[Game Thread] Oklahoma @ Tulane (12:00PM ET)
By - BlueSCar
Wow! This was a close one.
SEC SEC SEC
I reaaally hope that like, 40% of the OU team was out binge drinking last night and were severely hung over today. If this was their best otherwise, it's going to be a long season.
That happens a lot when teams come to play in NOLA....
I don’t recall 2004 very well thank you 🍻
How the hell were they ranked above Clemson, OSU, and UGA? All three would have kicked the living shit out of OU.
Because suck it, that's why.
(But seriously. I'm scared.)
Well at least we didn’t lose (on the scoreboard).
Just be happy y’all never lost to Troy
Best thing that happened to LSU
Tulane should be rank top 25
That guy at QB… what an absolute stud. He could start on most SEC rosters in my opinion. Man actually I wish he was LSUs QB right now
Bud, we got Zeb Noland and an FCS all American as our QBs right now. I’ll NIL the dude myself if he became a gamecock
Zeb looked like Jake Bentley and JB threw at least 3 Tebow jump passes
Carolina football is so back
Hell he almost beat an SEC team today!
Max Johnson pretty good! But yes, he looked great!
We don't deserve the number 2 ranking now. I hope Tulane has a great season.
You won’t have it next week.
It's so typical of OU to start slow, and lose/almost lose games we should dominate at the beginning of the season
I know. Got a friend there so I actually cheer for y’all during the games even though I’m a born Longhorn.
I feel you, I always root for Texas until we play each other
We want a top-10 RRR
Love your name btw
Lol thanks! Yeah top 10 match up for RRR is peak football
“They spose to be SEC”
Any other Tulane fans going to Oxford for the ole miss game? This is exciting
Though I am not really a Tulane fan, I may actually go to that game. I really like watching this Tulane team and Oxford is one of my favorite towns to visit. Great combination.
I’ll be there! I like both teams equally. Gonna be a good
Ref’s unabashedly bailed Spencer Rattler out early in the fourth quarter from throwing what would have been his third interception by calling the worst “defensive pass interference” call EVER. The OU receiver pushed his defender down as the Tulane safety came in and picked off the horrible pass. I was in disbelief.
Hopefully OU drops to 5th or 6th after this weekend, how a team with no defense and an overrated offense can be ranked above A&M, Clemson, or OSU blows me away.
Hey we are supposed to be friends now.
8th or 9th.
Saints rams is the worst ever but this one is right up there with it
I was rooting for Tulane man, Pratt looked more like the Heisman favorite in this game.
Technically his 4th pick-worthy pass, if you'll remember the earlier one that was in the defender's hands.
Rattler reminds me a TON of college Mahomes all the arm talent in the world but no discipline. Mahomes also had trash footwork in college, NFL Mahomes is a God, I’m just talking about college Mahomes. rattler is similar. If rattler set his feet he would be elite but he just keeps throwing the ball off 1 foot or his back foot and it just doesn’t work in the college game. Hopefully he figures it out or we are on our way to another 4th place disappointment
He's still got time
You’re right, the pass that Rattler overthrew his receiver on for no reason, Ratter is no Murray or Mayfield.
I was rooting for Tulane so hard. It was so close. I’m mad proud of them for this performance. I just wish they could’ve done a little bit more. Excited to see how they play the rest of this year.
They were most definitely the better team today aside from the second quarter.
Agreed. That second quarter was a blowout.
Helluva Hullaballoo of a game! ROLL WAVE! Now to watch my other oceanographic phenomenon
OU deserves all the jokes. After the SEC bullshit and conspiring for OVER A YEAR to destroy CFB as we know and love it, they come out and play like this.
Drop them to like 10. They ain’t winning a title this year. This happens with Riley every year, and eventually they’ll lose a game they shouldn’t lose.
Just like they do with Riley. Every year.
tbf that's just an us thing not a riley thing lol. hell only losing one gimme game a year has been an improvement
Sounds like a certain turtle coach I know and hate
And Tulane gave up those two early fumbles, and OU could never put them away. What a sham of a team this year.
Show me on the doll where Riley hurt you
As a Tulane fan, great day for me. Early today I told people I would be proud of a 25 point loss
Tulane played a hell of a game on both sides of the ball. Your QB has star potential. He kept getting shellacked and kept his poise. He was impressive
I wrote on my sports law final last year that the Michael Pratt effect is going to take New Orleans by storm. Might’ve been a bit on the nose there 😅
Tulane gonna have a great season. I’m excited to watch them.
Sheesh Oklahoma, that was bad
**** hypnotizing **** You saw nothing. We’re definitely worthy of number 2. **** end hypnosis ****
Mind tricks don't work on me. Only money.
Sorry I mean, Oklahoma is the number 2 team in the nation
Huzzah it worked!
