nice man! 3-1 count to double play, if he just got walked like he should have we won the game of the triple!

[deleted]

Bote is booty

nikefreak23

0-64, is that bad??? LOL Edit: now 0-65

Hope4years

McKinstry is having a good night

nikefreak23

Wow imagine if we would have not hit into the GD DP

nikefreak23

Lol I can't believe this is a Sunday showcase game. How fucking dull.

lupin43

Oof my condolences to the giants, two Espn weeks in a row

lupin43

A game is going to end on an automatic ball or strike call. Possibly worse is that one should’ve ended but some kind of gray area gets applied unequally and then that has to be debated/litigated/argued. Because as they brought up earlier, who actually has the clock? The home plate umpire? Well we know how consistent they are, and they definitely wouldn’t make a different call because they feel personally slighted by something.

Total_Shape

11 hits to 7 and losing 2-4. almost half the hits were home runs. . kinda sad w/e thoug

nikefreak23

Yep that tracks. We never get the big hits when it matters lol

Hope4years

Franmil is not our sprinter. But I love him

lupin43

Big man hit ball high

iamthatguythere

nikefreak23

Are you fucking kidding me??????? His hand is in!!!

rotallytad

The fuk is taking so long.

nikefreak23

I mean he's safe....not particularly close either

lupin43

Hmm I think safe?

NearlySilentObserver

That looked safe, imo

rotallytad

Safe

Zark_Muckerberger

Rent!

lupin43

No espn actually we didn’t have a lead in this game, I know it’s hard for you to keep up with all the plates you’re juggling

MostMirror

I thought that Joe Maddon interview was fascinating. It seems that, in his opinion, he feels that front offices are breathing down managers' necks by telling them how to utilize the bullpen right before game time. I could see that being annoying.

rotallytad

I turned off the Sunday nite football game to watch baseball on ESPN. Interview instead of baseball…Whelp guess I’m moving on to house of dragons.

Dack-Ramb0

If Joe’s done with baseball, get this man on TV. Wouldn’t shock me if he just enjoys his array of hobbies and retirement too though. Try not to suck Joe!

SwAeromotion

People (on their own) "allowing" Joe Maddon on the broadcast, but don't understand why Bobby Valentine are on the broadcast on 9/11 are absolute idiots. Especially when they pretend they can't see what was going in the game in the comments here in this thread about the 9/11 broadcast with Valentine, but say nothing about it here when Joe Maddon is live.

Saltmeister51

Maddon has a clear, recent link with the Cubs, not that it's logical to have him join but it at least makes some sense. In addition to that Maddon is on a much smaller part of the screen compared to Valentine.

SwAeromotion

I guess I'll take the downvotes here. Nothing at all against Joe Maddon being on the broadcast at all. It's just the disrespect towards 9/11 that I am frustrated about. Maybe it is because I am older and was a young adult at the time in 2001. This Sunday night game should have been the Yankeea and Rays since it was in NY, IMO.

Saltmeister51

I think you are misinterpreting why people are opposed to the Valentine stuff. It's very clear to everyone that 9/11 is an important event that deserves remembering. Except, it's been 21 years and this is simply a baseball game. A moment of silence/remembrance at the start of the game would suffice. That way you honour the fallen and all those that took action that day but don't take away from the game for a memorial. The stuff like Valentine and other interviews, tributes, etcetera should be at actual memorial events.

SwAeromotion

Am not misinterpreting. There should be acknowledgment on a live broadcast in some fashion. I say this now with even more conviction because it seems those younger are dismissing the significance of 9/11/2001 because of the downvotes and comments against me. Those that dishonestly said that they couldn't follow the game when Bobby Valentine was on are crying without value. It was always on the broadcast. If it wasn't ideal for you then you are simply being dishonest as it was always there.

Saltmeister51

But that's the thing. Nobody is disputing it should be acknowledged, it's a very significant date in modern American history. But the in game interview is not the way to do it. There are many ways to honour the memory, like a different intro to the broadcast or a video/screen going to commercial, a combination of both would be great. That is not a dismissal or degredation of the significance, it is simply a way to honour the date and not take away from the actual point of the broadcast, the baseball.

