & Shami combined to produce one of the fierce spells where Kiwis couldn't score a single run for almost 4 overs, till Shami got injured & left the field for sometime.
In the second spell, Siraj took out their Captain Tom Latham at a crucial juncture. Later in his 3'rd spell he eventually broke the 162 run partnership by taking Santner's wicket & also bowled Shipley in the very next delivery, to end his quota with figures of 46/2 in his 10 overs.
Kuldeep's Return: Among the two wrist spinners that we currently have, Chahal had a longer run in Indian jersey in the last couple of years, but what a comeback from Kuldeep now. Against the lankans in the recently completed series Kuldeep has taken many crucial wickets in the middle overs.
Today also Kuldeep surprised the Kiwi batsmen with his googlies & variations to scalp 2 crucial wickets in the middle overs. His return in form can be a value add to us in the upcoming WC, since we are hosting this WC this year, after 12 long years & Indian spin friendly pitches could be a game changer for us with Kuldeep in the line-up!
Shubhman Gill was rightfully adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant Double Ton! 😎
Interesting last ball. Bracewell started shaking hands before the third umpire's decision cuz he knew that Williamson had bribed all three umpires (refer to Hardik's dismissal). He thought India will concede the match at that point, but little did he know that Rohit has bribed the TV operator.
Nohit deserves A SOLID kick up his rear side. The heck was he thinking while holding back Kuldeep & shardul.
Sundar got tonked and that started the miscalculations.
Hardik's strategy is bowl bouncers and hard length + speed change
Hardik does that
Also, broadcasts his strategy in public (post-match presentations)
Hardik goes for runs as the batsman knows what he's gonna do.
See the pattern here
Hardik not smart
Hardik playing 5d Chess here.
He is not gonna do everything he mentions when we play WC finals, whether we reach finals in the first place is none of his concern.
😂😂
he was great red ball bowler in ranji ,, then went on to have success in tests which seems to have rubbed on to his ODI bowling... nice to see his improvement in white ball
Miyan picking up a 5 wicket haul in Hyderabad which is where it all started for him would've been perfect but it wasn't meant to be. He just keeps getting better and better with time and it's difficult to not love that guy
Fuck I badly wanted a 200 in defeat
Edit: Indian fans here make the worst use of the downvote button, and when someone else uses it to disagree they're reminded of some guideline about how downvotes are not to disagree. Nice double standards.
Still don't understand why Rohit didn't bowl out Kuldeep. Or atleast waited until they really went after him to pull him out of the attack.
Bracewell looked a bit out in the sea against Abrar of Pakistan. Would've thought they would attack him with Kuldeep when he was still new to the crease.
Rohit allowed the game to just float in the middle over by bowling an already expensive Pandya. Weird tactics.
>Bracewell: Unfortunately, it wasn't my day.
Bruh. It's like the topper kid in your group project saying that he is sorry for only getting us 29/30 in the assignment.
Can't believe people are undermining Gill's innings because of Bracewell. Sure Bracewell played really good doesn't mean Gill's wasn't important. The next highest score after gill was 34 runs. If Gill got out early we wouldn't have this score to defend.
I am not undermining Gill's innings. But building and chasing is different. Bracewell almost snatched an easily winnable match from India, from a position where New Zealand was looking in very bad shape. Scoring a 200 is a huge deal so yes, Gill's innings will be rated higher.
If only most of the internet thinks this way... its always about putting down someone to make the other look great/good,, i really dont understand why most people constantly do that
People need to make their minds on Washi. one day they will complain about him not getting picked and how his potential is wasted and the next day, they want him to dropped, Want players to get a long rope to prove themselves but question a player's selection after a bad performance
Why does Hardik always try to look so “cold”? Hasn't anyone told him that it doesn't suit his face, all the fake aggression and pride? The dude needs to be humbled fr
I don't see that when he plays for rcb. Totally different person there.
But this pandya guy is famous for his arrogance. His death stares and abuses defines his personality.
Everyone talks about his captaincy and that he is likely to be given t20 captaincy. It will be mentally disturbing for anyone to play under him.
Everything apart. These kiwi folls are just so humble and cool headed.
Bracewell played well but for everyone calling this a better innings than Gill’s are out of their mind. When lights took effect batting became distinctly easy. Even Santner knock was effortless. Compare that with Gill who played with wickets regularly falling form other end still scored 8th highest score in ODIs with pitch not really a belter it was under lights!
Fr tho, bracewell was impeccable but gill literally scored throughout the 50 overs while the next best score being 34, i get the sentiment but calling his knock better than gill's is not it imo.
In nutshell: **India need one spinner all-rounder at Indian pitches.** It’s a must. Dhoni used spinners as weapons in the middle overs.
