He’s telling us every downfall comes through our mind and thoughts. You will see quickly studying the scriptures that Pride is the beginning of sin, humility the beginning righteousness. I believe they are also the greatest expressions of unrighteousness or righteousness, respectively. He’s telling us to guard our hearts from things that would dismay them, distress them and allow us to lower ourselves from righteousness, what is good and holy to unrighteousness. Compare to the teachings of Jesus to not lose our salt or savor. How we guard our hearts is humbly seek God’s knowledge in the scriptures to maturity in our walk with Christ, and in faith, persistently rely on Him through prayer. God responds to persistence. Trust Him all the more in trials because He is strong in our weakness and He is faithful unlike anyone we’ve known. Even when God sent Paul a thorn in the flesh it was for his benefit, to contain his pride, and even when Peter or Job were allowed to be sifted and everything taken from Job, it was all so they and we could know our God and His Grace more fully. Sometimes it’s a choice to focus on the things of God and a choice to be thankful even when feel like we do not have enough or do not know the outcome of our situation. Look at the ancient Israelites after the Exodus. They were so dismayed by a lack of comforts that even after all they witnessed and all that was given to them they complained and were saying they were better off in slavery. Think about that with slavery to sin and the freedom we gained in Christ. Even surrounded by darkness we have assurances and True Hope in the promises of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Remember them.

A woman wanted to date me after being friends for two years and the reality is that people can hide their true thoughts, identity and intentions so that is why you should guard your hearts. There isn't a good reason to be friends of develop feelings if people want to just use you and dump you because you will be hurting in the end. People are players and they just want to mess with your emotions. I'm married and wear a wedding ring. A girl half my age gets a job and sits next to me at another desk and starts being too friendly because she just wants someone to help her. I know she can't be interested in someone twice her age but I want to remain professional at work and she keeps pouring it on as if she is interested in me and after people help her, she is like "I have a guy friend". Lol. There is nothing new under the sun.

1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (ESV): 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV): 31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4:6 NIV Ephesians 5:10–11 (ESV): 10 and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.

Watch your words. Don’t say everything you are thinking to anyone who will listen. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks…