SwAeromotion

My uncle was above the 90th floor within the WTC in 1993 when the basement was bombed. He got out and retired before the 2001 attacks. He knew to go immediately to the stairs. I am sorry that people are inconvenienced by the fact that people died in the attacks 21 years ago over a look in live on a baseball game.

NearlySilentObserver

Well, damn

MostMirror

I love Joe Maddon's openness

Zark_Muckerberger

Angels legend Joe Maddon

[deleted]

Cubs fans who hate Maddon are fucking losers

lupin43

Remember this game the next time you think marquee is as bad as espn

J11ghtman

I’d complain on Twitter except @espn doesn’t even acknowledge there’s a game on tonight, they’re too busy promoting pre-season nba news.

lupin43

You could use their hashtag to ask about mac and cheese

akedz3

Wait why is Joe Maddon joining the broadcast?

nivu889

Because ESPN tries as hard as they can to broadcast anything but the fucking baseball game.

Interrobangersnmash

I'll allow it because I love Joe Maddon

HHHU03

let’s go wesneski

lupin43

Oh baby good throw there morel

Hope4years

Nice play Morel

lupin43

Espn granting us Rizzo back apparently

prostytoot

Why did Nico get pulled? I missed it

ScritchScratchBoop

Just said forearm tightness

prostytoot

Thanks!

hawksfan81

I'm at the game, did they say anything on the broadcast about why Hoerner got pulled?

J11ghtman

We’re not allowed to watch baseball, we’re watching a compelling 9/11 interview with Bobby fuckin’ Valentine instead

Hope4years

Pat Hughes says no word yet

lupin43

Finally got around to saying right tricep tightness

lupin43

They probably haven’t noticed, too busy staring up an old dude’s nose etc

Interrobangersnmash

Goddamn I hate ESPN. Why do they insist on talking about anything other than what's happening in the game

SwAeromotion

Are you being serious or taking the piss?

Interrobangersnmash

Dead serious. Dudes are stealing bases, but no mention of it cuz they're interviewing Valentine, about something completely unrelated

SwAeromotion

No one stole any bases in that half inning. Way to complain and yet not know what actually happened.

Interrobangersnmash

Well I didn't know what the fuck was happening because the game was in a teeny tiny window and the announcers weren't updating us on the action at all. That's just bad broadcasting, but it's ESPN's MO

J11ghtman

It would have been easier without the world’s worst 9/11 interview blocking the screen

SwAeromotion

It was never off screen. Pay attention, don't complain. 9/11 was a significant event and deserves being remembered on this date.

Interrobangersnmash

Right? Just shows I didn't know what was happening because the game was in a small screen and the announcers weren't giving updates on it at all. I'm also stoned tho

SwAeromotion

Paying attention to the action is apparently too much for you. I am sorry that is so hard to follow what is happening on screen.

J11ghtman

Serious. It’s been 21 years, cutting the cubs tying the game up to talk to Bobby Valentine for ten minutes is idiotic. Somehow manages to disrespect both baseball and 9/11. Terrible broadcast. You either broadcast a baseball game or you cut the commercials to talk about 9/11. The fact that they care enough to cut the game but not the Chevy ads says all you need to know about what they respect.

SwAeromotion

You clearly do not understand the impact that 9/11 had. There is no disrespect at all. The only disrespect would be if the ESPN broadcast ignored it.

J11ghtman

You are watching a baseball game in Chicago. I clearly remember 9/11 vividly. I do not need to cut off the broadcast and the cubs scoring to watch Bobby Valentine of all people reminisce about terrorist attacks and the shift. You simply do not need to interrupt the game for a terrible split screen interview 21 years later, complete with awkwardly cutting off the 9/11 stuff to show us half a shot with half the sound of a cubs base hit or run score. Go to the museum and slap on a black armband. This is not the place for that kind of game interruption. They did not ignore 9/11. They added a very silly interview into the 5th inning for no reason.

Saltmeister51

I'm European so obviously less invested but is a moment of silence/remembrance at the start of the game not enough at this point?

J11ghtman

Exactly. It’s not even that you can’t interview people—but cutting into the game (rather than commercials!) is a bad call.

nivu889

I sure did wanna have a half an hour interview with Bobby Valentine's nostrils on half the screen. Really made the game for me.