Jaddu/ Axar have to be there in final 11
Such a shame that ODIs are dead.
Otherwise, I think I might have seen a team with a double centurion come hair-length close to losing because a no. 7 in opposition struck 140 at 180 sr after his team was 131/6.
But too bad. ODIs are dead.
Hardik Pandya will bowl short ball after short ball and not even attempt an yorker. He needs to work on this as he doesnt seem comfortable with bowling yorkers.
Good that someone sees the silver lining. He was bowling short ball after short ball because of his bloated ego that led to him conceding 66 off 6 before the penultimate over.
One of those rare games in which the Away team hit more 4s and 6s than the home team, conceded less extras and still ended up losing the match by 12 runs.
New Zealand hit 35 fours and 13 sixes compared to India who hit 31 fours and 11 sixes.
New Zealand also conceded fewer extras 13 vs India who conceded 19 extras
Nah, Gill was better but I guess I'm biased. Either way, what a freak this bracewell guy is. The team would do well to find a way to trap him in the next game otherwise we're screwed.
Man this Indian team is so unprofessional..Wides, extras, death bowling looks like no one knows what they are doing...people don't even attempt Yorkers forget wide Yorkers..hardly any variations..
if the batsman makes a mistake you get the wicket..You can see the incompetence by the fact that they bowled a good length delivery to the number 11..Just shows lack of practice ..
just shows that no one cares..I don't know how we manage this with the largest population in the world but it is an amazing feat..
These mfs just hope any how a cutter ball will give them wicket. If that doesn't work and batsman start bashing him, instead of backing their strength they bowl wides
Any Overseas player now gets injured…Bracewell Should be picked as replacement…coz he’s proved on multiple occasions he can dominate in these conditions & very handy with the ball too
Still wondering Kuldeep with tht economy should have finished his quota. You got to trust your spinners on Indian pitches in the middle overs. If not in subcontinent then where?
I think this was good because there were plenty of runs in it, but still enough for the bowlers. Not every batter was able to dominate, but the ones who played really well were able to carve it up.
Hardik is a star player no matter what. But he tries too much to look 'cool' on field, it doesn't looks natural. Deep down he looks insecure idk why i feel this
Imo coming from a small place i can understand why he does that sometimes, as koach told in an interview like he hears English music but he doesn't understand one bit of it jokingly, but i guess he does these antiques to seek validation, too give a impression of how he is so cool n all. He has changed a lil now but it will take some time .
The match was incredible. I managed to raise some money by betting on this event at parimatch.
I agree with you. I like betting on [parimatch.in](https://parimatch.in) too. They're really reliable and offer many payment methods.
Personally I like this bookmaker because it offers more than 10 ways of replenishing your account, including crypto.
I stopped watching when NZ were 5 wicket down ffs
u/ITTAuto
Are you fucking kidding me, I went to sleep when we were 6 down and Bracewell almost fucking did it again
Quite pissed off. I threw the towel in too I thought we were gone. Fuck
Ikr. Before we started batting, I said to my friend that I don't mind if we lose as long as we get close enough to make India shit themselves a little bit. Then the exact fucking thing happened.

Why Lord Thakur played today instead of Umran?

You kind of answered the question yourself
How?
HE IS LORD
batting depth (not sure he brings any anymore)
Plus Umran can be an enforcer in the middle overs
I hope Gill opens in BGT, he definitely has a couple of centuries in him if he plays.
Interesting last ball. Bracewell started shaking hands before the third umpire's decision cuz he knew that Williamson had bribed all three umpires (refer to Hardik's dismissal). He thought India will concede the match at that point, but little did he know that Rohit has bribed the TV operator.
What a way to cap off a brilliant day of cricket, this game, Zim vs Ire and the MICT vs SEC match all thrillers.
The Nz school team almond snatched the game away form india.
Not a school team when u have tom latham and conway
Thats what some people said when they announced the squad.
So were u being sarcastic in og comment
So far home season is going great. BCCI and Broadcasters must be swimming in a pool of money.
I hope that all the people that say that this format of the game is dying have watched every ball of this match.
Cricket fans won today
This dew factor sucks.. i dont think any sport has such massive advantage with toss
Ashwin suggested that matches should have an early start to minimize dew.
Nohit deserves A SOLID kick up his rear side. The heck was he thinking while holding back Kuldeep & shardul. Sundar got tonked and that started the miscalculations.
He acknowledged that
We expected that. But has he learned anything after shanaka getting in the way... That too more than once?
Why do they call him professor Bracewell
Hardik's strategy is bowl bouncers and hard length + speed change Hardik does that Also, broadcasts his strategy in public (post-match presentations) Hardik goes for runs as the batsman knows what he's gonna do. See the pattern here Hardik not smart

Dude Gill is so soft spoken, it's, surprising, almost Idk why
If you listen to him speaking in hindi. You'll run.
why?
