Yes. If the playback device supports AptX, phone will switch automatically. My headphones don't support AptX, so when I check my phone says it's using SBC but when my Motion+ is connected, it always says AptX. Cheers.

It will change automatically if the device you connect it to supports the codec. For example, when I first connected my Sony wh-1000xm3 to my phone they switched to the 'LDAC' codec straight away