Normally when you see huge upsets or near upsets the underdog gets all the breaks and forces more turnovers. Tulane lost the turnover battle, had bad breaks (looking at you back judge), and the other kicker made 3 50+ yard field goals. If you didn't know who was supposed to be the better team hard to tell with just the eye test.
I have not live in NO for 25 years but grew up a Tulane fan. Hope this translates rest of the season.
Can you imagine if this game had been AT Tulane. Win for sure with the wild crowd
I was there when went undefeated that one time. It would be NUTS.
OU is not actually the second best team in the nation.
nope no idea why they were given it
They were the second best team in this game
Ouch. Stop telling the truth.
Thanks Oklahoma for not being able to play defense causing me to miss the first part of the Alabama game in there first score. Your invitation to the SEC is withdrawn
Honestly with the conclusions everyone seems to draw after a game like this it makes me question if people actually pay attention to college football every year. Teams slip up or almost get upset all the time that go on to win national championships. OU could very well end up a top 2 team this season just as they’re ranked
Bama already up 7-0 lmfao
Disappointing, its not 50-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Let’s offer Saban 25 mill a year plus the panhandle
I'll say it again, Heisman candidate, yo
So #4 after this? At best?
Shouldn’t be top 5.
I don’t even disagree with that. That was a pitiful performance on our part
Oklahoma expects to survive playing like this? in the SEC...hahahahaha
As an OU fan, I for one hated this move to the SEC. While we traditionally play decent against SEC teams (9-5 last 12 years), I feel our team would constantly be throttled by Alabama and whoever the #2/3 teams are that year. Good move on paper, horrible in practice.
We beat the #2 SEC team by 35 just last year
I should know, I was there. Florida was an overrated team who’s players had their eyes on the NFL. Bowl games are more difficult to predict because of the long break between games and the way different teams play different players with the draft coming up
Agreed with your observation. Gonna be a tough few years.
So the OU defense still needs work
That was not the defense fault. Only scored 3 points in the second half. Our defense is designed to get pressure while we score putting more pressure on the opposing teams offense to keep up. Forcing them to make mistakes
I’m other news, water = wet
It’s a rebuild decade
Big bummer for tulane, but hey losing by 1 score to a top 3 team is nothing to be ashamed about
You mean former top three team
I mean yeah probably but right now they’re ranked #2
And still a really good game by Tulane
OU won't end the season as a top 3
Not even in the Big 12 playing like this
Doesn’t look likely right now but currently Tulane has a very good quality loss
Can we have Tulane in the SEC instead of OU? Thanks and Gig 'em.
I’d be down to play Tulane more. We still have a losing record against them…
Yes I want to see that LSU Tulane rivalry
Lol as if you’re better than us.
Aww that's cute.
when OU gets in the SEC ... they'll be a middle of the pack team. About .500 every year. They'll see how hard it is. Will probably be like a Mississippi State or Ole Miss
Agreed. Can’t wait to see them lose to Arkansas after Arkansas loses to Rice. Join us.
I’d say Ole Miss is accurate
It took one controversial no call to keep you guys from the worst loss of the year bar none
This hurts, but you are right
That wrong PI call really killed Tulane's chance of winning, the ref that called that should publicly apologize and sit out a few games. Need to add Tulane flair, I'm a fan of that performance.
Lincoln’s the highest level coach with yet so much to improve
Kirby would like a word
Kirby beat Lincoln bc Lincoln chokes with a lead.
It’s crazy how bad he is in the second half
It’s like he preps for the first 2 qtrs and wings it the second
He only really closed out Tech and Florida last year in terms of not blowing a lead.
Kansas doesn’t count bc it’s a middle school team.
No way in Hell they are a #2 team...
This was a classic OU season opener. We don't hit our stride until November.
Definitely didn’t look like it today. Feel like we got overrated by beating the shit out of Florida’s backups to end the season
No way OU deserves to be ranked 2 after today. This is coming from a huge OU fan. Tulane is a gimme game. Also Rattler is awful
30-39, 304yds 1 TD 2 int. Is he Baker/Kyler? No. Terrible? No.
Pretty terrible against a crap Tulane team. I’m an OU fan and this guy is by far the worst of the most recent QBs
Agreed about Rattler. Don’t see the hype for him. Didn’t see it last year either.
Both him and Sam Howell seem to have been extremely over hyped.
I’m sure Sam Howell is a good dude, but I fucking hate all of the hype him and UNC have gotten just because of Mack Brown. Don’t hate him, just hate the hype around him due to an old coach.
Alabama game comes on and they’re already up 7-0 lmao it’s really college football season
Too be fair Oklahoma beat a pretty damn good
Tulane team. Yes they are ranked too high but okie should still have a solid season. Tulane gonna surprise a lot of people. I think they beat ole miss
Oklahoma's defense is once again questionable
Like the sun rising in the east
Undeserved victory formation
We don’t know you… I don’t know him
Flair is cringe
Bro not now
I just talked a whole lotta shit about OU now I'm nervous for the karma in 30 mins haha
Yeah we need to chill before we lose by a TD to Louisiana at home. Or I suppose maybe you should get your shit talking in now before we start the season 0-2. I’m not thinking negatively or anything, though.