Pull out the *microphone* Shubman, you'll be using it a lot today. \-Harsha
I love Miyan’s energy, he’s so good now. Most improved Indian Cricketer in recent times for sure
he was great red ball bowler in ranji ,, then went on to have success in tests which seems to have rubbed on to his ODI bowling... nice to see his improvement in white ball
Matches should start at 11:30 instead of 1:30.
most of the working class disagrees
True but broadcasters disagree
Can we have a solid middle ground at 12:30 ?
am
Is Harsha Bhogle wearing lifts or standing on a platform?
Gill hasn't reached puberty yet. Imagine him hitting puberty
Bracewell scored 108 (77%) runs from 140 in boundaries.
Impressive hitting! Gill was 64% (134)
Brohit is indirectly admitting that they had taken everything for granted after Latham had gotten out.
Why do you think 2 all rounders Hardik n sundar were bowling together? They thought NZ would roll over any way.
On days like these it's good to have so many awards
Miyan picking up a 5 wicket haul in Hyderabad which is where it all started for him would've been perfect but it wasn't meant to be. He just keeps getting better and better with time and it's difficult to not love that guy
Fuck I badly wanted a 200 in defeat Edit: Indian fans here make the worst use of the downvote button, and when someone else uses it to disagree they're reminded of some guideline about how downvotes are not to disagree. Nice double standards.
I disagree. How bout that?
Even I use it to do that but one day some dude told me it's not correct and so I'm a bit confused
Good day for cricket fans. Good fight from kiwis. In the end,win or lose,we fans will support India any ways.
Lord robbed of Gamechanger
Game changer should have gone to Siraj.
Can't even stand the sight of Azhar
Why the fuck is azharuddin here? He has done more damage to Indian cricket than anyone else
He is chief of local cricket board.
Gill, Bracewell and Siraj might've been the stars of the day but only the Lord can have the final say.
Remove that filth Azar from the podium
What are you guys talking about? Please elaborate
Destroyed indian cricket, probably the individual who has done the most damage.
What is his relation from this match? Genuine question
President of HCA
Fixer, corrupt and everything that should stay away from sports
Azharuddin is a disgrace and he is the fucking president of HCA, yikes....
Shouldn't have lifted his ban from cricket. Some mistakes are unforgivable, and selling your country for money should be top of that
Couldn't agree more, he is a moron and shouldn't be anywhere close to cricket administration in this country, He is a bad influence
Still don't understand why Rohit didn't bowl out Kuldeep. Or atleast waited until they really went after him to pull him out of the attack. Rohit went out of the field when we were well on top. Pandu bhai brought himself and shardul on.
Pandya was the most economical in PP3. His over forced them to take big risk and gave away wickets
Why did they invite Mr fixer ? He looks high as well
Fck the president of Hyderabad cricket cockroach
>Bracewell: Unfortunately, it wasn't my day. Bruh. It's like the topper kid in your group project saying that he is sorry for only getting us 29/30 in the assignment.
But the _other_ topper kid scored 30/30 and the prize went to him so it genuinely wasn't his day
Honestly I liked bracewells innings more.
I mean playing such an innings and not taking your team to the winning side is always disappointing even if you played a magnificent innings
No grounds should have boundaries less than 75m
r/CricketMatchesWithoutNZ
Hardik needs to go. That guys needs to come back to earth first.
Totally agree.
Trivia: Mike Hesson played the father in Mr. Robot.
Are you saying he doesn't exist in reality?
Yes. Always seen him on Video Confs in the comm box. Could just be a video which spits out generic cricket BS.
He's an AI-generated NFT
😂😂😂😂
Mountain dew better sponsor this world cup

If we had won, different story, but 200 is a seriously impressive innings and he deserves MOTM
Yep. A double hundred is seriously impressive and got India to a very high total
Yeah exactly. Don't know why people always need to undermine one thing to praise the other. Two things can be good.
If only most of the internet thinks this way... its always about putting down someone to make the other look great/good,, i really dont understand why most people constantly do that
Is this host dumb? He totally ignored Hensen.
some fucker here put me on suicide watch after i asked him if he runs faster than Sarfaraz in reply to him saying he's slow...
😂😂
Not even a strong NZ side (no Kane, Trent, or Southee), and they only lose by 12 runs, anyways a great game of cricket.
Probably rested
Were they dropped from the squad or injury?
Tim and Kane rested, boult is off in one of however fucking many T20 leagues are on right now
Not to forget henry and sodhi. They have been good against india
For sure, Henry has always been underrated IMO
If tom latham had been out early, this would have been Nz win.
If any other nz batsmen got to 20 nz win
Hardik's 49th should not be forgotten. Only 4 runs and a wicket.