J11ghtman

MLB has given up on me and anyone younger. It exists now to sell viagra to people too sleepy to change the channel or get up and go to bed. “Let’s remember 9/11 with Bobby Valentine during the Cubs comeback inning” is exactly what I’d expect.

HHHU03

streets are saying it’s rafael ortega night out here in wrigley

lupin43

Fuck the shift, so long

ScritchScratchBoop

I kinda like that idea of having a limited number of shifts per game

MostMirror

Bobby Valentine looks pretty good for 72

lupin43

Total_Shape for new hitting coach

-DaveThomas-

obligatory Zach "T-1000" McKinstry

SwAeromotion

Most of us have been down on McKinstry and Ortega this season, but props to them here in this moment to get us a run.

lupin43

Mckinstry Ortega 1-2 punch good shit Rossy!!!

Total_Shape

lets hit the ball this inning and get a run please!

Hope4years

Ask and you did receive

El_Kestino

Freaking love Franimal. Can we re-sign him?

SwAeromotion

He is still arbitration eligible for two more years.

lupin43

Pretty sure he’s under control for the next two years

El_Kestino

Shows how much I know haha. That’s good to know

lupin43

No, with his hands 😳

FlukeCoins

That’s too funny lol

Hope4years

Who wouldn’t want Franmil as a teammate?!

ThePlebGeneral99

I need to hear some of the conversations that Franmil and Suzuki have lmao

qhsk

I love franmil

lupin43

Ian Happ is ~~an all star~~ a Gold Glover

MostMirror

Franmil Reyes is the man

Saltmeister51

I can see how Franimal is a popular clubhouse guy lmao

akedz3

Someone get Franmil’s remix of “I Will Always Love You,” on spotify

bodie221

Franmil is hilarious

KnickedUp

Franmil for prez

SwAeromotion

Love Franimal's positive energy.

jimmykane366

This entire broadcast was worth it just to hear Franmil Reyes sing Whitney Houston

crunchy_ice_cream

Just cause of that, #ExtendFranmilReyes

Hope4years

Whenever I see JD Davis I can’t help but think about Harry saying Joooodeee Davis

SwAeromotion

Dang, that was a nice play by Rogers. I thought we might squeak a run in on that infield chopper.

lupin43

Good camera work espn

lupin43

Sure it’s a couple of weak groundball outs, but that’s definitely a victory for the giants

golden_sombreros

Bring back Sammy you cowards

qhsk

Why is Ortega batting 2nd today? Did he blow Ross before the game?

iamthatguythere

I love not being able to sneakily watch the game because of some dumb blackout restrictions for a worse broadcast product

mt77932

Bears beat the 49ers today so we have to beat the Giants to complete the sweep today.

MostMirror

They are spending too much time talking about Brebbia's beard lol

kneejerkcubsfan

Can't wait for the cubs to get clowned on national TV

iamthatguythere

Clowns are entertainers, entertainment is a booming industry, therefore the cubs clowning is a huge win.

golden_sombreros

I bet the only reason ESPN picked up this game is cause of the Bears-Niners tie in Which, like, I'm ok with that

-DaveThomas-

These fuckin graphics lol

steveofthejungle

[Just got back from flying the W on the highest peak in Utah! You can tell by my face that I was not having a good time haha](https://imgur.com/a/xuRRgNA)

Interrobangersnmash

Go Bears! Er, I mean Cubs. Go Cubs! Baby Bears

-_butters_-

Well, that is technically a lineup. Go Cubs! 🍻

AtariHeavy26

How are the roads in Chicago?

[deleted]

Are they going to play this game?

mod1fier

Wunderground shows the rain ending by 6. As long as the outfield is draining properly we could be good.

mod1fier

In fact, I'm down by Southport and Addison now and it's slowed to a steady drizzle in the last 5 minutes. Let's play some baseball.

Cubbiesblue

Surprised they would given how soldier field looked earlier but it appears they might?

[deleted]

Huh that’ll be a minor miracle

Cubbiesblue

Field probably drains better than soldier

archy319

Not a difficult achievement
