I was thinking this but didnt want to be that guy. I mean if its not needing to be beautiful, fur it out like the others said and slap a coat of paint on it like the previous 632 coats. But if the goal is to improve I would definitely look at redoing it maybe clean up the rough edges and then fill and caulk and finally slap a coat of paint

Agreed. Like just rip the whole thing out and start new at this point. Otherwise its going to look ridiculous with new trim and that nasty ass 100 year old door frame

I would trim it out with 1/2 flat pine to come with the sheetrock, then my pine trim on top of flat not.