Hardik Pandya wins you matches
How did they get thrashed so hard? Was it dew?
Dew and boundaries are smaller than BLR. That takes something lol
I thought Hyderabad boundary distances were reasonable
They were. Not sure why they have reduced them to palty 60mts.
Yup the mist helped the batters gain an advantage
Not sure they did get thrashed hard did they? Lost by 12 runs
People need to make their minds on Washi. one day they will complain about him not getting picked and how his potential is wasted and the next day, they want him to dropped, Want players to get a long rope to prove themselves but question a player's selection after a bad performance
people need to make up their mind on every player, that's match threads and r/Cricket
I don’t think it even matters what we all think . Selectors are gonna do what they want
Obviously it won't matter but just wanted to point out the hypocrisy among some fans on this sub
are you sure same people are doing both? we have like 800k+ members.
Why didn't Kuldeep finish his quota? Was there a lot of dew?
Overs were held back....until it was too late to bring him back
Bracewell giving 2013 Faulkner vibes
this was like the thisara perera 140 vs nz in 2019 bracewell got closer to the win though
I remember that, he went fuck it and started cunting everything that day
Hyderabad is Heartbreak City for chasing batsmen. Tendulkar's brilliant 175 in vain, now Bracewell's stunning 140.
oh man still remember that, sachin got out playing scoop off clint mckay and then hauritz bullet throw to runout parveen kumar.
Still how close it was! Insane nerves from NZ
Why does Hardik always try to look so “cold”? Hasn't anyone told him that it doesn't suit his face, all the fake aggression and pride? The dude needs to be humbled fr
For all you know that's just his resting face
Faxx bro. I was happy when he got thrashed today. His winks and cool face would have gone to the trash if we lost today....
Ikr? Like, what’s with the raised-eyebrows, smug-faced walk? Come on man, get off your high horse.
Are the rest of them any humble?
idk kohli seems chill, on field at least.
This.
India won. But Shami at death is awful.
Two amazing nail bitters in a single day. This game and the one between Zimbabwe vs Ireland. ODIs are alive and kicking.
Blair Tickner was the only NZ batsman not to be dismissed, that too batting at a strike rate of 100. Just saying
Hardik Pandya will bowl short ball after short ball and not even attempt an yorker. He needs to work on this as he doesnt seem comfortable with bowling yorkers.
Short ball and slower ball are the only variation he has.

Good that someone sees the silver lining. He was bowling short ball after short ball because of his bloated ego that led to him conceding 66 off 6 before the penultimate over.

He was getting hit for boundaries off short stuff. Any other bowler would change the length but he kept doing the short stuff to not back down.
Don't think his action allows him to bowl fuller consistently His bowling action is kinda made for bowling short of a length
Unfair and unsquare
Foul and circle
Bracewell 140 >>>>> Gill 200. Argue with a wall
Mountain dew
Nah, Gill was better but I guess I'm biased. Either way, what a freak this bracewell guy is. The team would do well to find a way to trap him in the next game otherwise we're screwed.
They were both very different but excellent innings. ODI 200s are rare for a reason
Definitely I am not arguing on this
Bracewell was supported by Santner. Gill was supported by....?
New Zealand
Siraj is developing himself to a match winner level. Imo he could cross bumrah if he continues like this
Hardik should learn a thing or two that bowling only short balls is predictable. Mix in a yorker or two
I hope Lord is not even in backups for WC. And I am saying this as his disciple.
They don't have consistency. Can't bowl the same line and length regularly.
These mfs just hope any how a cutter ball will give them wicket. If that doesn't work and batsman start bashing him, instead of backing their strength they bowl wides
Someone humbled Hardik Pandya today
Any Overseas player now gets injured…Bracewell Should be picked as replacement…coz he’s proved on multiple occasions he can dominate in these conditions & very handy with the ball too
Still wondering Kuldeep with tht economy should have finished his quota. You got to trust your spinners on Indian pitches in the middle overs. If not in subcontinent then where?
Hardik brought himself and shardul on when rohit was outside the field.
Cometh the hour.. cometh the lord u idiot
Flat pitches are the shit in ODIs. More of these please.
I think this was good because there were plenty of runs in it, but still enough for the bowlers. Not every batter was able to dominate, but the ones who played really well were able to carve it up.
[Shardul's bowling be like](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJHUbtR0yI8)
Hardik is a star player no matter what. But he tries too much to look 'cool' on field, it doesn't looks natural. Deep down he looks insecure idk why i feel this
Acts like an idiot a lot of times. Thought he had changed.
Reminds of stoinis and Faulkner knocks almost single handedly won them the match
I felt so bad for Stoinis that day, he was on another planet
ODI at its best
Give motm to both of them