I have zero expectations. Nothing can hurt me after Maryland.
This is typical ou September football. Has been for awhile. Not sure why anyone is shocked
Exactly they start out slow, they then dominate the conference, then get obliterated in the post season. Chill guys, it’s just OU football.
I guess beating Florida 55-20 in the Cotton Bowl last year doesn’t count.
I love non flair shit talk.
When’s the last time OU didn’t get upset or almost get upset by an underdog because of an awful defensive performance early in the season? They’ve always turned out pretty decent after it too.
Happens most years. Kind of annoying. They play a great second quarter than try and coast.
Keep it up for a few more weeks please.
Honestly wouldn’t shock me.
If it could be a not blowout, I'd be happy
Our first 4 games are either super close or giant blowouts
The refs really saved Oklahoma's ass in this game
Fuck these refs. Bullshit spot *and* they missed a face mask.
Are you referring to the spot on the last play of the game where the Qb scrambled? Just out of curiosity
Our performance was worse than Lincoln Riley’s brisket
Makes me feel good about the rest of the year
Pratt is as tough as can be. Serious respect there.
He’s only a Sophomore (?) and played well last year, he’s probably the best QB we’ve had in at least 10 years
I’d take him over both Patrick Ramsey and JP Losman, both of whom were first round picks
Technically a freshman for eligibility purposes bc of the covid season lol
His receivers hurt him today bc some of his throws were really really good. I hope he stays healthy and gets a real look by nfl teams. His effort and toughness deserve it.
Great Job Tulane for playing a great game and trying to make a amazing comeback against Oklahoma. Dont sneeze on tulane, they can play really good football.
Tulane’s good. They’ve been building a good program for the past seasons.
OU won but in reality they lost.
Damn, GG Tulane. Coming to a road game that was supposed to be at home, and going toe to toe with the perceived Number 2 team in the nation? Well done. The odds couldn't have been more stacked against you.
Respect to Tulane. Great team great game.
Good game Tulane. Mad respect, excited to see what your guys do in the AAC
This is the number 2 team in the nation? Lol
GG Tulane bros. Y'all played your hearts out, arguably should've won. With all you guys been through, you guys put on a show.
Welp certainly a frustrating and sloppy game, but hooray not losing!
I was definitely thinking to myself earlier in the game that normally this would be an upset without Brkic hitting a bunch of insane field goals; I'm sad that prediction was correct, but happy we have him!
Willie Fritz can really coach especially after the Hurricane.
Pratt is a fucking beast. Best player on field today, even with mistakes
Mad fucking props Tulane. You guys played a hell of a game. Unfortunately came up short but y’all should be proud. Go out and make a NY6 bowl.
if you don't like that you don't like Sooners football. I have alot to think about
Where did the Rattler hype even come from? I've never seen the dude look elite.
OU looks awful
Rattler needs more work
Second half Rattler offense continues
Hell of an effort from Tulane
Would really like it for someone to finally criticize the OU offense instead of the defense. 3 points in the 2nd half and people going after the defense.
The defense to me held up after a bad start.
Its just what we are used to doing for the past 10 years, bur Rattler nearly fucked us in that game single handedly.
A number of games last year, as well
Wasn't that a theme last season too? Not sure if it continues on all season but I definitely remember it being an issue in several games
Right up until he got benched during the Texas game and fixed himself for the rest of the season.
"for the rest of the season" is a stretch
I mean, you didn't really need to give the details
Put down money they stay in the top 5 after this. Money. Impressive win by the officials and Oklahoma today, they better give them a standing ovation afterwards.
Well that was an absolute disaster. Another vintage Riley team: capable but sloppy offense and an absolutely godawful defense that can’t cover receivers or tackle. It’s the same story every year. Hopefully the disneyheads will give up on the ridiculous Rattler hype.
He did look confused out there today for sure.
I expected more out of the entire team. The identity has not seemed to change. This game could have been played anytime the last 4 years.
Tulane played great. OU did not look like the #2 team in the nation.
that's exactly what I thought ... and for the past 5 years ESPN lifts them up as one of the top teams in the country. Definitely not in the top 10.
Respect Tulane, you deserved to win this game. I hope this humbled some Sooners who thought they were hot shit.
What an unbelievable performance. I have a feeling that’s not the last time we’ll hear the name Michael Pratt. That dude is going to be playing on Sundays.
No one else I’d want leading this team than him and Coach Fritz. But by God I need him to learn how to time his slide. Terrifying every time he takes off
Gg Tulane. Y'all deserved this game so much more than OU did. I hope y'all win out this year and go to a NY6 game
SEC SEC SEC!!!
Good thing they didn't move this game to somewhere in Texas. Lincoln Riley could've been sued for this game.
